Nordfjord sits between the largest mainland glacier in Europe and Norway’s wildest coast at the western cape. The landscape is one of spectacular mountains and valleys, rolling farmland and a dramatic coastline. Nordfjord is packed with outdoor experiences; hiking, biking, skiing, glacier walking, and of course, some unmissable hiking trails.

The Bødal Glacier lies at the end of the Bødalen Valley and is one of the arms of the great Jostedalsbreen Glacier within the Jostedalsbreen National Park. The landscape here ranges from lush valleys to alpine mountains, with cultural landscapes that are still used for agriculture and as grazing land.

You’ll meet your host at 10:00 in Nordfjordeid and drive to Sandane for your hike from Solheim to Haugsvarden. During the hike, you’ll ascend and descend over 500m against a backdrop of panoramic fjord views.

The path is firm underfoot as you pass through a pine and birch wood before crossing into mountain terrain on your way up to the summit (862m).

When the hike is complete, you’ll drive to a cabin near Lodalen Lake where you’ll stay for the next few nights. Dinner will be served and you can get to know your hiking buddies.

Day 2: Hike to Bødalglacier

This morning, you’ll take a short drive along the great glacier lake before stopping for a 1-hour hike. This area was once populated with villages until destroyed by a tsunami.

Next, you’ll drive to Bødalsætra valley for a light hike to Bødalglacier. The trail is easy to follow, taking you across a river and through young trees before the glacier comes into view. If conditions permit, you’ll hike higher to another glacier in the valley.

Tonight, you will return to the cabin at Lodalen Lake.

3-5 hours hiking

Day 3: Hike from the village of Flo

Today you will drive to a nearby valley for another day of hiking.

Depending on the weather, you will start hiking from the small village of Flo and explore the area with the dramatic fjords as your backdrop. Weather permitting, you’ll be able to hike to the lake found half way up Skåla Mountain (1848m).

Tonight, you will return to the cabin at Lodalen Lake.

6 hours hiking

Day 4: Try some new activities

On your rest day, you’ll have a choice of alternative activities to try your hand at; go kayaking on the fjord, tackle the via ferrata in Loen (1000m), take the Skylift to Mt. Hoven or relax for the day in a nearby spa.

After lunch, you’ll take the 1-1½ hour drive to your second cabin accommodation of the trip. This cabin is further west in Nordfjord, towards the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 5: Hike to Tungeskaret

This morning, you’ll take a 5-hour round hike from the cabin to Tungeskaret.

This hike will give you an insight into the local cultural history and along the way you can enjoy diverse views of the fjord and the Atlantic Ocean.

At the end of the hike, you’ll return to the beach-side cabin perfect for a late-afternoon dip on the fjord.

5 hours hiking

Day 6: Drive to Bremanger and hike to Veten.

This morning, you’ll drive to the coastal island of Bremanger where you’ll start your hike to the sea cliff, Veten. You’ll set off from a white sandy beach and enjoy views of the hundreds of islands that make the coastal archipelago.

You’ll return to the cabin at the end of the hike and as tonight is your last night, you’ll be served an extra special farewell dinner.
