Key Information
Day 1
Meet your crew

Wave goodbye to the office and head to Bergen, where you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation in Voss. After settling into your hostel, you can head out to grab dinner locally. If you're feeling brave, you could try a quick dip in the chilly Vangsvatnet Lake before settling in for a good night’s sleep ahead of hitting the water tomorrow.
Day 2
Kayaking the Nærøyfjord

Kayaking
Grab breakfast at your hostel before hopping in the van to head to the put-in point at Gudvangen. When you arrive, your guide will get you set up with your wetsuit, kayaking boots, dry bag, waterproof camera/phone box and all of your kayaking gear. You'll have a safety briefing and an introduction to sea kayaking before heading out for your first day of unforgettable paddling down the beautiful Nærøyfjord. You'll stop off along the way for breaks and to admire the scenery, before arriving at the campsite by late afternoon. Kick back and enjoy the stunning scenery before tucking into a hot dinner and making merry around the campfire. If you're feeling up to it, there is the option of going for a short walk to get a better view of the fjord from above.
Day 3
Hike to the highlands 1000m above the fjord

Hiking
Wake up in a Norwegian paradise and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before packing your bag, ready for the day's hike. Your aim is to reach the Breiskrednosi summit, which is 1189m above the Nærøyfjord and offers a spectacular view of the fjord from above. Drink in the views over the fjord from the top with your group, before heading back down to the campsite. Enjoy dinner around the campfire before another night under the stars.
Day 4
Kayak past cliff faces and waterfalls before heading home

Kayaking
Continue kayaking north along the Nærøyfjord, exploring magnificent cliffs and remote waterfalls, keeping your eye out for seals along the way. Arrive mid-afternoon at the remote – and totally picturesque – village of Undredal, before heading to the airport in time for your flight home.

What is the food like?

The portions are more than generous, all the food is fresh and any dietary requirements can be met – just tell us your preferences when you book. Dinner and breakfast are prepared by your guide over a campfire, the menu will vary but you can expect things like rice and pasta with fresh vegetables, egg, bacon and sausages. There is also bread and sandwich filler for lunch breaks. Water, tea and coffee are also readily available as well as wine for the evenings.
What is the accommodation like?

Voss
On your first night, you'll be staying in same-sex dorms in a simple, clean hostel in Voss. Occasionally alternative accommodation is provided in cabins at Gudvangen Camping (close to the kayaking base) or in a simple hotel in Brandseth.
Fjord Edge
On the second and third night, you'll paddle to a beach and sleep in a tent under the stars. Sleeping mats and sleeping bags are provided, but you can bring your own if you prefer. There is no shower, and toilets are basic to say the least - it is wild camping after all.
Upgrades
If you'd prefer your own room in Voss, your host offers an optional upgrade to a private room at Voss Hostel or alternatively at the 4-star Park Hotel Voss (subject to availability). Park Hotel is conveniently located about 150m from the train station and right on the lakefront. Please see Optional Extras for prices - we recommend that you request this at the time of booking to avoid disappointment.
This trip has been rated as Moderate
You really do not need any kayaking experience. Your guide will give you full instructions and a safety briefing at the start. You’ll just need reasonable levels of fitness to handle approx 25km of relaxed paddling over two days, a day of hiking and be up for camping out overnight.
The hike is not for beginners and is very challenging, particularly if it is or has been wet. You'll gain over a thousand metres in elevation during the hike and early in the season (April, May and occasionally early June) there can be snow on the ground (sometimes quite deep) which adds to the challenge. The same can apply late in the season too. We would only recommend this hike if you are an active person with hiking experience. It just takes a bit of time getting up the steep section but don’t worry, it’s no race to the top.
The route is about 10km each way, making a total hike of 20.7km. The elevation is sea level to 1,189m and quite steep in places. The hike is about 8 to 11 hours return, with an awesome view from the ridge at the top to the fjord below.
What if i need to skip an activity?
There should be no problem with staying back at camp during the hiking day for someone not wanting to hike. It may also be possible to just come along for the first part of the hike and then return to the camp, this does depend on where the group is actually camped as this may affect options. Alternatively, you could consider booking the Kayak and Wild Camp Norwegian Fjords trip instead.
What will I need to carry?
For the hike, you'll only need to carry a small daypack with personal items, spare clothing layers, snacks, a packed lunch, and a water bottle. See the Kit List and FAQs for further details about packing and luggage.
The weather in summer is generally very comfortable for kayaking and camping, with temperatures of 15-20ºC, sometimes more. April and May typically see the lowest rainfall but days are cooler (typically 10-15ºC) and nights usually hover a few degrees above freezing. Snow cover often persists on higher ground into April and May (and occasionally early June) and is likely to be encountered along a significant portion of the hike (your host has a stock of snowshoes if needed). We recommend joining this trip in July and August for the warmest temperatures, but it’s great all summer.
In any month it can rain and get chilly at night so waterproofs, good hiking boots, a warm jumper and some thermals are vital. This time of year daylight in Norway is constant with only 2–3 hours of darkness in the evenings.
One of the best things I’ve done
Can only recommend going on this trip. Our guide Emily was extremely knowledgable, supportive and professional. Amazing at what she does and great with people. Everyone in the group was friendly and supportive and the whole time we had a great atmosphere.
Some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever experienced - peaceful beyond belief. All the equipment was good and ready, the food was great (plenty of it too) and the whole trip was positive.
The hike was awesome and chilling at camp and swimming throughout the mornings and evenings was just bliss. Kayaking great fun and the guide will accommodate all skill levels.
Be prepared for some bugs in the summer and I’d recommend extra base layers in case of rain (not cotton unless you like staying damp!) but whatever the weather you will have a good time. If you’ve got the chance - I highly recommend it.
A once-in-a-lifetime adventure in the fjords
I'd originally booked this trip in 2021 but couldn't attend due to covid restrictions and let me just say - it was worth the wait! It was an absolutely incredible, once-in-a-lifetime adventure. I knew the Norwegian fjords would be beautiful but nothing can quite prepare you for just how breathtaking they are in real life. Photos truly don’t do them justice. Being out there, surrounded by so much natural beauty, felt surreal at times.
The itinerary was the perfect balance of adventure and peaceful moments in nature. We hiked, kayaked, wild camped, and soaked up every moment of it. We were also incredibly lucky with the weather, which made everything even more special. One of the absolute highlights of the trip was the hike we did on the summer solstice followed by a dip in the fjords afterwards with the other girls on the trip. It’s a memory I’ll never forget!
Our guide was fantastic - knowledgeable, calm, and really looked after us every step of the way. It made such a difference knowing we were in great hands. The group dynamic was also brilliant and we had so many laughs and memorable moments over the 4 days.
If you’re considering this trip, don’t hesitate to book it! It’s beautifully organised, the scenery is out of this world, and the experience will stay with you long after you’ve left. I came away feeling recharged, inspired, and already dreaming about my next adventure!
Epic scenery, the friendliest bunch of people!
The scenery in the Norwegian fjords is breath taking. Pair this with an outstanding, friendly, knowledgeable guide - THANK YOU SO MUCH RYAN - and a lovely bunch of like minded individuals . . . and you get one of the best weekends away you could ask for!! I would highly recommend for anyone looking for adventure in a safe environment. Ryan our guide was always calm and somehow managed to keep us all on track and on time, without ever raising his voice. Bearing in mind most of us had never met before, Ryan's attituded instantly put everyone at ease, and it was easy to chat to each other and later on have lots of laughs with each other too! We worked as a team under Ryan's guidance and it felt so good to be involved and help with meal prep and washing up, setting out for lunch etc. The kayaking wasn't too strenuous. The walk was long, but for those epic views I feel like working for it was the best way to appreciate it that little bit more. Don't hesitate to book this trip!!
This was an amazing adventure
This was an amazing adventure with such lovely people. Our guide Emily was amazing, very knowledgeable and helpful in every way. I would definitely recommend this trip to my friends and family.
Hike/Kayak (July 2025)
Great trip really well organised by much better adventures. Emily our guide was second to none she had great knowledge and led our group perfectly not to mention her amazing cooking skills. Only consideration for MBA I’d suggest would be to resolve the toilet situation on the camping. They are completely unusable and people have took to taking a dump in the woods behind which makes collecting wood for the fire tricky…. . overall still a 5 stars trip though.
Great Weekend Away
An excellent way to spend a long weekend! The scenery was stunning and the combination of kayaking and hiking was great. The trip was well run by Nordic Ventures and our guide Katie was awesome and went above and beyond.
Beyond the description and beyond description
As long as you’re prepared for wild camping, with camping mat comfort and less than flushing toilets, this is an incredible adventure. The nature is stunning, really beyond description. Waking up and poking your head out of your tent and marvelling at what’s around never got old. The kayaking was fun and felt like a great workout and the hike was excellent - nothing too tough but still challenging. We got lucky with the weather - it was great throughout. I’m so glad I did this. Special kudos to our guide Ryan who went above and beyond and was just generally really fantastic
Breathtaking place and amazing guide
Absolutely stunning trip. The scenery was utterly mind-blowing, the activities were adventurous, the food was beautiful and our guide emily was brilliant, she was knowledgeable, friendly, and had everything under control to ensure we could relax and enjoy ourselves. Couldn't have asked for a better guide or better experience.
Amazing weekend
I had such an amazing time celebrating my birthday on this tour. Waking up to the beautiful fjords is Unforgettable. Mike our guide made sure we all had a great time and cooked brilliant food. Thank you 😊
Beautiful
Wonderful experience, well organized
Amazing Trip
This was an amazing adventure. Our guide Katie was superb. The group had lots of dietary requirements which were all catered for. The pace of kayaking and hiking was just right. The hike is long but not technical and manageable for all abilities so long as you’re prepared to be on your feet for 9 hours. Would absolutely recommend this trip.
Overall a fantastic trip from
Overall a fantastic trip from start to finish. Great bunch of people and our guide Emily was outstanding. On the negative side the hike was advised as moderate it was anything but moderate!! Toilet at the camp site was unusable absolutely disgusting, needed a health warning on the door.
Norway kayaking and hike
An absolutely amazing experience, our guide Johnny was brilliant, very knowledgeable, professional and an amazing cook too! Would highly recommend this trip.
A fantastic time in the Norwegian Fjords!
Had the most fantastic time exploring the Norwegian Fjords. Stunning scenery, a wonderful group and a fabulous guide, Ian. Could not recommend enough!
10/10 would recommend!
The views were immaculate, the kayaking was fun and engaging, and the hike was exhilarating with an awe-inspiring view that is now the background of my laptop :)
Mike was an incredible tour guide who was knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and able to foster a great vibe of camaraderie amongst the group. He also cooked a mean dinner!
Our 3 day kayak/hike adventure of a lifetime !
Not often I get away with both my daughters together on a trip … our 3 days kayaking, camping and hiking just blew us all away! Despite a rather damp first day/night, along with our lovely group ( all of whom were meeting for the first time !) and our great guide Benji we had the very best of times! Wonderfully organised, great fun, a major hiking challenge with the best view imaginable as your reward! Wish we could have stayed longer!
Excellent experience!
This was my first MBA trip so I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was better than I could have imagined. The description is accurate so expect tent camping and a hostel stay, but they are very nice. Our guide cooked tons of excellent food and they went out of their way to accommodate my gluten-free dietary requirement. I would love to go back and do a longer trip!
Brilliant trip
The kayaking and views are absolutely the way to see the fjords. Don’t hesitate. We lucked out with the weather. The hike was on the top end of moderate, and tbh what tipped it over to more challenging was the length of the day, more than the technically difficultly and steepness and the 11 hours on our feet. Our group had a relaxed pace, and view was amazing. There’s a 1km section about an hour before summit that’s tough up and down, slow and steady, steep and muddy, the rest is manageable for most, but it does involved walking over mud and through some streams. The camping spot is beautiful and peaceful. Even though in groups of up to 12, you do camp close to 4 or 5 other groups. The guides, were all fantastic. And you will not go hungry. Allergies etc well catered for
Fantastic experience all around!
Unforgettable
Just do it. The nature and scenery are wild. Organisation is top notch. Our guide Katie was the best, cooked delicious meals after grueling (but fantastic) days. Can't recommend more.

Incredible adventure
Epic trip! Highly recommend this adventure!

Awe-inspiring fjords
What a fantastic trip! My second MBA getaway and a first with Nordic Adventures. Everything was so well organised. You are met at Bergen Airport and transferred via coach to the hostel in Voss. Our guide, Ryan, was absolutely lovely… so chilled, patient and fun, he really put us at ease and kept us all together and safe for the kayaking and hiking. The hike itself is moderate to challenging I’d say depending on your fitness/experience. So worth it for those glorious views. Camping in the fjords was majestic. Top tips, take bug spray, an inflatable pillow, sleeping bag liner and gloves for kayaking. Lastly, enjoy an adventure of a lifetime!!

Best trip yet
Excellent trip, well organised, well stocked up, itinery, food, equipment etc was absolutely amazing, our guide katie from Nordic Ventures was excellent, welcoming, knowledgable and an excellent cook.

Brilliant experience
The whole trip was amazing. Our guide Ryan really catered for all our needs and was patient with us throughout. Very hardworking dude 👏 . The scenery is stunning, everything was given to you when you arrived so there was really nothing to worry about before going on this trip. Would definitely do this trip again!
Great trip
Fantastic to meet a great group of people, beautiful scenery, capable guide taking on not just keeping us together, guiding us for kayaking and mountain climbing but also all the cooking and general organising!😁
Amazing Experience
I had an amazing experience over the 3 days. Day one was tough in the rain but our brilliant guide David kept the sprits up. Top tips; bring top and bottoms for under the wetsuit, an inflatable pillow, an eye mask, plenty of layers and wear the recommended gloves kayaking. Go, you won’t regret it.
Good fun with great people.
Norwegian Fjords 3 day hike and kayak
We have just done the 3 day kayaking and hiking tour of the Norwegian Fjords. The scenery was stunning and we were so lucky with the weather. The food was great and there was always plenty of it. Our guide was very good and couldn't do enough to help people. The kayaking was about 4 hours each day and the hike was about 10 hours and the view at the top was definitely worth the really steep climb up, along with the stunning views on the way. The hike was the right amount of challenge, for people with a good level of fitness.
Excellent trip
We had a fantastic time on the 3 day trip. Nordic Ventures, the company that runs the trip, were very organised and professional. Our guide, Mike, was brilliant - he provided lots of practical guidance and created a great atmosphere on the trip. We were fortunate to have a fun group of people and great weather. The kayaking and hike were very doable and the scenery was amazing.
Fab 3 day kayak and hike
The experience was truly fantastic. Shout out to David from Nordic Adventures who was our guide. He kept spirits up during the wetter weather that first day and took care of us all throughout the trip. Would 100% recommend.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 47kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
The trip will be split into groups of up to 12 people. Let us know if you are travelling with friends, and we will make sure you are in the same group as friends who have booked.
Our local host operates multiple trips starting on the same date, so for your included group transfers between Bergen and Voss, you'll share a coach. When you are dropped off at your accommodation in Voss, your host will let you know who will be in your group so you can introduce yourselves and perhaps grab some dinner together. On your first night, although the rooms at the hostel in Voss are multi-share, you won't necessarily be sharing with people from your group due to room configurations and gender mix. When you arrive at the kayaking base in Gudvangen the next day, you'll separate into your group of up to 12 and hit the water.
One of the most beautiful places in the world. A fjord is a deep, narrow and elongated part of the sea, that stretches inland for miles, winding around mountains, valleys, and steep cliffs. The fjords were formed by the giant glacier tongues and shaped over several ice ages.
Most groups will have a mix of single and double kayaks. If you’d prefer a single, let your host know in advance and they’ll do their best to make it happen, but it can’t be guaranteed. They need to balance kayak-to-guide safety ratios and juggle the fleet across multiple groups. If you start out in a double and fancy trying a single (or vice versa), have a chat with your fellow adventurers, someone might be up for a swap during the trip. If you're unsure about your paddling strength or confidence, sharing a double with a stronger member of the group can be a great shout.
You're free to bring any luggage or suitcase you wish with you to Voss. On day 2, you'll check out of your accommodation with all of your luggage and transfer by bus to the host's kayaking base in Gudvangen. Here, you'll be given a 22-litre dry bag to pack everything into for your kayaking, camping and hiking adventure (excluding your sleeping bag and sleeping mat, unless you bring your own). You will be given a hard waterproof case for your camera/phone too, and you'll want to keep certain things handy such as your water bottle, cap, sunscreen and snacks. You'll need to pack light as your dry bag has to fit into the hatched compartments (bulkheads) of the kayak, along with the group's food and equipment which will be shared among the kayaks. The remainder of your luggage that you don't need on the adventure can be left behind at the kayaking base in Gudvangen, where it will be safely stored until your return.
Don't stress, your host will explain all during the briefing.
Absolutely. The train is 45 minutes faster than the included transfer and is one of the most spectacular journeys you can take by rail. Here’s how:
From the airport, get the Flybussen airport shuttle to Bergen bus station, or the Bybanen (city light rail - cheaper but slower). Buses to/from the airport run every 10-15 minutes, and cost roughly 90NOK (£9) each way. The Bybanen is approx 40NOK (£4).
From the bus station it’s a few minutes walk to the train station. A taxi from the airport to train station can be booked for between 350-550NOK (£35-£55), depending on traffic.
Trains run regularly throughout the day and don’t need to be booked in advance, with a single ticket to Voss costing roughly 200NOK (£20). Trains to Oslo stop at Voss.
You can buy tickets at the ticket office up until 5.30 pm, or from ticket machines. If you want to check the timetable or book online head here.
Voss Hostel is a 12 minute walk from the station. Head out of the main station and turn right on the road. Follow the road until just before the roundabout (about 750m) then take the left turning, following the road for 200m more - straight to the hostel.
For the return, make your life easy by jumping on the already included transfers to Bergen Airport.
We can recommend the following from budget to high price. There are many other hotels, however these are selected for their convenience and/or from experience:
Accommodation in Voss
- Voss Hostel - great prices for individuals, couples or large groups.
- Voss Camping Cabins - ideal for small groups of 3 to 4.
- Store Ringheim Hotel - perfect for cosy traditional rooms and great food.
Accommodation in Bergen
- Montana Hostel - great prices for individuals, couples or large groups.
- Grand Terminus Hotel - Older style but right next to the train station.
- Thon Bristol Hotel - great central city location for sightseeing and nightlife.
- First Marin Hotel - great central city location for sightseeing and nightlife.
Here’s what your local guide has to say on drones:
We do not really encourage bringing drones on this trip for several reasons:
- There are limited times where there would be possibilities for flying the drone.
- We need to keep the campsites free of drone traffic in agreement with the landowners.
- There is often livestock animals in some areas that may get affected and we need to keep a good relationship with the farmers.
- We have seen some people being frustrated by drone traffic and can understand this.
Having said this, we do not prohibit drone use as it is out of our legislation. As long as it does not interfere with the issues mentioned above and you can fit the drone in the kayak, it will be OK to bring it along. Just please do discuss the use with other group members sometime after meeting up with them on the first morning to settle this.
The best way to meet your host is to take the train from Oslo centre to Voss (not Bergen), and then head to Voss Hostel. See the FAQ how to get to Voss hostel from the airport and just follow the directions from Voss station to the hostel. The train journey takes about 6.5 hours and goes through some amazing scenery.
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.
Don't just take our word for it:
- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends
