This was by far the best activity holiday I have ever been in. Our guides Rob and Eli could not have been more professional and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
Being of a slightly older disposition and slightly slower than the gazelles in the party I was never felt to be a burden. I was never that far behind but I did find it hard to keep up with the younger and fitter ones.
The descriptions were not always entirely accurate in the online brochure but this was made up for by the entertaining explanations given by Rob and/or Eli “not far to go”, “just around the next bend” “you wouldn’t want to miss this” etc etc.
Although I would wake up with fear in the pit of my stomach what were we going to undertake today; how many scree slopes to slide down, would I fall off my bike going down some rugged mountain trail, could I actually cycle 75k????? I kept telling myself if I could get to the “rest day” it would be easy after that with 2 days rafting and one day cycle. I did it!!!!
The scenery was breathtaking. I think our group saw places that most Kiwis have never seen. The rafting was wonderful made all the more special with Hunter the dog. The rafting came at just the right time giving me a chance to rest my weary legs and bursting lungs.
The accommodation was excellent. The first night a little interesting but other than that all the hotels were very clean and very good quality as was the food.
My recommendation to anyone considering this adventure is make sure you get some long cycling and hiking days in. Get to the gym and get your quads strong. You’ll enjoy the experience a whole lot more.
Despite my misgivings as to whether I should or could do this it was worth every sore muscle and ache. This is a “must do” if you want a “much better adventure”. Age is but a number. From a much fitter 69y/o female.
