Today, you will ride to Truleigh Hill, identifiable by its many distinctive masts. Along the way, you’ll cover gentle rolling countryside, woodland, and open farmland. Sunday: The final 56 km

After breakfast, you’ll be on the road by 08:30, heading over chalk hills and passing the legendary beauty spot, Devil’s Dyke. You’re almost half-way as you descend towards the River Ouse; look out for visiting seals.

As the landscape opens, you’ll have stunning views back along the scarp slopes of the Downs. Passing Firle Beacon, there are plenty of opportunities to drop down into the villages for lunch.

The last leg of the route remains high until a steep descent through ancient hazel woodland. Eventually reaching Eastbourne Station, this amazing trip will come to an end around 16:30.

The South Downs Way is a notoriously tough long-distance MTB challenge in England. Renowned as a physical rather than technical challenge, the 96-mile route takes long climbs and sweeping descents to a backdrop of expansive coastal views as you ride from Winchester to Eastbourne.

Winchester is a compact city steeped in history. The former seat of King Alfred the Great, Winchester today combines the best of modern city life, award-winning restaurants and pubs, with medieval architecture and a magnificent Cathedral. There’s plenty to explore so it’s worth spending some time here before the ride.

The coastal town of Eastbourne is famous for its stunning beaches and chalk cliffs. Head away from the beaches and there’s plenty of culture on offer with the Towner Art Gallery and a military museum.
