Wonderful trip

This was my first trip with MBA and we had a wonderful time. I went with 3 other friends and we all enjoyed it very much. Dianna and Demetra were amazing guides and yoga instructors and the hiking was stunning. The food was perfect and the packed lunches absolutely delicious. The accommodation was perfect and I was only sad that I didn’t have chance to use the beautiful pool but the days were busy from 8 am until bed so perhaps a little bit more downtime could be factored in - but it was a wonderful trip and would definitely recommend.

Excellent week - great variety of hiking - yoga was pitched really well - stretching after the walks was amazing. The girls who looked after us were so lovely.

I don’t think I can put into words how amazing this trip was. The hikes were more difficult than I was expecting, but Daiana and Dimitra were amazing. I don’t think I would have been able to complete some of the hikes without their help. Their yoga also helped me prepare my body and mind for the day/night ahead. This trip allowed me to see places I never would have thought to look for, let alone be able to get there alone. The hotel was great and the food was always delicious. Thank you for an incredible time.

Evia has been amazing to discover, such a stunning place for wild hikes, rocky and river treks/ climbs and spectacular views! So many highlights in this trip, river crossing to the waterfall of Manikiatis, the secluded beach hike and the one to top of Mount Ochi with all the incredible yoga sessions with Daiana, specially the ones outdoor. I truly think that yoga sesions complement 100% the hiking, feeling ready for any challenge in the morning and relaxing your muscles in the evening. Accommodation was dreamy, as well as, all the yumny food freshly prepared by the hotel owners for us every time with all locally sourced products. Only I wish the trip was a day longer in the middle to have the afternoon free to enjoy more the hotel infinity pool :) or wander to the nearest beach! Packed lunch were sooo good and Mike and Daiana always went the extra mile to cater for everyone dietary requirement, drive us around and organising everything being always lovely and caring, big shout out to both! This was my 3rd MBA trip and once again super lucky to have shared it with such a great bunch of fun & up-for-anything people!. . . currently thinking in planning my next adventure ;)

This trip was just the reset I needed. The hikes were varied, and the yoga and stretches really complemented it. Mike and Diana were amazing hosts and guides — they were patient and knowledgeable. The food was delicious as well; from the packed lunches to the evening meals, they were really creative and embraced the local cuisine. The hotel was absolutely stunning as well, with a beautiful view of the sea from my window, I felt like I was waking up in paradise every day. Overall, I met some wonderful people, and had a really positive experience!

A jam-packed 5 days on an island I would not have visited but for this trip and Im so glad i did. This was my first ever adventure style trip and it was amazing. A gorgeous hotel, delicious local food and stunning walks all topped with lovely yoga sessions. Mike and Daianna were wonderful guides with so much local knowledge, the walks were varied and took us to some beautiful spots. The whole trip was so thoughtfully planned and i met a lovely group of people. A week Ill never forget. Swimming by waterfalls, hiking to a mountain peak and yoga on the beach were highlights.

Our group in late April were lucky with the weather but everything else was down to the fantastic hosts Diana and Demitris. The pace and challenge of the activities were just right, fantastic scenery and great local food. Our hosts were very knowledgeable about the area and Greek history. Lots of laughs along the way. I would highly recommend this trip and am already looking at others through this company

Great yoga. On a couple of days we did the yoga immediately after the hike, under a beautiful tree with the sound of the river and another time on the beach with the sound of the waves. The hiking was in beautiful surroundings, some challenging climbs at times. I particularly enjoyed a hike up the river to a waterfall. Great if you like a bit of wild swimming

Yoga and hiking on Evia Island has been a magical experience. Dimitris and Daiana were wonderful, kind and patient guides, full of knowledge. There were so many highlights from swimming at a waterfall to seeing the Dragon Houses at the top of a mountain, to walking among the carpets of wildflowers, and yoga on the beach. The food was excellent. There was so much ease, fun and camaraderie with a group of fabulous people. I will remember Evia for a very long time.

I had never done a curated trip before so when my friend suggested this one, I was on board. Everything was great. Konstas and Diana, our guides and yoga instructor were amazing, so knowledgable and welcoming. The accommodations were simple and nice, the food delicious and everything went super smooth. The hikes were challenging and the twice a day yoga was much appreciated to help with my tired body. As well, I think we lucked out because our group got on so well. Everyone was so amazing and I really feel that I made some great friends. After my first Much Better Adventure I am trying to figure out my next, I'll definitely be doing another!

I can honestly say this is one of the most rejuvenating trips I have been on. Everything was thoughtfully organised from start to finish. Kostas was an amazing guide who was deeply passionate about his surroundings and every hike felt like a journey of connection with nature. As a vegetarian, every meal was fresh, flavourful and with plant based options that never felt like an afterthought. The packed lunches were especially good. The yoga sessions were beautifully led and even though I was a beginner, Daiana created a space that was inclusive and calming. This trip left me feeling completely recharged in beautiful surroundings

I’ve had the most amazing time on this trip. This was my fifth Much Better Adventures trip and my first ever solo adventure, I feel so lucky that I got to spend it with such an awesome group of people.

Kostas was an incredible guide, full of interesting stories and Greek history. Daiana’s yoga sessions were fantastic, the perfect way to start and end each day. We swam in the sea and in beautiful natural pools, hiked through stunning landscapes, and visited a honey farm.

The hotel was great with spacious rooms and an idyllic location. The food provided throughout the trip was delicious and everyone’s dietary requirements were catered for.

Be prepared for full, adventure-packed days with not much downtime (in the best possible way). Some of my highlights were waking up to the sound of goat bells, swimming in the natural pools, and hiking to a secluded beach.

This trip was everything I hoped for and more. Everyone was so kind and supportive, I absolutely loved every part of it and I’m going home full thanks to you all.

An amazing experience in so

An amazing experience in so many ways. We got to see what felt like a secret side of Greece. The hikes were amazing, the yoga was wonderful, the accommodation was perfect and the food was fabulous. Special thanks to Dimitri and Daiana, who did a magnificent job of guiding 13 women around Evia, making sure we had a truly wonderful experience. We came away on such a high, new friends, a deeper understanding of Greece and of course the honey! We needed everything on the kit list, except the earplugs, still not sure what they are for. Maybe if you don’t like the sound of goat bells? Personally I thought they sounded magical. There isn’t much down time on this trip, so don’t expect to be phoning home or answering your emails, but I think that was one of the great things about it, an escape from daily life. Highly recommend to anyone travelling alone or in my case I took my mum, in her 70s and she loved it too.

Fantastic holiday, with friendly and knowledgeable guides. Walks and yoga were memorable. The food was delicious and although the accommodation was idyllic there was a mismatch between beds so that do only one person sharing had a comfortable bed, the other had a futon. Not quite what I expected hence the 4 star review.

What a blissful holiday! A

What a blissful holiday! A beautiful island, welcoming hideaway hotel with stunning views, delicious local food and wine. Feta pie, honey, hummus, scrumptious small pears, salads and always olive oil. The hikes, yoga and swimming were superb and varied. We had many of the locations to ourselves, making it feel even more special. The local people were so friendly and hospitable, one lady even insisting on cutting bunches of grapes for us as we walked past her home. The whole trip was very well-organised and led by friendly, knowledgeable guides Dimitris and Daiana. A shout-out also goes to such a kind and interesting group of fellow travellers. We had so much fun! Particular highlights included getting up close to ancient marble columns in the quarry where they lay abandoned, swimming in natural pools and waking up to goat bells - so relaxing.

Fabulous

Another great trip with MBA ( it was my 4th). Expert guiding from Dimitri and Daina, we were really looked after on a brilliant variety of hikes. The yoga sessions were v inclusive and I especially enjoyed the last one on the beach. The hotel and it's staff were a delight, I'm only sorry we didn't spend a bit more time there with our packed itinerary, but on the plus side I went on the trip expecting to skip one of the hikes and maybe some yoga, but they were so good and the group so fun to be with that I spent less time at the hotel than anticipated! Food excellent throughout, loved eating at local tavernas and at the hotel. A taste of the best of Greece. For folks worried about joining an MBA trip as a solo, make the leap, you won't regret it- I've done solo and with friends and loved all of them.

This was my first time going on a MBA trip, I was very impressed. The guides were truly brilliant, very friendly, patient and attentive. The hiking/ yoga mix was lovely. Each hike was different and we saw lovely parts of the island! Food in particular stood out. Special mention to Mike and Kostos for preparing lunches, they were delicious. The hotel was also beautifully located with amazing views

I really enjoyed this active holiday.

The hiking and yoga were wonderful. The visit to the bee maker Kostos was fun and interesting.

We were with a lovely group of people and Michalis, Konstantinos and Diana were super guides.

The food was yum. The lunch food was the absolute best!

Another well organised trip - my 4th with MBA. A friendly group of like-minded people, excellently guided by Mike and Kostas who accurately assessed our group’s (mixed) abilities and safely escorted us to the top of Mt Ochi in atrocious conditions. Both of them full of local, historical and environmental knowledge and how we enjoyed Kostas’ quizzes as we drove along 🤣. (If you want to earn brownie points, swat up on your Greek gods before the trip). I have never met such helpful, joyous hotel staff and the food was plentiful (although I had had my fill of cheese pie by the end). I can recommend the hotel’s rose wine too. Stunning views, spectacular scenery, glorious sea swims and yoga that was charmingly and knowledgeably led by the beautiful, serene Daiana. I have not enjoyed yoga before but am now a convert. You won’t regret this trip but be aware that the hotel is some distance above the town so it is not possible to stroll out for ice-cream or to a bar. And TAKE WARM LAYERS AND WATERPROOFS - conditions on the top of Mt Ochi easily rivalled Ben Nevis where I had been the previous week, but it has not put me off Greek mountains - I’m signing up for Mt Olympus next 🙂

A lovely time in a beautiful place. The hotel was just perfect; peaceful with amazing views, clean and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Our guides were local and very experienced which meant they were knowledgeable about the walks, the area and of Greece and were also good fun. The gorge walks were in beautiful, unspoilt areas. Take waterproofs for Mount Ochi day in case the clouds are down and or the weather is bad. Yoga was good and based on our group abilities - we did it in the beach one day, which was lovely. A lovely group of people to spend our holiday with.

Despite rainstorms and more chilly weather than was strictly desirable this fantastic trip was something to remember forever. Enjoy a picnic lunch and some downtime at this idyllic spot where you can swim in the natural pools. Wrap up the final miles of an easy-going hike with a visit to an award-winning beekeeping farm, where you’ll discover how fresh organic honey is made. Start your day with a morning yoga session, using stretching and breathing exercises to rejuvenate your body and mind before taking on a bigger hike. Mount Ochi is one of the highest points on Evia and is known as 'the mountain of springs' due to the natural water sources that flow from the mountains throughout the year. You'll set off on a hike through the green and rugged mountainous landscape to reach the summit of Mount Ochi just shy of 4,595 ft above sea level. On the summit of the mountain, you will have the opportunity to explore the best-preserved 'Drakospita' or Dragon Houses of Evia. Drakospita are dwellings built by Ancient Greeks at the top of the mountain, using huge pieces of rock from the area and blessed with 360-degree views over the valley towards the distant blue of the Aegean. Hike back to the trailhead and return to base for some downtime. Join a yoga session to stretch out the limbs after the 4–5 hours of hiking, then unwind with sundowners and dinner at a local taverna tonight.

Gently ease into the day with your morning yoga class overlooking the Aegean, perhaps take a dip in the pool before another sumptuous breakfast at your base before setting off to the area around Dimosaris Gorge on the eastern slopes of Mount Ochi. An incredible trail awaits, winding alongside the river beneath towering peaks. This moderately challenging hike leads you through an evolving landscape to waterfalls and natural pools, perfect for open water swims. This whole area feels really alive, with lush green ferns and wildflowers blanketing the terrain, and the sound of running water ever present as you reach the falls and pools. Settle in with your yoga instructor later in the afternoon before heading to a taverna nearby – if you're not done with swimming yet today you can bring your swimsuit for a dip in the sea before or after dinner.

Head north from your base to the trailhead in the village of Agios Dimitrios. Today’s hike explores one of southern Evia’s most beautiful areas, the Agios Dimitrios Gorge, known for its rich wildflowers, trees, and ever-changing views as you head toward the coast. Your efforts are rewarded as the trail reaches a remote beach only accessible by hiking or a dirt road, with no restaurants or accommodation around. Turquoise waters invite you for a dreamy swim in the Aegean as you soak up this secluded spot with a picnic on the beach and some downtime with less hiking to get through today. Enjoy this memorable spot before heading back to base for a final restorative yoga session. Wrap up the evening with your fellow adventurers, enjoying more delicious Greek and Mediterranean dishes, and perhaps a glass or two of organic wine to toast a perfect day.

FAQs

Absolutely not! This is far from a standard yoga retreat. Don't expect to follow a rigid and strict activity schedule or a restrictive detoxing diet. This adventure was designed for people who practice and love yoga, or who are just curious about it and want to experience the amazing benefits it brings for the first time. But it’s also fun, with plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding nature trails on foot, and enjoy delicious food and wine, all in the company of like-minded people. Relaxing and not taking yourself too seriously is kind of mandatory here!

The sessions will be based around Ashtanga – a dynamic form of yoga characterised by a fixed sequence of postures which are performed in a specific order, with a focus on breath coordination and movement. Your experienced instructor will guide you through the sessions and combine the yoga with guided meditations to complement the body and mind elements of the practice. Ideal for relaxing after a hike, and to recover the body and energy for the next day.

The tap water on Evia Island is safe to drink, so you can freely fill up at your hotel base throughout the trip. Make sure to bring along a water bottle with 1-2 liters of carrying capacity to ensure you have water in your daypack for each of the hikes.

At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive, and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location, and lodging, and in some places, options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully before your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.

Once you have booked your trip, please fill out your passenger information form ASAP with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.

BACKGROUND

Greek food has been shaped by centuries of home cooking, Orthodox fasting traditions, and a climate that favors olives, vegetables, and legumes. Long stretches without meat or dairy have led to a brilliant variety of plant-based dishes, many of which are still everyday staples. Meals tend to be simple, seasonal, and centered around olive oil, with pulses, grains, and vegetables doing the heavy lifting. Meals are often eaten in the traditional Greek way, ordering a selection of dishes that are shared between the group. It’s a great destination for vegetarians, vegans, and the lactose-free. If you're gluten-free or have more specific allergies, you'll still find options but just be ready to explain your needs clearly, especially in smaller or more remote tavernas (your guide will help you with this).

SPECIAL DIETS

Vegetarian
-Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Greek cuisine offers a wide range of excellent vegetarian options such as Greek salad, fava (yellow split pea purée), dolmades (vine leaves stuffed with rice and herbs), spanakopita (spinach pie), gemista (stuffed peppers and tomatoes), gigantes (baked giant beans), grilled vegetables, and a variety of mezze.

Vegan
-Vegan diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Vegan-friendly dishes may include lentil soup (fakes), gigantes beans, briam (roasted mixed vegetables), okra in tomato sauce, stuffed vine leaves, horta (boiled wild greens), salads, and many vegetable-based mezze prepared with olive oil and herbs.

Kosher
-Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are rare and usually cannot be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.

Halal
-Certified Halal supply varies by location and is often not possible. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.

INTOLERANCES

Gluten-Free (for Celiac, please see Allergies section below)
-Gluten-Free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. However, options will be more limited than for those without dietary requirements. While many Greek dishes are naturally gluten-free (such as grilled meats, fish, salads, vegetables, and legumes), bread and pastry are common at meals, and awareness of cross-contamination can vary. While your local hosts will do their best, it’s worth knowing that gluten-free specialist supplies are generally only available in Athens. In more remote areas, it's not possible to source specialist products, so meals will be based on naturally gluten-free dishes rather than substitutes. We recommend bringing some of your own snacks or supplements, especially when traveling in more rural regions.

Lactose-Free
-Lactose-Free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. While dairy (particularly feta and yogurt) features prominently in Greek cuisine, many traditional dishes are naturally lactose-free or can be prepared without dairy, including grilled meats or fish, vegetable stews, legumes, salads, rice dishes, and mezze based on olive oil, lemon, and herbs rather than cheese or yogurt. Nonetheless, we recommend bringing some of your own snacks or supplements, especially when traveling in more rural regions.

ALLERGIES

Your host has confirmed that they are able to accommodate mild allergies to the 14 allergens identified by the UK Food Standards Agency, where these are disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy, please get in touch with our CX team before booking to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip. This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip, and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority. Please note that when traveling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods, and labeling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. While your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.

Your host has been operating trips on Evia Island for many years, so if conditions aren't suitable for any of the day hikes you'll head to an alternative part of the island for a replacement hike. We don't run this trip during the peak summer months of July and August when Evia can get uncomfortably hot, indeed there have been wildfires on Evia during these months in the recent past. As such extreme heat shouldn't be a factor, however, unexpected heatwaves can occur and your host will factor this into any Plan B considerations.

There will be one lead hiking guide and expert yoga instructors for each of the yoga sessions.

This trip has a single base throughout, so you can leave your luggage in your room the whole time and take a daypack out on each day hike.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.

Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers review the practical information available on the UK Government’s FCDO website, where you can find up-to-date advice by searching for your destination(s).

If you are based in the United States, you can also check the latest travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State.

For customers joining from other international locations, we recommend checking the official travel advice issued by your country of residence, as guidance may vary.

We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates daily, so prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.

You're always in good company on one of our adventures.

Our trips typically consist of a mix of solo travelers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.

Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves, and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.

It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.

Don't just take our word for it:

  • 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
  • 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
  • 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends

Evia Island enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate. The spring months of April and May have pleasant temperatures with increasing warmth and longer daylight hours. During these months expect average lows around 61°F and highs up to 73°F and around 10-11 hours of sunshine per day. Sea temperature is around 63°F in April, warming to 66°F in May.

The late summer and early fall months of September and October are also excellent times to visit Evia for great weather and lower visitor numbers. September has average lows of around 68°F and highs up to 86°F, with things cooling off in October with lows of 61°F and highs up to 68°F. Sea temperatures are beautiful for swimming at 75°F in September and 72°F in October.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 139kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
