Fantastic trip, highly recommended. The Philippines are stunningly beautiful and the people very warm and friendly. We were incredibly well looked after during our trip with Rey, in particular, an absolute star. Already looking at our next MBA trip.

Had the most fabulous time on this, our first MBA trip. Every step of the way was organised to perfection. The hotels were great and the night on the beach truly amazing. Our guide Rey could not have given us a better experience. Loved experiencing new things such as kayaking and snorkelling. The food was incredible and hospitality of the Filipino people could not have been better. A great, fun adventure with our lovely group of friends. Our first but definitely not our last trip with MBA

Can't fault this adventure. We

Can't fault this adventure. We were a group of 10 friends (5 couples) and this holiday did not disappoint. Our guide Rey B was incredible. Nothing was too much trouble. He was well informed, every transition was seamless and every step of the way we felt safe and supported. The locations and accommodation were great and the sleeping on the beach was a highlight. This part of the world is amazing from the tuk-tuk rides to the breathtaking scenery. The communication with MBA was good and overall I would highly recommend this company but the biggest shout out goes to the amazing people we encountered and our guide Rey B and his crew who made this adventure a truly unforgettable experience.

From the start to the finish this was the best holiday I’ve been on. We went as a group of 10 friends (it started as 12 unfortunately 2 had to withdraw). Rey Ballesca and his team of guides and helpers went above and beyond our expectations to make this trip magical in every sense of the word. Friendly, engaging, entertaining experienced knowledgable, understanding and just downright bloody good people made this trip unforgettable. Nothing was ever a problem and I think they enjoyed the adventure as much as we did as for me we morphed from a small group of people on holiday to into a gathering of friends enjoying an adventure - Rey, Bert, Albert, Jason and all the other guides, helpers and workers you cracked it. The little tweaks when needed, the food you provided, the flow of beverages for the ‘hydration’ stops - you recreated utopia for 10 days. If you get chance do this holiday you won’t be disappointed

A truly wonderful experience. Snorkelling, canoeing, paddle boarding, waterfalls banca boat trips and so much more. Each day brought a new adventure and all of the people involved are wonderful. The accommodation is great the food plentiful and the hydration water was just the ticket after a full day out and about. Rey is an absolute legend so organised everything flowed flawlessly he is funny helpful and nothing is too much for him to sort and organise. It was the best holiday we have experienced and would thoroughly recommend it. From cycling to camping under the stars swimming in coral reefs to experiencing a fully cooked fresh lunch each day on board a boat it truly is a trip of a lifetime.

60th Birthday Adventure
60th Birthday Adventure
60th Birthday Adventure

We have just returned from the most unforgettable trip touring the Philippine islands. Ten of us (best school friends) booked this trip of a lifetime to celebrate our 60th Birthdays and it is definitely one we will never forget. From arriving in Manila and being greeted by our truly fantastic host Rey (who made this adventure what it was) we have cycled, snorkelled, paddle boarded, swam in crystal clear water, swam under a waterfall and sailed around so many of the beautiful islands by Banca boat with the best crew looking after us every step of the way! We spent one night on a deserted island in tents under the stars, the meal that was cooked for us was just incredible and we ended the evening toasting marshmallows around the campfire! Every day of this trip was different from the one before and Rey made it so interesting and fun - he certainly kept us “hydrated” and the restaurants he took us to were perfect. We really cannot recommend this trip enough and Much Better Adventures. Being graded as a level one is a fantastic introduction to the many adventures that this company offers and we are already looking at planning our next one.

We covered a lot of

We covered a lot of distance by both car and boat for a relatively short period of time. This was not evident from the itinerary . A map would be beneficial. This also meant that a couple of activities did not happen due to time .

Margaret T.(March 2026)
Very unimpressed with the hygiene

Very unimpressed with the hygiene surrounding food preparation. Seven from eight people became ill. Accommodation was good but itinerary didn’t allow full use of facilities. Boat trips were far too long with enjoyable but not spectacular snorkeling but it meant you were wet for most of the day. Rey was good , however I would have appreciated more knowledge re the culture of the Philippino people. The very last day was horrendous. This could have easily been avoided if flights were booked earlier. Unfortunately I can’t recommend this trip which is the first time ever. Being ill for more than half the time and still recovering has never happened to me before.

The trip needs to be

The trip needs to be more specific for Kayaking. We were all disappointed with the kayaks. They were difficult to paddle without a rudder . We are a kayaking group with experience but gave up trying to with the buckets. But all in all we enjoyed the trip. Shame we all became so sick.

Beautiful Philippines!

I have had a wonderful holiday island hopping in the Philippines. Special mention for our fantastic guide Rey. What an ideal person for the job! Rey was caring, thorough, knowledgeable, funny and entertaining. And more . . . . . . Thank you Rey! Scenery was spectacular, with beautiful clear aqua water for swimming and snorkeling. The local helpers, boat crew, drivers, greeters etc, were without fail, friendly, helpful, capable and attentive. The accommodation was always great, even the camping on the beach (pretty glam camping really!). Fresh filtered water was always available. A great experience thank you.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip with friends. Our guide Rey was fantastic. He is young and full of energy. Very friendly, considerate and helpful. There was a lot of travel, a bit of a downer but then we did cover a lot!! and the activities were all very doable. In fact in some cases a bit too easy. But enjoyable all the same.

A perfectly adventure - so beautiful!

This trip was so well organised. Every detail was planned and thought through and the tour leader, Rey, was a legend anticipating every need before you even realised. Also the food was phenomenal. The Philippines is almost ridiculously beautiful. It’s like being in a travel brochure. Book it!

Fantastic Trip

This trip was absolutely brilliant. Beautiful water, outstanding food, snorkelling and a brilliant guide in Rey who anticipated our every want before we even knew it ! I’ve been on many guided trips before but Rey is genuinely the most professional and best guide I have ever encountered. The night in the island sleeping under the stars was a particularly highlight in a trip of brilliant adventure. I can not recommend this trip enough.

I would definitely recommend this trip - it is a must experience tour. The Philippines is simply stunning and this tour combined gorgeous beaches, amazing snorkelling, fun kayaking, SUPing and waterfalls, great hotels and delicious food (you will not go hungry), plus never ending rum if you wished 😁.

Rey is one of the best, if not the best, tour leader I have experienced across many previous trips. He is incredibly well organised but also caring, funny, knowledgeable, and thinks of everything to make your tour even better, often exceeding my expectations.

Highlights of the tour were so many but sleeping under the stars and waking up in tents on Linapacan island was particularly memorable, as was swimming with a turtle and watching a clown fish parent protecting its young in coral. Honestly, book this tour. You will not be disappointed.

Exceptional & absolutely memorable!!!!

This was hands down the best adventure trip I have taken. Much Better Adventures has put together an incredible and exciting schedule with outstanding locations and activities - every single day was fun and memorable. Whether it was snorkeling and encountering sea turtles who swam with us or kayaking, SUP'ing or swimming in secluded lagoons and small bays or spending the night under open skies in mesh tents on deserted island beaches - such wonderful experiences that made me pinch myself on a daily basis! Highly recommend this trip, this destination and definitely the Much Better Adventure guide and crew.

Brilliant - wish I was still there!

Just the best trip - stunning islands, amazing snorkelling with so much to see (turtles, squid, giant starfish, clown fish), sensational food (especially on the boats), deserted beaches, Hilot massages. A great combination of roughing it with nice hotels mixed in - the camping was a real highlight. Rey, our tour leader, was the perfect combination of laidback and fun while also super organised and on top of everything. Already planning my trip back to the Philippines.

Anna C.(January 2026)

Brilliant holiday with well-planned activities and stunning scenery. Our guide Rey, was outstanding—timed everything perfectly so we avoided crowds and made the most of each stop. Lots of travel and some long drives I hadn’t expected, but overall a smooth and memorable experience. Only minor downsides: limited wildlife info, although stunning snorkelling opportunities and remote camping wasn’t as remote/off-grid as expected, possibly due to recent typhoon damage at the usual site. Still, highly recommend for an amazing adventure! Four stars due to long travel days

This trip was fantastic from start to end. The group was excellent fun, but our guide, Rey, made the tour everything it could be. We were fighting against the weather (two typoons. . . ) and yet the locals and the group were unfazed and we only missed out on a small part of the itinerary thanks to Rey's organisation. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone. The Philippines is an amazing place and I'll certainly be returning.

Lovely trip, beautiful country, and the Filipino people are some of the friendliest you’ll ever meet—they truly couldn’t do enough for us.

Rey, our guide, was absolutely fantastic: friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and always going the extra mile for the group.

Although two typhoons disrupted parts of the planned itinerary, Rey handled every change with calm expertise, ensuring the experience remained both fun and safe.

Despite the weather challenges, the trip was still truly unforgettable.

The food, the accommodation, and every aspect of the experience were spot on—sadly, the one thing nobody can control is the weather!

Highly recommend this trip. Don’t hesitate—just book it.

Great adventure in these lovely islands
Great adventure in these lovely islands
Great adventure in these lovely islands

I'm giving this trip 4 stars rather than 5 just because of the amount of internal travel that eats into your activity time. It's hard to avoid this if you want to see more of these beautiful islands, so maybe MBA could consider extending the length of the trip to compensate for that. Otherwise, 5 stars to our superb guide, Rey, who was consistently upbeat, helpful and positive, even when we had to change some of our itinerary due to the impact of the recent typhoon. 5 stars to the water activities (I could have lived without the spider web), 5 stars to the food and 5 stars to be accommodation. I was with a lovely group of people from diverse backgrounds. We have taken home unforgettable memories that will keep us smiling for a long time.

I’ve done a few trips previously with other companies and I can honestly say this has been my favourite by far - if you are thinking about booking, go for it, you won’t regret it!

We had the most incredible few days with each perfect day being bettered by the next. The experiences we had, snorkelling, kayaking, sleep under the stars were all incredible and ones I will never forget.

A big part of creating this experience, and my thanks for it, goes to Rey and his team. Rey is clearly passionate about his job, finds and works with amazing local partners in each area we visited and always has a smile on his face.

I leave this trip with the fondest memories and amazing new friends.

My only suggestion would be to make it longer and to add another Philippines adventure (same fitness level please due to heat) covering the north and south! If Rey is leading this trip too then I will be returning for sure!

Annie Q.(April 2025)
Wow!

Amazing trip! Soooo much amazing snorkelling with the highlight being seeing and swimming with turtles! Food was delicious with a philipino feast delivered every lunch time! Above and beyond my expectations! Guides and boat crews were all amazing too!

Your host will meet you on arrival at Manila Airport at any time on Day 1 and transfer you to your hotel in the city. On the morning of Day 10, you'll transfer to the domestic airport for a flight from Busuanga to Manila, arriving in Manila before noon. We recommend scheduling your international return flight to depart after 6:00 PM to allow ample time for airport security and any potential delays. This will provide a buffer in case of any delays or disruptions with your internal flight from Busuanga to Manila, minimizing the risk of missing your international flight.

Airport transfers are included if you arrive on Day 1 and depart on Day 10 – if you are arriving earlier or departing later, your host can arrange private airport transfers for an additional fee. See Optional Extras for prices.

Food and Dietary info

During your island expedition through Palawan, you'll enjoy a combination of fresh seafood, grilled meats, and local fruits and vegetables. You'll typically have options of chicken, pork or grilled fish, often featuring the day's catch of tanigue or lapu-lapu. These meals are generally accompanied by steamed rice and local vegetables. You can also try classic Filipino dishes like adobo (a savory, slow-cooked stew typically made with chicken or pork, marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, bay leaves, and black peppercorns). Noodle dishes are also a staple in Filipino cuisine, with pancit canton being very popular (stir-fried egg noodles with meat, seafood, and vegetables, soy sauce and citrus). On the islands, you'll have access to plenty of fresh fruits such as coconuts, mangoes, pineapples, bananas, and papayas, as well as local citrus like calamansi. For dessert, you'll try halo-halo (a mix of shaved ice, sweetened beans, fruits, and jellies), topped with leche flan and purple yam. Enjoy!

Trip level explained

Level 1

Easy

No prior experience of any of the activities in this itinerary is needed. A reasonable level of general fitness is advised, as you'll be hiking, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), snorkeling and biking at different points across the itinerary, for 2–4 hours each day.

As you'll be on and in the ocean on most days throughout the trip doing various activities, it's essential that you are confident in water and able to swim. Hikes will be through forest and on easy jungle trails, and although the hiking is not at high altitude or on difficult terrain, the heat and humidity will mean you need to be prepared. Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) around the islands will generally be leisurely, paddling on placid waters. Biking around Intramuros in Manila will be along easy, flat terrain.

What will I need to carry?

You will need to transport your bag from the minibus into the airport, and vice versa, for the internal flights. On Day 6, you will also need to bring your luggage to the boat, where it can be left throughout your island hopping excursion of Lincapan. For the rest of the itinerary, your larger bag, suitable for all your belongings, will be transported for you. You'll need a small backpack to carry personal items during each day of activity.

Hot climate: factors to consider

This trip operates in areas where daytime temperatures can reach extreme levels, with limited shade and, at times, high humidity adding to the challenge. These conditions can affect physical performance and increase the risk of dehydration or heat-related illness. Your guide will adjust the pace and monitor the group closely, but staying well hydrated, wearing suitable clothing, and using sun protection is essential.

Before traveling, consider your ability to remain active in high temperatures and consult a medical professional if you have any concerns, especially if you have cardiovascular or heat-sensitive conditions. Arriving a day or two before the trip may help you adjust gradually to the heat.

Highly Remote Environments: Factors to Consider

This trip travels through very remote areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited and evacuation may take a significant amount of time. In some locations, medical facilities may provide only basic treatment, and further travel may be required to reach a hospital capable of providing more advanced care.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, evacuation may involve multiple stages and different forms of transportation before reaching appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may be unreliable for significant portions of this trip and communication may rely on satellite devices carried by your guides.

Your guides are trained and experienced in operating in remote environments and will manage the group carefully throughout the journey. However, due to the remoteness of these locations, access to external support may be limited and delays to medical care should be expected.

Before booking, consider your personal health and comfort traveling in locations where medical care and evacuation options may be limited or delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we strongly recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before traveling. If you have a medical condition that may require rapid access to specialist care, regular monitoring, or emergency treatment, this type of remote travel may not be suitable without careful planning and medical advice.

Your travel insurance must cover the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation.

FAQs

For your island-hopping adventures, you will be cruising on a traditional outrigger boat, known locally as a 'banca.' These sturdy vessels have been a staple of Philippine coastal life for centuries, serving as both fishing boats and water taxis. The unique design of the outrigger canoe allows it to navigate shallow coral reefs and marine life without causing disturbance, and is an eco-friendly choice for exploring the country's islands.

Citizens of many countries can enter the Philippines without a visa for a stay of up to 30 days. These countries include the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, the European Union member states, and Australia. If you wish to stay longer than the allowed visa-free period, you can apply for an extension at the Bureau of Immigration in the Philippines. Where a visa is required, some nationalities can obtain a visa upon arrival for a fee, allowing a stay of up to 59 days. If your country is not on the visa-free or visa-on-arrival list, you will need to apply for a tourist visa before traveling.

Your trip includes internal flights from Manila to Puerto Princesa and from Busuanga to Manila. You'll fly on either Cebu Pacific or Philippine Airlines and you're allowed to travel with up to 15 lbs of carry-on luggage and 44 lbs of checked luggage per person.

On Day 8, there will be a free afternoon in Coron. If you are PADI certified, it's a great opportunity for a scuba diving session, which you can arrange and pay for directly with your host. If you think this is something you'd like to do, it's important to contact your host before your arrival in the country to let them know that you're interested in making a reservation and provide the necessary details. Your host will check that you are a certified diver and whether you have been scuba diving in the past year; this information is crucial for safety and eligibility purposes. If you have not been diving within the past year, a refresher course or tune-up session will be mandatory to ensure you are comfortable and proficient with diving procedures and equipment. Your host can assist in arranging this. Once all the necessary information is provided and any required refresher courses are completed, your host will finalize the reservation of your scuba diving session and send you a confirmation with details about the dive.

Your host will provide two-seater kayaks, perfect for beginners and beyond. These kayaks are lightweight, stable, and easy to maneuver. Their design makes it nearly impossible to tip over unless done intentionally (which you might choose to do for fun!). Before you set off your host will give you all the necessary info to use the kayaks safely.

There will be a supply of filtered drinking water available that your host will provide throughout the journey, so be sure to bring a refillable water bottle (1-2 liters).

Tips are not included in the trip cost. These are entirely at your discretion but there is an expectation to tip for good service. For this trip we recommend approximately $45-$50 per person for the main tour leader, plus $50-$55 to be shared by other local guides and drivers.

Of course, you are free to tip more or less, and the amount should be reflective of your perception of service and quality – a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service.

Your local host will strive to follow the planned itinerary, but adjustments may be necessary for your safety and comfort due to weather or sea conditions. Boat transfers are handled by independent companies that usually run on schedule, but can be delayed or canceled at short notice due to weather or mechanical issues. Should a cancelation occur, your guide will arrange alternatives and reschedule any included activities whenever feasible.

If major itinerary changes result in significant additional costs (like extra hotel nights), these expenses would be the customer's responsibility, to be reimbursed through travel insurance.

Palawan and Coron have a tropical climate with distinct seasons. From November to May, the weather is generally dry and warm, making it the best time to visit. Daytime temperatures range from 84–86°F, while nighttime temperatures can drop to around 77–81°F. The sea temperature remains suitable for swimming throughout this period and it's an ideal destination for water activities like snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, etc. The rainy season in the Philippines typically starts in May/June and goes on until October, with frequent showers, thunderstorms, and higher humidity. By November and December, the weather is relatively dry again.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 402kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
