A Gem of a Trip!

Ella(November 2023)

A great trip - Hamza the guide is excellent and I lucked out with a lovely small group of fellow travellers. Bosnia is so beautiful. Definitely recommend but be prepared it is non stop with a lot of driving time!

Roma(August 2023)

A very well organised trip; great food, lodging and transport! Unfortunately, due to bad weather we were not able to climb Maglic, but our host provided an alternative hiking opportunity to a beautiful lake in the National Park. Our group was fantastic, so in spite of the rain we managed to keep our spirits high! On the whole, I would recommend travelling with MBA!

Rachael(August 2023)

Great opportunity to hike in bosnia and montenegro. Fantastic local guide, really well organised. The lunch and wine tasting on the Friday was fab as was the restaurant on the Saturday night. The accommodation is decent and has everything you need.

Stuart(July 2023)

This was my second MBA trip, I had a brilliant time. The only disappointing part was that due to a thunderstorm, we weren’t able to summit the mountain (better to be safe than sorry!). However, the lovely guide Hamza has offered a personal tour anytime we like to make up for it. He was great as was his partner. They were super nice guys, organised and very knowledgeable (thanks for everything - see you in Sarajevo or London 😄). The bus journeys were smooth, the restaurant en route to the hotel was 5-star (very nice!) and the monastery/wine tasting was a delight. The hotel we stayed in was nice enough, the guy who runs it is great. I enjoyed a nice dip in the outdoor pool! And my fellow hikers, well they were all brilliant. I loved the stories and the jokes we shared ❤️ We had a long wait for our return flight so we took a taxi to Dubrovnik old town. A lovely end to the trip. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to experience Bosnia & Herzegovina

Caitlin(June 2023)

The trip was amazing, I highly recommend getting the transport and visiting the monastery. Lunch there was in a amazing restaurant overlooking the town. The guide was fantastic. Sadly, we were not abe to summit due to bad weather but our guide was amazing and took us hiking a different route and it was stunningly beautiful. Just make sure you pack for all weather's because it is so variable. Some weather forecasts said it was going to be sunny but the mountains had a mind of their own!

Farah(June 2023)

The trek was incredibly STUNNING. Think trekking up streams, mossy rocks and untouched nature. The scale of the National park is beyond comprehension and very untouched. I loved that it was not touristy at all and very much off the beaten track. It was my first hike - ever! And I found some parts very steep for my beginner level but with the guide Hamza was very caring and with his help I managed by using breathwork. We had a great Bosnian coffee by the lake and even though we couldn't summit because of bad weather I don't regret going at all ❤️ The best way to describe the Sujestka National park is Jurassic Park (sans dinosaurs).

Stephanie(June 2023)

Fantastic trip to a beautiful part of the world. Really enjoyed this adventure with a great bunch of people. The local guide was fantastic and really made it a great experience. Unfortunately due to bad weather conditions we couldn’t summit the mountain but we got as far up as was safe on the day. Climb was challenging in parts but very manageable. Accommodation was perfect, had everything needed. Local food was good and no additional costs encountered unless you wanted to buy some drinks. Would definitely recommend to someone that enjoys hiking and we will be looking to book another adventure again soon !

David(October 2022)

Excellent little 3-day trip. As long as you have a reasonable fitness level you'll do the climb no problem. Great guides and super-well organized. The food was amazing too! In all, the trip was excellent value for money!

Freya(October 2022)

Insanely beautiful and fun hike, great way to get an action packed holiday with like minded people, somewhere you otherwise wouldn't think of going. Highly recommend.

Gavin(October 2022)

This tour had it all, a great mixture of terrain, from steep climbs to forest paths, wide expenses and a beautiful lake. It's a bit technical at times but on the easier spectrum of challenging so good for those wanting to move up from moderate. Great accommodation and friendly guides. Definitely worth the trip!

Sarah(October 2022)

Very well organised trip. The hike was manageable and there were some great views. Worth spending extra time in Mostar or Dubrovnik if you have time.

Naomi(September 2022)

Absolutely stunning hike with a decent amount of scrambling. The wine tasting and monastery were great extras

Mike(September 2022)

The route taken is fast becoming a published classic. Not to be underestimated, this is no stroll in the park. There are parts that are quite challenging albeit not technically difficult.

Emily(September 2022)

What an incredible trip! The views, the passion of the guides, and the overall atmosphere in the mountains were fantastic. I've got some truly special memories from this trip that'll last a lifetime, and I can't wait for my next adventure!

Rob(September 2022)

We had such a great time on this trip. The scenery was incredible and we felt very well looked after from the moment we met Alan our guide. Bosnia is such a beautiful place. Would highly recommend.

Cass(September 2022)

This trip was originally rated moderate when we booked it, and on speaking to the rest of the group, they were the same. It changed to challenging before we went which is a much better reflection of the difficulty. There's some great scrambling up the mountain, and the views were absolutely worth it. Be ready for the very steep descent along a scree path - it took a lot to get down. But it was an amazing trip and the group were great. Already eyeing up my next adventure with the company.

Ellie(September 2022)

An absolutely fantastic hike with a brilliant host! Some challenging scrambling sections

Ian(September 2022)

A great experience climbing Mount maglic. We were very lucky with the weather and this made the experience even better and great views from the summit.

Natalie(August 2022)

What an adventure! I had the most amazing time on this trip - the food was incredible as it was fresh, local and hearty, exactly what you need for climbing a mountain. Due to some cancellations there were only two of us on the trip, but that didn’t take anything away. The travel and transfers were very smooth, and due to logistics we had to go a different route up the mountain, which was slightly more challenging, but Igor ( our guide) was very supportive and motivating throughout, it ended up being even better than expected! Igor is very knowledgable and passionate about the local area, and answered all our questions, as well as adding in a visit to the lake! This trip is fantastic value to money and I’d recommend it to everyone! Try and get some incline practice in if you’re not used it as it is steep in places. Thank you MBA!

Sara(August 2022)

Great hike!

Kate(August 2022)

We lucked out with a very small group so could do a slightly different route with lots of fun scrambling and incredible views. Igor is a total pro, really knows his stuff. The climb was challenging but doable even though I'm short and out of condition.

Andrew(July 2022)

This trip was fantastic. It is full on, lots of early mornings, and a tough climb, with some scrambling, though not exposed (thankfully!), but the views and feeling of achievement is so worth it. Guides and hotel host were great, and the food is worth the trip alone. My first MBA trip, definitely not my last.

Stuart(July 2022)

Everything was very good transfers accomodation and a great guide

Charlotte(July 2022)

Loved the hike - fantastic peak and beautiful scenery! Probably challenging rather than moderate but for me that was a bonus.

Paul(July 2022)

Excellent value for money, I feel that Much Better Adventures are underselling themselves in terms of how awesome this trip actually is. The scenery is breathtaking throughout the hike. Much Better Adventures should add some additional photos on their website when advertising this trip, these photos would give potential future travellers a real taste of how beautiful the actual scenery on the hike is. The current photo for this trip on the website is just a picture of Mount Maglić. It would also be worthwhile to mention that parts of the hike are also in Montenegro. This would possibly even encourage more travellers to chose this trekking adventure as they get an option to visit two countries on the trek. To summarise this was an amazing weekend adventure in a part of Europe which encounters tourism in small numbers and is a hidden gem.

Megan(July 2022)

I can't explain how fantastic and beautiful this trip is. The host was fantastic, accomodation comfortable and food is good and large!!!! I value for money is insane. I would note to being gloves as there is a scramble to the top and would have been helpful! Overall fantastic trip

Rachel(July 2022)

We knew little about the area and were amazed by the beauty and variety of the scenery. The climb was challenging with steep scrambles but we were helped every step of the way by Alan and Azra.

James(July 2022)

I can't recommend this trip enough! The hike up Maglic is spectacular, the scenery was better than I could imagined! The guides were great and the food was amazing. It really is great value for money and a great experience to see and learn about a part of the world that's not on the usual tourist trail!

Emma(June 2022)

Amazing trip with stunning views along the way! Accommodation and food were great. Great local guides.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 164kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.

You'll need a reasonable level of fitness as you'll be hiking for 8-10hrs/16km, albeit at a relaxed pace to make sure you save some energy for the final push for the summit. You'll be hiking next to some steep drops at times with a cable to hold onto (although you won't be clipped on) so sure-footedness and a head for heights is necessary. There are also a couple of short steep sections of scrambling towards the summit.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Summer is the best season to experience Bosnia, when daytime temperatures range from 22°C – 30°C, however, the nights can get cooler. During autumn, the days are a little shorter and colder with a higher chance of rain.

Any excess luggage can be safely stored in your hotel.

For current advice about travelling in Bosnia, have a read of the UK Foreign Office pages here.

In the event of poor weather such as heavy rain, strong winds and/or storms, it is possible that conditions may become unsafe for a summit attempt. Your guide will assess the weather for summit day with your safety in mind. If it becomes necessary to make a change to the planned itinerary, you'll either hike as far as is safe to or be offered an alternative hike, which is less challenging but safer in the conditions.
