  • All meals during the trip

Need To Know

The following are not included in the trip price:

  • Flights
  • Kayaking option on the rest day
  • Transport to the starting location
  • Snacks and drink
  • Personal expenses
  • Travel insurance

The idea behind this hiking week is to show you the big diversity of the Fjords and Atlantic Coast.

We use the cabin as a base and drive every day to a different start point where we do day hikes. Hikes depend on weather and group(form) and interest. We are flexible.

We always include other aspects as culture, food, meeting locals etc. Visit a cider farm or sheep farm, nice little town centre with a cafe and bakery etc. This way you get a great impression of Fjord life and nature. We might hike straight from the cabin or drive to an area where we will take day hikes

Likely yes but it cannot be guaranteed.

This trip will run with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10.

Sure can! A lot of people do, and it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Good level of fitness and experience in hiking in all kinds of terrain is necessary for this trip. Hiking in the fjords is more strenuous because of the steep and often wet, slippery trails. Expect to hike for four to seven hours per day, and ascend (and descend) between 300 and 800 meters per day.

The weather is changeable; everything from 8°C with heavy rain and wind to 22°C with sun and blue sky.

Breakfast: continental with bread and cereals. Lunch: packed lunch (during breakfast you will have the opportunity to prepare your own lunch to go). Dinner: 2-course dinner with starter and main course, or main course with dessert. Expect fresh vegetables, fish, meat; e.g. rice with chicken, vegetables and fruit yoghurt. There’s coffee, tea, juice and fruits available too.

If you have any special requests, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Alcohol is not served in the cabinas but you can take it with you. Keep in mind that alcohol is very expensive in Norway. The best thing to do is to buy it taxfree (very reasonable prices) upon arrival at the airport in Ålesund (this is before you go through customs, so you have to follow the regulations).

No kit is provided on this trip.

Clothing: - wool, partly wool or synthetic long-sleeved shirt - wool socks/stockings - wind jacket/anorak or all-weather jacket - sweater/jacket, wool or fleece - mountain trousers (comfortable, preferably fast drying material) - shirt or light sweater of wool or fleece - hiking boots (waterproof) - rucksack (20-30ltr)

In pack or pockets: - rain jacket (if your jacket isn’t all-weather) - rain trousers (if your trousers aren’t all-weather) - cap/hat (that covers your ears) - neckband/buff - extra set with dry clothes (shirt, socks) - toilet paper - suncream - sunglasses - insect repellent - lunch packet - thermos or water bottle - energy snacks

Other recommendations are: - Camera - Mobile phone - Personal medicine if required (please inform your guide in case of emergency)

Please also pack your own towel as the cabins do not provide them. Bed linen is however provided so no need to pack a sleeping bag or pillow etc.

You will only be carrying a daypack, the rest of your luggage will stay at the cabin and be transported when necessary.

From Oslo or Bergen, you can fly into Sandane Airport (SDN) close to Nordfjordeid. If you prefer to rent a car, your host recommends you to fly into Bergen Airport (BGN) as this is the closest airport (5½-hour drive). From Bergen, you can also go by boat to Måløy and from there to Nordfjordeid by bus (approx. 990 NOK)

You should arrive in Norway the day before to be on time in Nordfjordeid. The trip starts at 10:00.

Your host can help you book the transfers. However, if you prefer to rent a car it is best if you book it directly.

Location

View map

Nordfjord sits between the largest mainland glacier in Europe and Norway’s wildest coast at the western cape. The landscape is one of spectacular mountains and valleys, rolling farmland and a dramatic coastline. Nordfjord is packed with outdoor experiences; hiking, biking, skiing, glacier walking, and of course, some unmissable hiking trails.

The Bødal Glacier lies at the end of the Bødalen Valley and is one of the arms of the great Jostedalsbreen Glacier within the Jostedalsbreen National Park. The landscape here ranges from lush valleys to alpine mountains, with cultural landscapes that are still used for agriculture and as grazing land.

What to Expect

This itinerary and the duration of the activities are subject to change due to group abilities and preferences, and weather conditions and forecasts. This trip is in the wilderness and as such a degree of flexibility is required. Your guide will always take the final decision based on the safety and well-being of the group.

Day 1: Hike from Solheim to Haugsvarden

You’ll meet your host at 10:00 in Nordfjordeid and drive to Sandane for your hike from Solheim to Haugsvarden. During the hike, you’ll ascend and descend over 500m against a backdrop of panoramic fjord views.

The path is firm underfoot as you pass through a pine and birch wood before crossing into mountain terrain on your way up to the summit (862m).

When the hike is complete, you’ll drive to a cabin near Lodalen Lake where you’ll stay for the next few nights. Dinner will be served and you can get to know your hiking buddies.

4 hours hiking

Day 2: Hike to Bødalglacier

This morning, you’ll take a short drive along the great glacier lake before stopping for a 1-hour hike. This area was once populated with villages until destroyed by a tsunami.

Next, you’ll drive to Bødalsætra valley for a light hike to Bødalglacier. The trail is easy to follow, taking you across a river and through young trees before the glacier comes into view. If conditions permit, you’ll hike higher to another glacier in the valley.

Tonight, you will return to the cabin at Lodalen Lake.

3-5 hours hiking

Day 3: Hike from the village of Flo

Today you will drive to a nearby valley for another day of hiking.

Depending on the weather, you will start hiking from the small village of Flo and explore the area with the dramatic fjords as your backdrop. Weather permitting, you’ll be able to hike to the lake found half way up Skåla Mountain (1848m).

Tonight, you will return to the cabin at Lodalen Lake.

6 hours hiking

Day 4: Kayaking or rest day

Today you’ll have the choice of either a guided kayak trip, in a spectacular side fjord arm, or some extra hiking. For those keen to continue hiking there is a very nice and easy hike (the guide will show you where to go) in the valley nearby Ålfoten. Alternatively, you can choose to relax by the fjord.

In the afternoon around 3pm you’ll drive to the ferry for the crossing and continue to the next cabin, approx 1 hour of driving on the other side.

Day 5: Hike to Tungeskaret

This morning, you’ll take a 5-hour round hike from the cabin to Tungeskaret.

This hike will give you an insight into the local cultural history and along the way you can enjoy diverse views of the fjord and the Atlantic Ocean.

At the end of the hike, you’ll return to the beach-side cabin perfect for a late-afternoon dip on the fjord.

5 hours hiking

Day 6: Drive to Bremanger and hike to Veten.

This morning, you’ll drive to the coastal island of Bremanger where you’ll start your hike to the sea cliff, Veten. You’ll set off from a white sandy beach and enjoy views of the hundreds of islands that make the coastal archipelago.

You’ll return to the cabin at the end of the hike and as tonight is your last night, you’ll be served an extra special farewell dinner.

5 hours hiking

Day 7: Return journey home

This morning, you’ll be taken back to Nordfjordeid, where you’ll say your goodbyes at around 10:00.

Note: This itinerary and the duration of the activities are subject to change due to group abilities and preferences, and weather conditions and forecasts. This trip is in the wilderness and as such a degree of flexibility is required. Your guide will always take the final decision based on the safety and well-being of the group.
