Touch down at Tbilisi International Airport, where a private transfer whisks you to your boutique hotel in the heart of the city. While transfers run all day, we recommend arriving by early afternoon to soak up a bit of Georgia’s captivating capital. Once you’re settled, meet your guide and fellow travelers for a quick briefing before heading out for a relaxed walking tour through Tbilisi’s old town – wander past carved balconies, leafy courtyards and tucked-away wine bars. Visit the 13th-century Metekhi Church, then ride the cable car to the ancient Narikala Fortress for panoramic views over the city and river below. This evening, dive into your first taste of Georgian hospitality with a welcome dinner at a local restaurant, where you’ll sample classic dishes and bold flavors. You’ll spend the night in comfort at a stylish 4-star hotel before heading into the wild Caucasus Mountains tomorrow.

Then it’s into the heart of Kakheti for a leisurely lunch and wine tasting at a local vineyard, where you’ll try Georgian wine made using the qvevri method – buried clay vessels to ferment and store wine naturally. In the afternoon, stroll through sun-drenched vines from Mosmieri to Kondoli Winery, where you’ll dive deeper into Georgia’s 8,000-year-old winemaking heritage. Then, check into your Standout Stay of the trip, Qvevrebi Hotel – a boutique wine retreat, where each room is shaped like a giant qvevri clay vessel. Trip level explained

Level 1

Easy

This trip is for those with a sense of adventure and a love for the outdoors, combining activities (you’ll be on the move for around 2-4 hours each day) with plenty of chances to rest and refuel. If you don’t exercise regularly, we recommend some light training beforehand to ensure you get the most out of the experience.

While hiking in the Caucasus Mountains, you’ll follow a mix of paved tracks, mountain trails and dirt roads. Some sections are rolling and include short, steep ascents that will get your heart pumping, but the pace is leisurely, with plenty of stops to take in the views.

The e-bike ride will be along hilly, paved roads but the e-bikes provide motor assistance to help with the inclines. No prior experience is required, though you should feel comfortable riding a bike.

There’s also a gentle horse ride suitable for beginners who have not ridden before. The horse handlers and your guide will be with you throughout to support and assist you.

What if i need to skip an activity?

Any of the activities can be skipped, please speak to your guide locally if you wish to opt out of any of the included excursions.

What will I need to carry?

You will only need to carry a day pack with personal items such as food, water, and extra layers during any of the activities. A vehicle will be with you for the duration of the trip, so any excess luggage or things not needed for the activity can be left at the hotels where you stay overnight.

Remote environment: factors to consider

Some parts of this trip take place in areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited. This may mean that reaching medical care takes longer than you might normally expect, or that local medical facilities have fewer resources than those you may be used to at home.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, initial treatment may be provided locally before onward travel to a larger hospital or city for further care. Evacuation could involve changing the planned route or using different forms of transportation to reach appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may also be intermittent in some locations.

Your guide is trained to manage situations in remote environments and will monitor the group and respond appropriately if any issues arise. However, it’s important that you let your guide know straight away if you feel unwell or experience any health concerns during the trip.

Before booking, consider your personal health and ability to travel in locations where access to medical care may be delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before traveling.

All travelers must have suitable travel insurance that covers the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation if required.

FAQs

Should external factors (such as severe weather conditions) cause alterations to what is possible, then the ordering of the above itinerary, activity inclusions and durations and/or the exact number of days spent in each location may have to change. The local host will endeavor to ensure that any replacement activities are of a similar style.

You'll be accompanied by one qualified, English-speaking local guide throughout the trip (up to 12 people per group). During the e-bike ride, a support vehicle will follow to provide assistance or give you the option to cut the ride short if needed.

Tap water in Georgia is not safe to drink, so please avoid refilling bottles directly from the tap. Some accommodations provide purified water each morning, so it’s a good idea to bring one or two reusable water bottles. To reduce plastic waste where filtered water isn’t available, we recommend bringing water purification tablets or a personal purification system. Whenever possible, your host will also supply filtered water tanks during transfers or before activities.

You'll be riding a specialized Turbo Levo Alloy, a high-quality, battery-assisted e-bike designed to make pedaling easier, particularly on hills. The routes follow winding, paved roads, but the e-bike's motor offers a helpful boost when needed. No prior e-bike experience is necessary, though you should be comfortable cycling on roads.

BACKGROUND

Georgian cuisine is deeply shaped by the country’s position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, where centuries of trade and a fertile agricultural landscape have produced a rich and distinctive food culture. Meals are generous and communal, typically featuring bread, cheese, walnut-based sauces, grilled meats, beans, and seasonal vegetables, with wine playing a central cultural role. Vegetarian and vegan diets can be very well accommodated, with a wide variety of plant-based dishes available throughout the country. Travelers with less common dietary requirements should expect more limited awareness outside cities and tourist areas, though guides can help communicate needs to local hosts.

SPECIAL DIETS Vegetarian -Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. While many traditional Georgian dishes are often centered around meat, vegetarian requirements can generally be accommodated and there is still a wide variety of suitable and flavorful options available.

Georgian cuisine offers a rich selection of naturally vegetarian dishes, including Lobio (slow-cooked beans with herbs and spices), Badrijani Nigvzit (eggplant with walnut paste), fresh seasonal salads, cheese varieties, baked breads, and an assortment of vegetable dishes prepared with walnuts, garlic, and aromatic herbs. Many dishes are either vegetarian by nature or can be adapted upon request.

Restaurants are happy to make adjustments where possible to suit dietary needs. However, in more rural areas, vegetarian choices may be more limited, and menus can be simpler or less varied compared to larger cities. Packed lunches are carefully prepared in advance and can be arranged to suit vegetarian preferences if requested. They typically include a selection of fresh, locally sourced items such as bread, cheese, vegetables, fruit, and other simple, nourishing components, ensuring convenient and satisfying options.

Vegan -Vegan diets are difficult to cater for on this trip. While your host will do their best to meet these requirements, please be aware that the required produce and ingredients are not abundant in this destination and you may find the food provided repetitive.

Georgian cuisine does include some naturally plant-based elements such as vegetables, beans, fresh salads, bread, and walnut-based preparations. However, the frequent use of cheese, butter, and other dairy products in traditional cooking means that suitable alternatives are limited and often require careful adaptation.

Restaurants may be able to make adjustments where possible, but vegan-friendly options are not widely established and can be particularly limited outside larger cities. In rural areas, meal choices tend to be simpler, with less variety and fewer reliable plant-based protein sources. Packed lunches are prepared in advance and can be arranged with vegan requirements when clearly advised. They typically include basic items such as bread, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and other simple provisions, though variety and balance may be more limited compared to other dietary preferences.

Please do consider bringing your favorite snacks or food supplements from home to ensure that you always have enough fuel for your adventure.

Kosher -Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are rare and usually cannot be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.

Halal -Certified Halal supply varies by destination and may not always be possible. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.

INTOLERANCES

Gluten Free -Gluten-free diets are difficult to cater for on this trip. While your host will do their best to meet these requirements, please be aware that the required produce and ingredients are not abundant in this destination, and you may find the food provided repetitive.

Georgian cuisine includes a number of naturally gluten-free dishes such as grilled meats, vegetable stews, fresh salads, beans, cheese, and walnut-based dishes. However, bread and wheat-based products are a staple of the local diet and cross-contamination may be difficult to fully avoid due to shared kitchen environments.

Restaurants and hosts are usually able to adapt meals where possible, especially in larger towns and cities. In more rural areas, choices may be simpler and less varied, but suitable alternatives can still be provided with advance notice. Packed lunches can also be prepared with gluten-free requirements when clearly communicated in advance, typically including items such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, nuts, and other naturally gluten-free components.

Please do consider bringing your favorite snacks or food supplements from home to ensure that you always have enough fuel for your adventure.

Lactose Free -Lactose-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Georgian cuisine includes several naturally lactose-free dishes such as grilled meats, vegetable stews, fresh salads, beans, bread (unless buttered), and walnut-based preparations. However, dairy products such as cheese, butter, and sour cream are widely used in traditional cooking, so care is needed when selecting suitable dishes.

Restaurants and hosts are usually able to adapt meals where possible, particularly in larger towns and cities. In more rural areas, lactose-free choices may be more limited and menus can be simpler, but suitable options can still be arranged with advance notice.

Packed lunches can also be prepared with lactose-free requirements when clearly communicated in advance, typically including items such as fruit, vegetables, nuts, bread, and other naturally lactose-free components.

ALLERGIES

Our host has confirmed that they are able to accommodate mild allergies to the 14 allergens identified by the UK Food Standards Agency, where these are disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy, please get in touch with our Customer Experience team before booking to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip. This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip, and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority.

Please note that when traveling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods, and labeling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. While your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.

Add any specific limitations or important details here: Walnuts and other nuts are commonly used ingredients in Georgian cuisine, particularly in traditional dishes, sauces, and pastes, and are an important part of the local food culture. Allergies involving nuts can therefore be accommodated where clearly communicated in advance, and alternative options will be considered where possible.

Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers review the practical information available on the UK Government’s FCDO website, where you can find up-to-date advice by searching for your destination(s).

If you are based in the United States, you can also check the latest travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State.

For customers joining from other international locations, we recommend checking the official travel advice issued by your country of residence, as guidance may vary.

We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates daily, so prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

Average summer temperatures in Georgia typically range from 77–95°F in the lower valleys. However, it’s noticeably cooler on the plateaus and high in the mountains, especially when exposed to wind. Mountain weather is famously unpredictable, so it’s essential to pack wet weather gear and layers to adjust your temperature as needed. Dry, sunny days are common (sun protection is important), and while rain is rare at this time of year, it can still occur.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 341kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
