The floods that cover Soomaa National Park in spring are referred to by the locals as the 'fifth season'. The water level in the area can rise by up to five metres in the spring, but it's no natural disaster - it is a quirk of nature that happens every year because of the water table in the area. Everything is flooded: meadows, fields, forests, roads and even houses.
The fifth season's floods generally occur in the second and third week of April. Join our guide to explore the area in a canoe - just about the only way of getting about in the area!
Trips set out twice a day during the season and last from 10:00-14:00 or 14:00-18:00. Advance bookings are required.
