Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to India!
HotelTwin shareBreakfast and dinner includedShow Day 1 detailHide detail
Delhi is the starting point for the trip, and an extra night's stay is included ahead of the trip, as many flights arrive into Delhi late at night. This means you can check in at any time on Day 1, or the night before, ensuring you're ready and refreshed ahead of your adventure. Spend the day enjoying the hotel facilities or exploring the local area at your own pace. In the afternoon, expert local guides lead a heritage walk through the historic walled city of Old Delhi, founded by Emperor Shah Jahan. Explore vibrant lanes, living traditions and centuries of history before finishing at Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib, one of the city’s most revered Sikh shrines, known for its devotion, community and spirit of selfless service. The group then gathers for a welcome briefing before heading to Lakhori restaurant for dinner, where you'll get your first taste of the spices and regional flavors that will carry through the journey ahead.
Day 2
Explore Delhi and bike through rural villages
Cycling2.5hrs · 6miTrain Ride3 hrsHotelTwin shareBreakfast includedShow Day 2 detailHide detail
Start the morning with a walk led by Salaam Baalak Trust, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and rehabilitating street children in Delhi. Your guide was once supported by the Trust, and through their personal stories you'll discover sides of the city that most visitors never reach. Afterwards, board the train to Agra - once the imperial heart of the Mughal Empire and a center of architecture and craftsmanship during the 16th and 17th centuries. Pick up lunch for the journey; your guide will point out the best spots as you watch the countryside unfold on the way south. In the late afternoon, set off by bike through local villages, catching glimpses of traditional practices such as akhada (wrestling) and pottery. The route ends with the Taj Mahal coming into view across the open countryside. Dinner is at a local restaurant serving a selection of Indian dishes.
Day 3
Taj Mahal at sunrise and Agra's street food scene
HotelTwin shareBreakfast and dinner includedShow Day 3 detailHide detail
This morning, it's off to the Taj Mahal. You'll enter at sunrise to get ahead of the crowds, though do come prepared for company. As the first light hits the white marble facade, the monument shifts from rose to ivory, creating a magical moment that’s hard to beat. After an early start, enjoy some free time to relax and have lunch before heading to Agra Fort. Explore red sandstone courtyards and marble pavilions that once housed Mughal emperors, before venturing into Agra’s historic bazaars for a street food walking tour. You’ll have the chance to try over a dozen dishes and watch skilled craftspeople at work around you.
Day 4
Birdwatching in Keoladeo National Park and a Rajasthani welcome

Unwind this morning with a gentle yoga session overlooking the Taj Mahal before heading to Keoladeo National Park in Bharatpur - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of India’s best birdwatching spots, home to over 370 species. Explore the park by cycle rickshaw, keeping an eye out for storks, herons and perhaps even the endangered Pallas’s Sea Eagle. After lunch at a nearby restaurant or local property, continue your journey to Jaipur, Rajasthan’s capital and the iconic Pink City. In the evening, you're welcomed into a local Rajasthani family's home for a cooking demonstration and a home-cooked meal, learning the techniques behind their everyday dishes.
Day 5
Cycling through the Pink City, then up to Nahargarh Fort
Cycling2hrs · 19miHotelTwin shareBreakfast and dinner includedShow Day 5 detailHide detail
Fuel up with an early breakfast, as the morning starts on two wheels, heading first to the Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds, with its pink facade punctuated by 953 carved windows. From there, you'll ride out to Amber Fort, a hilltop stronghold of grand Rajput architecture and intricate courtyards, including the striking Sheesh Mahal, or Hall of Mirrors. The ride ends at the City Palace, a sprawling royal complex of courtyards and museums at the heart of the old city. Enjoy some free time to relax and have lunch before heading out towards the foothills of the Aravalli Range. From here, set off on a gentle hike up to Nahargarh Fort, where sweeping views of Jaipur unfold as you climb. At the top, explore its frescoed interiors and take in the sunset from its elevated perch above the city. Dinner is served here, so soak up the ambiance as Jaipur comes alive at night.
Day 6
From Jodhpur's Blue City to Chandelao Garh
Train Ride5 hrsHotelTwin shareBreakfast and dinner includedShow Day 6 detailHide detail
An early start this morning to catch the train to Jodhpur, though the journey gives you time to sit back and watch the Rajasthan countryside roll past. On arrival, head straight to Mehrangarh Fort, one of India’s largest. Its grand palaces and intricate stonework are well worth the climb, with sweeping views over the Blue City below. After a short walk through the Blue City and stopping for lunch at a restaurant, continue to Chandelao Garh, a 17th-century fort restored as a boutique heritage stay in Chandelao village. It’s a true step away from the city, with traditional architecture, warm hospitality and easy access to rural life and local crafts. Settle into your heritage stay, where a locally sourced meal awaits.
Day 7
Bishnoi villages and dinner under the desert stars
HotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 7 detailHide detail
Today, head out by jeep through the rural Rajasthani countryside, passing fields, traditional homes, and the occasional camel, goat, or buffalo along the way. Stop to meet local artisans weaving camel-hair rugs and throwing clay pots, with the chance to try your hand at pottery yourself. The route continues through Bishnoi villages, where a strong tradition of wildlife conservation means you’ll have a good chance of spotting nilgai, blackbuck, chinkara gazelles, and birds, including the Egyptian vulture. The morning ends with a visit to a Bishnoi home for a glimpse into their everyday life. Spend the afternoon at your leisure before a scenic drive to a rocky outcrop above the Thar Desert, where a spectacular barbecue dinner is prepared over wood fires under the stars.

Leopard safari in the Godwar region

This morning it’s off to Narlai, a small village in the Aravalli range, set among granite hills, ancient temples, stepwells and heritage homes. Lunch is served on arrival at Rawla Narlai, in locally owned restaurants with panoramic views over the surrounding landscape. Later this afternoon, set out with expert naturalists and local trackers on a leopard safari through the Godwar region. Unlike forest safaris, this experience unfolds across rugged granite hills, scrubland and rural countryside, where leopards move in close proximity to local communities. Alongside leopards, the area is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including jackals, hyenas, antelopes, wild boar, and occasionally caracals and sloth bears.

The day starts with an early wake-up call for another opportunity to track elusive leopards at their most active on a jeep safari, as the landscape is still quiet and the light is just breaking. Return to Narlai for a late breakfast, and the rest of the morning is yours. After lunch, set out with a local guide on a hike through the Aravalli hills and scrub forests around Narlai, following the lesser-known trails that pass through tribal hamlets and pastoral settlements. Along the way, you may encounter Rabari herders, known for their distinctive culture and close connection to the land.

After an early breakfast, set off for Udaipur - a city built around lakes, palaces, and havelis that have defined Rajput architecture for centuries. On arrival, freshen up before exploring the City Palace, one of the largest palace complexes in Rajasthan. Its courtyards, balconies, and intricate Rajput stonework are best discovered at a leisurely pace. In the evening, head out on a boat cruise on Lake Pichola, taking in views across to Jag Mandir and the Lake Palace, before dinner at a local restaurant.

What's not included
Our trips do not include flights, trains or other travel to the start point and back from the end point.
There are six lunches not included on this trip, giving you the chance to explore the local food scene. Your guide will give recommendations of the best places to eat. We recommend budgeting about 2,000 rupees (approximately $18) for each lunch which is not included.
Tips are not included in the trip cost; these are entirely at your discretion but are a normal part of service culture in India. Your drivers, guides, and hotel staff work incredibly hard behind the scenes and often become a memorable part of the experience itself. If you would like to tip, the amount should be reflective of your perception of service and quality. We recommend:
- Drivers: INR 500–750 per person/day
- Guides: INR 1,000–1,500 per person/day
- Hotel porters & housekeeping: INR 200–300
- Specialist activity guides - INR 2,000 to INR 5,000
You know your own spending habits best, so please budget an appropriate amount for things like optional food and drinks, shopping and laundry.
Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures, and you'll need to provide your policy details before departure. Your insurance should offer adequate coverage for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and gear, and the specific activities involved in your adventure. We also recommend ensuring your policy includes cancellation and curtailment coverage, in case you're unable to join your trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness.
Standard travel insurance may not cover all the activities included in your adventure, so it's essential to check the details carefully. There are adventure-specific providers that many travelers have used in the past, such as True Traveller (opens in new tab) (for those based in the UK or Europe), or Rise + Shield (opens in new tab), both of which offer coverage for a wide range of adventurous activities.
Please make sure your chosen policy meets your individual needs and covers all aspects of your trip.
Visa requirements often change, and you are responsible for obtaining any required visas for this trip. The below is a guideline, but please check with your nearest embassy or consulate for up-to-date advice.
All foreign nationalities entering India require a valid visa, which in most cases must be obtained in advance of travel (please check the regulations for your nationality). You must have a machine-readable passport, valid for at least 180 days from your arrival date in India. Persons of Indian origin must have an OCI card. Clients with a Pakistani passport or of Pakistani descent will need extra time and additional documents for visa processing.
Applicants of eligible countries can either apply online for an Indian e-Visa or apply for a Standard Visa, which involves an in-person visit to a branch of the Indian High Commission's Visa Facilitation Service (VFS). There have been delays to Standard Visa processing times, so please book your appointment ASAP if using this service.

FAQs
Can my dietary requirements be accommodated on this adventure?
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive, and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location, and lodging, and in some places, options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully before your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.
Once you have booked your trip, please fill out your passenger information form ASAP with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.
BACKGROUND
Rajasthan's cuisine is shaped by its arid desert landscape and a strong Hindu and Jain cultural heritage, both of which historically limited the availability of fresh produce and discouraged meat consumption in many communities. The result is a largely vegetarian culinary tradition built around lentils, dried pulses, flatbreads, and dairy, with spicing that reflects centuries of trade along caravan routes. This generally makes the region more accommodating than most for vegetarians and vegans, though travelers with gluten or legume intolerances may find the staple ingredients harder to avoid.
SPECIAL DIETS
Vegetarian
Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance.
Vegan
Vegan diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance.
Kosher
Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are rare and usually cannot be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
Halal
Certified Halal supply varies by location and may not always be possible. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
INTOLERANCES
Gluten-free (for Celiac, please see Allergies section below)
Gluten-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance.
Lactose-free
Lactose-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance.
ALLERGIES
Our host has confirmed that they are able to accommodate mild allergies to the 14 allergens identified by the UK Food Standards Agency, where these are disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy, please get in touch with our Customer Experience team prior to booking, to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip. This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provisions on the trip, and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority. Please note that when traveling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods, and labeling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. While your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.
What should I do about drinking water?
Tap water in India is generally not safe for consumption. It's best to stick to filtered and bottled water, which will be provided at hotels. You can also use a water filter. Ice is usually made from untreated tap water, so it is recommended not to accept drinks with ice in.
What if things don't go to plan?
Throughout the trip, all major logistics, including train travel, transfers, and internal flights, are arranged for you and managed by your local guide. Train journeys generally run smoothly and on time. Traffic in larger cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, and Udaipur can build up, causing some delays, but this will be factored into your timings for the day. In the event of any unforeseen delays, your local guide will make adjustments to the schedule and keep you informed. Overall, traveling in India can feel busy and fast-paced at times, but this is all part of the experience and an opportunity to embrace the energy and spontaneity of the country.
How many guides and support crew will there be on my trip?
You will have an expert, English-speaking local guide throughout your trip, who will coordinate activities, lodging and share insights into the places you visit. In addition, you will be joined by specialist activity guides for key experiences, including the Agra cycling tour, yoga in Agra, birdwatching in Keoladeo National Park, the Jaipur cooking demonstration and cycling tour, the Nahargarh Fort hike, Chandelao village visit, the Narlai leopard safari, and hiking in the Aravalli Hills. At your lodgings, there will also be staff on hand to assist with any questions and ensure you have everything you need. Overall, customer service in Rajasthan is of a very high standard, particularly in the hotels featured on this trip.
Can I leave my excess baggage somewhere?
Since this trip starts and ends in different cities, it will not be possible to store any luggage. However, your luggage will be transported from location to location, so you need not worry about carrying it long distances.
Why do we sometimes have to stay at an alternative hotel in Agra, Jaipur, and Udaipur?
We have selected some of the best heritage properties available in these cities, all of which are 5-star hotels offering a high level of service. As a result, many are popular venues for weddings. In India, weddings are often large-scale celebrations with many guests, and it is not uncommon for entire hotels to be reserved for the occasion. Your host will always do their best to secure our first-choice hotels. However, in the event that these are unavailable, any alternative properties offered will be of a similarly high standard.
Will it be busy in the destinations we visit?
In a country of over 1 billion people, its major cities are naturally busy. A trip to Rajasthan would not be complete without visits to Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, but we have selected quieter areas where possible and planned visits at less busy times of day. We have also balanced time in these cities with time in nature and rural settings, including Keoladeo National Park, Chandelao, and Narlai, to offer a broader perspective on Rajasthan’s landscapes and way of life.
Why don't we include Ranthambore National Park on this trip?
At Much Better Adventures, we are strong advocates for responsible wildlife experiences that allow travelers to observe animals safely and respectfully. In some popular wildlife destinations, high visitor numbers can place pressure on ecosystems and affect animal behavior. We have chosen not to include Ranthambore National Park on this itinerary, where there are well-documented concerns around overcrowding and vehicle pressure around tiger sightings. Instead, we focus on lesser-known wildlife locations that offer more responsible viewing conditions. There will still be plenty of opportunities to observe wildlife throughout the trip, including at Keoladeo National Park, during leopard safaris in Narlai, and while hiking in the Aravalli Hills.
What wildlife might I see on this trip?
This trip features two main wildlife-focused experiences, with additional opportunities to spot wildlife on hikes and bike rides throughout the journey. On Day 4, you’ll visit Keoladeo National Park for a cycle rickshaw tour and the chance to see some of the 370+ bird species that call the park home, including storks, herons and potentially the endangered Pallas’s Sea Eagle. On Days 8 and 9, you’ll head out on leopard safari drives around Narlai in the Godwar region. As these are wild animals, sightings can never be guaranteed, but there is a good chance of spotting a leopard during one of the drives. Both Keoladeo National Park and the Godwar region are lesser-visited wildlife areas, offering a more peaceful and authentic way to experience Rajasthan’s natural landscapes.
Who is Salaam Baalak Trust?
Salaam Baalak Trust is an award-winning Indian non-profit dedicated to supporting street and working children. Co-founded in 1988 using proceeds from the acclaimed film Salaam Bombay!, the organization provides shelter, education, and healthcare to vulnerable children living on the streets of Delhi. They offer tours led by adults who were previously supported by the Trust, helping to raise funds for the organization while also providing valuable training and skills that can support future career opportunities.

We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers review the practical information available on the UK Government’s FCDO website, where you can find up-to-date advice by searching for your destination(s).
If you are based in the United States, you can also check the latest travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State.
For customers joining from other international locations, we recommend checking the official travel advice issued by your country of residence, as guidance may vary.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates daily, so prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

What's the weather like?
Rajasthan is usually warm and dry for most of the year. Winter (December–February) offers the coolest temperatures, with daytime highs in the low 70s°F. March gets warmer, with highs of around 86°F.
April to July sees temperatures in the mid to high 90s°F (over 100°F), so we do not run trips during these months, as the activities we offer are not suited to this climate.
August and September have average daily highs in the low 90s°F and are the wettest months of the year, with high humidity during the monsoon season. Rain showers are usually short-lived, however, and the landscape is at its greenest, making this a great time to visit if you’re comfortable with the heat and humidity.
In November, temperatures begin to drop, with daily highs around 80°F.
Typically, the second half of this itinerary is a few degrees warmer than the first, as you travel further south.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 582kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
