Day 1
Welcome to Salt Lake City
HotelTwin shareDinner includedShow Day 1 detailHide detail
Arrive in Salt Lake City, Utah’s capital and the ‘crossroads of the West,’ framed by the peaks of the Wasatch Mountains. Hop on the included shuttle to your hotel downtown and settle into your plush base for the first night of the trip. This evening, meet your host and fellow travelers for a welcome dinner and trip briefing, where you’ll run through the plan for the days ahead and get a feel for the adventure to come.
Day 2
Explore Kolob Canyon en route to Zion Mountain Ranch

Tuck into breakfast at the hotel before hitting the road and heading south into Utah’s red rock heartland, leaving the Wasatch Mountains behind. The scenery shifts from open valleys to towering red cliffs as you enter Kolob Canyon, a quieter and less-traveled section of Zion National Park. Tackle your first hike of the trip here on the Timber Creek Overlook Trail, a short circular route that delivers sweeping views of the canyon. Back on the road, continue to Zion Mountain Ranch, your base for the trip. Set high above the canyonlands, this remote retreat has a homely feel, with bison grazing on the plains right outside. Settle into your cabin, watch the sunset from your porch if you fancy it, then gather for dinner at the ranch’s restaurant, Cordwood. The restaurant follows a ‘ranch-to-table’ approach, creating dishes using ingredients that are in season at the time. Anything not grown or produced on the ranch is sourced with sustainability in mind.

Today is all about full immersion in the iconic landscapes of Zion National Park - one of America’s true bucket-list destinations. After breakfast at the ranch, you’ll lace up your boots to hike a series of classic, interconnected trails leading past lush pools, hanging gardens and steadily rising viewpoints high above the canyon floor. The Emerald Pools Trail connects to the Kayenta Trail, guiding you all the way to Scout Lookout – one of Zion’s pinnacle moments, with panoramic views across the park. After a picnic lunch, you’ll trade hiking boots for pedals to experience Zion Canyon by e-bike. Riding along the scenic canyon road, you’ll glide beneath towering cliffs, stopping at viewpoints and trailheads along the way to take it all in. After a full day soaking up Zion, you’ll freshen up back at the ranch before heading to nearby Springdale, where you’ll choose from a selection of excellent local restaurants, armed with insider tips from your guide.
Day 4
Bryce Canyon’s Natural Amphitheater
Hiking4-5hrs · 6mi · 984ft up · 984ft downRanchTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 4 detailHide detail
With Zion firmly checked off your bucket list, it’s time to drive an hour to southern Utah’s other standout – Bryce Canyon National Park. This sprawling reserve is known for its crimson-colored hoodoos: tall, otherworldly, spire-shaped rock formations. Today you’ll hit some of Bryce’s best-known trails, linking the Peekaboo Loop, Navajo Loop, and Queens Garden. From the rim, you’ll descend into the heart of the amphitheater, weaving through a maze of spectacular orange hoodoos. Walking among these formations offers ever-changing perspectives, as narrow passages open onto sweeping viewpoints across the park. An epic day exploring Bryce Canyon ends back at Zion Mountain Ranch in the late afternoon. Settle in for a relaxed evening and a chance to recharge after two back-to-back adventure-filled days.
Day 5
Road trip through the Mojave Desert to Las Vegas

Enjoy a final breakfast at Zion Mountain Ranch, basking in the stillness of the desert morning and those wide-open views one last time. After three nights in this remote high-desert retreat, it’s time to say goodbye to your base – and the roaming bison that have become part of the backdrop. Then hit the road, heading southwest from Utah into Nevada as the landscape opens into the vast Mojave Desert. The road trip is part of the adventure, as dramatic desert basins and distant mountain ranges roll past your window. Stop at Valley of Fire State Park, home to fiery red Aztec sandstone, sculpted into surreal, swirling shapes. You’ll stretch your legs on the White Domes Trail, a short but striking loop through layered rock, a narrow slot canyon and open desert. Continue along the sandy Mouses Tank Trail, winding between carved rock walls to natural water basins once used by Native Americans. After your desert explorations, carry on to Las Vegas, arriving in the afternoon to check into your hotel. The bright lights and buzzing energy of the city feel a world away from the quiet canyons of the past few days. Head out together for a final dinner and make the most of your last night.

-
It is customary in the United States to tip service workers such as taxi drivers and waiters around 15–20%, depending on the quality of service you receive. A good rule of thumb when visiting bars is to tip $1 per drink.
-
Tipping is also considered a customary part of your adventure, as a way of showing your gratitude to your guide. Of course, the amount you choose to tip is entirely at your discretion and should reflect the level of service you feel you received during the trip. As a guideline, we suggest budgeting $10–15 (USD) per day. You are welcome to tip more if you feel your guide did an outstanding job.
-
Tipping culture in the US can feel a little intimidating if you do not have previous experience of traveling or living there; however, your host will be happy to guide you through the process whenever it comes up during the trip.
You know your own spending habits best, so please budget an appropriate amount for things like optional food and drinks, shopping and laundry.
-
Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures, and you'll need to provide your policy details before departure. Your insurance should offer adequate coverage for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and gear, and the specific activities involved in your adventure. We also recommend ensuring your policy includes cancellation and curtailment coverage, in case you're unable to join your trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness.
-
Standard travel insurance may not cover all the activities included in your adventure, so it's essential to check the details carefully. There are adventure-specific providers that many travelers have used in the past, such as True Traveller (opens in new tab) (for those based in the UK or Europe), or Rise + Shield (opens in new tab), both of which offer coverage for a wide range of adventurous activities.
-
Please make sure your chosen policy meets your individual needs and covers all aspects of your trip.
Visa requirements often change, and you are responsible for obtaining any required visas for this trip. Please check with your nearest embassy or consulate for up-to-date advice.

FAQs
What if things don't go as planned?
The weather in Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks can be unpredictable, with rain, wind, and extreme temperatures possible at any time of year. The best approach is to come prepared for all conditions, with layers of clothing, sunscreen, and waterproofs.
Your host will monitor weather conditions throughout the trip and may suggest alternative, safer hiking routes or activities should conditions deteriorate.
How many guides and support crew will there be on my trip?
Groups of up to six people will be accompanied by one guide, while groups of seven or more will have two guides.
Can I leave my excess baggage somewhere?
As this adventure starts in Salt Lake City and ends nearly 435 miles away in Las Vegas, there is no option to store your luggage at the start of the trip. Your luggage will be transferred for you throughout the trip and safely stored in the group vehicle.
What do I do about drinking water?
Tap water in the United States is safe to drink. There will be refill points at each of the lodgings that you'll stay at, so make sure to bring a water bottle or two to carry enough water on the hikes and bike rides.
Can my dietary requirements be accommodated on this adventure?
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive, and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location, and lodging, and in some places, they may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you are fully informed about what may be possible on your trip, depending on your individual requirements. Please read this carefully before traveling to ensure you are adequately prepared for the situation on the ground.
Once you have booked your trip, please complete your passenger information form as soon as possible with details of any dietary requirements. After submission, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Providing this information early allows them to plan accordingly and deliver the best possible experience. Please also remind your guide of your dietary requirements upon arrival, as discussing them in person helps ensure clarity around individual preferences and limitations from the outset.
BACKGROUND
Food in the US is hugely varied, reflecting the country’s multicultural heritage, diverse geography, and regional food traditions. Vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, and gluten-free options are widely understood and commonly available.
Food labeling is comprehensive, and awareness of common allergens is high. However, options may be more limited in rural or remote areas, and levels of understanding can vary between individual providers. Breakfasts on this trip are typically continental-style at hotels or simple when camping. Packed lunches and group dinners are prepared by your guides, with dietary needs accommodated where disclosed in advance. Your local hosts will do their best to provide a safe and enjoyable food experience throughout the trip.
SPECIAL DIETS
Vegetarian Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is informed in advance.
Vegan Vegan diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is informed in advance.
Kosher Fully certified kosher kitchens and supervision are rare and cannot usually be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Vegetarian or vegan options are often the most reliable alternative, if suitable. Please refer to the sections above.
Halal Certified halal supply varies by location and may not always be possible. Vegetarian or vegan options are often the most reliable alternative, if suitable. Please refer to the sections above.
INTOLERANCES
Gluten-Free (for celiac disease, please see Allergies section below) Gluten-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is informed in advance.
Lactose-Free Lactose-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is informed in advance.
ALLERGIES
Our host has confirmed that mild allergies to the 14 allergens identified by the UK Food Standards Agency can be accommodated where disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy, please contact our CX team prior to booking to discuss whether your requirements can be safely accommodated on this trip.
This allows us to consider the severity of your allergy, the food provision available, and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority.
Please note that when traveling overseas, local ingredients, preparation methods, and labeling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. Allergies may also result in more limited or repetitive food options in some locations. While your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, guests remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.
What do I need to know about e-bikes?
Your e-bike will assist with about 25% of the effort on an average ride, meaning you'll provide about 75% of the effort. There will be moments when you'll need to switch to Boost mode for short bursts of power, especially on challenging terrain or steep sections. However, most of your ride will be in Eco and Trail modes, with Eco mode often being your go-to on climbs to conserve battery life throughout the day. This balance ensures a smooth, enjoyable ride while still giving you the thrill of exploration on two wheels.
In terms of speed, the power assistance on e-bikes is typically capped at around 16 mph. If you want to go faster, you'll need to pedal harder! You can adjust the power levels to match your pace and terrain. Your cycling guide will brief you on how to use the different modes to optimize your ride and make the battery last:
Eco Mode: Low power for energy efficiency, giving you longer battery life on flat terrain.
Auto Mode: Automatically adjusts the power based on terrain and your pedaling effort for a more balanced ride.
Sport Mode: Provides mid-range power, ideal for moderate hills and faster cruising.
Turbo Mode: Delivers maximum power, perfect for steep hills or when you want to ride fast.
When it comes to battery power, the e-bike batteries are typically charged overnight, usually at your lodging. There will be a couple of spare batteries in the support vehicle just in case. However, if you manage your battery usage throughout the day (for example, by avoiding using turbo mode all the time), you’ll find that the battery lasts long enough for most rides without any issues.
Please check that e-biking is covered under your travel insurance. The e-bikes are pedal-assist and comply with UK/EU regulations on power limits (unless stated otherwise for specific destinations).
Can I book on my own?
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Who is running the trip?
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers review the practical information available on the UK Government’s FCDO website, where you can find up-to-date advice by searching for your destination(s).
If you are based in the United States, you can also check the latest travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State.
For customers joining from other international locations, we recommend checking the official travel advice issued by your country of residence, as guidance may vary.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates daily, so prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
Why are your adventures only for adults?
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
Who else will be on my trip?
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.

Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves, and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.

- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends

What's the weather like?
The American Southwest is known for its dry climate, big skies, and dramatic temperature swings between day and night. On this trip, you can expect mostly sunny conditions with low humidity, making it ideal for hiking and e-biking—particularly during the shoulder season months.
Departures from late August through September are typically warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from around 80–95°F (27–35°C). Early starts and shaded canyon sections help manage the heat, while evenings are noticeably cooler. As the season moves into late September and early October, temperatures become milder, averaging 65–80°F (18–27°C) during the day, with cool nights dropping to around 40–55°F (4–13°C), perfect conditions for active days outdoors.
Occasional short-lived thunderstorms can occur in late summer, particularly in Zion National Park. These usually pass quickly, and your guide will adapt plans if needed to ensure safety and comfort. Overall, conditions are excellent for exploring Utah’s national parks, with clear skies, striking light, and comfortable hiking temperatures for much of the season.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 173kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
