Fuel up on a hearty camp breakfast and head to Fistral beach, home of some of the best waves in Cornwall, and your first surf lesson. Lessons will be tailored to both the group and you as an individual and whether you’re a first-timer or looking to build on your skills, your coach will make sure you get the best from your time on the water. Learn how to manage your board, paddle and that all-important wave timing and return to your woodland wild camp where your yoga instructor will be waiting in an open-sided barn.

In this peaceful setting, you'll be guided through stretches and poses that relax and recharge your muscles and mind; if you’ve never tried yoga before, you’ll be a convert for sure. Suitably chilled, it’s time for food, drinks and laughs (there’s a handy supermarket across the road from the beach to stock up) followed by some axe throwing and games before getting cosy in your bell tent.

Surf and Yoga in Cornwall

Newquay has a range of restaurants for any budget, as well as a supermarket across the street from the surf shop. You'll need to buy ingredients for dinner at the camp - simple is best as you will be BBQ’ing and cooking over the camp fire. Given the diversity of food available in town, all dietary requirements can be accommodated including vegetarian and vegan diets. You will be provided with a basic camp breakfast that should be enough to keep you going but please bring some extra snacks if you're an extra hungry morning person.

Surf, Yoga and Wild Camp in Cornwall
Newquay

You’ll wildcamp on untouched private land 11 miles outside Newquay. Home for the weekend is a spacious canvas bell tent, arranged in a tranquil woodland setting with festive banners and twinkle lights. Each bell tent sleeps 4 people and comes with simple carpet and airbeds. You'll need to bring your own sleeping bag & pillow (or you can rent a sleeping bag from your host if you prefer to travel light - see Optional Extras). There are composting toilets, washing-up facilities and rustic gas showers, all outdoors in the peaceful countryside.

Upgrades

Friends or couples wishing to stay in their own two-man bell tent equipped with an air bed can request this after booking (unfortunately solo occupancy is not available in the bell tents). See Optional Extras for prices.

Teresa(August 2023)

Loved this trip away to Cornwall. The Campsite was gorgeous and very eco-friendly. It was a nice change of pace of life and loved sitting around the campfire chatting. Victor and Willow were fantastic guides and Victor was an excellent surf instructor. I loved Amiee's yoga classes - these were exactly what you needed to stretch out after surfing.

Katie(May 2023)

A super fun weekend surfing (or trying to!) and the perfect way to use an extra bank holiday. As it was my first time surfing I didn't realise how tiring it would be and I think a top tip is to book a hotel Sunday night with a spa to let your body recover!

Giles(May 2023)

Great all round trip for the peferect Cornwall get away/experience! Cosy camping spot with fresh water lake along with nice kitchen and social area with awesome fire pit area. Activities were really well organised and the staff were just fantastic.

100% would recommend👌🏼

Deborah(May 2023)

So great! Highly recommend.

Philippa V.(May 2023)

I had a great time and would recommend the trip. But I'm not sure it's value for money. I would also recommend hiking boots for the camp! If the weather is wet and you just have runners then your feet will get wet!

Chloe(August 2022)

10/10 do recommend! Everyone on the team is great. Surfing is great. Yoga is great. And the campsite is super cute. What more do you want?

Jos(August 2022)

I had great fun here- the instructors were very helpful about my disability- turns out it's hard to start surfing if you can't see the waves coming... (and no you can't really wear glasses while surfing either...) And the yoga and campsite was gorgeous- being able to see the stars at night was fabulous, absolutely no light pollution at all!

Alexandra(August 2022)

Highly recommend to anyone.

Michelle(September 2021)

Nourishing, wonderful, enjoyable weekend. Felt really well looked after and the campsite really was magical. So so special. And the surfing instructors were fab

Carly(September 2021)

Really fun trip. Greg, our surf instructor was great! Lovely camp hosted by the fab Aimee. Loved the yoga. Only thing missing was a shower but doable for one night.

Amanda(September 2021)

Camp site and Amy the yoga instructor were great! Overall recommend the trip. Recommend bringing a car so you can transport yourself to/from campsite so you don’t have to rely on others from the trip. Surfing was a bit crowded and hard to practice and 1 instructor for 5/6 people. Overall great trip and bring bug spray and as not on kit list!

Simon(August 2021)

The surfing was fantastic great equipment fun guides the yoga was not too stressful and the wild camping was amazing.

Laura(August 2021)

We went on the yoga and surf wild camp holiday, it was so much fun trying surfing, our surf coaches were really attentive and super helpful. The yoga afterwards was restorative and the teacher Aimee was lovely. The tents and the camp as a whole were really clean and it was a great experience!

Selena(August 2021)

Great weekend. Beat part by far is the surfing. Instructors are great and is the highlight. The wild camp was cool and yoga was ok. Nice for a weekend break

Daniel(July 2021)

I had a great time on this trip. The staff were so accommodating and easy to get on with. From the moment I arrived it was a good vibe. We weren’t sure initially if we’d get to surf due to the conditions but luckily there were waves to get us going as beginners.

Max was a great instructor and created a fun environment for us to learn together. As the surfing continued he offered tips to help progression which was appreciated (and needed).

The campsite was easy to get to and had everything we needed from it. The tents were spacious - more than enough room for me as a solo traveller.

Yoga in the evening sun and then the following morning was enjoyable. I wasn’t specifically there for the yoga side and had never done it before, but Zoe took us through different movements re ability. So whether beginner or experienced everyone was able to participate.

All in all it was really fun and I feel great value for money. I’d certainly book other trips with Much Better Adventures and Cornish Wave. Thank you to the team for providing a great weekend.

Annmarie(July 2021)

Emma(July 2021)

Fantastic! Everything was well organised and we enjoyed the activities - we were apprehensive about the surfing beforehand, as total newbies, but the instructors were great. Would definitely recommend.

Amy(June 2021)

This is a great trip, ideal to get an intro to surfing. The hosts and surf coaches were great, incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, the wild camp is a lovely space, and the yoga was a dream.

Jessica(January 2021)

We really enjoyed the surfing weekend, the instructors were helpful and clear and it was a lot of fun! The wild camp set up is really cosy with lots of games and a firepit. Thanks Victor and Greg for a great weekend!

Emily(January 2021)

Everything about this trip was great! The equipment, facilities and organisation of the whole trip is excellent. The hosts and instructors are all wonderful; really helpful, great instructors and best of all just awesome people to be around. I had an injury during the trip (not related to the trip, long term back issue) and they could not have been more helpful. Everything was great about this trip and I will definitely be back to complete the other adventure weekends they are offering!

Billy(January 2021)

Hosts Jay and Max were great guys who were very professional but also a good laugh.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 17kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.

All you need is a basic level of fitness and the ability to swim 25 metres. No previous surfing, yoga or camping experience is required.

If you're new to surfing, you’ll learn the basics in two comprehensive lessons, including water safety, paddling, catching waves and steering the board. When you’re ready, your instructor will teach you how to pop up and ride a wave back in to shore. While it can’t be guaranteed, your instructors are confident that you’ll be standing up and surfing by the end of your lessons.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

In an open-sided barn nestled in the woods near the campsite - a lovely setting for some relaxing yoga.

The surf camp is a place to immerse yourself in the peace of an untouched forest or just have a good chat around the campfire.

Hone your campfire BBQ skills, challenge your friends to an axe throwing contest and practice your balance on the slack line. You’re welcome to do as much or as little at you want. Relaxing in your bell tent with a good book is always an option.

Your camp has a large covered BBQ area suitable for cooking in all weathers. There’s also a basic camp cooker and all the utensils, plates, cups etc.

Summer in Newquay is cool and sunny. From May to October temperatures range from 16 – 21 °C during the day, and cool off to 10 – 14 °C at night. Days are usually sunny and clear. Full-length winter wetsuits are provided even in the summer to ensure that you stay nice and warm in the water.

Of course. Each surf session is roughly 1.5 hours long, however, you're welcome to keep the board afterwards and surf on your own.

If you feel that you'll struggle to see without your glasses, then please do wear them, however, we'd suggest securing them with a piece of string so you won't lose them. Daily throw away contact lenses are the best option for surfing.

This means that it’s possible that your group may consist of people who haven't booked through the Much Better Adventures website. But rest assured, anyone booking this trip is in search of an active, outdoors adventure, just as you are!

Our recommended travel insurance provider is Campbell Irvine.

Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures and you are required to provide your policy information before departing.

Your insurance should include adequate protection for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment and the specific activities involved on your adventure. We also strongly recommend it includes cancellation and curtailment insurance, should you be unable to join your trip for specific reasons such as illness.

We fully endorse Campbell Irvine as their insurance offers all of the above, so get in touch with them or call on 020 7938 1734 to get your insurance sorted.
