Need To Know

You should choose a flight that aligns with your agreed arrival and departure time. Airlines such as Air France, EasyJet, Air Corsica, HOP! And Volotea fly into the airport.

Start point?
Your host recommends the Easy Jet flight landing on Sunday at Ajaccio airport at 9:30. After arrival your host recommends you enjoy a short stroll to the beach (5 minutes) to relax and have bite to eat. Your guides can meet you back at Ajaccio airport at 13:30 and transfer you to the start point. Alternatively, you can arrange your own transport to Ascu Stagnu Ski Station.

Finish point?
You will be dropped off on Sunday morning in Ajaccio’s airport. You are free to book any flight from 13:00.

Getting there and away:
You can select whichever flights you like, so long as you meet transfer times. We’ll be in touch before you fly to make sure everything is in order.

Kit is not included so the following items are mandatory:

  • Hiking sticks and walking boots
  • Sleeping bag
  • Summer-appropriate attire: sunglasses; cap; t-shirts; swimming costume; shorts; flipflops for evening
  • Microfibre towels
  • Toiletries: biodegradable soap; toilet paper; toothpaste and brush;
  • Warm clothing: gloves; long-johns and jumpers
  • Utensils: bowl; cutlery; and cup
  • Camelbak/two-litre flask
  • Waterproofs
  • Penknife
  • Headlamp

There are no ATMs once you’re in the mountains, so please bring cash monies. If necessary, some items can be left at our base and collected at the end of the trip. Also, please note that you must carry your own supplies (eight to 11kg).

The food is basic, mostly either pasta or wild pork. Also, because of the high number of people passing through the refuges, dietary requirements cannot be catered for.

The weather is warm and sunny, but prone to drop due to the altitude.

It is a challenging route so good fitness is required and mountaineering experience recommended (but not necessary). Travelers must be able to walk 20-25kms in slightly hilly terrain on multiple days.

In terms of porterage, everyone carries their own supplies, which on average weights from eight to 11 kg. Please ensure you leave 50 to 60L free in your backpack.

We’ve teamed up with the guys at World Nomads to offer insurance designed for adventurous travellers across 140 countries that includes overseas medical, evacuation, baggage and a range of adventure sports and activities.

Your guide hosts the UCPA youth group on some trips and is careful not to mix his clients. UCPA is a French non-profit organisation that makes adventurous activity accessible to people aged 18-39. There is no age limit for a private trip!

Corsica is a vibrant and varying island in the Mediterranean known for its outstanding natural landscape and ample adventure activities. The GR20 is one of Europe’s most challenging trails and it stretches across Corsica, its length totalling at just under 200km. To complete the entire route takes around two weeks, hence many hikers choose to split it into two.

Like its southern extension, the route hosts an impressive array of geographical features. The landscape shifts from desolate, jagged rock shunting out of the earth, to crystal clear pools, rich woodland and luscious meadows. Keep an eye out for the island’s famed rams, savages mouflons, and its national flower, the asphodel.

Accommodation

You’ll be staying in the refuges scattered along the GR20 trail. Accommodation is basic and if you’re not in a tent outside, you’ll be sharing a dorm with other mountaineers. It’s essential that you bring a sleeping bag for this reason, as the majority of refuges only offer mattresses (so you may get pretty cold if you forget!) All of the refuges have hot showers, toilets and either shops or rudimentary restaurants in case you want to buy snacks.

Optional extras: Please note that single room supplements and purchasing additional nights are unavailable for this trip.
