Key Information
Day 1
Welcome to Slovakia
Meet your host in Krakow and take a scenic drive over the border into Slovakia, then on to your guesthouse in the UNESCO-protected town of Levoča. Check in, unwind and then meet up with the rest of your group for dinner and a chance to review the plan for the days ahead.
Day 2
One day, two canyons
Hiking
Head into the Slovak Paradise National Park and see for yourself why it lives up to its name. Hike along the bottom of Sucha Bela Gorge, one of the longest and most popular canyons in the park, trek through water, climb over fallen trees and ascend ladders – you'll even pass a window-like hole in the rock. Emerge from the canyon and have lunch at a mountain hut before continuing through Prielom Hornadu gorge, famous for the series of ledges and catwalks that rise above the Hornad River. Return to Levoča in time for dinner and a good night's sleep.
Day 3
Fireplace Gorge
Hiking
Head back into the park and explore Piecky (Fireplace) Gorge, which gets its name from the amazing rock formations that span the canyon. More ladders await as you climb beside multi-story waterfalls, including some horizontal ones that take you over green and blue pools of water. After hiking we head back to the town, have an early dinner before heading out to relax at the thermal pools when it's quiet and cool.
Day 4
One last hike
Hiking
Check out and venture into the National Park one last time on a hike to a stunning, 200m high rock shelf with excellent views over the entire area you’ve been exploring. Hike back down and return to Krakow in time for your flight home with new stories and photos to share with your friends.

Transfers
Your adventure begins at Krakow Airport (KRK) with your airport transfer at 17:00. Please schedule your flight to arrive more than 30 minutes before this time, your driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals area.
At the end of your adventure, you will be dropped back at Krakow Airport (KRK) at about 17:30. You’re free to book any flight that departs after 19:30.
Travel options
There are regular flights to Krakow from major airports across the UK and Europe.
Your group arrival and departure transfers are long (180km/approximately 3.5 hours) and include a border crossing. For this reason, private transfers are not usually offered by your host as the cost is prohibitive and you are encouraged to join the group arrival/departure transfers.
As the first and last day of your adventure are full days and the traffic between Krakow Airport and the city is usually heavy, it is not possible to be picked up or dropped off at a city hotel. However, public transport between the city and the airport is good. There is a train that leaves once or twice per hour, this takes 17minutes and is very economical.
Alternatively, there are a small number of flights between the UK and Poprad-Tatry Airport. Private transfers between this airport and your starting/finishing point are not available, however, the cost of a taxi is approximately 15-25 EUR one way.

What is the food like?
Slovakian food is fresh and hearty and staples include pork, poultry, cheese, pastry, potatoes, onions and garlic. Lentil and vegetable stews are also common, as is wild game, pasta and the dish bryndzove halušky – small potato dumplings with cheese. You'll have plenty of time to stock up on local food for lunches while out hiking.
There are also a variety of restaurants in town, including European-American fusion, pizza, pubs and Italian. It’s possible to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets on this trip, just let your host know before arrival.
What is the accommodation like?
Levoča
While hiking in the Slovak National Park, you'll stay at the Hotel U Leva – a family-run, 3-star hotel in a restored medieval building right in the heart of town. Rooms are en suite and include WiFi, satellite TV and a minibar. The hotel serves a delicious fresh breakfast each day.
Please note, select departures will stay next door at the Hotel Arkada, which is of a similar standard, or at Podlesok Ranch, which is right at the edge of Slovak Paradise National Park.
Upgrades
For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room can be booked for an extra charge, see Optional Extras. Please request this at the time of booking (this is subject to availability).
This trip has been rated as Moderate
You'll be covering 11 - 17km each day across uneven terrain, so a moderate level of fitness is needed to enjoy it to the full, however, elevation gains are modest (400 - 700m) and while the trails are complex, you'll be moving at a slow pace.
The ladders, catwalks and ledges (some of which are quite narrow) are very sturdy and secure, however, you should be comfortable with heights. Imagine climbing up to the 3rd story of a building on a ladder. If you can do that, you'll be fine and your guide will never be far away.
The Slovak Paradise National Park in summer is beautiful and relatively warm. From June to August the average daytime temperatures on a sunny day can range from 20 - 30°C, but at night it cools down to as low as 8 °C. In the spring and fall it's a little chillier, ranging from 10 - 18 °C during the day and 3 - 6 °C at night. Autumn is the driest season and also boasts some beautiful colours.
Another fantastic trip
This was our second trip with Much Better Adventures and again was fantastic. A great tour company. Slovakia was a beautiful country and the routes we took led to some spectacular views. The ladder climbs weren't challenging and very easy to climb. The guides were great fun.
The town we were based in was very quiet- with the small number of bars closing early so we had early nights. Hotel was great with huge rooms.
The hike is on the
The hike is on the challenging side for less athletic individuals and there were sections of the trail that were quite slippery and difficult to pass, even in dry weather. The guides were great at helping participants over the challenging spots, and overall I thought the tour was fantastic. The guides were also very friendly and had lots of suggestions for places to eat and other things to do in the area.
Magical adventure in Slovakia!
This was my first adventure trip with Much Better Adventures! It was such a magical and adrenaline inducing hike in the beautiful Slovakia National Park. We were blessed with amazing weather and fairy-tale like colours. Our guides, Patrik and Michal, were super helpful and chill. My highlight of the trip was the 14M tall ladder and 'Indiana Jones' type of bridges and walkways along the cliffs! I'm already looking at other mba adventures and planning my 2025 trips!
Awesome weekend
Great group, knowledgeable and helpful guides - couldn't have improved on anything - even the weather was superb ....came home and immediately started planning next years adventures. Thank you Patrick and Mikel
A fantastic and stunning trip!
A hugely enjoyable 3 days hiking around the beautiful forests of Slovakia. We were extremely lucky with the weather and enjoyed the stunning views, sunshine and colours that the Autumn landscape had to offer. Our main guide Patrick was brilliant, very knowledgeable, patient and helpful. The ladders and routes were The hotel was super comfortable and everything was very well organised. We were catered for very, very well. All transport was also comfortable, easy and well managed.
excellent guides lovey scenery pleasure
excellent guides lovey scenery pleasure to holiday with made lots new friends (as we had large group ) went weekend of Oct 17th 2024 will use again as now looking for our next adventure.
What a way to spend a weekend!
Our amazing guides (Patrik and Michel) put so much effort into making sure we had fun. Everything went so smoothly from pick up at the airport to drop off at the end of our adventure. Nothing was a problem and all abilities were accommodated. I don’t really have a head for heights and wanted to challenge myself and with the encouragement of the group and some determination I managed the ladders and felt safe at all times. The safety briefings were pitched just right.. but read the trip notes to make sure you are able for and comfortable with the challenges. We had amazing weather which made the weekend very special. The hotel was great and provided a great selection of breakfasts and loads for vegetarians too. The start and finish were perfect. Just the right amount of free time. The group was managed ( but it never felt like we were actively managed) like clockwork… no hiccups, everyone found what they needed from the local bakery, shops, banks… everything was considered.
This trip under promised and over delivered. I will be back!!
Beautiful adventure in the national park
We loved the hiking up the river with all the ladders and platforms! And the beautiful autumn colors of the forest in the crisp air and sunlight of the clear blue sky was stunning. Great food at the hotel too. And the thermal baths were perfect to relax after the hikes.
Amazing weekend in a beautiful part of Europe
We had an amazing weekend with Patrick, our very knowledgeable guide for the weekend. He made it really fun and the scenery is outstanding. Hotel was simple, but clean and welcoming and had fabulous food. The town is lovely, feels very non touristy and the local restaurants and bars are cosy and great value. All in all, a great trip, worth every penny and would highly recommend
Magic weekend!
Patrick was a brilliant guide - knowledgeable and good energy. The photos don’t do this trip justice. Do it!
