This trip deserves 5 stars for the experience, professionalism of our guides/support crew during challenging weather conditions, and top-notch food/equipment/expertise.
On our very first night, we were hammered by rain. Huddled under a thin tarp, my group grinned at each other. That’s when I knew I was with the right sort! It’s also when I knew we were in good hands: Josh and Doga impressively strategized next steps. Despite the weather, everyone remained positive, relatively dry, and ate a hot meal.
The following days were the best: in and out of caves, tracing towering bluffs, passing over crystalline waters with an occasional sea turtle napping at the surface, snorkeling, and tackling high swells (to keep things interesting!). A highlight was surfing onto a beach with no soul in sight. With an impressive cliff as our backdrop, we watched the sun drop into crashing golden waves. Magical!
Unfortunately, more bad weather was on the way. The difficult decision to pull out early was made with consultation and great consideration. While disappointing, I was struck by the way the situation was handled. The team put forward an incredible effort to make the best of circumstances outside of their control.
My only surprise was the tourist boats around us towards the end (the first few days had none of this). We were hoping for something a little more isolated and quiet. But this might also be because we are spoiled Canadians!
Overall, this adventure was an incredible experience. We felt safe and cared for, relatively challenged (although I would call the difficulty level ‘moderate’), thoroughly enjoyed our fellow adventurers, and were awed by the land/seascape.
