Day 1
Welcome to the Amalfi Coast!
Driving1.5hrsHotelTwin shareDinner includedShow Day 1 detailHide detail
Meet your driver at Naples airport for a comfortable private transfer to Maiori. This charming seaside town has the longest beach on the Amalfi Coast, a lively seafront promenade and a medieval castle perched on the hill above – with far fewer crowds than its famous neighbors of Amalfi and Positano. Check in, settle into the hotel and take a stroll to get your bearings before you meet your guide for a welcome briefing. Gather with your group in the evening for a welcome dinner together, the perfect start to the week ahead.
Day 2
Hike the Path of the Lemons to Ravello and Amalfi
Hiking4hrs · 5mi · 1312ft up · 1312ft downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 2 detailHide detail
After breakfast, head out from the hotel and follow the Sentiero dei Limoni (Path of the Lemons), a historic mule track winding through fragrant lemon groves above the coast to the neighboring village of Minori. Here, visit a traditional lemon grove for a guided tasting of local products, then stop at a local liquor factory to discover the secrets behind limoncello, the iconic Amalfi digestif. From Minori, the path climbs to hilltop Ravello – one of the most beautiful towns on the coast, where you have some free time to explore. Next, descend through the picturesque village of Atrani to reach Amalfi, where there is more time to soak up the atmosphere of the historic center before a short ferry ride or transfer back to Maiori. Tonight is spent at leisure, so you are free to explore Maiori’s restaurants and eateries at your own pace.
Day 3
Above the clouds to Monte Avvocata
Hiking6hrs · 7mi · 2625ft up · 2789ft downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 3 detailHide detail
Today begins with an early start for the most demanding day of the trip. Transfer to the Badia di Cava de' Tirreni for a visit to the beautiful Benedictine Abbey, before setting off on a famous pilgrim route through golden chestnut woods and panoramic ridgeline paths to the Santuario dell'Avvocata, perched at almost 3,281ft above sea level. One of the most spectacular viewpoints on the entire coast, yet unknown to most visitors, the sanctuary feels like a well-kept secret – the sweeping views over the Gulf of Salerno are yours to savor. In the afternoon, descend via ancient mule tracks all the way back down to Maiori, and celebrate your achievement with a well-earned dip in the sea.
Day 4
Island trails & la dolce vita on Capri
Hiking3hrs · 4mi · 328ft up · 328ft downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 4 detailHide detail
After yesterday's demanding climb, today is a welcome change of pace. You'll be driven to Amalfi to board the ferry to Capri, arriving at one of Italy's most iconic islands. A local bus takes you to the Faro di Anacapri, the starting point of the Sentiero dei Fortini – a panoramic coastal path linking a series of ancient Aragonese watchtowers above brilliant blue water. Easy underfoot and utterly spectacular, the trail takes around two hours at a relaxed pace. The afternoon is yours to explore Capri and Anacapri at your leisure: perhaps ride the Monte Solaro chairlift for breathtaking views, visit the Villa San Michele, peek into the famous Blue Grotto or simply find a shaded terrace and watch the world go by. Meet your guide at an agreed time for the ferry back to the mainland, then you'll be transferred to Maiori.
Day 5
Waterfalls, ruins & lunch in Valle delle Ferriere
Hiking3hrs · 5mi · 820ft up · 656ft downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 5 detailHide detail
After breakfast, transfer to Pontone to descend on foot into the Valle delle Ferriere, the Amalfi Coast's hidden nature reserve. This lush, cool gorge shelters ancient fern species, a beautiful waterfall, and the atmospheric ruins of medieval paper mills slowly being reclaimed by nature. Arrive at Agriturismo Fore Porta, an organic family farm nestled in the heart of the valley, for a leisurely lunch of traditional recipes made with fresh ingredients straight from the garden. Next, continue into Amalfi for a guided tour of the Museo della Carta, a living 13th-century paper mill where you can make your own sheet of traditional Amalfi paper, before some free time in the town's historic center. You'll be transferred back to Maiori where you can relax at the local beach or enjoy a sunset swim.
Day 6
The legendary Path of the Gods

The week's grand finale! After breakfast, transfer to Agerola and set off on the Sentiero degli Dei (the 'Path of the Gods') – one of Italy's most celebrated hiking trails, traversing a dramatic ridge high above the coastline with sweeping views stretching from Capri to the Lattari Mountains. At the midpoint, stop at shepherd Antonio's farmstead for a memorable lunch of local cheeses, cured meats and wine. The path continues to Nocelle, from where you can choose to descend to Positano via the famous 1,000-step staircase or take the local bus down. Enjoy some free time in one of the Amalfi Coast's most beautiful towns before the ferry back to Maiori, where the week ends as it began: together, over a celebratory farewell dinner.

What's not included
Our trips do not include flights, trains or other travel to the start point and back from the end point.
A city tax of €3 per night needs to be paid directly to the hotel by each guest, before the end of your stay (so €18 in total for this trip).
Four dinners are not included in the trip price, giving you the flexibility to explore local cuisine and allowing you to dine at your own pace. From simple local eateries and bakeries, to more substantial restaurant meals, your guide will always be able to recommend good options in Maiori.
We recommend budgeting around €20-40 per meal, depending on your choices.
Tips are not included in the trip cost. These are entirely at your discretion, but there is an expectation to tip for good service. Your host can help with advice, however we suggest the below as a guideline:
- $40-50 per person for the tour leader
- $15 per person for the drivers
Of course, you are free to tip more or less, and the amount should be reflective of your perception of service and quality – a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service.
Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures, and you'll need to provide your policy details before departure. Your insurance should offer adequate coverage for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and gear, and the specific activities involved in your adventure. We also recommend ensuring your policy includes cancellation and curtailment coverage, in case you're unable to join your trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness.
Standard travel insurance may not cover all the activities included in your adventure, so it's essential to check the details carefully. There are adventure-specific providers that many travelers have used in the past, such as True Traveller (opens in new tab) (for those based in the UK or Europe), or Rise + Shield (opens in new tab), both of which offer coverage for a wide range of adventurous activities.
Please make sure your chosen policy meets your individual needs and covers all aspects of your trip.
Visa requirements often change, and you are responsible for obtaining any required visas for this trip. Please check with your nearest embassy or consulate for up-to-date advice.
You know your own spending habits best, so please budget an appropriate amount for things like optional meals and drinks, shopping, optional activities, and laundry.

FAQs
What does a typical day look like?
Days are structured to make the most of the trails and the places along them, with logistics kept as simple as possible. Transfers to and from the trailheads are short (usually about 20 minutes and no more than 45 minutes), and often one-way only, with some days starting or finishing right at the hotel. Where possible, the journeys from and to Maiori are by ferry rather than road, which is not only more scenic but helps avoid the notoriously congested coastal roads. Your coastal base also means the trails are generally more accessible than on trips based further inland.
A couple of days begin earlier than others, partly to make the most of the cooler morning temperatures before the heat builds, and partly to give more time at the destinations. On the Capri day, for example, an early ferry crossing means you'll have a full afternoon free to explore the island at your leisure. Early starts are always worthwhile, and the itinerary is designed so the pace on the trail never feels too rushed. Typically, you can expect to be out from after breakfast until mid or late afternoon, leaving evenings free to spend as you wish – whether that's over dinner with the group following your guide's recommendations, relaxing on the beach or wandering the lively streets of Maiori.
Is there time to explore the towns?
Absolutely! Although this is primarily a hiking adventure, the itinerary includes some free time (typically 1-2 hours) in some of the coast's most beautiful places: wandering the lanes of Ravello, exploring Amalfi's historic center, soaking up the atmosphere in Positano, and discovering Capri at your own pace. Other stops along the way (tastings at a lemon grove, a farm lunch, a limoncello-making session) are as much a part of the experience as the trails themselves.
Does my money stay in the Amalfi Coast?
Yes, and that matters to us. Every element of this trip has been designed to keep your spend within the local economy of the Amalfi Coast, from where you sleep to who walks beside you on the trail. Your booking directly supports:
- A local host: your trip is run by an independent operator founded and led by locals who know this coastline intimately — ensuring your spend supports Italian businesses rather than an overseas tour company.
- Local guides: every day on trail is led by a local guide with deep knowledge of the paths, history and communities of the Amalfi Coast that no guidebook can replicate.
- Local restaurants and farms: when you sit down to eat, you eat local. The farm lunch on the Valle delle Ferriere, the shepherd's table on the Path of the Gods, and the welcome and farewell dinners are all independently run Campanian establishments — not chains, not franchises.
- Local producers: from the lemon grove at Minori to the Limoncello distillery, the paper mill at Amalfi and the shepherd's farmstead above Positano, the experiences woven into this itinerary put money directly into the hands of the artisans and producers keeping these traditions alive.
- Responsible tourism: the Amalfi Coast is one of Italy's most visited stretches of coastline, and the pressure of mass tourism is real. This trip doesn't pretend to avoid the iconic spots - the Path of the Gods and Capri are iconic for good reason - but it experiences them differently: on foot, in a small group, at a pace that's closer to how people actually live here than how most visitors pass through.
Will the trails be crowded?
The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy's most visited regions, but the trails on this itinerary are far less frequented than the main tourist hotspots like Amalfi and Positano, where you'll only spend a few hours after the hikes. The Sentiero dei Fortini on Capri and the Valle delle Ferriere see relatively few visitors, and the Avvocata Sanctuary route is largely unknown to tourists. The Path of the Gods is the busiest trail of the week, particularly on weekends, but the hike is usually scheduled on Fridays and the trip runs in shoulder season (April to June and September to October) when crowds are significantly lower than in peak summer.
Capri can get extremely busy in summer, however the Sentiero dei Fortini is also one of the island's quieter corners – well away from the Piazzetta and the main tourist circuit. The free afternoon here gives you the flexibility to find your own pace and avoid the busiest spots if you wish.
What do I do about drinking water?
The local tap water is safe to drink. Please bring along your own reusable water bottle to fill up at the hotel and public fountains to avoid buying single-use plastic bottles.

What about bad weather?
The Amalfi Coast can experience changeable weather, particularly in spring and early fall. Your guide will always have a plan B and will adapt the day's route accordingly. In the event of heavy rain, the itinerary may need to be adjusted or the order of the hikes changed, especially if local ferries are suspended, though that's uncommon.
Can my dietary requirements be catered for on this adventure?
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location and accommodation, and in some places options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully prior to your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.
Once you have booked on your trip, please fill out your passenger information form asap with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.
BACKGROUND
Amalfi Coast cuisine is rooted in the region's coastal geography, shaped by the Tyrrhenian Sea and the terraced hillsides that rise sharply behind it, which have long supported fishing, lemon growing and small-scale farming as the foundations of everyday eating. Meals are generous and intensely flavoured, built around fresh seafood, handmade pasta, San Marzano tomatoes, locally pressed olive oil and the region's prized sfusato amalfitano lemons — a ingredient that works its way into everything from pasta sauces to digestifs. Vegetarians will generally find more options here than in many other destinations, though anchovy-based condiments and seafood broths appear frequently as background flavour bases, including in dishes that might otherwise appear meat-free. Travellers with strict dietary requirements should plan ahead and communicate needs clearly, and guides will be well placed to help navigate menus and identify suitable options with local restaurants and hosts.
SPECIAL DIETS
Vegetarian Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is made aware in advance. Southern Italian cuisine offers a naturally generous range of vegetarian dishes — expect handmade pasta with tomato and herb sauces, grilled and roasted seasonal vegetables, wood-fired pizza, bruschetta, and classic Campanian staples like melanzane alla parmigiana and pasta e fagioli. Please note that some traditional sauces and broths may contain anchovy as a background flavour, so it is worth flagging this specifically when communicating your requirements. Meals are hearty and well-rounded, with protein coming from eggs, legumes and cheese.
Vegan Vegan diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is made aware in advance. While southern Italian cuisine is naturally rich in plant-based ingredients, dairy and eggs feature heavily in traditional cooking and many dishes are prepared with butter or parmesan as a matter of course. Dedicated vegan options can be prepared with advance notice, though boxed lunches in particular may be limited in variety and ingredients. We recommend bringing a supply of protein-rich snacks to supplement on longer hiking days.
Pescatarian Pescatarian diets are well suited to this trip. The Amalfi Coast has a proud fishing tradition and seafood features prominently across all meals — fresh catch, grilled fish, seafood pasta and regional specialities like scialatielli ai frutti di mare are widely available and form a central part of the local food culture.
Kosher Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are not available on this trip and cannot be guaranteed. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
Halal Certified Halal provision is not available on this trip. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
INTOLERANCES
Lactose Free Lactose-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is made aware in advance. While dairy is a prominent feature of Campanian cooking — particularly mozzarella, parmesan and butter-based sauces — many dishes can be adapted on request, and naturally dairy-free options such as grilled fish, roasted vegetables and tomato-based pastas are widely available.
Gluten Free Gluten-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is made aware in advance. Naturally gluten-free dishes — grilled seafood, roasted vegetables, potatoes, rice and polenta — can be prepared, though pasta is central to the local food culture and alternatives may be limited in smaller restaurants. We recommend bringing your own snacks to supplement on longer days.
ALLERGIES Our host has confirmed that provision for mild allergies can be accommodated on this trip, with pharmacies readily available locally should you need antihistamines or similar medication. However, reliable provision for severe allergies cannot be guaranteed. Please contact our Customer Experience team before booking to discuss your requirements. Meals on this trip are often prepared by small family-run restaurants and local trattorias — an important part of the cultural experience, but one that means ingredient control and preparation standards can be more variable than you might expect at home. Certain allergies, particularly severe or life-threatening ones, can be difficult to accommodate fully due to shared cooking environments and the widespread use of common allergens — including gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts and shellfish — across traditional Campanian recipes. Your guide will help communicate your requirements wherever possible, but you remain responsible for managing your own allergies during the trip. If you carry an EpiPen or similar emergency medication, please make your guide aware at the start of the tour.

What's the weather like?
The Amalfi Coast usually enjoys warm, sunny weather from April through October, with daytime temperatures ranging from 64–86°F in spring and fall and peaking higher in midsummer. The trip runs in April, May, June, September, and October – the sweet spot for hiking, when conditions are ideal and the coast is at its most beautiful before or after the summer rush. Rain is possible at any time of year, but generally brief, and you can expect long sunny days for the most part.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 790kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
