Key Information
Day 1
Meet your crew

Wave goodbye to the office and head to Bergen, where you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation in Voss. After settling into your hostel, you can head out to grab dinner locally. If you're feeling brave, you could try a quick dip in the chilly Vangsvatnet Lake before settling in for a good night’s sleep ahead of hitting the water tomorrow.
Day 2
Kayaking the Nærøyfjord

Kayaking
Grab breakfast at your hostel before hopping in the van to head to the put-in point at Gudvangen. When you arrive, your guide will get you set up with your wetsuit, kayaking boots, dry bag, waterproof camera/phone box and all of your kayaking gear. You'll have a safety briefing and an introduction to sea kayaking before heading out for your first day of unforgettable paddling down the beautiful Nærøyfjord. You'll stop off along the way for breaks and to admire the scenery, before arriving at the campsite by late afternoon. Kick back and enjoy the stunning scenery before tucking into a hot dinner and making merry around the campfire. If you're feeling up to it, there is the option of going for a short walk to get a better view of the fjord from above.
Day 3
Hike to the highlands 1000m above the fjord

Hiking
Wake up in a Norwegian paradise and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before packing your bag, ready for the day's hike. Your aim is to reach the Breiskrednosi summit, which is 1189m above the Nærøyfjord and offers a spectacular view of the fjord from above. Drink in the views over the fjord from the top with your group, before heading back down to the campsite. Enjoy dinner around the campfire before another night under the stars.
Day 4
Kayak past cliff faces and waterfalls before heading home

Kayaking
Continue kayaking north along the Nærøyfjord, exploring magnificent cliffs and remote waterfalls, keeping your eye out for seals along the way. Arrive mid-afternoon at the remote – and totally picturesque – village of Undredal, before heading to the airport in time for your flight home.

What is the food like?

The portions are more than generous, all the food is fresh and any dietary requirements can be met – just tell us your preferences when you book. Dinner and breakfast are prepared by your guide over a campfire, the menu will vary but you can expect things like rice and pasta with fresh vegetables, egg, bacon and sausages. There is also bread and sandwich filler for lunch breaks. Water, tea and coffee are also readily available as well as wine for the evenings.
What is the accommodation like?

Voss
On your first night, you'll be staying in same-sex dorms in a simple, clean hostel in Voss. Occasionally alternative accommodation is provided in cabins at Gudvangen Camping (close to the kayaking base) or in a simple hotel in Brandseth.
Fjord Edge
On the second and third night, you'll paddle to a beach and sleep in a tent under the stars. Sleeping mats and sleeping bags are provided, but you can bring your own if you prefer. There is no shower, and toilets are basic to say the least - it is wild camping after all.
Upgrades
If you'd prefer your own room in Voss, your host offers an optional upgrade to a private room at Voss Hostel or alternatively at the 4-star Park Hotel Voss (subject to availability). Park Hotel is conveniently located about 150m from the train station and right on the lakefront. Please see Optional Extras for prices - we recommend that you request this at the time of booking to avoid disappointment.
This trip has been rated as Moderate
You really do not need any kayaking experience. Your guide will give you full instructions and a safety briefing at the start. You’ll just need reasonable levels of fitness to handle approx 25km of relaxed paddling over two days, a day of hiking and be up for camping out overnight.
The hike is not for beginners and is very challenging, particularly if it is or has been wet. You'll gain over a thousand metres in elevation during the hike and early in the season (April, May and occasionally early June) there can be snow on the ground (sometimes quite deep) which adds to the challenge. The same can apply late in the season too. We would only recommend this hike if you are an active person with hiking experience. It just takes a bit of time getting up the steep section but don’t worry, it’s no race to the top.
The route is about 10km each way, making a total hike of 20.7km. The elevation is sea level to 1,189m and quite steep in places. The hike is about 8 to 11 hours return, with an awesome view from the ridge at the top to the fjord below.
What if i need to skip an activity?
There should be no problem with staying back at camp during the hiking day for someone not wanting to hike. It may also be possible to just come along for the first part of the hike and then return to the camp, this does depend on where the group is actually camped as this may affect options. Alternatively, you could consider booking the Kayak and Wild Camp Norwegian Fjords trip instead.
What will I need to carry?
For the hike, you'll only need to carry a small daypack with personal items, spare clothing layers, snacks, a packed lunch, and a water bottle. See the Kit List and FAQs for further details about packing and luggage.
The weather in summer is generally very comfortable for kayaking and camping, with temperatures of 15-20ºC, sometimes more. April and May typically see the lowest rainfall but days are cooler (typically 10-15ºC) and nights usually hover a few degrees above freezing. Snow cover often persists on higher ground into April and May (and occasionally early June) and is likely to be encountered along a significant portion of the hike (your host has a stock of snowshoes if needed). We recommend joining this trip in July and August for the warmest temperatures, but it’s great all summer.
In any month it can rain and get chilly at night so waterproofs, good hiking boots, a warm jumper and some thermals are vital. This time of year daylight in Norway is constant with only 2–3 hours of darkness in the evenings.
Incredible adventure!
Let's start with the stunning scenery! Out of this world! Our guide Reid was very knowledgeable, considerate and funny! We got hit by a storm, but everything was still handled to it's best backup plan!
Still buzzing
Epic 4 day adventure through the Norwegian fjords that was absolutely unforgettable, and a huge part of that was thanks to our incredible guide, Katie - knowledgeable, upbeat, and always calm under pressure, amazing in every way. The group dynamic was perfect; strangers at first, we bonded super quick through shared experiences, laughter, and the adventure of paddling through fjords, setting up camp and roasting marshmallows (and socks!) on an open fire. Every day brought fantastic scenery, real connection, and a deep sense of accomplishment out in the wilds of Norway. A week later, I’m still buzzing with energy and can’t stop talking about it - this trip has totally raised the bar for me and I can’t wait to book my next adventure!
Awesome, but the camping was more uncomfortable than I was expecting
This was a properly awesome experience in terms of setting and scenery. The views whilst kayaking were absolutely spectacular and the hike was very tough, but amazing.
I was, however, not expecting the full group (we were split up into 3x ~10 person groups) to be so big with a few other groups only being a hundred meters down the shore; so I really appreciated our guide, Reid, trying to make sure we had a more individual experience and staggering our starts to be able to appreciate the landscapes fully.
I was also not expecting the camping to be quite so uncomfortable. I was always worried a little about the camping situation and was not expecting too much, but at the very least I was expecting them to tell us in advance that they were not providing any kind of pillow. The tents were relatively small (I would definitely not have wanted to share with a stranger so closely) and just a thin camping matt to sleep on. The cooking setup was great and a little above expectations, though, especially with some dietary requirements that I thought were dealt with very well.
Our (Canadian) guide, Reid, was great in general. However, I was also hoping for a guide who was at least from Norway, which none of the guides for any group were. So that was a little bit of a shame too.
Over delivered
Just do this trip. It's everything you imagine. The photos never do it justice.
A 3 night kayak extravaganza
Amazing trip, struggling to transition back to reality from the beautiful scenery and phenomenal experiences! The trip was really well organised from the get go, and no aspect was left to chance. The hike and kayaking were fantastic - we were lucky with the weather but equally it’s not as hard as some reviews make out if you do some basic training and ensure your boots fit well! The camping set up was comfortable and catered to all levels of outdoors experience. Jonny (our guide) was the perfect blend of fun and professional behaviour, always going that extra mile to make sure all members of the group felt included, as well as being an amazing camp chef (especially given the set up!) Now my only dilemma is which trip to do next?
Fabulous trip!!
The mini adventure was one of the coolest things I've ever done. Some usual fears about how I would get on with 12 strangers were quickly dispelled as the group got to know each other. Organisation was excellent. Food and equipment was exceptional.
Absolutely wonderful trip! Beautiful views on every level - from sea level to summit tops. If you want to experience the fjords as fully as possible, this is the best way to do it. Minimal prep on the client's side and the tour guides were extremely professional and accommodating- making sure that you enjoyed your trip instead of rushing through the kayaking and hiking. I would like to try the 5 day tour at a later time.
Much better than I ever Imagined!
What a weekend! The scenery in Norway is Epic. . . that is a given. But the attention to detail from Nordic Adventures and our guide Brody was what really made the trip. The equipment provided was great, amazing cosy sleeping bags (I did take along my own inflatable sleeping matt for extra comfort). The food was great quality and plentiful. . . and i now have a new favourite sandwich of salmon and pesto! Brody did an awesome job cooking for us, and breaking out the snacks just when needed. The hike is mega. . 25km through Epic scenery. . . none of it too challenging in terrain but be prepared for a long day and snow up the top! If you're thinking about this trip. . . just go! You won't regret it!

I’ve just finished this trip
I’ve just finished this trip and had the most fabulous time. Great trip, with stunning scenery. We had a mix of all weathers which meant we saw some lovely waterfalls along the fjord too. The hike was challenging but so worth it. And our guide Katie was wonderful. Kept everyone safe and seen and we ate so well. Would recommend to anyone
Exhilarating. . . .
A simply exhilarating few days amongst stunning scenery that takes your breath away. A fantastic trip, expertly overseen by our guide, Reid, who somehow juggled being a knowledgeable guide, and a fantastic cook (catering excellently for vegan diet) with being calm, fun and an all round brilliant guide whilst still having time to keep us safe, and superbly entertained throughout. It's a good, healthy workout over the 3 days but one that I'll remember for a long time and one that leaves me wanting more. Expertly organised throughout.
Amazing
Do not hesitate to book this trip. It is everything and more. Emma our guide was insanely good and from start to finish everything was perfect!

Trip was very well organised.
Trip was very well organised. The level of information and support we received through-out was good. The catering in particular, provided during activities and camp was unexpected and fantastic which ensured excellant value for money. We are already looking for our next 'much better adventure'. . . .

This is a really well
This is a really well organised trip in such a beautiful place. Our guide, Emma was really friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and really made us feel like we were in safe hands. We lucked out on the weather for the whole trip and had glorious sunshine for the hike, followed by a wild swim in the fjord by the wild camping spot. The scenery and closeness to nature was spectacular and it was such a wholesome trip. I would really recommend!
A much needed escape in the Norwegian fjords
Have just got back from the Norwegian fjords adventure with my brother and despite feeling a teensy bit broken (2 nights roughing it in a tent will do that to a girl!) I am filled with so much joy, happiness and memories of an incredible few days. The group was brilliant, we all bonded so well and had such a laugh together - so much so there is talk of us all arranging another trip together! The activities were awesome, the scenery staggeringly beautiful, the weather spot on, we literally couldn't have asked for anything better than what we got. Looking forward to choosing our next adventure :)

Unforgettable experience- with fabulous host
My friends and I had the most incredible three night hike and kayak for my 40th birthday. Emma was the best possible host. She really looked after us (physically -given we had some injuries in the group- but all still made it up!) and in making delicious food. I have never seen someone work so hard. She didn’t stop. The scenery was stunning and we had great weather in the first two days, but a fair amount of rain on the third (early June).
I would highly recommend poles for the walk and a small inflatable mattress and pillow if you are a camping wimp like me!
A beautiful trip and one I will never forget. A tough walk but very much doable if you are relatively fit

The perfect adventure
If you're even thinking about exploring the Norwegian Fjords, stop thinking and book it now. This trip was nothing short of spectacular—a soul-stirring mix of breathtaking scenery, exhilarating adventure, and deeply rewarding moments of peace and awe.
From the moment we met Callum, our guide, I knew we were in good hands. A calm, confident personality with good humour thrown in. Callum was a walking encyclopaedia of the region, a natural leader, and somehow always three steps ahead when it came to anticipating our needs (the sweets on the hike were much appreciated!). Callum elevated every moment of the trip, with tidbits about the local area, motivational boosters up 'the struggle', and I never saw him without a smile, even when the heavens opened at lunch as he pitched a shelter in seconds and prepared our lunch!
The kayaking through the fjords felt like something out of a dream. We paddled amongst towering cliffs and glassy, silent waters that reflected the sky like a mirror. At times, it was just us, the mountains, and the sound of our paddles slicing through the water. Magical doesn't even begin to cover it.
Camping each night was an experience unto itself. Book not needed - we whiled the hours away next to the campfire sipping wine, toasting marshmallows, non-stop laughing and sharing tales, just soaking in the raw unfiltered beauty of the snow-capped mountains. Callum worked non-stop, cooking delicious meals, cleaning, packing for the next day. . . now I am home I am having to readjust somewhat and I don't like it.
The hike was fantastic, starting down in the lush green forest, gradually rising through the valleys, along stepping stones, through the fields, before rising on to the incredible landscape on top, where we crossed snow bridges and boulders to arrive at the summit. We had a mix of abilities in our group, but with frequent breaks and good leadership by Callum no one was left behind.
I have to make a special shout out to the group I was with. This was my first ever solo trip, and I was quite nervous. I need not have been - never have I felt more at home with a group of like-minded people - my stomach hurts from the non-stop laughing, and everyone was so kind to each other and engaged in conversation. Everyone was an absolute delight and sitting here I really miss their company. If you're reading this - thanks guys!
Five stars isn’t enough. Book now!
Norway - Kayak and Hike - What a Weekend
I had no idea what to expect from this long weekend but I was blown away. The beauty of the fjords cannot ever be fully explained. The kayaking was tremendous and I loved every moment. The hike wasn't what I would describe as a hike to be honest; it was hugely challenging in some places and a little more than a 'moderate' hike in my view but a huge accomplishment and the view from the top was amazing. Was very lucky to have a tremendous group, all of whom got on really well and new friends met.
Beautiful country and a real challenge
What a stunningly beautiful country to have visited. The fjords are simply breathtaking. Kayaking was great fun, with a fabulous group of people. The hike (and I do a lot of hiking) was a real challenge and not to be taken lightly. If you’ve got dodgy knees, take plenty of painkillers. Campsite was in a beautiful location though wasn’t quite ready for the manual labour involved. Overall a great experience and somewhere I plan to return

Book it and go!
This trip exceeded all expectations! Couldn’t have asked for any better. Food was tasty and plenty (and accommodated lactose intolerance really well). Activities were well structured and laid out so that you had time to enjoy and recover without rushing — and a lot of this was down to our fantastic guide, Ian. He is so intuitively good at knowing what the group needs and when to check in and with whom, making the tough bits of the hike feel a little less daunting, and making all of the good bits that bit better. Highly recommend!

10/10 no notes!
Loved this trip, it was exactly as described but exceeded expectations. The scenery was beyond spectacular at every point of this trip. The tour itself was really well organised and flowed seamlessly. Our guide in the fjords was Lydia, who was knowledgeable, friendly and super efficient. We lucked out with the weather and were treated to glorious sunshine for the hike and final day kayak. The group were a merry mix of folk, with plenty of laughs and encouragement. Couldn’t fault any part of the trip, thank you!

The three nights were just
The three nights were just the right amount. Our guide, Lydia, was well organised and made sure everything went smoothly. The hostel was so much better than expected. Jan and his team are all very kind and you feel relaxed being around them. The kayaking was east but the hike tougher so the medium difficulty rating is about right. I would definitely book another trip with MBA and/or Nordic Ventures.

Absolutely stunning!
My partner and I had the most wonderful time. We met interesting, kind, positive and wonderful people. We felt very blessed with our group. Our guide, Reid, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and fun, but also made sure we kept safe where necessary. I loved that we all helped out with cleaning and prep -- it added to the sense of community and kindness. The scenery was breathtaking. We had sun, rain and even a mini-blizzard on top of the mountain! You get randomly split into groups and allocated a camp-site. I think they try keep solo-women travellers together, which is lovely. The launch from shore for kayaking is staggered, so you always feel you are in a very small group. On the hike, we only passed another group once. The long drops all had lots of sanitiser and toilet paper and really weren't bad at all. Far better and cleaner than portaloos at concerts! Dishes were rinsed in the fjord but then washed with dish-soap in a big pot of hot water, so everything is nice and clean. Tips:
- You finish at a different site and then catch the bus back to base where left your clean change of clothes/other luggage. Make sure you have comfy clothes on top of your drybag for this 40min ride! It can be very rushed getting onto the bus.
- Don't let things push against the side of the tent from the inside -- if it rains, they will get wet!
- Gloves saved a few of us from blisters while kayaking
- Waterproof pants ensured I was comfy for the rain and snow on the hike. Started hot and sunny, but the weather changes very fast up there. Pack layers!
- Try find a level-ish spot for your tent so you don't roll in the night too much and bring a small pillow to sleep on
- My Osprey Tempest 20l with a small plastic frame managed to fit into the kayaks. (I have back problems which a frame helps with)

I have just been on the Hiking, Kayaking and Wild Camping trip in the Norwegian Fjords and it was easily one of the best trips I have ever done. Right from the point of booking the trip up until being dropped off at the airport at the end, everything ran extremely smoothly. The booking process was so easy and the option of convenient payments to suit your budget is a huge bonus. Communication throughout the booking and the information provided was excellent and any questions were always handled very efficiently and with a minimum of fuss. I had an issue joining the trip WhatsApp group so contacted MBA and Katarina in the Customer Experience Team responded and helped really quickly. She was very professional, efficient and friendly in her communications and was a real star. The trip itself was just incredible - everything about it was perfect, the scenery stunning, the equipment in good order and well maintained - really, no faults at all with any of it. We were very lucky to have Callum as our guide and he was, quite simply, an absolute legend. He was very knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, always had a smile on his face, and was always willing to help and very cheerful, he also joined in with the group banter brilliantly - really the perfect guide for this sort of trip. The group that I was in was a really good mix of people and everyone got along so well which was fantastic - it was such a funny group of people so the conversation and laughs just kept rolling. All in, such an amazing experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend MBA and am already looking at booking the next trip with them.

Stunning views, super organised and lovely guide
A super fun trip full of stunning views, dramatic waterfalls and a cosy campsite. Our guide Lydia was extremely knowledgeable and planned everything fabulously, including choosing the perfect weather window for our hike. The whole tour was very easy and well organised, and well paced to allow for down time as well as adventure. Thank you!

Fantastic trip
Amazing trip to Norway with just the best Guide , Johnny This is quite an energetic trip & hike nit to be undertaken lightly ! I am a regular hiker & found hike amazing but enough for one day ! There is a very steep section of hike which is tough both up & down Johnny looked after us in every way , encouraging , supportive , informative & great cook ! I have no hesitation in recommending this trip & Much Better Adventures to the active
Amazing scenery
My second time on this trip! First time was so good that I wanted to share the experience with my partner.
Over 5 years had passed since the first trip. Nordic adventures have grown a lot since then. There were 4 separate groups of roughly 10. I was in a relaxed group that waited for the other groups to set up before packing our own kayaks. Unfortunately that meant we had the worst kayaks. . . . mine did not have a back support or seat that was adequate, just a shoe lace intended to hold in place, which of course failed. I'm ex army and just carried on but after hours of kayaking this was uncomfortable on the hip flexors. Taking away from the experience. I know others had to squeeze into small kayaks and some were forced to share a double.
I feel like day 1 was a waste. We could have prepared the wet bags for the trip from the hostel meaning the day 2 start would have been more fluent.
Really liked our instructor, he was great. The group was great. Of course the scenery amazing.
Overall it was brilliant, I was just disappointed that nordic adventures have not re invested into their equipment and also failed to organise staggered trips to the set off point with kayaks.
Johnny made the trip exceptional!
I’ve returned from an incredible Much Better Adventures trip to Norway, and I genuinely can’t speak highly enough of the experience, especially thanks to our guide, Johnny. From start to finish, the trip was seamless, thoughtfully planned, and brilliantly executed.
Johnny was everything you’d want in a guide: calm, confident, and incredibly capable. He carried an air of ease and reassurance that made even the more challenging parts of the trip feel exciting rather than intimidating. Johnny’s leadership and preparation were superb.
One moment stood out in particular, kayaking when unexpected high winds kicked up, and I found myself struggling. Without hesitation, Johnny knew exactly what to do. His swift and steady response turned what could have been a stressful situation into one where I felt safe, supported, and completely looked after.
It’s also clear that a huge amount of behind-the-scenes work went into preparing this adventure. Every location, every meal, every transition between activities was smooth and well-considered. The team clearly put a lot of thought into creating something special.
Thank you, Johnny, and thank you to the Much Better Adventures team. You made this trip not only possible, but exceptional. I’ll be recommending this to everyone I know and hoping to book another one soon.
Wild Camping in the Norwegian Fjords
Had a great weekend wild camping in the Norwegian Fjords. We were lucky with the weather and the hike which I would describe as a little harder than "medium" would have been challenging if raining. It was odd that we arrived Friday lunchtime and then left to our own devices until the weekend got underway on Saturday morning, but I would overall say we had an amazing weekend, a different kind of experience with a great group of people. Our guide was also excellent.

What an experience and such a stunning country 🇳🇴
My partner and I did the 3 day kayaking, camping and hiking; an epic and memorable trip ❤️ We had an amazing group and Reid our guide was simply brilliant, knowledgeable, engaging, enthusiastic and a pretty good chef as well 👍🏼
The trip was well organised from pick up to end, the scenery was awe inspiring, the kayaking was amazing, well looked after and felt safe throughout, the camping was good (a thicker bed roll and it would have been perfect) the hike was a challenge but so absolutely worth it.
Would recommend this to anyone who wants to see the wilder side of the fjords 👍🏼

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 47kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
The trip will be split into groups of up to 12 people. Let us know if you are travelling with friends, and we will make sure you are in the same group as friends who have booked.
Our local host operates multiple trips starting on the same date, so for your included group transfers between Bergen and Voss, you'll share a coach. When you are dropped off at your accommodation in Voss, your host will let you know who will be in your group so you can introduce yourselves and perhaps grab some dinner together. On your first night, although the rooms at the hostel in Voss are multi-share, you won't necessarily be sharing with people from your group due to room configurations and gender mix. When you arrive at the kayaking base in Gudvangen the next day, you'll separate into your group of up to 12 and hit the water.
One of the most beautiful places in the world. A fjord is a deep, narrow and elongated part of the sea, that stretches inland for miles, winding around mountains, valleys, and steep cliffs. The fjords were formed by the giant glacier tongues and shaped over several ice ages.
Most groups will have a mix of single and double kayaks. If you’d prefer a single, let your host know in advance and they’ll do their best to make it happen, but it can’t be guaranteed. They need to balance kayak-to-guide safety ratios and juggle the fleet across multiple groups. If you start out in a double and fancy trying a single (or vice versa), have a chat with your fellow adventurers, someone might be up for a swap during the trip. If you're unsure about your paddling strength or confidence, sharing a double with a stronger member of the group can be a great shout.
You're free to bring any luggage or suitcase you wish with you to Voss. On day 2, you'll check out of your accommodation with all of your luggage and transfer by bus to the host's kayaking base in Gudvangen. Here, you'll be given a 22-litre dry bag to pack everything into for your kayaking, camping and hiking adventure (excluding your sleeping bag and sleeping mat, unless you bring your own). You will be given a hard waterproof case for your camera/phone too, and you'll want to keep certain things handy such as your water bottle, cap, sunscreen and snacks. You'll need to pack light as your dry bag has to fit into the hatched compartments (bulkheads) of the kayak, along with the group's food and equipment which will be shared among the kayaks. The remainder of your luggage that you don't need on the adventure can be left behind at the kayaking base in Gudvangen, where it will be safely stored until your return.
Don't stress, your host will explain all during the briefing.
Absolutely. The train is 45 minutes faster than the included transfer and is one of the most spectacular journeys you can take by rail. Here’s how:
From the airport, get the Flybussen airport shuttle to Bergen bus station, or the Bybanen (city light rail - cheaper but slower). Buses to/from the airport run every 10-15 minutes, and cost roughly 90NOK (£9) each way. The Bybanen is approx 40NOK (£4).
From the bus station it’s a few minutes walk to the train station. A taxi from the airport to train station can be booked for between 350-550NOK (£35-£55), depending on traffic.
Trains run regularly throughout the day and don’t need to be booked in advance, with a single ticket to Voss costing roughly 200NOK (£20). Trains to Oslo stop at Voss.
You can buy tickets at the ticket office up until 5.30 pm, or from ticket machines. If you want to check the timetable or book online head here.
Voss Hostel is a 12 minute walk from the station. Head out of the main station and turn right on the road. Follow the road until just before the roundabout (about 750m) then take the left turning, following the road for 200m more - straight to the hostel.
For the return, make your life easy by jumping on the already included transfers to Bergen Airport.
We can recommend the following from budget to high price. There are many other hotels, however these are selected for their convenience and/or from experience:
Accommodation in Voss
- Voss Hostel - great prices for individuals, couples or large groups.
- Voss Camping Cabins - ideal for small groups of 3 to 4.
- Store Ringheim Hotel - perfect for cosy traditional rooms and great food.
Accommodation in Bergen
- Montana Hostel - great prices for individuals, couples or large groups.
- Grand Terminus Hotel - Older style but right next to the train station.
- Thon Bristol Hotel - great central city location for sightseeing and nightlife.
- First Marin Hotel - great central city location for sightseeing and nightlife.
Here’s what your local guide has to say on drones:
We do not really encourage bringing drones on this trip for several reasons:
- There are limited times where there would be possibilities for flying the drone.
- We need to keep the campsites free of drone traffic in agreement with the landowners.
- There is often livestock animals in some areas that may get affected and we need to keep a good relationship with the farmers.
- We have seen some people being frustrated by drone traffic and can understand this.
Having said this, we do not prohibit drone use as it is out of our legislation. As long as it does not interfere with the issues mentioned above and you can fit the drone in the kayak, it will be OK to bring it along. Just please do discuss the use with other group members sometime after meeting up with them on the first morning to settle this.
The best way to meet your host is to take the train from Oslo centre to Voss (not Bergen), and then head to Voss Hostel. See the FAQ how to get to Voss hostel from the airport and just follow the directions from Voss station to the hostel. The train journey takes about 6.5 hours and goes through some amazing scenery.
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).
For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
