Cool Sleeps

Adventures with cool stays along the way

View All Adventures

Let’s face it, there are times when roughing it in a tent on a windy ridgeline somewhere just doesn’t cut the mustard… fun yes… cosy no. What happens when you’re after something a little comfier, a little quirkier, a cut above camping? Or just fancied staying somewhere a bit more unique and unusual…

Enter Cool Sleeps. Our collection of adventures that puts just a little bit more emphasis on where you lay your head at night. The adventure dial is still on max, you’ll just get a cool stay along the way.

Think Martian and Arctic domes, Sami tipis, Japanese ryokans, Bedouin camps, fancy-pants camping (aka glamping), tree tents... they really are 5-billion star hotels. Easy on the eyes with windows to the skies.

What do we mean by cool?

The complete opposite of those tame 5-star hotels you get. You know the ones.

Look at it like this, if wild camping is camping dipped in Tobasco sauce, camping that’ll put hairs on your chest, our collection of cool sleeps will cover it in honey and serve it up on a rainbow platter.

Here's but a few examples...

Count stars above a Martian Dome in the heart of Wadi Rum

On our 5-night adventure in Jordan, between marvelling at ancient Petra, floating in the Dead Sea, and snorkelling the Red Sea, you'll count shooting stars from your bed in a Martian Dome in the desert in the heart of Wadi Rum’s majestic desert.

Each dome allows you to watch the milky way from your bed - waking up to a desert sunrise is something quite special.

And the ones above the Aurora Canvas Domes in the Arctic Circle

A real highlight of our Ultimate Arctic Circle Adventure in Norway and Arctic Fatbike Adventure are the nights that you’ll stay in the Aurora Canvas Domes.

These are purpose-built aluminium and canvas domes with under-floor heating and a wood-burning stove to get you as close to nature as possible. You can even open the roof – perfect for Aurora watching.

All electricity is 100% renewable and drawn from hydro-electrical power produced by the nearby Alta River. Very cool.

Rest up in a Ryokan in Japan

On our Kayak and Hike in Japan adventure and Trek through the High Peaks of the Japanese Alps adventures, you'll sleep in 'ryokans' (traditional inns) en route.

Staying in a ryokan is a quintessential Japanese experience.

Sleep in the trees in Costa Rica

On our Adventure in the Hidden Rainforests of Costa Rica after trekking through lush jungle teeming with exotic wildlife and paddling vivid coastline, you'll fall asleep to the calls of monkeys, toucans and frogs in a tent suspended among the trees.

You'll be feeling sleepy in this tipi in Norway

On our Husky Sled and Northern Lights Expedition, you'll mush your husky pack across Norway's remote Finnmark plateau and sleep under the stars in a traditional remote tipi.

You'll stay in a twin-share tipi with a wood-burning stove and heated blankets to keep you warm. Best of all, one section of the wall has been replaced with a floor-to-ceiling window that lets you look out over the night sky. The lodge also has a restaurant, bar, outdoor-jacuzzi and a sauna. Plush.

Bed down with the Bedouins

Our adventures in Morocco and Jordan include sleeping in remote Bedouin camps. You'll be treated to traditional Bedouin cuisine and the camp is the perfect place for a spot of star-gazing and to watch the sun rise the next morning. You cannot beat it.

Go glamping in Mexico

Our Hiking and Camping Adventure in Mexico sees you discover one of Mexico’s hidden wonders as you trek through the UNESCO biosphere reserve and sleep under the stars at Camp Cecil de la Sierra - a luxury tent camp in a mango and grapefruit grove in the Sierra La Laguna Biosphere Reserve. It is in the huerta of a local ranching family, and highlights both the cultural and natural heritage of the Sierras.

Each tent has it's own compost toilet room as well as a reading spot, a yoga space and a stargazing area where you can recline under the big mountain skies.

Reset in Bell Tents in Cornwall

On our adventures in Cornwall, you'll be wild camping in the woods on untouched private land 11 miles outside Newquay. The bell tents you'll stay in are arranged in a very tranquil woodland connected by festive banners and twinkle lights. After active days, the evenings here are all about relaxing, playing games and good chats with good people over a lovely campfire dinner.
