What to Expect

Hike and Paraglide

Meet at the base camp in São Conrado, a beachside suburb of Rio.

After registering at the flight club, you’ll set off on foot into the Tijuca National Park, an urban rainforest with views over Rio’s iconic sites.

Hike through the forest and up to the summit of Pedra Bonita at 2,200 feet, spotting wildlife along the way.

Take a break to recharge and enjoy the views from the top over Leblon and Ipanema beaches. Look out for the mysterious Pedra da Gávea, a huge granite mountain reputed to have the face of a giant upon it.

Head to the take-off ramp and set off on your unforgettable flight.

Enjoy a bird’s eye view of Rio and witness its famous sites from the air, including Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana Beach and the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer.

Land safely on the beach below and head back to check out the photos and video while enjoying a delicious bowl of açaí, a Brazilian favourite.

Please note: This trip is highly dependent on good weather conditions. If you are unable to paraglide you will be offered an alternative date or you’ll be refunded.

Known as the Cidade Maravilhosa, or ‘Marvellous City’, Rio de Janeiro is an unforgettable mix of golden beaches, forested mountains and favelas scattered amongst upmarket neighbourhoods. As well as its famous beaches like Leblon, Ipanema and Copacabana, the city is also the birthplace of Samba and home to a thriving nightlife.

The Tijuca National Park is claimed to be the world’s largest urban rainforest, spread over some 32 km² and home to hundreds of species of plants and wildlife, as well as thirty waterfalls and endless hiking opportunities.

Start point?

You’ll meet at the office of Bom Voo Rio paragliding school in the suburb of São Conrado at 08:00.

Finish point?

You’ll return to the Bom Voo office at 12:00.

Getting there and away

Travelling from the UK, there are direct flights to Rio de Janeiro with British Airways, as well as a wide choice of indirect flights via Europe or São Paulo.

Frequently Asked Questions

No experience is needed! The hike is relatively easy and suitable for all abilities, although you will be climbing uphill so wear comfortable shoes.

No paragliding experience is required, however there is a maximum weight limit of 93kg.

The weather in Rio is generally hot and sunny, with temperatures all year round between 25°C and 35°C. December to March is summer, however even outside this time the weather is very pleasant.

Please note that the paragliding will only operate in safe weather conditions. If it is not possible to run the trip then an alternative date or refund will be offered.

Of course! The group size is from one person up to six, so if there are other travellers booked on the trip then you’ll be in a small group.

The only extra costs are travel to and from the paragliding office in São Conrado, an easy taxi ride from anywhere in Rio or on Line 4 of the subway.

You will need to wear comfortable clothing and trainers.
