Key Information
Day 1
Arrive in Kathmandu

After checking in you'll have a pre-departure meeting with your guides to run through the final plans and arrangements for the trek. You'll finish the day with a group dinner to get to know your team for the next few weeks.
Day 2
Journey to Manthali

Driving
This morning, you'll hop on the bus and head to Ramechhap (Manthali) — the remote region where most Lukla flights now depart during peak trekking season.
After a long journey to Nepal, it’s crucial to rest and rehydrate before heading into the mountains. While many other itineraries rush you straight from your international flight into a midnight drive to Manthali, followed by a flight and same-day trek, we take a different approach. You’ll stay in safari tents at a glamping site near Ramechhap airport, giving your body a chance to reset before flying to Lukla and starting your trek tomorrow feeling fresh and ready.
(If your flight to Lukla is scheduled to depart from Kathmandu instead, you’ll enjoy an extra day in the city — time to explore at your own pace and pick up any last-minute gear.)
Day 3
Trek to Phakding

Hiking
Today starts with a short flight to Lukla Airport in the Everest region. After meeting the other crew members you'll start your trek, passing through the prosperous village of Lukla before reaching Phakding on the Dudh Kosi River. You'll spend the night in the village and should have time to visit some of the nearby monasteries.
Occasionally Lukla flights can be delayed or canceled - please see the FAQs for further info.
Day 4
Namche

Hiking
Start the day with a walk through beautiful pine forests and along the track to the Dudh Koshi River. One of the (many) bridges is the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge with a particularly epic viewpoint of the gleaming Mount Thamserku (21,712 ft). From here you'll continue through the village of Jorsale before a challenging uphill climb to Namche Bazaar, where you'll get your first glimpse of Everest.
Day 5
Acclimate and explore Namche (11,286 ft)

Today will be a rest day to acclimatize to the altitude, but rest assured, there’s no time to get bored! Instead, there’s the opportunity to hike to a nearby viewpoint and enjoy mammoth vistas of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse... we could go on. On the way back, you’ll walk around the Khumjung valley and have the chance to visit the Hillary School and Khunde Hospital, before heading back for the night.
Day 6
Namche to Tengboche

Hiking
Things get challenging as the trail forks northeast along a tributary valley and you approach the holy ground of Tengboche (12,664 ft). There you’ll be met by a monastery, yak pasture and the world’s highest sacred institution combined! Team this with more epic views of Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Everest and you'll find it's worth every puff.
Day 7
Tengboche to Dingboche

Hiking
Trek past the Gompa holding the famous Yeti scalp and pass summer yak pastures on the way to Dingboche, where you'll stay for the night. Most of the trekking in this area is comparatively gentle, although taking it easy is recommended due to the high altitude.
Day 8
Explore and acclimate at Dingboche

Today you'll have your second acclimatization day at Dingboche (14,469 ft), which is vital considering the high altitudes you're now reaching. Fear not, you can still get involved in some optional hikes to the nearby Nagajun Hill or Chukung Village, which both offer panoramic views of Ama Dablam and Makalu.
Day 9
Dingboche to Lobuche

Hiking
Climb at a leisurely pace and cross ice-covered torrents until you reach Lobuche (16,109 ft). Here, you’ll be met with stone houses that sit among the frozen wilderness. Only one more night until your goal.
Day 10
Everest Base Camp

Hiking
Ascend to Everest Base Camp (17,651 ft). Congratulations, you're in the company of legends. Take some time to reflect and enjoy it. Many a new profile picture has been taken here! Once you’ve taken in the views and given yourself a massive high-five, you'll continue back to Gorak Shep (17,598 ft) for the night before beginning the descent tomorrow.
Day 11
Climb Kala Patthar for Everest views at sunrise, descend to Pheriche

Hiking
The best time to see Everest and its neighboring peaks is at sunrise, so expect an early start before breakfast. If you're not too tired, consider the optional hike up Kala Patthar (18,000ft) — the highest point of the trip — for panoramic views of Everest. The round trip takes about three and a half hours, and you'll descend to Pheriche (13,900ft) for the night afterward. Bring a few light snacks if you're planning to take on the climb.
Day 12
Pheriche to Phortse

Hiking
You'll descend to Pangboche before a climb and descent lead you to Phortse (12,582ft), a traditional Sherpa village where you'll spend the night. Nearly every household here includes an Everest summiteer, and it's also home to the Khumbu Climbing Center, where both Nepali and international mountaineers come to train and sharpen their skills.
Day 13
Phortse to Monjo via Namche

Hiking
Today you'll hike down to Namche for lunch, then continue to Monjo — a Sherpa village often called the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park. It's tucked into a scenic valley, with towering peaks like Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse forming a dramatic backdrop.
Day 14
Monjo to Lukla

Hiking
Set off on the final descent to Lukla (9,383ft), taking your time to soak it all in — there's no rush today. You'll say your farewells to the local team at a village along the way, then continue to Lukla, where the end-of-trek celebrations kick off.
Day 15
Back to Kathmandu

Driving
Fly back to Ramechhap (Manthali) after your incredible mountain journey. You'll drive back to Kathmandu in time for some well-earned beers and a celebration dinner.
Day 16
Last day in Kathmandu

Enjoy a well-earned sleep-in and breakfast at your hotel, then spend your last day exploring the city before heading back to the airport and reality.

What is the food like?

Breakfast is usually either hot oatmeal, muesli, or Tibetan bread served with an omelet or boiled eggs. The menus in the teahouses are very similar at every stop and there will usually be a choice of traditional Nepalese dhal bhat (a mixed plate of lentils, rice, vegetables, and pickles - delicious and healthy), Nepalese dumplings (momos), mixed noodles, pasta, and even pizza. Although meat is available at some teahouses, we suggest you ask your guide for advice about consumption as it tends to depend on how far it has traveled as to whether it is a safe option.
Dairy-free, vegan, or vegetarian diets can be catered for while trekking although meals may get a bit repetitive - dhal bhat will likely be your go-to staple. Gluten-free/celiac diets are tricky to cater for on teahouse treks (beware that powdered soups and seasonings used often contain gluten, and cooking oil is commonly reused and may cause cross-contamination). Please explain your dietary requirements to your guide so that they can assist when ordering, and bringing along some extra food/snacks is advisable.
What is the accommodation like?

Kathmandu
You’ll stay in a centrally located tourist hotel in the heart of Thamel, close to the main shopping area and heritage locations.

Manthali
For your night in Manthali, you will stay in safari-style tents at the Freedom Resort Fixed Tent Camp. The permanent tents are comfortably set with wooden floors and you will share on a twin-basis with shared bathrooms. There is a swimming pool, restaurant and bar on site.

On the trek
Generally, most adventures to Nepal are in remote areas where the accommodation will be basic. On the trek you will stay in 'teahouses' – mountain lodges that tend to have a communal dining area and basic toilets.
The rooms are sorted by gender – however, if there is an odd number in the group they may occasionally be mixed. There’s no heating, so you'll need your warm sleeping bag. WiFi and hot showers are often available at a small cost. You can usually charge your cell phone up, again, you guessed it, for a cost. So remember to take an adapter.
Upgrades
For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room can be booked for the two nights in Kathmandu only, subject to availability. This option is not available in the teahouses. Please request this at the time of booking: see Optional Extras below for prices.
This trip has been rated as Challenging
Much of the trek is within the capabilities of people with good fitness who are keen trekkers. Still, it is important to note that trekking at altitudes above 10,000 ft is more demanding on the body than walking at low elevations. Some training beforehand will help and we advise doing at least one weekend of back-to-back days walking. The guide will set the pace and as with all altitude treks, the theme is ‘slowly slowly’ to help you adjust to the altitude.
What will I need to carry?
This trip includes one porter for every two trekkers. They will carry up to 44-55 lbs of gear so your overnight bags and spare clothes will be transported for you (maximum 26 lbs per person). You will only need to carry a ‘day pack’ with essentials in (extra layer, snacks, water, sunscreen, camera etc.
High altitude (over 14,765 ft): factors to consider
This trip reaches elevations above 14,765ft, where the risks associated with Altitude Sickness (AMS) are higher, and where more serious conditions like HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema) can occur.
Previous high-altitude experience doesn’t guarantee the same reaction every time, but it can be a helpful indicator. It gives you insight into how your body might respond, helps you recognize symptoms early, and prepares you mentally and physically for the demands of high-altitude trekking.
Your guide is trained to manage altitude risk by carefully managing the rate of ascent, monitoring group well-being, and taking action if anyone becomes unwell.
Before traveling, think about your own physical condition and consult a medical professional if you have concerns—especially if you have underlying health issues. If possible, arriving a day or two early at altitude is a great way to help your body adjust.
Your travel insurance must cover the maximum altitude reached on this trip and include emergency evacuation.
There are 3 different seasons for trekking in Nepal:
Winter (Dec-Feb): Despite being seen as ‘off-season’ this is often the best time to trek in Nepal. The nights can be very cold (down to minus 4°F) but the trails are quieter and the mountain views are often at their best due to the clear sunny skies.
Pre-Monsoon / Spring (March-May): Temperatures rise significantly in Spring and flowers are in full bloom in the lower lands. Although it can still drop below freezing at night, the daytime temperatures tend to sit between 50-59°F.
Post-Monsoon / Fall (Sept-Nov): This is the most popular time to trek in Nepal with sunny and mild days generally. It can get cold and windy at higher altitudes however skies are usually clear.
Of course, mountain weather is notoriously hard to predict and snow can be expected on any trip so come prepared.

Thin Air, Thick Memories
The Everest Base Camp trek was an incredible experience from start to finish. The scenery was beyond words, the journey was challenging and deeply rewarding, and what truly made it special was the team that supported us every step of the way. After this trek, mountains may never feel the same again. The experience leaves a quiet mark on you, almost spiritual in the way it humbles and reshapes perspective.
Kanchan was nothing short of amazing. He felt like a big brother on the trail. Deeply caring, knowledgeable, and always attentive to everyone’s needs, he struck the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth. His fun personality kept spirits high even on the toughest days.
BBC was a constant source of reassurance. Every time you called out to him, his cheerful “yes, please!” made you smile instantly. Strong, reliable, and unwavering, he was always there no matter the situation, giving you the confidence to keep moving forward.
Roshan brought a very pleasant and calming presence to the trek. Always supportive and kind, he made the long days feel easier simply by being there and encouraging everyone along the way.
And Benja, truly a mountain ninja. An incredible photographer, guitar player, cook, baker, and above all, a great friend. He knows the trek inside and out and was wonderful company on the trail. As a slow hiker, I especially appreciated the long conversations and relaxed pace, which made the journey even more meaningful.
Everest herself is a shy mountain. She does not reveal herself easily, and only to those who are patient and determined. When she finally does, it feels earned. This trek was unforgettable, and I cannot recommend this team enough. They turned an already spectacular adventure into something truly special.
Everest Base Camp Trek
I had an amazing experience on the Everest Base Camp trek, made even better by the incredible leadership throughout. Kanchan ran the trek exceptionally well, with outstanding organisation from start to finish. Everything felt smooth, well planned, and professionally managed, which allowed us to fully enjoy the journey.
A huge amount of praise goes to Rosan, who went above and beyond every single day. He was caring, very organised, and often led smaller groups so we could reach destinations faster and at our own pace, which made a big difference to the overall experience. We genuinely would not have made it up Kala Pattar without his encouragement and support. Rosan was incredibly friendly, approachable, and always willing to help, making everyone feel supported and motivated.
Both Kanchan and Rosan were fantastic, and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough for an Everest Base Camp trek.

Brilliant
Trip was amazing from the first day, very well organised and catered to individuals. Kanchan and his team were very professional but also very friendly and easy going with amazing knowledge of the area and the trek itself. Food was lovely and very cheap, every step of the way is accounted for by the team with changes being made easily based on personal circumstances. I felt very looked after the entire trip and felt comfortable asking the team anything knowing that they would try their best to accommodate. Aside from that, the views, scenery and locals are incredible, it really is like nothing else, a beautiful part of the world that I couldn’t recommend enough. Great value for money

Thank you to kanchan and his team.
I just want to come on here to thank Kanchan and his team. They made my trip special. I completed this over the Xmas period and these guys made sure to make it a trip I will never forget. They were always providing extra information and facts as we would walk; look after us when we were sick; facilitate any of our needs and Kanchan even took us rock climbing when we got back to Kathmandu ( on his day off ) . This was already a once in a lifetime time trip, but these guys made it even more remarkable. Thank you everyone 🙌
Amazing experience
A wonderful trip with fantastic guides. Well organised and coordinated with Kanchan leading us all safely to base camp, along with BBC, Roshan and Benja who were so supportive and helpful. The views are outstanding and the group was awesome- it’s not without challenges from the high altitude, cold temps at night (though we were really lucky with sun during the days) and long days of walking but I felt in safe hands the whole time. Big shout out to the amazing porters without whom the trip couldn’t have happened, they were incredible. Would highly recommend!

Recent trip to EBC - MBA - Freedom Adventures
Absolutely loved our Everest Base Camp trip with Much Better Adventures – the local company Freedom Adventures totally smashed it. From start to finish it was genuinely seamless and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The itinerary was spot on, the views were unreal every single day, and everything just ran so smoothly. Huge shoutout to Konchan and the assistant tour guides – they were brilliant (especially the mighty BBC). Super knowledgeable, supportive, and honestly just great fun to be around. They really made the trip what it was and kept the vibe positive the whole way. Felt well looked after the entire time and had an absolute blast. If you’re thinking about EBC, I can’t recommend this team enough 🙌🏔️
Once in a lifetime experience
Had the most amazing experience. Everything was organised from moment I arrived at the airport to being dropped off back at the airport again. Kanchan and his support guides were amazing!! Kept everything fun whilst having the skills to overcome any issues along the way. . could not have wished for a better team to lead us on this amazing adventure and felt supported and encouraged the whole way!! Also a shout out to the porters that made it possible carrying our bags everyday, always with a smile and encouraging us on!! Thank you so much for the memories that will last a lifetime!! 🙏🏼
Trek to Everest Base Camp
A great trip to Everest Base Camp. Everything was well organised, with knowledgeable and supportive local guides and hosts along the way. The scenery was absolutely stunning and made every day worthwhile.
Unforgettable Experience
The trip to Everest Base Camp can be quite challenging on the body, from the altitude and temperature changes, to the wear and tear of constant ascending and descending on the hikes. But our guides did an excellent job of pacing our trip so everyone made it up to EBC, feeling proud of ourselves for completing the arduous trek.
Holidays on the EBC Trek
I was so lucky to spend the 2025 hiking to Everest Base Camp with the incredible lead guide Kanchan from Freedom Adventures, his team of superhero assistant guides and porters, and 11 fellow hikers that I met on this trip. This was an adventure of a lifetime. Kanchan and his team took such good care of our entire group from day 1 to day of departure. They knew everything about the mountains, made sure we were always well fed and well hydrated, and attended to anyone who was feeling less than 100%. This was considered off season for trekking the EBC so the tea houses and the trail itself were not crowded; we had perfect weather, sunshine everyday, with mild days and cold nights, getting colder as we got higher. This was a challenging and unforgettable two weeks trek, and I could not have done it without the amazing team from Freedom Adventures and the 11 new friends I made.
Guides don't get any better than Rinji and Roshan
I recently had the incredible opportunity to trek to Everest Base Camp, and I can confidently say that it was an experience of a lifetime, largely thanks to our amazing lead guide, Rinji Furba Sherpa.
From the very beginning, Rinji’s communication was exemplary. He kept us well informed about plans, safety protocols, and shared his extensive knowledge of the Himalayas. While we all faced varying degrees of altitude sickness, Rinji’s meticulous care and accurate documentation ensured that we not only reached our goal but also enjoyed every moment of the journey.
His enthusiasm for the mountains is truly infectious, and I thoroughly enjoyed his company throughout the trek. Trusting Rinji as my guide was easy! His strength, knowledge, and determination shine through, especially considering he is an Everest summiter himself. It was an absolute privilege to be guided by someone with such remarkable accomplishments.
I also want to give a huge praise to Roshan Rai, our assistant guide. Despite his young age, he possesses insurmountable experience in the mountains and handled communication and care with impressive maturity. Having Roshan manage our orders and payments at each teahouse made mealtimes run smoothly, and he went above and beyond to ensure everyone was happy. With a mentor like Rinji, I have no doubt that Roshan will make an excellent lead guide very soon.
Also, our three porters - Buddha, Lama and Prabesh, were huge assets to our team! They ensured our bags reached each accommodation intact and on time. Whenever we had the chance to spend time with them, they were incredibly friendly and I enjoyed learning about their love for being Sherpas. I truly admire their unwavering strength and wish them all the best in their progression to become guides.
A special highlight of the trek was celebrating a big birthday during the journey. The whole team made a lovely effort to make the day memorable, with thoughtful little touches I will always cherish. Who knew a high altitude, subzero birthday could be so epic?
Overall, this trek was unforgettable, and the guidance from Rinji and Roshan made it all the more special. If you’re considering this trek, I wholeheartedly recommend going with them!
Everest base camp
First time using much better adventures, couldn’t recommend more, had such an amazing time. My guides Kevin and Benja were super friendly and very knowledgeable 10/10 will be booking again with MBA
Everest Base Camp 16-29/11/25
Great adventure in an incredible country, would thoroughly recommend. Itinerary is well planned and carried out by a strong and experienced team in our guides Kev, Benja, Iceman and the amazing porters always working hard behind the scenes. Was blessed with perfect conditions throughout and a great group of teammates. Trip of a lifetime, 10/10.

Everything I hoped for and more!
Having dreamt of trekking to Everest base camp for many years it's safe to say my expectations were high and this trip still managed to exceed them!
From start to finish our lead guide Birdhoj and assistant guides Uttar and Tenzing made us feel safe, relaxed and so well looked after. We also had an amazing team of porters who were always smiling - Buddha, Sajor, Ramesh, Balaram and Harka Raj we couldn't have done it without you.
The scenery on this trek was nothing short of incredible and something I will always remember. Can't wait to book my next adventure with MBA!

A trip of a lifetime!
Overall, the whole trip was incredible! The trek and views itself were spectacular, everyone in the group got on well, and our 3 guides (Birdhog, Tenzing, and Utter) were all fantastic. They were helpful, informative, and really good at helping the group feel relaxed by ensuring regular breaks, cracking jokes, and even showing us magic tricks!
Be prepared for basic accommodation facilities, with less available as you get closer to base camp, and to be faced with a similar food menu for every lunch and dinner… but if you can manage without a few home comforts, this is a trip of a lifetime!
Thank you MBA and Freedom Adventures!
Everest base camp trek
It couldn’t have gone any better. I am absolutely delighted. Birdhoj, Tenzing and Uttah did a phenomenal job. Hats off to them and a big thank you. Also our porters were fantastic:)

EBC in November 2025
Our EBC trek was a very successful journey first of all we were blessed with amazing weather conditions, sunny days and clear blue skies everyday, clean trials and not too overcrowded; second of all thanks to our great guides team Bir, Tashi and Utar, they made it so easy and comfortable for us , they were the ones making sure we eat properly, stay hydrated and looking after our wellbeing the entire time , they offered us their full support on and of the trails, it’s so important to have a team that you trust in such a long trip. The communication with MBA team was easy and reliable before the trek . For me the hardest parts were the cold nights in the teahouses and the lack of proper hygiene, but I had to accept it and move on quickly so I can focus on enjoying everything else the mountains had to offer . The days getting to Lukla and back are probably some of the most difficult since the drive can be up to 8h on non existent roads and the flight waiting time is quite long but it’s part of the package , you can’t expect smooth operations in such high altitudes. Even saying all that the Himalayas are the most special mountains I’ve experienced in my life and I’m already eager to return !

EBC October 2025
I recently completed the Everest Base Camp trek with Freedom Adventures, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Our Sherpa, Asman, was outstanding—knowledgeable, positive, and always ensuring we had a fantastic time. He made the trek enjoyable and memorable for both me and my friend Josh. The support, guidance, and expertise provided by Asman and the team made the challenging trek feel manageable and genuinely fun. I would wholeheartedly recommend Freedom Adventures to anyone considering this journey—an unforgettable adventure with top-notch guidance!
An incredible experience, great itinerary
An incredible experience, great itinerary and very professional and wonderful guides. Our guide leader Kushahari Phuyal and assistants guides Sebika Rai and Bhavisya jung Thapa went above and beyond to ensure we had the best time, were well looked after and were kept safe, especially during the snow storm. They were also so positive and very knowledgeable. It was also lovely to have a female assistant guide on the trip as well. Also want to thank our supporting staff who were also very friendly and kind Santa Bir Tamang, Panchaman Rai, Anmol Rai, Bahadur Tamang and Saikumar Tamang. 10/10 trip!
Amazing experience
I had the best time on this trip - especially a big thank you to our amazing guide Jay San. It was an incredible experience, and we felt well looked after throughout the adventure. Everything was well organised and thought through. Met some amazing people and saw some amazing things! Thank you

WHAT A TRIP TO EVEREST BASE CAMP!!!!
Where to start, I think first i need to thank the 4 boys for an absolutely amazing trip. Birdhoj was such an awesome guide full of so much knowledge, Nabin was also so great super funny and always helped us when needed. Couldnt of asked for a better duo taking us up to base camp!!!
And of course a huge thanks to our porters Narmani and Arpan, i admire their strength and we couldnt of done it without them!
The trek itself was absolutely amazing, seeing Everest from Kala Patthar was the highlight for me. It was tough, some days were easier than others, but overall was so rewarding and truly was the best trip ive ever done. I really have no complaints!
BOOK THAT TRIP!!!!!
Exceptional Everest Base Camp Trek
The trip was perfectly organised with breathtaking landscapes and excellent support from the guiding team despite some inevitable physical and weather related challenges. Our guide Jay San stood out as an exceptional guide – calm, organised, and encouraging. He managed the group with great care and ensured everyone reached Base Camp safely and with a smile. A truly memorable adventure.

Incredible trip with fantastic team
What an incredible adventure.
We couldn't have done it without our fantastic team, who were excellent from day 1. Our team leader Birdhoj kept us safe, supported, paced us excellently and always was on hand to answer our many questions about the route, region and everything in between. There was nothing that our assistant guide Nabin Rai couldn't do for us, from making us laugh constantly to filling up our waters and sorting our meals at each stop. We loved our card game evenings every night. Finally, our phenomenal supporting boys Normani Rai and Arpan Rai, without whom none of it would have been possible, and always had our bags in each of our rooms well before we arrived. They managed to keep all of our bags and belongings dry despite the constant rain we had early on. We were so glad we could have a finally meal in Lukla with the team to thank them for everything. I would thoroughly recommend all of them for future trips.
We were struck with pretty constant torrential days in the first few days, which did affect moral, but the team kept us boosted. Nabin kindly gave me his poncho to try keep me a tiny bit more dry, after it became apparent out ponchos from Namche were completely non functional against the torrential weather. Our trusted goretex gear that had previously always worked simply reached saturation point. Thankfully, we were then blessed with perfect weather for the rest of the trip and higher up, which made the first few challenging days all worth it.
The trek itself is not that hard, but the weather conditions and altitude definitely make it harder. We went from very wet to being incredibly hot getting to Lobuche and EBC with the incredibly powerful sun at altitude. Fortunately our group faired pretty well at altitude all things considered, with a couple of off days here or there amongst us and most people not feeling that great at Gorek Shep.
The tea houses were understandably fairly basic, but honestly better than expected for the most part. It was quite significantly more basic at Gorek Shep, but not as bad as some of the horror stories we heard going up. We spent minimal time in the tea house, doing a big EBC and sunset Kala Pattar day, and off early the next morning. I managed to have far more hot showers than expected (Phakding, Namche, Dingboche - at the fantastic Dingobche Inn warm coffee shop cabin -, and Pengboche, Namche and Lukla on the way down).
I kept warm each evening with the fantastic sleeping bag I rented from Freedom Adventures, and a hot water nalgene each night. I had packed a lot of snacks, but barely used them as the portion sizes they give you in the tea houses for lunch and dinner are very plentiful.
We were a small group of four Brits, which worked really well. I was grateful for the small group when seeing the very large Intrepid and G Adventures groups being herded around.
The only changes I would suggest would be to fly between KTM and Lukla. This could avoid the 5hr drive, which was pretty dire, and the uncomfortable night in the Manthali tent.
The trek was quite significantly busier than I expected, especially our EBC day, which was frankly packed and chaotic at the rock. I assume because there had been a few days where people couldn't get through the pass due to bad weather. If I had known how busy it was going to be, I would probably have looked at the Gokyo Lakes/3 passes, or Manaslu circuit instead. If you are wanting a quiet environment without many people about, the EBC route in October is not for you.
I will miss the incredible mountains, views, and the kind and incredibly hard working Nepalese people. Thank you so much Freedom Adventures, our team, and MBA! I will be thinking of Nepal and the himalayas for a long time.

A trip to remember
I completed the Everest Base Camp trek (26 Sept – 13 Oct), and it was an incredible experience thanks to an outstanding team. Lead guide Kushahari Phuyal was professional, knowledgeable, and supportive throughout, even when facing the toughest weather challenges. Assistant guides Sebika Rai and Bhavisya Jung Thapa brought great energy and encouragement every step of the way.
Huge thanks to the support staff — Santa Bir Tamang, Panchaman Rai, Anmol Rai, Langa Bahadur Tamang, and Saikumar Tamang for their hard work and perseverance. We couldn’t have done it without them.
An unforgettable trek with a truly exceptional team.

A great trek to EBC
A fantastic trip from start to finish. The whole event was organised flawlessly from arriving at the airport to departing. I can’t say enough about our guides, Birdhoj & Nabin & the two porters who made the whole trip possible. They were kind, patient & welcoming throughout the trip and made the experience as good as it could have possibly been. They are a credit to their profession. I can highly recommend this trip!
Amazing EBC Trip!
Our EBC trek was an incredible journey, made even more special by the team who guided and supported us every step of the way. Despite some unusual weather — including fresh snowfall that turned the landscape into something out of a dream — we always felt safe, well looked after, and in great hands. Kuchahari Phuyal, our lead guide, was calm, experienced, and always in control. His leadership gave us confidence, especially when conditions got tough. Alongside him, assistant guides Sebika Rai and Bhavisya Jung Thapa (aka Future) brought great energy and encouragement, helping us stay motivated and positive throughout. The support crew — Santa Bir Tamang, Panchaman Rai, Anmol Rai, Langa Bahadur Tamang, and Saikumar Tamang — were fantastic. From setting up camp to keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes, they worked tirelessly and always with a smile. The snow added a unique twist to the trek, and while it made things more challenging, it also made the experience even more memorable. Thanks to the team’s professionalism and care, we never felt at risk — just lucky to be part of something so special. If you're thinking about doing EBC, we can’t recommend this team highly enough. They made a tough trek feel achievable, safe, and unforgettable.

Everest Base Camp Trek
Trekking to Everest Base Camp has always been a lifelong dream of mine, and I can honestly say the entire experience exceeded every expectation. From start to finish, everything was simply perfect — the guides, porters, organization, accommodation, and the breathtaking scenery.
Each day brought new challenges and even more stunning views, from the lush valleys of Lukla to the majestic peaks surrounding Base Camp. The team was incredibly supportive, professional, and friendly, making sure we were comfortable, safe, and motivated throughout the journey.
I was originally concerned as I was doing it alone, however our group of fellow trekkers were amazing, couldn’t have asked for a better group of people.
Our guides passion for the mountains and deep respect for the local culture made the trek even more meaningful.
Standing at Everest Base Camp, surrounded by the world’s highest peaks, was an emotional and unforgettable moment — truly the realization of a dream.
I can’t thank everyone enough for making this journey so special. If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing Everest up close, do it — it’s an experience of a lifetime, and with the right team, it’s absolutely incredible. That’s why I can’t recommend Much Better Adventures enough, these guys were simply the best x

One of the most amazing and humbling experiences I’ve had
The trek to EBC was flawless and incredibly well organised and I want to personally thank Birdhoj, Aayush, Ramesh and Narmani for helping getting me to Everest base camp and Kalar Patthar. Not only did they physically help us, but also were incredibly knowledgable about the mountains, were continuously reassuring and would always ensure we were happy, fit and in good spirits. I hope to see Bir and the team again very soon!

A Truly Life-Changing Experience – Perfectly Organised by MBA Adventures
Having just completed the Everest Base Camp trek with MBA Adventures, I can confidently say it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
From start to finish, the entire expedition was seamless. MBA handled every logistical detail, from airport transfers to accommodation, with professionalism and care, allowing us to focus entirely on the journey itself.
Our guide, Birdhoj, was nothing short of exceptional. His deep knowledge of the mountains, the trail, and local culture made each day fascinating, while his calm confidence and reassuring presence gave us complete peace of mind in even the toughest moments. He struck the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness, a true leader who made the trek unforgettable.
The group dynamic was also amazing. We were a team of like-minded individuals who quickly became friends, sharing laughs, stories, and challenges along the way. The camaraderie that formed on the trail added so much to the experience.
If you’re considering trekking to Everest Base Camp, I couldn’t recommend MBA Adventures more highly. They delivered an experience that was safe, inspiring, and deeply meaningful, a journey I’ll never forget.
EBC Trek September 2025
Amazing trek in some very difficult snowy conditions. It looked like we might not be able to make it due to the heavy snowfall however thanks to Kush and our guides we continued on, making it to base camp against the odds! Couldn't recommend the trip and the staff more, incredible trip in the most tricky conditions.

Meals
We do not include meals on the trekking part of this trip, as from experience we know that altitude and physical exercise can mean appetites vary hugely.
The cost of food rises as you ascend as it is all carried in by porters and yaks and as you get higher up, very little food can be grown. How much you spend per day will vary according to your choice of meal but generally, people spend between $25-$35 per person, per day on meals and hot drinks. Below is an approximate breakdown of some items:
- Dal baht: $4 to $7
- Chow mein: $2 to $4
- Eggs: $2 to $4
- Toast: $1.50 to $3
- Tea/hot chocolate: $1 to $3
- Chocolate bars: $2 to $4
Teahouses will provide cold water free of charge; however, it needs to be treated to enable you to drink it. Please read the FAQ below regarding our advice here.
Miscellaneous costs
Other extra costs at the teahouses to be considered are:
- Shower: $2-$4
- WiFi: $2-5
- Electricity: $2-5
See the below FAQ 'What’s Plan B in case of Lukla flight cancellations?' also.
Tips
It is customary in Nepal to tip guides and porters. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. You can give any tips to your lead guide at the end of your trip. This will then be shared amongst the whole team. For full transparency, the lead guide will distribute the tips to the guides and porters in your presence. It is customary for the guides to receive a higher share than the porters as they are more highly qualified.
A good rule of thumb is around $140pp as a tip, although the amount you give is entirely your choice.
If you would like to give an additional tip to a member of the team who has supported you personally, please do so directly and discretely.
Travel insurance
Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures, and you'll need to provide your policy details before departure. Your insurance should offer adequate coverage for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment, and the specific activities involved in your adventure. We also recommend ensuring your policy includes cancellation and curtailment coverage, in case you're unable to join your trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness. Standard travel insurance may not cover all the activities included in your adventure, so it's essential to check the details carefully. There are adventure-specific providers that many travelers have used in the past, such as True Traveller (for those based in the UK or Europe), or Rise + Shield, both of which offer coverage for a wide range of adventurous activities. Please make sure your chosen policy meets your individual needs and covers all aspects of your trip.
Owing to the nature of this trip, it is essential that your personal travel insurance policy provides coverage to the maximum altitude visited on this trip (18,210ft) as well as for emergency medical evacuation by helicopter.
Visas
Visa requirements often change, and you are responsible for obtaining any required visas for this trip. Please check with your nearest embassy or consulate for up-to-date advice.

Weight Restrictions
There is a weight restriction on the flight to and from Lukla of 22 lbs checked baggage plus 11 lbs hand luggage. It is not a problem for you to check in 2-4 lbs more than this as long as you are happy to pay an excess luggage charge (approx. $0.58 per lb). Some items may be left in the hotel in Kathmandu if necessary.
Please remove all unnecessary packing before you leave home and ensure you take all plastic off the mountain to be disposed of in Kathmandu.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 499kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
A mountain flight to Lukla is included on Day 3 of this adventure, with your return flight scheduled for Day 15. Although departure dates are planned outside the main monsoon season, mountain weather can be unpredictable. Delays or cancellations of flights to and from Lukla are not uncommon during the trekking season. Our itinerary is planned with this in mind, with built-in flexibility.
If your outbound Lukla flight is canceled, your local host will switch to Plan B:
You'll stay an extra night in Manthali (or Kathmandu) and try to fly the next day. If you arrive in Lukla on Day 4, you'll descend from Gorak Shep to Lukla over three longer days instead of four. Importantly, this doesn't affect your ascent rate to Everest Base Camp, so you'll still have the same number of days to acclimatize.
If poor weather continues and you reach Lukla on Day 5, one night in Namche Bazaar will be skipped on the way up. This change does slightly accelerate your ascent rate, as it removes one acclimatization day.
Another option — subject to availability — is to charter a helicopter. Helicopters are less affected by poor weather and may be able to fly when planes cannot. If you choose this option, you'll need to pay an additional $350–500 USD per person. This reflects the difference between the helicopter cost and the refund for your canceled flight.
If Lukla flights are canceled for more than two consecutive days and you haven’t arrived by Day 5 via any of the options above, it’s no longer possible to safely reach Everest Base Camp in the available time. In this case, your host will offer an alternative trek — usually the Annapurna Circuit from Chame to Jomsom, via the Thorong La Pass.
If you need to stay additional nights in Kathmandu due to flight cancellations, your host will ask you to pay the difference in accommodation costs — around $45 USD per room, per night — as hotels in Kathmandu are more expensive than glamping in Manthali or staying in a teahouse.

The preferred currency is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). While ATMs are available in the main cities, please do not rely on them as they are often out of order and most have a maximum withdrawal limit equivalent to about $360.
It's best to bring the bulk of your money with you in cash and exchange it at a bank or at one of the many money changers in Nepal - your guide will help you with this. Most major currencies are accepted, including US Dollars, British Pounds (Sterling) and Euros, however, Scottish or Northern Irish currency cannot be changed. Keep your exchange receipts in case you want to change any unused Rupees back into hard currency when you leave Nepal (it is illegal to export Nepalese Rupees as it is a closed currency).
You will need to carry a fairly large amount of cash while trekking for the meals. We advise that you keep this in a waterproof bag and in your day bag along with your passport.
We work with some of the best leaders in the industry. Every single one of them is government licensed and very experienced. To ensure the guides' high standard of performance, the host provides them with top-notch in-house training that covers Leave No Trace (LNT) principles, advanced wilderness first aid, hyperbaric chambers, oxygen systems, mountain rescue, and incident management.
The flight from Lukla to Kathmandu at the end of the trip is usually reliable; however, if the weather is poor, cancelations can happen, and there is a chance you will have to fly the next day. To play it safe, we advise you to consider booking an extra night's accommodation in Kathmandu at the end of the trip.
We've sourced some great optional activities for you to do in and around Kathmandu should you wish to explore a little further. Please discuss these directly with your host who will be able to reserve them for you.
Cook Like a Local: This short cooking workshop (approx. 3 hours) teaches you how to cook popular Nepali dishes like MoMo and Dal Bhat. You'll meet your teacher and accompany them shopping, then head to the kitchen and learn to cook alongside them. Price: Pay what you think the workshop is worth!
Shop Local: A 2/3 hour guided exploration of the markets of Kathmandu. Prepare to learn about the vendors that line the crowded narrow alleyways and to witness everything you could ever imagine being sold, haggled and bargained for. A great experience to learn about the melting pot of cultures that exist in Kathmandu. Price: $9-$50 per person depending on the group size.
Master the Arts: Patan Durbar Square is popular for its Fine Arts and this trip will explore the local factories where handicrafts are made. You'll visit 2-3 factories and learn about traditional processes and see art being produced. Price: $14-$59 per person depending on the group size.
Introduction to Shamanism: Shamanism, which is believed to heal many diseases, is not practiced widely these days however this trip enables you to meet a practicing Guru and learn all about this age-old tradition. You'll visit a small house to have an introduction, followed by lunch and a drumming session where you'll learn the importance of rhythm pattern to healing. Price: $90-$150 depending on group size.
Although most teahouses have the option to buy bottled water, we advise against it to reduce the use of plastic in the mountains (this ends up being burned or in landfill out of sight). You will instead be provided with cold water that needs treating. There is a wide range of products available these days which are more effective than traditional purification tablets - some trekkers like to use UV handheld devices such as a Steripen but other options are available (just check the performance in freezing conditions).
This trip includes a return domestic flight to Lukla. Nepal's mountainous terrain and weather create challenging flying conditions, and unfortunately, more incidents (including fatalities) occur here than in other countries. Since 2013, the EU has banned all Nepalese domestic airlines from flying within EU airspace to raise awareness of the poor safety record (although no Nepalese airlines were operating routes within the EU before the ban). You should be aware that flying in Nepal is an identified risk: please consider this carefully before booking. Additional information can be found on the Aviation Safety Network entry for Nepal as well as the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office travel advice for Nepal
Domestic airlines in Nepal are generally not accredited by any internationally recognized safety audit systems, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal does not operate to the same standards as those of Western nations.
What does MBA do about this?
MBA collaborates with other UK travel companies that arrange for independent air-safety auditors to visit Nepal annually to assess the local airlines. Our local host in Nepal then only uses the carriers that were approved as part of the most recent audit. If any concerns are subsequently raised about an approved airline between audits, we put them on hold until the auditors are satisfied that safety standards are being met.
Due to the nature of this trip, it's essential that your personal travel insurance policy covers the maximum altitude visited on this trip (18,209 ft) as well as emergency medical evacuation by helicopter.
This trip reaches elevations above 14,764ft, where the risks associated with Altitude Sickness (AMS) are higher, and where more serious conditions like HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema) can occur.
