What to Expect

Day 1: Arrival

Your host will meet you at the airport in Zadar and drive you to the small village of Kastel Zegorski. There you’ll set up camp and enjoy a BBQ dinner around the campfire.

Day 2: Zrmanja River kayaking

After breakfast you’ll be put into the river and kayak along a flat, scenic section of the river. Around midday you’ll take a short walk to an 8m high waterfall for a picnic lunch and a refreshing swim.

Back at the river you’ll kayak through a slightly more challenging section. Negotiate class II and III rapids while floating through limestone canyons and lush, green vegetation.

That night you’ll camp near one of Zrmanja’s bigger waterfalls and enjoy a traditional meal around the campfire.

4 - 5 hours kayaking

Day 3: Zrmanja River kayaking and departure

Today we finish our Zrmanja river expedition in Muškovci village. Enjoy breakfast at camp, then it’s time for one last kayak down the Zrmanja River to the village of Muskovci. You’ll pass through wild karst landscapes along the way, and cool off with a final swim. We’ll change into dry clothes and drive to Zadar city with enough time for sightseeing before your flight home.

Croatian cuisine is quite diverse. Popular meals include charcuterie, cottage cheese with sour cream, meat and vegetable stews, gnocchi, and sweet potato dumplings. Meat is typically chicken or veal. In coastal regions you’ll find more Mediterranean food and seafood.

Vegetarian diets can be catered for, but Croatian cuisine is based around foods like pasta, bread and dumplings, so gluten-free diets are difficult to accommodate.

You need to have a good level of fitness for this tour. The kayaking is class II and III; no previous experience is required.

Down on the Dalmatian coast the weather is a little warmer and drier than in Zagreb. Spring and fall temperatures range from 9 – 21 °C with roughly 10 days of rain per month. Summer temperatures range from 16 – 30 °C with just 6 days of rain per month.

Bring comfortable, wicking clothing suitable for athletic activities, and warm clothes to change into at night. A swimsuit and towel are necessary for the watersports. Neoprene shorts and booties are provided for kayaking if the weather is cold.

Also bring a water bottle, sun protection, a head torch, and a small rucksack to carry personal items. You need to provide your own sleeping bag, but a tent and sleeping pad are included.
