Key Information
Day 1
Welcome to Slovakia

Meet your host in Krakow and take a scenic drive over the border into Slovakia, then on to your guesthouse in the UNESCO-protected town of Levoča. Check in, unwind and then meet up with the rest of your group for dinner and a chance to review the plan for the days ahead.
Day 2
One day, two gorges

Hiking
Head into the Slovak Paradise National Park and see for yourself why it lives up to its name. Hike along the bottom of Sucha Bela Gorge, one of the longest and most popular canyons in the park, trek through water, climb over fallen trees and ascend ladders – you'll even pass a window-like hole in the rock. Emerge from the canyon and have lunch at a mountain hut before continuing through Prielom Hornadu gorge, famous for the series of ledges and catwalks that rise above the Hornad River. Return to Levoča in time for dinner and a good night's sleep.
Day 3
Fireplace Gorge

Hiking
Head back into the park and explore Piecky (Fireplace) Gorge, which gets its name from the amazing rock formations that span the canyon. More ladders await as you climb beside multi-story waterfalls, including some horizontal ones that take you over green and blue pools of water. After hiking we head back to the town, have an early dinner before heading out to relax at the hot springs when it's quiet and cool.
Day 4
One last hike

Hiking
Check out and venture into the National Park one last time on a hike to a stunning, 656 ft high rock shelf with excellent views over the entire area you’ve been exploring. Hike back down and return to Krakow in time for your flight home with new stories and photos to share with your friends.

Transfers
Your adventure begins at Krakow Airport (KRK) with your airport transfer at 17:00. Please schedule your flight to arrive more than 30 minutes before this time, your driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals area.
At the end of your adventure, you will be dropped back at Krakow Airport (KRK) at about 15:30. You’re free to book any flight that departs after 17:30.
Travel options
There are regular flights to Krakow from major airports across the UK and Europe.
Your group arrival and departure transfers are long (180km/approximately 3.5 hours) and include a border crossing. For this reason, private transfers are not usually offered by your host as the cost is prohibitive and you are encouraged to join the group arrival/departure transfers.
As the first and last day of your adventure are full days and the traffic between Krakow Airport and the city is usually heavy, it is not possible to be picked up or dropped off at a city hotel. However, public transport between the city and the airport is good. There is a train that leaves once or twice per hour, this takes 17minutes and is very economical.
Alternatively, there are a small number of flights between the UK and Poprad-Tatry Airport. Private transfers between this airport and your starting/finishing point are not available, however, the cost of a taxi is approximately 15-25 EUR one way.

What is the food like?
Slovakian food is fresh and hearty, with staples like pork, poultry, cheese, pastry, potatoes, onions, and garlic. Lentil and vegetable stews are also common, as is wild game, pasta, and the dish bryndzove halušky—small potato dumplings with cheese. You'll have plenty of time to stock up on local food for lunches while out hiking.
There are also a variety of restaurants in town, including European-American fusion, pizza, pubs, and Italian. It’s possible to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets on this trip; just let your host know before arrival.
What is the accommodation like?

Levoča
While hiking in the Slovak National Park, you'll stay at the Hotel U Leva – a family-run, 3-star hotel in a restored medieval building right in the heart of town. Rooms are en suite and include WiFi, satellite TV and a minibar. The hotel serves a delicious fresh breakfast each day.
Please note, select departures will stay next door at the Hotel Arkada, which is of a similar standard, or at Podlesok Ranch, which is right at the edge of Slovak Paradise National Park.
Upgrades
For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room can be booked for an extra charge, see Optional Extras. Please request this at the time of booking (this is subject to availability).
This trip has been rated as Moderate
You'll be covering 7 - 11 miles each day across uneven terrain, so a moderate level of fitness is needed to enjoy it to the fullest, however, elevation gains are modest (1,312 - 2,297 ft) and while the trails are complex, you'll be moving at a slow pace.
The ladders, catwalks, and ledges (some of which are quite narrow) are very sturdy and secure, however, you should be comfortable with heights. Imagine climbing up to the 3rd story of a building on a ladder. If you can do that, you'll be fine and your guide will never be far away.
The Slovak Paradise National Park in summer is beautiful and relatively warm. From June to August the average daytime temperatures on a sunny day can range from 68 - 86°F, but at night it cools down to as low as 46°F. In the spring and fall it's a little chillier, ranging from 50 - 64°F during the day and 37 - 43°F at night. Fall is the driest season and also features some beautiful colors.
Excellent Hiking
An excellent weekend of Hiking! The routes we took through the gorges and canyons were very fun, and certainly unique.
The weather was not ideal, but our guides managed to re-jig the itinerary so we still got to do all of the best hikes without getting too wet.
Just got back from an
Just got back from an incredible hiking trip in Slovakia and wow — what an experience! The trails were absolutely stunning, from misty forests to jaw-dropping mountain views that felt straight out of a dream. Every turn had something new to offer — wildflowers, waterfalls, and those epic panoramic moments where you just have to stop and soak it all in.
The air felt cleaner, the vibe was peaceful, and the connection to nature was real. Met some great people along the way, ate some surprisingly good local food (hello bryndzové halušky!), and just totally recharged. If you’re into hiking, nature, or just need to hit reset, Slovakia is seriously underrated. Already planning my next trip back!

Amazing Hiking in Slovenia!!
Had an unforgettable time hiking through Slovenia with our fantastic guides, Patrik and Michal. Their knowledge, energy, and humour made every trail enjoyable. The scenery was stunning and the group itself was a great mix of friendly, like-minded adventurers.
Patrik and Michal created the perfect atmosphere for both challenge and fun. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience — highly recommended!

Fabulous fun
A bit like an enormous adult playground- wonderful walks (and wildlife spotting) with ladders and balancing across the platforms. Our guide was lovely- the accommodation was more luxurious than I had expected and the food was great too. . ,
Fantastic long weekend trip!
An amazing trip overall, made even more special thanks to Patrik and Michal, our guides. Met some fantastic people! Highly recommend this trip!
Really good long weekend hiking
Really good long weekend hiking in Slovakia everything was as described on the itinerary, our guide Patrik was brilliant and made everyone feel at ease and also made sure I was looked after as I have a gluten intolerance he was clued up on it and I felt comfortable and trusted him when he checked food in restaurants and shops.

Breathtaking scenery
Trekking in Slovakia was an incredible experience. The country is extremely beautiful with scenery to rival the best of Canada or the USA. Our guides Tom and Peter were very professional, knowledgeable and great company. The hiking through gorges and ladder climbs were wonderful, each day offering something different. The group quickly bonded, and were great fun. We had a truly amazing adventure and will be booking more travel through Much Better Adventures soon. Thanks Tom and Peter for an unforgettable adventure.

Fantastic trip!
From beginning to end the organisation of this trip was outstanding, with enough wriggle room to accommodate some individual’s needs. The guides were very knowledgeable and trustworthy and made me feel completely safe doing some new, fairly challenging activities. I loved every minute of this trip and I would highly recommend it.
Stunning!
So enjoyed this short trip. It exceeded all my expectations. The group were great fun, the guides Tom and Peter were fabulous and the itinerary was very well thought out with a good balance between free time and activities. Slovakia is incredibly beautiful and the treks were completely different to anything I’d ever done before. The time flew by and I would happily have stayed longer
Slovakia National Park
Our guides, Tom and Peter, were amazing, they catered to all our needs and were very well organised, to the point of feeling spoilt. The whole hike was beautiful, not difficult, though with technical elements and surprising moments along the way, which kept the hike exciting. I highly recommend this trip.

What a fantastic trip!
Our group of 12 have just returned from a hiking trip in the Slovak Paradise National Park with many great stories to tell - What a fantastic trip!
From start to finish everything ran smoothly - thanks to the MBA team for making it so easy.
The local guides Tom & Peter were very accommodating and informative, their knowledge of the area was incredible and helped us to navigate with ease. From guidance on the trails, telling us about the history of the region, advice on restaurants and highlighting local points of interest - they had it all!
Thanks to the whole team for making this such an enjoyable few days away that the group will remember for the rest of our lives!
Another fantastic trip
This was our second trip with Much Better Adventures and again was fantastic. A great tour company. Slovakia was a beautiful country and the routes we took led to some spectacular views. The ladder climbs weren't challenging and very easy to climb. The guides were great fun.
The town we were based in was very quiet- with the small number of bars closing early so we had early nights. Hotel was great with huge rooms.
The hike is on the
The hike is on the challenging side for less athletic individuals and there were sections of the trail that were quite slippery and difficult to pass, even in dry weather. The guides were great at helping participants over the challenging spots, and overall I thought the tour was fantastic. The guides were also very friendly and had lots of suggestions for places to eat and other things to do in the area.

Magical adventure in Slovakia!
This was my first adventure trip with Much Better Adventures! It was such a magical and adrenaline inducing hike in the beautiful Slovakia National Park. We were blessed with amazing weather and fairy-tale like colours. Our guides, Patrik and Michal, were super helpful and chill. My highlight of the trip was the 14M tall ladder and 'Indiana Jones' type of bridges and walkways along the cliffs! I'm already looking at other mba adventures and planning my 2025 trips!

Awesome weekend
Great group, knowledgeable and helpful guides - couldn't have improved on anything - even the weather was superb ....came home and immediately started planning next years adventures. Thank you Patrick and Mikel

A fantastic and stunning trip!
A hugely enjoyable 3 days hiking around the beautiful forests of Slovakia. We were extremely lucky with the weather and enjoyed the stunning views, sunshine and colours that the Autumn landscape had to offer. Our main guide Patrick was brilliant, very knowledgeable, patient and helpful. The ladders and routes were The hotel was super comfortable and everything was very well organised. We were catered for very, very well. All transport was also comfortable, easy and well managed.
excellent guides lovey scenery pleasure
excellent guides lovey scenery pleasure to holiday with made lots new friends (as we had large group ) went weekend of Oct 17th 2024 will use again as now looking for our next adventure.

What a way to spend a weekend!
Our amazing guides (Patrik and Michel) put so much effort into making sure we had fun. Everything went so smoothly from pick up at the airport to drop off at the end of our adventure. Nothing was a problem and all abilities were accommodated. I don’t really have a head for heights and wanted to challenge myself and with the encouragement of the group and some determination I managed the ladders and felt safe at all times. The safety briefings were pitched just right.. but read the trip notes to make sure you are able for and comfortable with the challenges. We had amazing weather which made the weekend very special. The hotel was great and provided a great selection of breakfasts and loads for vegetarians too. The start and finish were perfect. Just the right amount of free time. The group was managed ( but it never felt like we were actively managed) like clockwork… no hiccups, everyone found what they needed from the local bakery, shops, banks… everything was considered.
This trip under promised and over delivered. I will be back!!

Beautiful adventure in the national park
We loved the hiking up the river with all the ladders and platforms! And the beautiful autumn colors of the forest in the crisp air and sunlight of the clear blue sky was stunning. Great food at the hotel too. And the thermal baths were perfect to relax after the hikes.
Amazing weekend in a beautiful part of Europe
We had an amazing weekend with Patrick, our very knowledgeable guide for the weekend. He made it really fun and the scenery is outstanding. Hotel was simple, but clean and welcoming and had fabulous food. The town is lovely, feels very non touristy and the local restaurants and bars are cosy and great value. All in all, a great trip, worth every penny and would highly recommend

Magic weekend!
Patrick was a brilliant guide - knowledgeable and good energy. The photos don’t do this trip justice. Do it!
Fantastic adventure in a beautiful country
I loved this trip it was a fantastic mix of incredible scenery, amazing activities and great company. Our guides Jan and Roman were fab! They gave us all a warm welcome and looked after us brilliantly throughout the trip sharing their knowledge and passion for the local area whilst managing to set a pace that worked well for the group. I’d 100% recommend this trip, it was a great escape in a breathtakingly beautiful part of the world ☺️.
Hiking with a difference
If you love hiking, have a head for heights and a good sense of balance then this is the trip for you, challenging but fun. The surroundings are beautiful and the guides were great. Levoca was a lovely town to be based in.
Fantastic weekend
Had an amazing weekend in Slovakia. A very beautiful country. Great hosts in Jan and Roman. Fun challenges on the walking. Would highly recommend.

Weekend in Slovakia
Great trip, beautiful views and friendly guides. Our group had Jan and Roman, who made the effort to make you feel safe and included! I’d definitely recommend this trip.

So much fun!
My first solo trip but third trip with MBA. After really enjoying my previous MBA trips, I felt confident enough to attend as a solo traveller. I added on a couple of days in Krakow beforehand which was really great and would recommend doing so as there is a lot to see and also some really great bars and restaurants too. Tomas and Miro were great guides and managed to build a good relationship with everyone in a short amount of time. I enjoyed how Tomas added in historical/political/cultural information about Slovakia throughout the trip, particularly appreciated because we had quite a short visit. The adventure hiking was SO much fun!! The accommodation was also perfect for what we needed it for, it was nice to be based in the same place for a few days. Definitely recommend this trip!

Great trip-highly recommend
Highly recommend this trip-great getaway and hiking through the forest with the ladders and bridges did feel like it was far away from civilization. Also we were well shielded from the Sun with all the trees so bonus points for that

Great trip, great people
This was my first time going solo on a group hiking trip. Overall it was a great experience which I would definitely do again and recommend to others.
Our guides, Patrick and Fero, were excellent from start to finish. After being picked up from Krakow Airport at a set time and being introduced to the group, we got to see gorgeous views of Polish and Slovakian countryside, as well as stop for dinner, before arriving in the small but pretty town of Levoča. The hotel is old fashioned but comfortable and right in the centre, with a really nice buffet breakfast. There was some down time in the evenings to explore the area. The walk up to the church overlooking the town is well worth it for the views and takes about 35 -40 mins from the hotel.
The hikes each of the 3 days were all a 20-25 min car journey from the hotel. They were all different and each one offered something unique. The technical sections like the ladders, step platforms and bridges were fun and made the hikes more interesting, but felt very safe. There were plenty of rest stops and time to take in the scenery. Patrick and Fero were great at answering questions and explaining the area to us.
Other activities included a group dinner followed by a visit to a thermal spa on the second night which was a good way to unwind.
Last but not least the people I met on the trip made it 10/10 experience with good chats and plenty of laughs.

Awesome trip
Had the most fantastic time, Met some fabulous people, loved the challenges and it was a challenge. Completed it though

Great trip
Our guides, Patrik and Fero were wonderful. Levoca is a beautiful town to be based and the hiking trails in Paradise Park with the Via Ferrata were amazing. The description of this trip as moderate is accurate with the added excitement of the ladders to give some additional adrenaline. Hotel a good base with all the treks within half an hour drive, good breakfast, clean rooms although a little warm. Definitely recommend this trip!

… Per person
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 124kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
The local tap water is safe to drink. Please bring along your own reusable water bottles (at least 1.5L) to fill up to avoid buying single-use plastic bottles.
You'll need to bring all your luggage with you, however on each day of hiking your main luggage can be left in the accommodation, or left with the transfer vehicle and driver depending on the day of the trip. You will only need to have a daypack for each day of hiking.
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
