Scramble to the top of Mt Toubkal (13,671 ft) and the double summits of Mt Ouanoukrim: Timzguida (13,415 ft) and Ras (13,396 ft)

Hike through the Imlil Valley with Berber guides and your own mule train

Stay in a classic Marrakech riad and scenic mountain refuges built in incredible places

Key Information

Day 1

Discover Marrakech

The rooftops of Marrakesh, Morocco.

Fly into the colorful city of Marrakech and head to your traditional riad in the historic medina. Spend the day exploring the souk and the unforgettable main square/ever-changing show that is the Jemaa el-Fnaa – a place that’s been beguiling and entertaining travelers for centuries. Finish the day with some amazing Moroccan food in a local restaurant.

Day 2

The foothills of the Atlas Mountains

A woman leans against a rock on the rocky slopes of Mount Toubkal, Morocco.

Hiking

6hrs · 12km · 1540m up · 300m down

Wake up early and drive through the foothills of the Atlas Mountains to Imlil, where you'll meet your support crew and start your trek. Gradually ascend the Toubkal Valley, pass Berber farming villages and stop for lunch on the trail. In the afternoon you’ll arrive at the refuge. Settle in, meet other hikers and refuel with a well-earned dinner cooked by your support crew.

Day 3

Summit two peaks in one

The rocky, dusty slopes of Morocco's Mount Toubkal at sunrise.

Hiking

6-7hrs · 12km · 1000m up · 1000m down

Today you'll climb Mt Toubkal’s sister peaks; the Mt Ouanoukrim (13,415 ft) 'twins', Timzguida (13,415 ft) and Ras (13,396 ft). You'll set off from the refuge and tackle a short scramble to ascend the ridge over the Tizi n Ouagane pass. Incredible views to be had from the top as you stand atop the second and third highest peaks in North Africa. You can see all the way across the High Atlas range, including Mt Toubkal, your challenge for tomorrow. Head back to the refuge for a good sleep ahead of the final push.

Day 4

The mighty Mount Toubkal (13,671 ft)

A male hiker relaxes on a rock at the summit Morocco's Mount Toubkal.

Hiking

10hrs · 20km · 1130m up · 2530m down

Two down, one to go! You'll leave in darkness and climb to the summit of Mt Toubkal (13,671 ft) arriving in time for a beautiful sunrise over the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert. Rest up, bag some epic pics and begin the long descent back to Imlil. You’ll arrive at your riad in the early evening in time to find a restaurant for couscous or a tasty tagine before collapsing into bed.

Day 5

Time to say goodbye

Colourful lights and lanterns hang from the ceiling of a souk in Morocco.

What is the food like?

Moroccan food is a unique blend of sweet and savory flavors. Local specialties include tajines (a stew cooked in an earthenware pot), couscous and pastilles (flaky pastries stuffed with meat and dusted with cinnamon and sugar). Food is often spiced with cumin, turmeric and ginger.

Meals on the trek are fresh, healthy and cooked by your Berber muleteers. Breakfast will usually feature bread, jelly, cookies, fruit, juice, coffee and milk; while lunch will feature salad, tomatoes, carrots, lentils, beans, rice or pasta, fish (sardines, tuna) and seasonal fruit. Dinner will usually include soup, a classic Moroccan tajine, couscous, olives, nuts and fruit.

Vegetarians, vegans and other dietary requirements and allergies can be catered for - please just request on your passenger info form.

What is the accommodation like?

Inside a riad in Marrakesh
Marrakech

You'll stay in a beautiful riad - a traditional Moroccan house with an interior garden or courtyard. The exact riad will be confirmed closer to the time based on availability and group size, however, all are chosen for their excellent reputation, location, beautiful decor, and welcoming service.

A mountain refuge on the slopes of Mount Toubkal, Morocco.
On the trek

You'll stay in the Mouflons mountain refuge located at 10,522 ft. Facilities are basic, with bunk-bed dorms; however, there is a fun, social area to relax in the evening and chat with other climbers from all around the world.

Upgrades

For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room can be booked for an extra charge for the nights in Marrakech, see Optional Extras for the price. Please request this at the time of booking (this is subject to availability and they are very limited due to the layout of traditional riads).

This trip has been rated as Challenging

Full days of scenic hiking, loose footing, altitude - you'll need a good level of fitness for this one. The walking, however, is of a moderate difficulty and relatively straightforward and the views make the journey more than worthwhile!

What will I need to carry?

Mules will carry your main overnight luggage during the trek and you will need to carry your daypack with your daytime essentials (extra layer, snacks, water etc.). For the welfare of the mules, please ensure your main overnight luggage is in a soft-sided bag and weighs no more than 33 lbs.

Spring and fall temperatures in Marrakech average 50 - 77 °F, and it rains a small amount roughly seven days each month. From June to September it gets quite hot in the city, averaging 59 - 95 °F, and it only rains a few days each month. In the height of summer, daytime temperatures in Marrakech have been known to approach 113 °F on occasions so please ensure that you come prepared with sun protection, light and airy clothing, and electrolytes/rehydration solutions if traveling at this time of year.

In the Atlas Mountains from March to October daytime temperatures average 77 - 86 °F but it cools off considerably at night, and the higher you go the colder it gets (you may even need gloves on a summit day in August!) Nighttime temperatures can drop below freezing at and above the mountain refuge. Afternoon storms are always possible, but they are usually quick and generally don’t prevent anyone from enjoying the trek.

Wow, what an experience the 3 peak challenge was. I just can’t praise the guides enough for looking after us on an awesome challenge and for engaging in the group craic, 3 pure legends in their own right!! What a fantastic group of people to have done the hike with too. Everyone got involved and that just made it. The scramble up Mt Ouanoukrim was a bit hairy for novices but fair play to the hides they got us up and down in one piece. The riad in Marrakesh was just perfect. Located in the middle of the old town we just had to step outside the door for the authentic experience. The mountain refuge during the hike, well what can you say, it was a roof over our head and plenty warm. I’d definitely recommend this trip and MBA, everything was so well organised and the people where pure gold.

Definitely a challenge, but worth every blister! Well organised from the beginning to the end, amazing guides who made sure it was safe, and couldn't do more to look after us, highly recommended!

An amazing trip, with a fantaatic group! The guides were great; very friendly, helpful, attentive and took really good care of the group. The food was terrific and a special mention for the amazing cook at the mountain hut. Summit of Mt Toubkal was great and the additional mountains were a real treat.

Recommend this trip to anyone wanting to bag a few 4000m mountains, and for anyone who enjoys a scramble and more technical routes the 3 peaks is a must over Toubkal alone. Organisation was great throughout and the guides were excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Had a great experience doing this challenge. Both guides, Muhammed and Said were great the whole time and the food was very good throughout. I actually enjoyed climbing the other 2 peaks more than Toubkal so they are well worth adding on. Marrakech is also a great city to visit. Overall a great trip, one I enjoyed so much I am looking to come back to climb Toubkal in winter.

An Unforgettable Adventure – Beyond Just One Peak!

I’ve just completed the 3 Peaks Challenge in Morocco with Much Better Adventures, and I genuinely can’t recommend it enough. This trip far exceeded my expectations – it’s not just about ticking off Toubkal; the inclusion of the two other peaks, the varied and remote routes, and the incredible scramble make this a truly epic adventure from start to finish.

The whole experience was incredibly well-organised. The support team and guides were phenomenal – professional, passionate, and relentlessly dedicated to our safety and enjoyment. They kept spirits high no matter the conditions and made everyone feel supported throughout. Their knowledge of the mountains and local culture added so much depth to the journey.

There was plenty of food at every stage, and the logistics – from mountain huts to summit pushes – ran seamlessly. What really stood out for me was the camaraderie within the group and how well the guides brought everyone together to make this feel like a shared adventure rather than just a challenge.

If you’re looking for something more than just a one-day summit, this is the trip to book. It’s tough, it’s rewarding, and it’s absolutely unforgettable. Thank you to the whole team – I’ll be reliving this experience for a long time to come!

Worth every penny

We had an unforgettable time in Morocco last weekend taking on the Three Peaks Challenge with Much Better Adventures. Seven of us made the journey, and we were incredibly lucky to be guided by three outstanding professionals—experienced, friendly, and always ready with a smile or a joke. Their knowledge of the mountains and attention to our safety meant we could focus on enjoying the experience. We always felt supported, encouraged, and in safe hands. The camaraderie with the guides made the adventure even more special—lots of laughs, great conversations, and memories we’ll be talking about for a long time. A truly amazing adventure from start to finish.

Excellent experience from start to finish. Transfers, riad accommodation pre and post trek as well as the mountain refuge were all very pleasant and clean.

Our guide (Mohammed) as well a the other guides were lovely, insightful and caring. The guides catered to the ability of everyone in the group, ensuring that nobody was left out or strayed from the group.

The food at the mountain refuge was of a good standard and there was always more than we needed.

Loved the whole experience, no issues other than headache and nausea which I expected given there is very little time to get used to the altitude. I found the ascents very difficult especially the last 10% but the trip is described as ‘challenging’ so is to be expected. Guides were great as was food, although loss of appetite means I couldn’t fully appreciate it. A little disappointed with the misty weather when climbing the sister peaks but that’s mountains for you. But sunrise at the upper ridge on Toubkal was mesmerising and brought several of the group to tears, myself included. There was a fantastic mix of folks in the group and we all made the summit of Toubkal. A proposal at the top of one couple made it even more memorable (she said yes!) We found the queues at the airport both in and out very tiresome but obviously that is not an MBA issue.

Wow! What a trip! The team at Much Better Adventures made this a really easy trip to be part of - all the logistics were well communicated, our extra night was simple to organise, and pre arranged collection from the airport took all of the stress out of the travel.

The local team in Morocco were even better, and I can't praise them highly enough! Our guide, Mohamed, was excellent, and ensured the team was well supported throughout the trip. The pace uphill was just right - steady, but allowing for conversation. When a team member didn't feel well (altitude), this was managed quickly, and with compassion.

Generally, the walking was straight forward, with the main challenge being the altitude. Doing the extra day of walking (instead of only summiting Jbel Toubkal) made it much easier to be comfortable on the summits as we had some additional time to acclimatise. Having not been at this high altitude before, I was surprised how much it added to the challenge. The extra day for the two additional summits gave awesome views, and a much less busy route - easily my favourite day of the trip!

Staying in the refuge was good fun. We were lucky to have had a dorm for our group, so didn't need to worry about waking others on the sunrise summit day. Food in the refuge was authentic and plentiful, A small tuckshop was open in the afternoons for coffee/snacks in case of wanting anything supplementary.

The group dynamic was perfect - everyone was enthusiastic and invested in enjoying the trip. The group I was with was roughly even genders, and a mix of couples, friends and singletons across a wide spread of ages.

Overall, a 10/10 experience!

The hikes were enjoyable and challenging, with excellent views. It was a good challenge to see how the body responded to the higher altitude. The food was great and the guides really looked after us. I think a better description could be given for this trip’s difficulty. There was a big disparity in the group in terms of fitness levels and experience - many struggled with the scrambling sections on Day 2

Unreal trip from start to finish! My luggage got lost on the way over to Morocco which made it a bit more difficult without any clothes or equipment. Arriving late the night before the itinerary started, I feared I would not be able to go on the trip at all. After speaking with the people at aztat treks who were the local guides arranging everything for us, they reassured me that I would still be able to take part in the trip and that they would help in any way they can. They have a rental shop to provide the essentials and other people on the trip also helped me out with basics such as clothes and toiletries. even with this huge inconvenience the trip was still manageable, albeit more challenging. Met some amazing people and you can see from the views that it was worth every second! Will be back for more next year for bigger and better!

Would recommend but in hindsight I think I would have preferred to have just done Mt Toubkal. The Twin Peaks were phenomenal and views were stunning but sketchy route that isn't very well trodden and arguably a bit dangerous especially in the wind!

A TRULY MEMORABLE HIKING EXPERIENCE

I recently completed the 3 Peaks Challenge in Morocco, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. The trip was meticulously organized, and the guides were exceptional. They ensured everyone could hike at their own pace, making the challenging ascents manageable for all. The group's average pace was comfortable and allowed us to fully appreciate the breathtaking scenery.

The food was absolutely fantastic – far exceeding my expectations. Each meal was a feast, plentiful and delicious, keeping us well-nourished and energized throughout the journey. The sense of community among the group was wonderful; it was great to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for hiking and adventure.

The guides were not only knowledgeable and supportive but also incredibly friendly. They made sure everyone felt safe and encouraged, fostering a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or new to mountain trekking, this adventure strikes the perfect balance between challenge and enjoyment.

I highly recommend this hiking experience to anyone seeking an unforgettable adventure in the stunning Atlas Mountains. The combination of superb food, amazing guides, and a fantastic group of people made this trip truly memorable.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 222kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.

Absolutely! We recognize that you may want to leave some of the gear you bring to Morocco somewhere safe before you start your trek. When you reach Imlil, you will be able to leave any non-essential items you don’t want to take on the hike at your local guide's base there.

Your host works with muleteers who collaborate with local charity, Spana, (The Society for the Protection of Animals and Nature) on the AMI program (Aid to the Mules of Imlil). The charity provides training, guidance and incentives to mule owners to encourage and support good care for their animals in all aspects of their working lives. The program also provides a monthly clinic which offers free veterinary care to the animals and the distribution of humane tack.

Ramadan is expected to take place from February 17 to March 19, 2026. The national holiday of Eid ul-Fitr will follow for 2-3 days. Ramadan is an Islamic festival where the religious do not eat or drink during daylight hours. While this is a really interesting time to travel, especially to witness celebrations where the fast is broken in the evenings, you can expect some business hours will be shortened, alcohol is not permitted during daylight hours, and some restaurants will be closed during this festival period. Activities for local people tend to be limited during the day, and the nights are very active in cities with lots of different foods being sold and consumed. Ramadan will not affect the inclusions on your trip, although you should be aware that dinners will be served after locals break their fast in the evenings.

This trip visits locations at or above 8,000ft, where some people may experience symptoms of Altitude Sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Previous experience at altitude doesn’t guarantee the same response again – your body can react differently on each trip. However, having been at altitude before is still valuable: it gives you a better understanding of how your body might respond, what symptoms to look out for, and how to manage your pace and energy levels.

Your guide is trained to manage the risk of altitude sickness by controlling the rate of ascent, monitoring group wellbeing, and responding appropriately if anyone feels unwell.

Before booking, we recommend considering your personal health, particularly if you have any pre-existing conditions, and consulting a medical professional if you’re unsure. Arriving early to allow your body to acclimatize can also make a big difference.

Your travel insurance must cover the maximum altitude reached on this trip and include emergency evacuation.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.

Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers review the practical information available on the UK Government’s FCDO website, where you can find up-to-date advice by searching for your destination(s).

If you are based in the United States, you can also check the latest travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State.

For customers joining from other international locations, we recommend checking the official travel advice issued by your country of residence, as guidance may vary.

We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates daily, so prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.

You're always in good company on one of our adventures.

Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.

Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.

It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.

Don't just take our word for it:

  • 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
  • 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
  • 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends
