This trip will run with a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of 7.

Sure you can! A lot of people do, and it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our Epic Weekends are very social in nature and we’ve seen lots of new friendships born out of them. Expect a mix of solo travelers and very small groups, all with a shared appreciation of escaping the city for the great outdoors to try something new and meet new people.

This trip is suitable for beginner or intermediate sea kayakers. No previous experience is needed, but you do need a good level of fitness to fully enjoy the active days.

Your Agriturismo* produces its own vegetables, olives and fruits, and raises a wide variety of livestock. These ingredients make it onto the dinner table for fresh, delicious Sardinian meals.

Typical food items include focaccia pizza, fresh salad, fresh bread, gnocchi, ravioli, wild boar, suckling pig, seasonal vegetables, sheep’s milk cheese and dessert. Local wine is included with dinner.

While sea kayaking you’ll have packed picnic lunches with fruit, a sandwich, snacks and a drink.

Please note lunch is not provided on arrival day - the first included meal is dinner.

Absolutely, but please make sure you let us know during booking.

From May to October the daytime temperatures range from 22 – 30 °C and cool off to 11 – 18 °C at night. From November to April the daytime temperatures range from 14 –18 °C and cool off to 10 – 13 °C at night. Rain is uncommon, so you’re sure to get a lot of sun.

Your host will provide all the sea kayaking equipment, including your boat (single or double), paddle, PFD, spraydeck, 10 L drybag and water shoes. You’ll also be provided with basic snorkeling gear. If you’re an experienced kayaker, just let us know and we will arrange the right boat for you.

Your host recommends you pack:

  • A light-weight, long-sleeve shirt for paddling
  • Swim shorts
  • Swimsuit and towel
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunblock)
  • Casual clothes for evenings at the Agriturismo and in town
  • Autumn/winter trips - warmer clothes e.g. fleece, sweater

Location

View map

Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean and a popular destination for visitors to Italy. The island consists of high, rocky coasts, impressive headlands, and an interior of rolling hills.

Alghero is a small city (pop. 44,000) in the northwest. The strong Catalan culture is reflected in the language and food. There’s plenty to explore, including archaeological sites, churches and cathedrals, ancient fortifications, and many beaches, bays, and parks.

The sea kayaking will take place at the Porto Conte Regional Park. The park protects 60km of coastline showcasing an array of unique landscapes. More than 60 plant communities have been identified in the park, along with a wealth of bird species. You might get lucky and see Griffon Vultures circling overhead.

Start point

Start point: Alghero Airport

Your adventure begins at Alghero Airport (AHO) on Wednesday Day 1. Book any flight which works for your travel plans. If you arrive in time, you will meet your fellow adventurers at Agriturismo Agave at 20:00 for dinner on Day 1.

Your host can either arrange a taxi transfer to the Agriturismo for you in advance, or if you prefer to take your own when you arrive - there are plenty available outside. It is only a 10 minute taxi to your accommodation. More details will be provided just prior to your arrival.

We recommend looking at individual one-way flights to/from Alghero Airport e.g. Easyjet from Alghero to Luton for UK based customers. Ryanair also flies from Stansted to Alghero.

Please note: the schedules have not been published for 2020 so we are basing this information on the best currently available.

If you’re not able to fly into Alghero Airport on Wednesday, you could book an extra night(s) and enjoy some sightseeing in Alghero. Your host will be able to help you with this if you need it.

Finish point

Finish point Alghero Airport

At the end of your trip, your host will help arrange a taxi back to the airport so you can book any flight which suits your travel plans.

Easyjet, Ryanair and Alitalia all do a range of flights. It is often easier to search for two single flights rather than a return.

Accommodation

You’ll be staying in twin rooms at Agriturismo Agave*, a holiday farm located 4 km outside Alghero, which is still operated as a small family business. The Agriturismo features ensuite rooms, AC, wifi, a large veranda, a pool and sun terrace, and a wine cellar stocked with local wines. The kitchen creates amazing meals from ingredients produced on the farm. For winter trips we will be using accommodation at Agriturismo Barbagia or other similar accommodation with similar facilities.

For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room can be booked for €10 per person, per night (subject to availability). Please request this at the time of booking.

*Please note, availability at Agriturismo Agave can be limited during the high season (or with last minute bookings) and we need to confirm availability of rooms with each booking. It is possible that you may be accommodated close by and still have full use of the Agriturismo facilities including the swimming pool and having your dinners there with the group or we may place the group at alternative accommodation close by but with very similar facilities.
