Day 1
Welcome to Casablanca
HotelTwin shareDinner includedShow Day 1 detailHide detail
Welcome to Morocco! Your journey begins in Morocco's busiest city: Casablanca. Arrival transfers are available at set times from Casablanca Airport to transfer you to your hotel; see the Getting There section for more details. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a local Moroccan restaurant and have a chat through the adventure to come with your tour leader and fellow adventurers.
Day 2
To Chefchaouen, the 'Blue City'
Driving5 hrsHiking2 hrs · 2miRiadTwin shareBreakfast includedShow Day 2 detailHide detail
Leave Casablanca behind after breakfast as you settle in for the road trip to Chefchaouen, the famous ‘Blue City’ and one of Morocco's most iconic locations. This afternoon, you're free to eat lunch and dinner where you please as you explore the winding cobblestone streets, surrounded by cobalt-hued walls dotted with tiny local craft shops. This evening, your host will take you on a hike up to the Spanish Mosque for amazing sunset views of the blue town nestled on the hillside and cradled by the Rif Mountains.
Day 3
Explore Talassemtane National Park
Hiking2 hrs · 3mi · 656ft up · 656ft downRiadTwin shareBreakfast includedShow Day 3 detailHide detail
Today, head into Talassemtane National Park for a scenic hike along forest trails and open ridgelines with your guide, following well-marked paths through pine and cedar woodland with gentle elevation gain and wide views across the Rif Mountains. This route keeps the remote feel of the region, while still remaining accessible for a range of fitness levels. You'll be back in Chefchaouen by lunchtime and have the rest of the day free to explore the city further. Your guide will recommend the best places to try local dishes for lunch and dinner.
Day 4
Ruins, ridge trails & olive country
Driving5 hrsHiking2 hrs · 2mi · 656ft up · 656ft downRiadTwin shareBreakfast includedShow Day 4 detailHide detail
Trade blue alleyways for open horizons as you head south into rolling olive country. Your first stop: the vast, cinematic ruins of Volubilis. Roam between toppled columns and intricate mosaics while your guide unpacks the Roman-Berber frontier story. With the Zerhoun hills as your backdrop, this feels like an open-air expedition site rather than a museum. From here, lace up for a short ridge hike towards Moulay Idriss Zerhoun. The trail climbs steadily through olive groves to panoramic viewpoints over the twin-peaked holy town. Descend into the medina for a well-earned lunch at a local restaurant followed by time to explore the narrow lanes and hilltop lookouts. Next, dive into Morocco’s olive heartland with a stop at a local cooperative in the Zerhoun region. See the pressing process up close and sample freshly milled oils – grassy, peppery, intensely local. Arrive in Fes by late afternoon and check into your riad, followed by a free evening so you can grab dinner where you please.
Day 5
Into the heart of the Medina in Fes
RiadTwin shareBreakfast and dinner includedShow Day 5 detailHide detail
Meet your local guide and dive straight into the energy of Fes, Morocco’s cultural capital, on a walking tour of the old town. Enter through Bab Boujloud and explore the maze-like medina: artisan workshops, spice-scented souks, and the iconic Chouara Tannery, where leather is still dyed using centuries-old techniques. Pause at a rooftop viewpoint for panoramic views over the ancient city before enjoying some free time to explore and get lunch at your own pace. In the late afternoon, head to a local family home in the medina for a hands-on cooking class and dinner. Learn to prepare classic Fassi dishes, share stories in the kitchen, and sit down together to enjoy the meal you’ve created. An intimate, authentic way to experience Moroccan hospitality – and a perfect shared moment with your group.
Day 6
Road trip into the Sahara
Driving9 hrsHiking1 hr · 1miDesert CampTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 6 detailHide detail
Today features an epic road trip south as Morocco shifts from forested mountains to desert plains. Leave Fes behind and cross the Middle Atlas, passing cedar forests and high plateaus before stopping for a picnic near Midelt for lunch. Continue through the Ziz Valley, pausing to take in its vast palm oasis, then travel on to Merzouga, where the dunes of Erg Chebbi rise on the horizon. Transfer by 4x4 to your desert camp and head out for a short dune climb at sunset, with wide views across the Sahara Desert. As night falls, enjoy dinner under the stars. With almost no light pollution, the Sahara offers exceptional stargazing. Lying back on rugs beneath the vast desert sky, admire thousands of stars, the bright band of the Milky Way, and sometimes even shooting stars or visible planets – a truly unforgettable desert experience.
Day 7
From the Sahara to Boutaghrar
Driving5 hrsHiking2 hrs · 3mi · 164ft up · 164ft downHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 7 detailHide detail
Wake early to experience the desert at its quietest, heading out onto the dunes of Erg Chebbi for a gentle walk or an optional sandboarding session on the cool morning sand (payable locally; MAD 250). After breakfast, travel by 4x4 back to Merzouga and continue west, stopping for an included lunch en route to Tinghir before the landscape shifts from desert plains to green river valleys. Arrive in the village of Boutaghrar and settle into your guesthouse overlooking the valley, then head out for a relaxed walk through rose fields, riverbeds, and mud-brick villages, where you may see the Damask rose harvest in spring. Later, visit a small rose distillery to learn about traditional production methods, before returning for dinner at the guesthouse with views across the valley.
Day 8
Hiking in the Valley of Roses
Hiking4 hrs · 9mi · 492ft up · 492ft downHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 8 detailHide detail
Today brings a scenic hike through the heart of the Valley of Roses. Follow ancient footpaths between terraced fields, river crossings, and small Berber villages built from earth and stone. Climb gradually to a panoramic viewpoint over the valley, where green fields contrast with the red mountains beyond. This is a quieter, more intimate alternative to the dramatic but crowded Todra Gorge. Midway through the walk, stop in a village to dive into a bread-making experience with local women, learning how traditional flatbread is baked in clay ovens. Return to Boutaghrar in the afternoon and have lunch at the guesthouse, before a relaxing afternoon enjoying views of the valley. In the evening, you'll have dinner followed by a visit to a local hammam – simple, authentic, and shared with residents – offering genuine insight into daily Moroccan life.
Day 9
To Marrakech via the High Atlas
Driving7 hrsRiadTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 9 detailHide detail
Leave the Valley of Roses behind and head north towards Marrakech, climbing gradually into the High Atlas. Before crossing the mountains, stop at a rural women’s cooperative near Ouarzazate, where traditional food production supports local livelihoods. Join a hands-on session preparing spice blends and couscous, then sit down for a simple home-cooked lunch with the women. Continue over the Tizi n'Tichka to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon and checking into your riad. In the evening, head into the medina for a short guided walk through the souks to Jemaa el-Fnaa at sunset, before gathering for a final dinner together.
Day 10
Farewell, Morocco
Breakfast includedShow Day 10 detailHide detail

If your flight is not until the evening, you can spend more time in Marrakech with an optional guided tour (payable locally; MAD 375 per person), exploring the souks and quieter streets, visiting Bahia Palace and Medersa Ben Youssef, and stopping for mint tea along the way. You will then have free time for lunch, before an afternoon transfer from the hotel to the airport mid-afternoon.

What's not included
Our trips do not include flights, trains or other travel to the start point and back from the end point.
There are four lunches and three dinners which are not included on the trip – always while you're in a city with plenty of dining options – to allow you a wider choice of meals, and so that you can explore some local restaurants. We recommend that you budget 120-150 MAD per meal which is not included.
Tips are not included in the trip cost. These are entirely at your discretion but there is an expectation to tip for good service. Your host will help with advice, however we suggest the below as a guideline per person:
- 50 MAD per person, per day for activity guides, hotel and waiting staff etc.
- 40-70 MAD per person, per day for your main guide
- 20-40 MAD per person, per day for your driver
Of course, you are free to tip more or less, and the amount should be reflective of your perception of service and quality – a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service.
You have the option to take part in sandboarding on the morning of Day 7 before you depart the Sahara. This is payable locally, and costs 250 MAD.
If your flight isn't until the evening on Day 10, you also have the option of joining a locally guided tour of Marrakech, visiting the medina, souks, Bahia Palace, Medersa Ben Youssef and stopping for Moroccan mint tea. This is payable locally, and costs 375 MAD per person.
You know your own spending habits best, so please budget an appropriate amount for things like optional food and drinks, shopping and laundry.
Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures, and you'll need to provide your policy details before departure. Your insurance should offer adequate coverage for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and gear, and the specific activities involved in your adventure. We also recommend ensuring your policy includes cancellation and curtailment coverage, in case you're unable to join your trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness.
Standard travel insurance may not cover all the activities included in your adventure, so it's essential to check the details carefully. There are adventure-specific providers that many travelers have used in the past, such as True Traveller (opens in new tab) (for those based in the UK or Europe), or Rise + Shield (opens in new tab), both of which offer coverage for a wide range of adventurous activities.
Please make sure your chosen policy meets your individual needs and covers all aspects of your trip.
Visa requirements often change, and you are responsible for obtaining any required visas for this trip. Please check with your nearest embassy or consulate for up-to-date advice.

FAQs
What if things don't go to plan?
Plans can change, and this trip covers a large and varied part of Morocco, from mountains and cities to desert and valleys. Weather and local conditions can shift, particularly in the Atlas Mountains and desert regions, which may affect how parts of the itinerary run. If needed, your local host may adjust the order of activities, timings or specific locations to keep things running smoothly. Any changes will be made with your safety and overall experience in mind, and alternatives of a similar style will be arranged wherever possible. Your guide will keep you informed of any significant updates, and a flexible approach will help you get the most out of the journey.
How many guides and support crew will there be on my trip?
Your trip will be led by a local, English-speaking guide for the duration of the itinerary. You will also have local, specialist guides in Fes, Volubilis, and in Marrakech if you choose to take part in the additional optional guided activities there. A separate driver will accompany the group for the duration of the trip.
Can I leave my excess baggage somewhere?
As this trip starts in one city and ends in another, it's not logistically suitable to leave your luggage in Casablanca at the beginning. The tour vehicle will transport your luggage between each point of the trip.
What do I do about drinking water?
Tap water in Morocco is not safe to drink for travelers. Your host will provide 5-liter bottles of water, from which you can fill your personal reusable water bottles. Your guide will endeavor to recycle or reuse these 5-liter bottles wherever possible. You may also wish to bring a water filter, purification tablets, or a UV sterilizer to give more flexibility around where you can get water from.
Can my dietary requirements be accommodated on this adventure?
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive, and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location, and lodging, and in some places, options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully before your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.
Once you have booked your trip, please fill out your passenger information form asap with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.
BACKGROUND
Moroccan cuisine reflects a blend of Berber, Arab, and Mediterranean influences, shaped by trade routes and a varied climate, resulting in aromatic, slow-cooked dishes built around spices, grains, pulses, and seasonal produce. Meals are often communal, with tagines, couscous, and bread forming the core. Travelers with dietary requirements can usually find suitable options, particularly for vegetarian or dairy-free diets, though dishes can be meat-led and ingredients are not always clearly listed. With a guide on hand, communication is easier, but it helps to plan ahead and be clear about needs, especially in smaller towns.
SPECIAL DIETS

Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are rare and usually cannot be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
Halal
Halal diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance.
INTOLERANCES
Gluten-free (for Celiac, please see Allergies section below)
Gluten-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance.
Lactose-free
Lactose-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance.
ALLERGIES
Our host has confirmed that they are able to accommodate mild allergies to the 14 allergens identified by the UK Food Standards Agency, where these are disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy, please get in touch with our Customer Experience team before booking, to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip. This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip, and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority. Please note that when traveling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods, and labeling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. While your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.
How will Ramadan affect my vacation in Morocco?
Ramadan is an Islamic festival where the religious do not eat or drink during daylight hours. While this is a really interesting time to travel, especially to witness celebrations where the fast is broken in the evenings, you can expect some business hours will be shortened, alcohol is not permitted during daylight hours, and some restaurants will be closed during this festival period. Activities for local people tend to be limited during the day, and the nights are very active in cities with lots of different foods being sold and consumed. Ramadan will not affect the inclusions on your trip, although you should be aware that dinners will be served after locals break their fast in the evenings.
As Ramadan follows the lunar calendar, the dates change from year to year. We recommend checking whether your chosen trip dates fall during this period.
Is this trip for me?
This trip covers the varied cities, deserts, and mountain villages that make up Morocco all in one trip. You'll see beautiful views, interact with locals, and explore destinations you'd struggle to get to on your own. A lot of people love this style of travel, but it does mean some long travel days and repacking your bag every couple of days, which suits some travelers more than others. If you're happy with a fast-paced itinerary and don't mind living out of a suitcase, you'll get a lot out of it.
Can I book on my own?
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Who is running the trip?
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers review the practical information available on the UK Government’s FCDO website, where you can find up-to-date advice by searching for your destination(s).
If you are based in the United States, you can also check the latest travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State.
For customers joining from other international locations, we recommend checking the official travel advice issued by your country of residence, as guidance may vary.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates daily, so prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
Why are your adventures only for adults?
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
Who else will be on my trip?
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips typically consist of a mix of solo travelers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves, and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.
Don't just take our word for it:
- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends
See here for more info about the Much Better Adventures tribe.
What's the weather like?
The weather on this trip can vary drastically across the itinerary, so it's important to be prepared depending on the time of year you visit.
November to February sees daytime highs typically remaining below 68°F in the northern cities and Marrakech. Nighttime temperatures can get as low as 41°F, so bring warm layers and a jacket. Rain is possible, mainly in the north and mountains, but is usually short-lived. In the Sahara, temperatures remain similar during the day, but can drop even colder at night.
April, May, September, and October typically have highs in the high 70s/low 80s (°F) in the cities, and it can still get chilly in the evening, so it's worth packing layers. In the Sahara, it is much warmer during these months, with temperatures reaching around 95°F, so come prepared for the warmer weather.
June to August sees much higher temperatures across the cities and Sahara, and we do not typically run trips during this time as a result.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 142kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
