    Annapurna Circuit

During the trek you'll stay in traditional teahouses. These are simple mountain lodges offering basic but welcoming lodging along the trekking routes. The higher you go, the more rustic the facilities become — and the pricier the snacks.

Rooms are typically twin-share, or occasionally triple-share and have simple beds, a mattress and pillow, but no heating — so a warm sleeping bag is essential. Earplugs are handy too, as sound tends to travel.

Bathrooms are shared, with one or two basic toilets — sometimes outside — ranging from squat-style to seated. Toilet paper is not provided, so bring your own. Most teahouses sell essentials such as toilet paper, tissues, soap, shampoo and snacks.

Some lodges offer hot showers for a small fee — these might be solar or gas-powered, or simply a bucket of hot water. All teahouses have electricity, usually solar-powered, though it can be patchy. Lighting may be too dim to read by, so bring a headlamp. Charging is typically available in the dining area for a small fee per device. Many lodges offer Wi-Fi, but it’s not always reliable.

Communal dining rooms are the cozy heart of the teahouse — a spot to gather, play cards or warm up with a hot drink. They’re typically colorful spaces, often decorated with traditional rugs and warmed by a central stove. Above 10,000ft, some lodges may not use stoves due to environmental rules.

Food and Dietary info

Breakfast is usually either hot oatmeal, muesli or Tibetan bread served with an omelet or boiled eggs. The menus in the teahouses are very similar at every stop and there will usually be a choice of traditional Nepalese dhal bhat (a mixed plate of lentils, rice, vegetables and pickles – delicious and healthy!), momos (Nepalese dumplings), mixed noodles, pasta and even pizza. Although meat is available at some teahouses, we suggest you ask your guide for their advice, as it tends to depend on how far it has traveled as to whether it is a safe option.

Trip level explained

Level 5

Challenging

Much of this trek is within the capabilities of people with good fitness who are keen trekkers. Still, it is important to note that trekking at altitudes above 10,000 ft is more demanding on the body than walking at low elevations.

Some training beforehand will help and we advise doing at least one weekend of back-to-back days walking. The guide will set the pace and as with all altitude treks, the theme is ‘slowly slowly’ to help you adjust to the altitude.

What will I need to carry?

This trip includes one porter for every two trekkers. They will carry up to 44-55 lbs of gear so your overnight bags and spare clothes will be transported for you (maximum 26 lbs per person). You will only need to carry a daypack with essentials (extra layer, snacks, water, sunscreen, camera, etc).

High altitude (over 14,765 ft): factors to consider

This trip reaches elevations above 14,765ft, where the risks associated with Altitude Sickness (AMS) are higher, and where more serious conditions like HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema) can occur.

Previous high-altitude experience doesn’t guarantee the same reaction every time, but it can be a helpful indicator. It gives you insight into how your body might respond, helps you recognize symptoms early, and prepares you mentally and physically for the demands of high-altitude trekking.

Your guide is trained to manage altitude risk by carefully managing the rate of ascent, monitoring group well-being, and taking action if anyone becomes unwell.

Before traveling, think about your own physical condition and consult a medical professional if you have concerns—especially if you have underlying health issues. If possible, arriving a day or two early at altitude is a great way to help your body adjust.

Your travel insurance must cover the maximum altitude reached on this trip and include emergency evacuation.

Highly Remote Environments: Factors to Consider

This trip travels through very remote areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited and evacuation may take a significant amount of time. In some locations, medical facilities may provide only basic treatment, and further travel may be required to reach a hospital capable of providing more advanced care.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, evacuation may involve multiple stages and different forms of transportation before reaching appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may be unreliable for significant portions of this trip and communication may rely on satellite devices carried by your guides.

Your guides are trained and experienced in operating in remote environments and will manage the group carefully throughout the journey. However, due to the remoteness of these locations, access to external support may be limited and delays to medical care should be expected.

Before booking, consider your personal health and comfort traveling in locations where medical care and evacuation options may be limited or delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we strongly recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before traveling. If you have a medical condition that may require rapid access to specialist care, regular monitoring, or emergency treatment, this type of remote travel may not be suitable without careful planning and medical advice.

Your travel insurance must cover the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation.

The Annapurna Circuit was an unforgettable experience, not only because of the awe-inspiring scenery but, most importantly, because of the incredible people who made the journey so special. The landscapes were breathtaking at every turn—towering mountains, dramatic valleys, and some of the most spectacular views I have ever seen. However, what truly made this trip deserve five stars was the warmth, kindness, and professionalism of the team that guided us through it. Our lead guide, Krishna, was exceptional. He led the entire team with confidence, care, and an excellent sense of humour that kept spirits high throughout the trek. He was always attentive to the needs of the group, ensuring everyone felt supported and included every step of the way. The assistant guides, Santosh, Aananta, and Kuruna, were equally outstanding. Each of them went far above and beyond what was expected, demonstrating remarkable dedication, professionalism, and hard work every single day. Their commitment to making the experience enjoyable, safe, and memorable never went unnoticed. I would also like to give special appreciation to the porter team. They carried far more than any of us while navigating the same challenging terrain, and they did it with smiles, positivity, and incredible determination. Their contribution was immense and deserves the highest respect. Throughout the trek, the entire team welcomed us with genuine kindness and generosity, sharing not only their expertise but also a glimpse into their homes, culture, and way of life. Their hospitality added a deeply personal dimension to the adventure that I will always remember. This was an extraordinary journey made possible by an extraordinary team. Thank you, Krishna, Santosh, Aananta, Kuruna, and all the porters for your professionalism, dedication, kindness, and hard work. You made an amazing trek truly exceptional.

I expected the Himalayas to offer challenges and beauty, and this more than lived up to anything I might imagine. Above and beyond this however, were Krishna and his team at Freedom Adventures, including Santosh, Ananta and Kuruna, who truly went above and beyond to ensure our group were well looked after and supported, through the various stages and always with good humour. Having been on other expeditions around the world I do not take this element for granted, and would urge anything considering the trek to feel assured when travelling with Krishna. From scaling 5000m to a frozen ice lake, to seeing yaks in the mountain valleys, eating dal bhat with good friends, and spotting new peaks emerging at sunrise each day, and relaxing at Pokhara after the exhilarating descent from Thorong La, I will treasure the memories for a lifetime. I'd recommend travellers to pack warm for the high sections, and not underestimate the cold, nor the level of fitness required. Some familiarisation with high altitudes would also be helpful as even the fittest may experience Acute Mountain Sickness. Good hydration is key!

It is not an easy trek, with altitude creating serious risks, but I was rewarded with incredible views of the mountains everyday!

  • Andrew S.

I had the best time. I was in a a group with like minded people and we bonded very quickly. The tour had spectacular views and I was excited to begin every day. The guides looked after us very well! Krishna was very good at accommodating for all our needs!

This trip was truly unforgettable! The landscapes were incredible and the people made it even more special. Our team, led by Tika and supported by assistant guides Resam, Birdhoj, and Nir, along with the porters, were exceptional. Their care, professionalism and commitment to our safety were outstanding from start to finish. Everything was well organised and we always felt completely at ease in the hands of such an experienced and supportive team. The itinerary was well paced, which helped minimise altitude sickness, and they handled difficult itinerary changes due to heavy snow with professionalism, expertise and calmness. Would highly recommend! Also pack plenty of sun cream and bring sunglasses or ski goggles for the high mountain sections!

I had the most incredible time trekking the Annapurna Circuit with MBA. The views were breathtaking always, but what I didn’t expect was how varied they would be throughout the journey. From valleys and lush green forests, to rocky passes and snow-covered mountains, “wow” was the most common word of the trip. MBA sorted everything from the moment I arrived, and the guides and porters were second to none. Special mentions to Krishna, Santosh, Aananta and Kuruna who safely and expertly guided everyone throughout the journey - and answered all of our questions, no matter how silly! The porters were also excellent and quick to offer assistance if any of the group were struggling. A special mention to Raju who went above and beyond repeatedly. This was truly the trip of a lifetime. If you’re looking for incredible views, a reliable and friendly team, and to meet likeminded people then this is it. I promise you won’t regret it. Thank you MBA and the whole team!

This Annapurna Circuit trek with Much Better Adventures was one of the most physically and mentally challenging experiences I’ve taken on (and also one of the most rewarding!). What truly made the trip exceptional, though, was the team. Our lead guide, Krishna, along with assistant guides Santosh, Aananta, and Kuruna, and our porters Raju, Balkrishna Surya, Sujan, Rabin, and Kudan, were simply outstanding. Krishna set the tone for the entire experience. Calm, steady, and deeply experienced, he made us feel safe and confident every step of the way. His leadership created an environment where we could push ourselves while knowing we were in incredibly capable hands, and his care for both the group and his team was evident throughout. Santosh and Aananta were both exceptional throughout the trek. Consistently attentive, thoughtful, and deeply in tune with the group. They set a great pace, kept spirits high, and struck such a strong balance of professionalism and warmth. Their presence made a real difference on a trek like this and I hope to see them leading trips of their own in the future. The entire team worked seamlessly together, always one step ahead of our needs and bringing levity to what was a beautiful yet demanding couple of weeks. The porters carried the heaviest load, both literally and figuratively! We could not have done the trek without them. Their strength, kindness, and constant positivity never went unnoticed. Raju was especially present and helpful on the trail outside of his porter responsibilities. The team’s dedication made it possible for us to focus on the experience itself. I genuinely wouldn’t have been able to complete this trek without them or the awesome group of individuals we had. The trek itself was epic and the circuit provides such diverse landscape day to day. And the mountain views!! If you’re considering this adventure, know that you’ll be in incredibly capable hands and meet some amazing people.

We recently completed the Annapurna Circuit trek, and we are very happy with organizing team and our guides. From day one, the entire trip was handled with professionalism, care, and flawless organization, making this an deeply satisfying and stress-free adventure. Our leader, Krishna, was outstanding. His deep knowledge of the mountains, trail conditions, and local culture added immense value to our journey. We admire his very good sense of humor :) He managed the pace perfectly, checked on everyone’s well-being daily, and made us feel safe and confident through every high-altitude pass. His leadership skills are truly top-notch. Santos and Lauri, along with the rest of the crew, went above and beyond to take care of us. We would like to return to Nepal treks with the same team once more!

  • Simona N.

The whole tour was organized so smoothly — from the pickup until the end of the trip. Our lead guide, Krishna, and his team, Santosh and Aananta, were super responsible and made sure there was never a single moment to worry about, even about the weather :) We felt safe, cared for, always in a good mood, and well informed about each day’s plan. Definitely highly recommended! Thanks to the whole team, and I’m especially proud of the porters — the best team!

Annapurna circuit trek was an amazing experience I highly recommend it to anyone looking to complete a quality long term trek! Much Better Adventures made it lot easier than going solo, met a great bunch of people and the guides Kevin, Dilli and Surya were a really good welcoming crew always there to help on the trek and evenings spent in the tea house. Really good guy, well experienced, great hospitality!

  • Challenging but rewarding hike

    Inga M. May 2026
It is not an easy trek, with altitude creating serious risks, but I was rewarded with incredible views of the mountains everyday!
  • Best Trip Ever

    Andrew S. May 2026
I had the best time. I was in a a group with like minded people and we bonded very quickly. The tour had spectacular views and I was excited to begin every day. The guides looked after us very well! Krishna was very good at accommodating for all our needs!
  • Truly incredible

    Katherine R. May 2026
This trip was truly unforgettable!
  • Adventure of a Lifetime

    Iona G. May 2026
I had the most incredible time trekking the Annapurna Circuit with MBA.
  • Epic Adventure!

    Jessica M. May 2026
This Annapurna Circuit trek with Much Better Adventures was one of the most physically and mentally challenging experiences I’ve taken on (and also one of the most rewarding!).
  • Magic trip

    Aurimas N. May 2026
We recently completed the Annapurna Circuit trek, and we are very happy with organizing team and our guides.
  • One of the best trips so far!

    Simona N. May 2026
The whole tour was organized so smoothly — from the pickup until the end of the trip.
  • Annapurna circuit trek

    Conor W. May 2026
Annapurna circuit trek was an amazing experience I highly recommend it to anyone looking to complete a quality long term trek! Much Better Adventures made it lot easier than going solo, met a great bunch of people and the guides Kevin, Dilli and Surya were a really good welcoming crew always there to help on the trek and evenings spent in the tea house. Really good guy, well experienced, great hospitality!

    Kevin B. May 2026
What a great experience! One that I'll remember for the rest of my life. Our guides Kevin, Dilli, and Suriya were excellent, always positive and uplifting, and handled everything deftly and professionally. They made even the hard days fun. The circuit was a wonderful mix of villages, woods, mountains, and many bridges showcasing the richness and breadth of Nepalese culture, ecology, and weather. The trek was well-paced, and the acclimatization well done. Very grateful to the MBA team for providing such a well-done trip. Namaste!
  • A superbly run Annapurna Circuit trek with outstanding guides

    Matthew B. May 2026
Trekking the Annapurna Circuit with Much Better Adventures was one of the most memorable journeys I have taken. The route moves gradually and powerfully through Nepal: from lower valleys and villages into a harsher, more elemental country of stone, wind, thin air, and immense mountains. The trip was very well organized, but never felt overmanaged. Much Better Adventures provided the right structure: clear logistics, thoughtful pacing, good communication, and a sense that the details had been carefully handled before we ever arrived on the trail. The guides were exceptional. Calm, experienced, observant, and deeply attuned to the mountains, they gave the trek its confidence. Their judgment around altitude, pacing, weather, safety, and group morale was steady throughout. At higher elevations, where small decisions begin to matter, their professionalism became especially clear. The support team also deserves real credit. Bags, lodging, meals, daily plans, and trail logistics were all handled smoothly. That kind of work often disappears into the background when done well, but on a long Himalayan trek it becomes the foundation of the entire experience. The Annapurna Circuit is demanding. It asks something of you physically and mentally. But that is also what makes it meaningful. This was not simply a holiday; it was a genuine mountain journey beautiful, humbling, and at times severe in the best possible way. I am grateful to Much Better Adventures and to the Nepal guide team for making the experience feel safe, well led, and unforgettable. I would highly recommend this trek to anyone looking for a serious Himalayan adventure with a company and guide team worthy of the landscape.
  • Wow!!

    Balaji M. May 2026
Booking this trip with MBA was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I truly do not think I could have completed this trek without the incredible support and encouragement from the guide team — Tika, Santosh, Isur, and Mohan. Throughout the journey, the guides were much more than trek leaders; they were a constant support system. When I developed a sore throat and cold during the hike, Tika recommended drinking ginger and honey tea and also advised us on foods to avoid to prevent getting sicker at high altitude. His thoughtful care and practical advice made a huge difference and helped me continue the trek comfortably. The guides also made the experience memorable in special ways beyond the trail itself. One of our fellow hikers celebrated a birthday during the trek, and Tika somehow managed to arrange a chocolate cake at a remote tea house in the mountains. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made the celebration unforgettable. I especially appreciated how Isur paced the trek. He ensured that no one was left behind while still helping the group make steady progress each day. Santosh and Mohan were always positive, smiling, and ready with encouragement whenever anyone felt tired or discouraged. Together, the entire guide team created an atmosphere that was supportive, motivating, and genuinely enjoyable. Their experience, kindness, and attention to every member of the group made this trek an unforgettable adventure. I cannot recommend this trek highly enough. It is physically demanding and pushes you beyond what you may expect, but that challenge is exactly what makes the experience so rewarding. If you are considering this trek, prepare well, take time to acclimatize properly, and trust your guides — their expertise and support are invaluable. You will return not only with amazing memories, but also with a renewed perspective and a sense of accomplishment that stays with you long after the trek is over.

Trek was great and the guides / trip staff were spectacular.
  • Incredible

    Tania G. May 2026
What an incredible challenging adventure. This hike is the most spectacular and difficult I have ever completed. Our guide Tika and his crew expertly guided us over the mountain, with lots of laughs along the way. I felt in such good safe hands. Book this trip if you love adventure.
  • What an adventure!

    Annika C. May 2026
The landscape is just surreal, and we were lucky enough to get sunny days filled with spring flowers as well as snow on the pass late into the season. From food recommendations to impromptu language lessons, we were well looked after by the guides. If you love the mountains, visiting Nepal is something you need to do at least once in your lifetime and spend the rest of your time planning on going back.
  • Highly recommend this trip!

    Mia G. May 2026
I can’t recommend this trip enough. Sanjeet and his team looked after us throughout, even when some of us got sick they went to extra efforts to keep us comfortable and safe. From start to finish it was incredibly well organised and orchestrated. They factored in sufficient rest so the trip overall wasn’t too demanding. It was a nice length to get to know the group and the guides. You have time to form bonds which make the trip even more rewarding and enjoyable. I’d suggest anyone coming brings their own supply of snacks and electrolytes as we got through a lot of these and it’s good to have familiar food with you. I was particularly impressed with the lengths that Sanjeet and team went to when I finished, organising for me travel and hotels in Chitwan and Kathmandu. If you have the leave I’d recommend people take some extra time at the end to explore Nepal a bit more.
  • Amazing trip with an amazing crew

    Reid S. May 2026
This trip was an amazing experience that explored many regions of Nepal. The guides were amazing especially our lead guide, Sanjeet. They went above and beyond time and time again. They guided us over difficult passes and ensure everything went smoothly even when we encountered challenges. Their professionalism and deep knowledge of Nepal helped us learn about Nepali history and culture while also sharing their very personal stories. If I could give this trip 6 our 5 stars I would! Huge thank you to Sanjeet and his crew and to Himal and the drivers.
  • Amazing crew- adventure of a lifetime

    Elliot W. May 2026
What a trip! From start to end excitement, all made possible by our lovely crew of guides; Tikka, Isoor, Santos and Mohann. These guides made us all feel safe while also pushing us to complete our goal while also working around the clock to ensure we enjoyed our adventure! I cannot put into words how great of an experience this trip has been thanks to the team of organisers, guides and porters - all of which did their job with a warm smile! 10/10 would recommend
  • Amazing trip with great guides

    Xavier C. May 2026
One of the most scenic experiences where you felt taken care of the entire time by a great team of charismatic, friendly and knowledgeable guides. A big thank you to our lead guide, Kushahari Phuyal - always cracking jokes and telling us about surrounding landscapes and about Nepalese culture. The assistant guides Resham, Ananta and Tsring were all great and set a pace that everyone was very comfortable with. Another huge thanks to the support staff Raju, Balkrishana, Dipak, Sujan and Amrit and it was great to have a nice dinner altogether at the end of the trek. Such an outstanding trip with amazing fellow travellers and staff. Definitely would love to do another trek organised by MBA later down the line. Thank you everyone!!
  • A really great adventure

  • Annapurna Circuit Trek

    Colan M. May 2026
Amazing trip on the Annapurna Circuit with these guys! Everyone at MBA went above and beyond to make sure our group had everything we could need. Our lead guide Kush and assistant guides Resham, Ananta and Tsring, provided a wealth of cultural and local knowledge. All the support staff Raju sapkota, Balkrishana, Dipak, Sujan, Amrit who managed our gear were fantastic. They were always at the overnight location ahead of us with high fives at the end of the day. Extra shout out to this company who is prioritizing development and promotion of female leaders!
  • Wow!

    Sophie P. May 2026
The Annapurna Circuit with Much Better and Freedom Adventures was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! A fantastic challenge, the most beautiful scenery and the most thoughtful considered itinerary. Tika, our lead guide, was exceptionally good. He and the team of assistant guides, Santos, Isswor and Mohan made us feel so cared for, they handled everything, sorting our tea stops and dinners, helping with crampons and keeping us safe in landslide areas. The route was carefully planned and paced to keep us well and to acclimatise to altitude with varying lengths of days and ascents. It was so much fun getting to know the team and the joy with the whole group made the trip really fun. Everyone looked out for each other, I felt really supported. Tika and the team made sure we kept hydrated, well fed and comfy. They were so patient and knew just when to stop and rest and where the best photo opportunities were. They made us laugh and it was great to share the experience with them and the group. Special thanks as well to the amazing porters who carried our gear, couldn’t have done it without them. I already miss all the Dhal Bat and Lemon Ginger Honey teas. Jaam Jaam!
  • Exceeded expectations!

    Callum W. May 2026
I completed the Annapurna Circuit with Much Better Adventures in April, and it exceeded my expectations! The Annapurna Circuit is beautiful. The route we took was a perfect balance of challenging yet well-paced to allow for proper acclimatisation. My favorite day was ascending to Tilicho Lake. Though it was covered in snow, the journey was unforgettable with us donning microspikes for the icy trails. The tea houses were better equipped than I had anticipated, and the food was great. I could have eaten Dal Bhat every day! What really sets MBA’s Annapurna Circuit trek apart is their partnership with Freedom Adventures. Our lead guide, Kushahari Phuyal, was incredibly charismatic and attentive throughout. His “bedtime stories” during the evening briefings added a unique and memorable layer to the experience, sharing insights into Nepal’s history, religion, and his own personal life. It was also great to see how he encouraged his team to take part, giving others the chance to share their own stories. I also really appreciated seeing Freedom Adventures supporting female guides; hearing Tsring speak about women’s experiences and traditions in Nepal was particularly insightful. The supporting guides Resham, Ananta (Lahure), and Tsring Gurung were equally fantastic. After long days of trekking (often 8+ hours), it was impressive to see them immediately switch into Michelin standard service mode at the tea houses taking orders, helping hosts, and making sure everyone was comfortable. Throughout the trip, the whole group felt incredibly safe and well looked after by the guides, and by the end of it, we would all happily call them friends. The support team, Raju Sapkota, Balkrishana, Dipak, Sujan, and Amrit were absolute powerhouses. I tried lifting one of their packs … they were heavy! Despite that, they were always upbeat, great fun, and even brought plenty of energy to the dance floor at the end of the trip! They more than earned that celebration, especially considering they carried those loads over Thorong Pass, which I hadn’t even realised they would have to do. After my optional flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu was cancelled due to thunderstorms, I happened to run into a Freedom Adventures representative at the airport. Although he wasn’t part of our trip, he went out of his way to help me and a few others arrange transport back to the city, and even returned early the next morning to take us back to the airport. It really highlighted how their team goes above and beyond to make you feel well looked after. Thanks to the incredible team at Freedom Adventures, this is a trip I’d highly recommend to anyone considering the Annapurna Circuit.
  • Overall great trip!! Shout out

    Marina C. May 2026
Overall great trip!! Shout out to our local team: Kush (lead guide), Resham, Ananta and Tsring (assistant guides), and amazing support staff (Raju, Balkrishana, Dipak, Sujan & Amrit) for not only keeping us safe & sound but also happy, entertained, and sharing with us their local knowledge during evening ‘story time’. Tea houses were nice and cosy and mountains very impressive! Good food too.

    Andrew L. May 2026
An outstanding trip led with passion, purpose and pride by Kush and his team of assistant guides, Resham, Ananta and Tsring. They were seriously excellent - ensuring our welfare was always on their minds - from making sure our food was delivered, to carefully supporting us all during the tougher times of the trip. I've personally completed many such trips over the last 45+yrs. This is in the top 3 for sure. Well planned and executed - highly recommended.

A complete adventure - organised and executed perfectly by our amazing leader Kush, who provided support at all times with a smile on his face. Resham, Ananta and Tsring made sure we had everything we needed, all with their own brilliant personalities! The backbone of our trip was without a doubt the support staff, Raju, Dipak, Amrit, Sujan and Balkrishana. We all admired whenever we overlapped with them, as it’s a tough job carrying our bags. The whole team deserves success in life, great people with open hearts. As for my fellow travellers, the beauty of these trips is that everyone goes in as strangers and comes out as friends. Friends with similar adventurous mindsets. Bunch of legends. If you’re reading this review, just book it. A full Nepalese culture immersion trek with a mix of everything.
  • Must do experience

    Sonja A. May 2026
Where do I start. Hands down one of the best treks I’ve done to date. Couldn’t have been what it was if it wasn’t for Kush, Resh, Lahure, Taring and the rest of the support staff. Will most definitely be doing another trek through much better adventure
  • Trek exceeded all expectations!

    Craig M. April 2026
Trekking the Annapurna circuit with MBA was incredible! Everything was so well planned out including rest stops and pacing for altitude acclimatisation. Even though our route had to be altered due to bad weather the team handled it so professionally- we were never in any doubt that a better decision could have been made to keep us all safe and reach for the end goal of getting to Thorong La Pass. The kindness and expertise shown by our lead guide (Tika) and the rest of his team was second to none, we would absolutely recommend them! Big thanks also our assistant guides (Resam, Birdhoj and Nir) aswell as our superhuman porters (Sanosh, Min, Josis, Sakti and Bhumi) who were great company on the mountain and brilliant at what they do!
  • Incredible trip - a once in a lifetime experience

    Will H. April 2026
I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. Freedom Adventures (the tour company affiliate in Nepal) were absolutely fantastic from start to finish. From our lead guide Sanjeet, to the assistant guides (Dilly, Mohan and Kunga) as well as the team of porters - they couldn't have been more helpful, informative and supportive across the trip. They would consistently go the extra mile to ensure we were looked after and having a great time, including amendments or additions to the trip. The hikes themselves, scenery and views were other worldly and the scale and grandeur of the Himalayas is indescribably. I look forward to my next trip to Nepal.

The below can be rented in Kathmandu:

Kathmandu has many outdoor gear shops - some sell real gear that is the same price you will find it at home, and some are filled with cheaper imitation gear that may not be of the same quality. You will, however, find a soft duffel bag easily that the porters can carry.

Please remove all unnecessary packing before you leave home and ensure you take all plastic off the mountain to be disposed of in Kathmandu.

FAQs

The preferred currency is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). While ATMs are available in the main cities, please do not rely on them as they are often out of order and most have a maximum withdrawal limit equivalent to about $370.

It's best to bring the bulk of your money with you in cash, then exchange it at a bank or at one of the many money changers in Nepal – your guide can help you with this. Most major currencies are accepted, including USD, Euros, and GBP (Sterling), however Scottish or Irish currency cannot be changed. Keep your exchange receipts in case you want to change any unused Rupees back into hard currency when you leave Nepal (it is illegal to export Nepalese Rupees, as it is a closed currency).

You will need to carry a fairly large amount of cash while trekking, for the meals (see 'Not Included' above). We advise that you keep this in a waterproof bag and in your day bag along with your passport.

We work with some of the best leaders in the industry. Every single one of them is government licensed and very experienced. To ensure guides' high standard of performance, the host provides them with top-notch in-house training that covers Leave No Trace (LNT) principles, advanced wilderness emergency aid, hyperbaric chambers, oxygen systems, mountain rescue, and incident management.

Although we schedule departure dates outside of the main monsoon season, weather conditions in any mountain region can be unpredictable and sometimes your host will need to revert to 'Plan B'. No two trekking seasons are the same but occasional landslides after Yak Kharka or heavy snowfall at Thorong Phedi or on the Thorong La are known to lead to trail closures on this route.

If the trail is closed or deemed unsafe, your host will organize an alternative trek – usually an extended version of the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek (also visiting Australian Camp). However, if after you’ve set off on the Annapurna Circuit Trek an issue subsequently arises and you cannot cross the Thorong La, you’ll have to retrace your steps back to Taal.

At the end of the trek, a flight from Jomsom to Pokhara is included – if this is canceled you will drive to Pokhara instead.

You can leave any luggage not needed during the trek at your hotel in Kathmandu.

This trip includes one porter for every two trekkers. They will carry up to 45-55 lbs of gear so your overnight bags and spare clothes will be transported for you (maximum 26 lbs per person). You will only need to carry a daypack with essentials in (extra layer, snacks, water, sunscreen, camera etc).

Your host in Nepal can arrange a variety of extra experiences in Kathmandu, should you want to explore further. Please discuss these directly with your host, who will be able to book them for you.

Kathmandu Heritage Tour: Visit four UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple). Duration: full day (approx. 8:00 AM–3:00 PM).

Spice Markets & Durbar Square: Explore Asan Market and Thamel, visiting spice and tea markets and learning about the cultural, culinary and medicinal uses of Nepali spices from local vendors. Finish at Kathmandu Durbar Square, home to historic temples and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Duration: approx. three hours (flexible timing).

Master the Arts: Head to Bhaktapur Durbar Square for a pottery workshop. Learn to spin the wheel and shape clay into simple items such as cups, bowls or vases, and observe traditional drying and firing techniques used by local potters. Duration: half day (approx. 8:00 AM–12:30 PM).

Nepali Cooking Class: Learn to prepare four traditional Nepali dishes with hands-on guidance, then enjoy one of your creations. This experience supports SASANE and their work addressing human trafficking, child marriage and violence against women. Duration: half day (morning or afternoon).

Lakeside Pokhara, with its laid-back vibe, is a popular spot to relax after a trek. Although the tour starts and ends in Kathmandu, your host can arrange extra nights for you in Pokhara after your trek. They will simply shift your included bus transfer from Pokhara to Kathmandu and your final night's hotel reservation in Kathmandu to a later date for you, so you'll only need to pay for the additional accommodation in Pokhara.

Although most teahouses have the option to buy bottled water, we advise against it to reduce the use of plastic in the mountains (this ends up being burned or dumped into landfill out of sight).

You will instead be provided with cold water that needs treating. There is a wide range of products available these days which are more effective than traditional purification tablets – some trekkers like to use handheld UV devices such as a Steripen but other options are available (just check their performance in freezing conditions).

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates daily, so prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

This trip includes a domestic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. Nepal's mountainous terrain and weather create challenging flying conditions, and unfortunately, more incidents (including fatalities) occur here than in other countries. Since 2013, the EU has banned all Nepalese domestic airlines from flying within EU airspace to raise awareness of the poor safety record (although no Nepalese airlines were operating routes within the EU prior to the ban). You should be aware that flying in Nepal is an identified risk: please consider this carefully before making a reservation. Additional info can be found on the Aviation Safety Network entry for Nepal as well as the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office travel advice for Nepal.

Domestic airlines in Nepal are generally not accredited by any internationally recognized safety audit systems, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal does not operate to the same standards as those of Western nations.

What does Much Better Adventures do about this?
Much Better Adventures collaborates with other UK travel companies to arrange for independent air-safety auditors to visit Nepal annually to assess the local airlines. Much Better Adventures then only uses the carriers that were approved as part of the most recent audit. If any concerns are subsequently raised about an approved airline between audits, we put them on hold until the auditors are satisfied that safety standards are being met.

Due to the nature of this trip, it's essential that your personal travel insurance policy covers the maximum altitude reached on this trip (17,769 ft) as well as for emergency medical evacuation by helicopter.

At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive, and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location, and accommodation, and in some places, options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip, depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully before your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.

Once you have booked your trip, please fill out your passenger information form asap with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.

BACKGROUND

Nepal’s cuisine is shaped by its mountainous geography, agricultural traditions, and strong cultural ties to India and Tibet. Meals are typically hearty and practical, centered around rice, lentils, seasonal vegetables, and preserved foods, with meat used more sparingly in many regions.

In Kathmandu and Pokhara, there is a wide range of hotels and restaurants serving high-quality food. However, in the remote trekking regions, limited infrastructure (including a lack of refrigeration) means teahouses tend to offer a similar, simple menu throughout. It is generally advisable to avoid meat in more remote teahouses, as freshness cannot be guaranteed—your guide will advise accordingly. A vegetarian or vegan diet is often the most suitable, while a lactose-free diet is also not too restrictive. Gluten-free diets, however, can be accommodated but are more limited and repetitive.

Meals in trekking regions are built around dal bhat (rice, lentil soup, and vegetables), along with variations of potatoes, noodles, soups, breads, rice, pasta, and even pizza—sometimes with egg, vegetables, cheese, or tinned tuna. Desserts may include apple pie, chocolate pudding (often with custard), or cake. Breakfast typically consists of toast, eggs, pancakes, Tibetan bread, porridge, or muesli.

Fresh fruit is rarely available, and fresh vegetables become scarcer at higher altitudes. While carbohydrates are plentiful, meals can lack variety and certain nutrients, so bringing snacks such as nuts or dried fruit is recommended.

Some dietary requirements and allergies may not be well understood in remote areas. Your guide will help communicate your needs, but flexibility and preparation are essential when trekking in these regions.

SPECIAL DIETS

Vegetarian Vegetarian diets can be well catered for on this trip, provided your host is informed in advance. There are plenty of options available both in cities and along trekking routes. Common dishes include dal bhat, vegetable momos (dumplings), vegetable noodle soup, and fried rice or noodles with vegetables and/or egg. Potatoes, Tibetan bread, pasta, and pizza are also widely available.

Vegan Vegan diets can be well catered for on this trip, provided your host is informed in advance. Porridge is a common breakfast and can be made with water on request, though it is often prepared with milk powder by default. Dal bhat is the main staple, though some versions may include ghee - so do check. Momos may contain egg in the dough. While carbohydrates are easy to find, sources of vegan protein are limited, so bringing snacks is recommended.

Kosher Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are not available in remote teahouses, so a Kosher diet cannot be accommodated on this trip. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.

Halal Certified Halal meat is not available in remote teahouses, although it can be found in Kathmandu and other major cities. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.

INTOLERANCES

Gluten Free (for Celiac, please see Allergies section below) Gluten-free diets are difficult to accommodate in trekking regions of Nepal. Please inform your host in advance, but be aware that options are limited and often repetitive. Many staple foods—such as Tibetan bread, noodles, pasta, pancakes, and muesli—contain gluten, making breakfast particularly restrictive. You may often rely on eggs as an alternative. Additionally, powdered soups, seasonings, and soy sauce frequently contain gluten, and cross-contamination is a significant risk in teahouse kitchens. Naturally gluten-free options do exist, including dal bhat, potatoes, eggs, plain rice, and simple soups. However, flexibility and preparation are essential, and your guide will assist in communicating your needs.

Lactose Free Lactose-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Many dishes are naturally lactose-free, but you will need to specify at each meal that you require food without milk, milk powder, ghee, butter, or cheese. Porridge and muesli can be prepared with water on request. As sources of healthy fats may be limited, bringing supplementary snacks is recommended. Flexibility remains important in remote areas, and your guide will help communicate your requirements.

ALLERGIES

Our host has confirmed that provision for certain mild and severe or life-threatening food allergies on this trip may be unreliable. Please get in touch with our Customer Experience team before booking to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip.

This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip, and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority. Please note that when traveling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods, and labeling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. While your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.

There are 3 different seasons for trekking in Nepal:

Winter (Dec-Feb): Despite being seen as ‘off-season’ this is often the best time to trek in Nepal. The nights can be very cold (down to -4ºF) but the trails are quieter and the mountain views are often at their best due to the clear sunny skies.

Pre-Monsoon/Spring (Mar-May): Temperatures rise significantly in spring and flowers are in full bloom in the lower areas. Although it can still drop below freezing at night, the daytime temperatures tend to sit between 50-59ºF.

Post-Monsoon/Fall (Sep-Nov): This is the most popular time to trek in Nepal with generally sunny and mild days. It can get cold and windy at higher altitudes, however the skies are usually clear.

Of course, mountain weather is notoriously hard to predict and snow can be expected on any trip so come prepared.

As the Annapurna Circuit has wide trails, and much of it sits in a rain shadow, the summer months of June-August are still good for trekking. These months are a great time to have the trails almost entirely to yourself.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre program, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 570kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
