Location

Corsica sits in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and is one of the 18 regions of France; southeast of the mainland and west of the Italian Peninsula. Often subject to attacks from North African pirates, a series of coastal defence towers were erected between 1530 and 1620, the Genoese towers; ruins of which still stand strong today.

One of the outstanding charms of Corsica is its geographic diversity; in a relatively short distance, the landscape can morph from glittering bays, coastal cities, and white-sand beaches to sawtooth peaks, valleys, and dense forests and vegetation.

Although Corsica has been a part of France for over 200 years, the customs, cuisine, language and character hold their own Corsican identity.
