Meet up with your host at Athens International Airport and head downtown to settle into your hotel in a lively part of Athens. Have some free time to wander around Athens and see the sights before meeting up with your fellow adventures to head to Athens' coastline on the Saronic Gulf. Hop in a kayak and paddle along the calm waters at sunset, along what is known as the Athenian Riviera – a side of Athens often missed by visitors. Afterwards, gather for a classic Greek feast at a local taverna and have a chat about the adventures ahead.
Day 2
To the Cyclades!

Head to the port in the morning and hop on a ferry to the magical island of Tinos, an enchanting combination of traditional Greek villages, rugged coastlines and sandy beaches lapped by the azure waters of the Aegean Sea. Settle into your hotel and then head out for a hike to explore the island, from Chora to the village of Ktikados, with its whitewashed houses nestled among rolling hills. Continue on to the coastal village of Kionia for a refreshing swim in the warm clear waters, before heading back to your base. Head out in search of dinner at a local taverna – your guide will be full of suggestions for the best spots.
Day 3
Hike across Tinos

After your first taste of hiking yesterday you'll set off for a longer trek across the island today, starting in the charming village of Falatados. As you traverse the island's interior – filled with history and natural beauty, flanked by blue ocean in the distance – you'll pass by the enigmatic ruins of Eksomvourgo and the distinctive rock formations of Volakas. After stopping in a village for a leisurely lunch, you'll then hike on to the finish line at the beautiful Agapi village, where you can enjoy a sundowner before heading back for a well-earned dinner and a good night's rest.
Day 4
Jump over to Naxos
Hiking4hrs · 4mi · 1247ft up · 951ft downHotelTwin shareBreakfast includedShow Day 4 detailHide detail
Say goodbye to Tinos as you head to your next Greek island, boarding the ferry to Naxos—the largest island in the Cyclades archipelago. Waste no time as you start to explore the island on foot, hiking to the imposing Kouros Statues—a group of remarkable ancient sculptures dating back to the 6th century BC, carved from marble and believed to represent gods and heroes from ancient times. The trail meanders on to the village of Chalki, where cobblestone streets wind through historic buildings adorned with colorful facades. In this quintessential Naxos village, you'll find quaint artisan shops and traditional tavernas, amid the scent of citrus trees. Grab drinks here before heading to take in the sunset at Portara, also known as the 'Great Door'—a massive marble doorway, part of the ancient temple of Apollo.
Day 5
Greek peak bagging, wine tasting and sunset swims
Hiking4-5hrs · 4mi · 1739ft up · 2461ft downHotelTwin shareBreakfast includedShow Day 5 detailHide detail
Get set for the biggest hike of the trip – to Mount Zas. This is the highest peak in the Cyclades, and one steeped in Greek mythology as the legendary birthplace of Zeus, King of the Gods. Ascend the mountain via a network of rugged trails, while hearing the ancient Greek tales that are woven into this part of Greece. Hitting the summit, you'll be rewarded with an unbroken 360-degree panorama over Naxos and the neighboring islands. Descend from the summit then hike on to the village of Filoti, nestled at the mountain's base and a beautiful place to wind up the hike and grab a cold drink. Your efforts are further rewarded as you head on to a local winery for a wine-tasting experience, delving into Naxos' unique wines which showcase the eco-conscious spirit of the island. Finish up an epic day by swimming in the inviting waters at Agios Prokopios beach, an idyllic stretch of coastline renowned for its soft, golden sands.
Day 6
Koufonisia boat tour
HotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 6 detailHide detail
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before heading to the Agia Anna pier where you'll hop on a traditional wooden boat bound for the Koufonisia Islands. These two tiny, tranquil, hidden gems are nestled within the Small Cyclades, far from the hustle of the larger islands in the chain. Settle in on deck for a two-hour cruise to Kato Koufonissi, where you'll anchor in exotic waters that wouldn't look out of place in the Caribbean. Dive in for a swim, while the crew lay out a Greek BBQ lunch for you to enjoy on board. Sail on for another 20 minutes to Ano Koufonissi, where you'll get back on dry land to explore the coastline, beaches, and quaint village on foot – maybe grab an ice-cold frappe at a local café while absorbing views of the Aegean Sea. Later in the afternoon, you'll sail on to the Rina Cave – a unique spot accessible only by boat, where you can swim and snorkel directly from the boat into the cave, or brave a cliff dive. Set sail back to Naxos as the sun sets, in time to dive into a taverna for dinner after a memorable day.
Day 7
Back to Athens
Hiking3hrs · 4mi · 328ft up · 328ft downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and dinner includedShow Day 7 detailHide detail
Enjoy the last of your time on Naxos over breakfast this morning, before heading to the port to board the ferry back to Athens. Arriving mid-afternoon, you'll head back to your hotel and later, head out with your guide to explore Athens on foot. No trip to the city is complete without a hike around cobbled streets and rocky outcrop in the historic center – bask in views of the Acropolis, the ancient Greek citadel, as you walk. Settle into one of your host's favorite tavernas in the evening, for a farewell dinner to toast an incredible week of Greek island gallivanting.

What's not included
Our trips do not include flights, trains or other travel to the start point and back from the end point.
Tips are not included in the trip cost. These are entirely at your discretion but there is an expectation to tip for good service. Your guide will help with advice, however we suggest the below as a guideline per person:
- €5 per day
Of course, you are free to tip more or less, and the amount should be reflective of your perception of service and quality – a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service.
You know your own spending habits best, so please budget an appropriate amount for things like optional meals and drinks, shopping, optional activities, and laundry.
Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures, and you'll need to provide your policy details before departure. Your insurance should offer adequate cover for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment, and the specific activities involved in your adventure. We also recommend ensuring your policy includes cancellation and curtailment cover, in case you're unable to join your trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness.
Standard travel insurance may not cover all the activities included in your adventure, so it's essential to check the details carefully. There are adventure-specific providers that many travelers have used in the past, such as True Traveller (opens in new tab) (for those based in the UK or Europe), or Rise + Shield (opens in new tab), both of which offer cover for a wide range of adventurous activities.
Please make sure your chosen policy meets your individual needs and covers all aspects of your trip.
Visa requirements often change, and you are responsible for obtaining any required visas for this trip. Please check with your nearest embassy or consulate for up-to-date advice.

FAQs
Can my dietary requirements be accommodated on this adventure?
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive, and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location, and lodging, and in some places, options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully before your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.
Once you have booked your trip, please fill out your passenger information form ASAP with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.
BACKGROUND
Greek food has been shaped by centuries of home cooking, Orthodox fasting traditions, and a climate that favors olives, vegetables, and legumes. Long stretches without meat or dairy have led to a brilliant variety of plant-based dishes, many of which are still everyday staples. Meals tend to be simple, seasonal, and centered around olive oil, with pulses, grains, and vegetables doing the heavy lifting. Meals are often eaten in the traditional Greek way, ordering a selection of dishes that are shared between the group. It’s a great destination for vegetarians, vegans, and the lactose-free. If you're gluten-free or have more specific allergies, you'll still find options but just be ready to explain your needs clearly, especially in smaller or more remote tavernas (your guide will help you with this).
SPECIAL DIETS
Vegetarian
-Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Greek cuisine offers a wide range of excellent vegetarian options such as Greek salad, fava (yellow split pea purée), dolmades (vine leaves stuffed with rice and herbs), spanakopita (spinach pie), gemista (stuffed peppers and tomatoes), gigantes (baked giant beans), grilled vegetables, and a variety of mezze.
Vegan
-Vegan diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Vegan-friendly dishes may include lentil soup (fakes), gigantes beans, briam (roasted mixed vegetables), okra in tomato sauce, stuffed vine leaves, horta (boiled wild greens), salads, and many vegetable-based mezze prepared with olive oil and herbs.
Kosher
-Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are rare and usually cannot be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
Halal
-Certified Halal supply varies by location and is often not possible. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
INTOLERANCES
Gluten-Free (for Celiac, please see Allergies section below)
-Gluten-Free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. However, options will be more limited than for those without dietary requirements. While many Greek dishes are naturally gluten-free (such as grilled meats, fish, salads, vegetables, and legumes), bread and pastry are common at meals, and awareness of cross-contamination can vary. While your local hosts will do their best, it’s worth knowing that gluten-free specialist supplies are generally only available in Athens. In more remote areas, it's not possible to source specialist products, so meals will be based on naturally gluten-free dishes rather than substitutes. We recommend bringing some of your own snacks or supplements, especially when traveling in more rural regions.
Lactose-Free
-Lactose-Free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. While dairy (particularly feta and yogurt) features prominently in Greek cuisine, many traditional dishes are naturally lactose-free or can be prepared without dairy, including grilled meats or fish, vegetable stews, legumes, salads, rice dishes, and mezze based on olive oil, lemon, and herbs rather than cheese or yogurt. Nonetheless, we recommend bringing some of your own snacks or supplements, especially when traveling in more rural regions.
ALLERGIES
Your host has confirmed that they are able to accommodate mild allergies to the 14 allergens identified by the UK Food Standards Agency, where these are disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy, please get in touch with our CX team before booking to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip. This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip, and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority. Please note that when traveling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods, and labeling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. While your guide will help
What should I do about drinking water?
The drinking water in Greece is perfectly safe, so you'll be able to fill up at the hotels and at refill points during your days out. Make sure to bring a reusable water bottle with you.
Can I store my extra luggage somewhere?
You can leave excess luggage in Athens at the start of this trip and pick it up when returning to Athens on Day 7; but please discuss this with your host in advance.
Can I extend my time in Greece?
Yes, absolutely! Most of the departure dates for this trip are scheduled to coincide with our Hike, Kayak and Raft Greece's Wild North adventure, so before visiting the islands, you can also explore Greece's mountains—all in one vacation!
What type of kayaks are used?
You'll be paddling in two-person sit-in-kayaks.
What are the size/weight limits of the kayaks?
The kayaks used on this trip have a maximum combined weight capacity of 550 lbs. If you weigh more than 265 lbs or are over 6 ft tall, please check with us before reserving this trip as we'll need to ensure that the kayaks and equipment provided are suitable for your comfort and safety.
How many guides and support crew will there be on my trip?
You'll have one guide throughout the trip leading the tour, and you'll also have a captain and crew on the boat trip to Koufonisia.
What happens if the boat trip can't proceed?
Very occasionally, due to high winds, the boat trip on Day 6 cannot operate. In this scenario, your host will take you to Agios Prokopios Beach; a sunbather's paradise and a snorkeler's dream. Here you will have the opportunity to have a go at SCUBA diving, or alternatively just pop on a snorkeling mask and dive into the crystal-clear waters to discover a vibrant underwater world. Explore colorful coral reefs, swim among playful fish, and marvel at the unique rock formations, and afterward relax on the soft, sandy shores.
Can I book on my own?
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Who is running the trip?
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers review the practical information available on the UK Government’s FCDO website, where you can find up-to-date advice by searching for your destination(s).
If you are based in the United States, you can also check the latest travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State.
For customers joining from other international locations, we recommend checking the official travel advice issued by your country of residence, as guidance may vary.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates daily, so prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
Why are your adventures only for adults?
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
Who else will be on my trip?
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips typically consist of a mix of solo travelers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves, and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.
Don't just take our word for it:
- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends

What's the weather like?
The Cyclades Islands are known for their warm and sunny weather. We run this trip in May, June, late August and September: the best times to visit this part of Greece with fewer crowds and pleasant temperatures. The average temperatures during these months are typically in the mid- to high-70s °F during the day and in the low- to mid-60s °F at night. The months of July and August are more crowded and the temperatures can reach uncomfortable highs, so we don't currently offer trips in the Cyclades during these months.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 190kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
