Cape Town is a thriving metropolitan city, teeming with life, that is sure to be on every traveller’s dream tick list. There is something for everyone in Cape Town with culture, adventure, beaches, mountains and fine food all in one place. The city brings together peoples from all of South Africa’s varied cultural groups in a vibrant mix of colour that shows the ‘Rainbow Nation’ at its best. Part of what makes the city so special is its dramatic location, nestled at the point of Africa between the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the infamous Table Mountain.

Standing at 1,084 metres above sea level, Table Mountain is a spectacular backdrop to the city. The mountain is at the heart of the Table Mountain National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Because of the different micro-climates found at changing altitudes on the mountain, it has an incredible diversity of plant life from the deeply forested ravines to the exposed summit plateau. Your route takes in part of the Twelve Apostles that run from Table Mountain to Hout Bay. It’s a great route showcasing some of the best sections of the mountain. It offers a stiff challenge whilst never being overly difficult.

What to Expect

Day Trip: Hiking the Twelve Apostles

Your local host will collect you bright and early from your Cape Town accommodation. The hike starts with a nice warm up along the historic Pipe Track with superb views back over Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Things hot up as you hit Kasteelport and take on the tough but manageable climb up 550 metres over 3km. At the top, you’ll take a quick break at ‘Springboard Rock’ – a great picture opportunity. The hike then runs along the top of the Twelve Apostles to Table Mountain.

Passing through a quiet valley you’ll reach the final 300m climb with some rocky steps and iron ladders on the final push to the summit plateau. Take your time to enjoy the panoramic views. Then, either descend by the rugged Platteklip Gorge or hop in the cable car to save tired knees.

Note: This itinerary and the duration of the activities are subject to change due to group abilities and preferences, and weather conditions and forecasts.

As this is a 1-day adventure, no accommodation is included.
