Key Information
Day 1
Meet your crew

Wave goodbye to the office and head to Bergen, where you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation in Voss. After settling into your hostel, you can head out to grab dinner locally. If you're feeling brave, you could try a quick dip in the chilly Vangsvatnet Lake before settling in for a good night’s sleep ahead of hitting the water tomorrow.
Day 2
Kayaking the Nærøyfjord

Kayaking
Grab breakfast at your hostel before hopping in the van to head to the put-in point at Gudvangen. When you arrive, your guide will get you set up with your wetsuit, kayaking boots, dry bag, waterproof camera/phone box and all of your kayaking gear. You'll have a safety briefing and an introduction to sea kayaking before heading out for your first day of unforgettable paddling down the beautiful Nærøyfjord. You'll stop off along the way for breaks and to admire the scenery, before arriving at the campsite by late afternoon. Kick back and enjoy the stunning scenery before tucking into a hot dinner and making merry around the campfire. If you're feeling up to it, there is the option of going for a short walk to get a better view of the fjord from above.
Day 3
Hike to the highlands 1000m above the fjord

Hiking
Wake up in a Norwegian paradise and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before packing your bag, ready for the day's hike. Your aim is to reach the Breiskrednosi summit, which is 1189m above the Nærøyfjord and offers a spectacular view of the fjord from above. Drink in the views over the fjord from the top with your group, before heading back down to the campsite. Enjoy dinner around the campfire before another night under the stars.
Day 4
Kayak past cliff faces and waterfalls before heading home

Kayaking
Continue kayaking north along the Nærøyfjord, exploring magnificent cliffs and remote waterfalls, keeping your eye out for seals along the way. Arrive mid-afternoon at the remote – and totally picturesque – village of Undredal, before heading to the airport in time for your flight home.

What is the food like?

The portions are more than generous, all the food is fresh and any dietary requirements can be met – just tell us your preferences when you book. Dinner and breakfast are prepared by your guide over a campfire, the menu will vary but you can expect things like rice and pasta with fresh vegetables, egg, bacon and sausages. There is also bread and sandwich filler for lunch breaks. Water, tea and coffee are also readily available as well as wine for the evenings.
What is the accommodation like?

Voss
On your first night, you'll be staying in same-sex dorms in a simple, clean hostel in Voss. Occasionally alternative accommodation is provided in cabins at Gudvangen Camping (close to the kayaking base) or in a simple hotel in Brandseth.
Fjord Edge
On the second and third night, you'll paddle to a beach and sleep in a tent under the stars. Sleeping mats and sleeping bags are provided, but you can bring your own if you prefer. There is no shower, and toilets are basic to say the least - it is wild camping after all.
Upgrades
If you'd prefer your own room in Voss, your host offers an optional upgrade to a private room at Voss Hostel or alternatively at the 4-star Park Hotel Voss (subject to availability). Park Hotel is conveniently located about 150m from the train station and right on the lakefront. Please see Optional Extras for prices - we recommend that you request this at the time of booking to avoid disappointment.
This trip has been rated as Moderate
You really do not need any kayaking experience. Your guide will give you full instructions and a safety briefing at the start. You’ll just need reasonable levels of fitness to handle approx 25km of relaxed paddling over two days, a day of hiking and be up for camping out overnight.
The hike is not for beginners and is very challenging, particularly if it is or has been wet. You'll gain over a thousand metres in elevation during the hike and early in the season (April, May and occasionally early June) there can be snow on the ground (sometimes quite deep) which adds to the challenge. The same can apply late in the season too. We would only recommend this hike if you are an active person with hiking experience. It just takes a bit of time getting up the steep section but don’t worry, it’s no race to the top.
The route is about 10km each way, making a total hike of 20.7km. The elevation is sea level to 1,189m and quite steep in places. The hike is about 8 to 11 hours return, with an awesome view from the ridge at the top to the fjord below.
What if i need to skip an activity?
There should be no problem with staying back at camp during the hiking day for someone not wanting to hike. It may also be possible to just come along for the first part of the hike and then return to the camp, this does depend on where the group is actually camped as this may affect options. Alternatively, you could consider booking the Kayak and Wild Camp Norwegian Fjords trip instead.
What will I need to carry?
For the hike, you'll only need to carry a small daypack with personal items, spare clothing layers, snacks, a packed lunch, and a water bottle. See the Kit List and FAQs for further details about packing and luggage.
The weather in summer is generally very comfortable for kayaking and camping, with temperatures of 15-20ºC, sometimes more. April and May typically see the lowest rainfall but days are cooler (typically 10-15ºC) and nights usually hover a few degrees above freezing. Snow cover often persists on higher ground into April and May (and occasionally early June) and is likely to be encountered along a significant portion of the hike (your host has a stock of snowshoes if needed). We recommend joining this trip in July and August for the warmest temperatures, but it’s great all summer.
In any month it can rain and get chilly at night so waterproofs, good hiking boots, a warm jumper and some thermals are vital. This time of year daylight in Norway is constant with only 2–3 hours of darkness in the evenings.
Much wetter adventures
Epic scenery. Great and funny people. So much packed into 1 weekend. The hike on day 3 to the top with views over the fjords was amazing. Trip well organised and the food cooked on the camp fire by our guide Jonny was delicious. Highly recommend.
Norwegian fjord adventure
This is a short but worthwhile trip. Kayak-hike-kayak worked out to be a perfect combination to enjoy the fjords from the water, to give your arms a break on the hike and then give your legs a break when kayaking! Being fit for this trip is recommended. The campsites are wonderful, on the "beaches" of the fjords with stunning views. The food was great and catered well for dietary requirements.
Great organisation and trip
This trip was so well planed and organised my life is not in 50% of this
3 Days Kayaking, Hiking & wild camping Norways majestic Fjords 🏔️ 🛶 🦅 🏕️
Just returned from Norway which included the 3 day kayaking with 14 mile day hike from Drydal with 1,000m ascent to the summit of Breiskrednosi
The entire trip was epic and our guide Callum the best we’ve encountered. As a guide Callum is incredibly professional, considerate to all, empathetic and super organised.
The hike was the most physical activity of the trip, taking us through rich woodlands and open valleys whilst crossing rapids and tranquil streams, then straight up onto steep snow covered terrain requiring snow shoes to complete the final section to the top.
This is a stunning destination for all nature lovers and adventurers at heart. Though challenging the hike is so rewarding, offering breath-taking views of surrounding cliffs, waterfalls, valleys, snow capped mountains and insanely impressive fjords at dizzying heights from the very edge of the summit.
All food and provisions, equipment, shore line stops, camping site location and facilities over the 3 days were excellent.
The only downside was when it all ended.
Thank you so much for such a memorable life experience
Amazing Wxperience
Great combination of kayaking and trekking. Beware however the trek is not ‘moderate’ as described in the literature. 7 hours up and 4 down. It’s nearly as tall as Ben Nevis. But the most enjoyable and beautiful experience. Great company to travel with. I am plant based and was very well accommodated.
Awesome 3 day adventure
I did the 3 day kayak/hike tour and it was so amazing. The meals were tasty, the difficulty was just right each day to allow some relax time, and our guide Callum took really thoughtful care of the whole group. Got lucky in that the tour attracted awesome people so you'll find exactly the type of friends you are looking for!
A hard adventure
Pushed myself to the limits and thoroughly enjoyed it. Emma was an excellent guide who obviously knew her work and has a passion for it. In general, it’s a very well organised tour that anybody would be happy with. Only big bare is that it is considered “moderate”. It’s really “moderate” for an established outdoorsy person not just anybody. Will be going again on another jaunt for sure. Thanks Jan and Emma😀👍
Amazing Experience
This was my first experience with MBA and it will certainly not be my last! This entire weekend was the perfect blend of activities. Norway was so beautiful and the camping/food/activities exceeded my expectations by far. The company MBA coordinates this with, Nordic Adventures, was awesome. You get the feel of the land with expert guides. Every day was the perfect amount of activity. From our airport pick-up, camping in the most serene place, to hiking through all different terrain- this weekend was absolutely flawless.
The best life choice!
This trip was genuinely incredible from start to finish. If you are in any doubt about booking this trip, trust a stranger and just do. Out of a group of 13 you could not find a single regret.
Everything about the experience was incredible, from eating breakfast on the first morning, with your soon to be new friends, admiring the stunning views from the hostel. Moving on to kayaking down the Fjords, surrounded by the most incredible scenery. Norway had never been on my radar as a place to visit, but it is easily the most stunning place I have ever been. Taking on the challenge of the hike really brings the group together. It's tough but achievable and when you're back at sea level soaking your muscles in the cold sea water, you'll be so proud of yourself. Kayaking vakc to base on day 3 is bittersweet, knowing that your adventure is coming to an end.
I genuinely cannot reccomend this trip enough. If you're reading all the reviews, you should stop now and just book the trip. I promise you will not regret it.
A Trip To Remember
This was my first solo trip and it did not disappoint! Had an absolute blast kayaking through the most spectacular scenery my eyes ever did see. Our host Jonny was absolutely fantastic. Felt safe and supported at all times and he prepared the tasty meals for camp. Highly recommend
Incredible trip
An incredible trip I cannot recommend enough! We did the three day and two night wild camping, kayaking and hiking tour and it was amazing.
Our tour guide Ian was the best! Great energy, incredible knowledge and fantastic cooking skills (even making us pancakes on the second morning!) He made a huge effort to cater for everyone and make sure everyone was having a brilliant time. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Thank you Ian!
Our campsite had the most spectacular views of the fjord, the hike was hard but well worth the effort for the breathtaking summit, and the kayaking was epic, stopping to take in the views and eat lunch. All in all, an unbeatable three days.
Without a doubt the best way to experience the fjords to the fullest.
A fantastic experience
What a brilliant time we all had on this trip. Our guide Jan was awesome, his knowledge and love for the area really elevated the experience, and we had a great group to share it all with. The fjords are an incredibly beautiful and peaceful place, a real gem of the world. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone.
Brilliant
Fjord-in’ Brilliant!
Amazing from start to finish. Challenging but worth the pain. Sights you won’t see anywhere else! Great bunch of people. Surprisingly good food!
Great
Definitely recommend the weekend kayaking in Norway. What a beautiful place. Great wild camping spot. Very well organised and plenty of food. Guide, Callum, was five stars.
The most fantastic Norway trip
Wow. . . . . just wow. I can summerise my trip away to Norway by these words. The whole experience was truly fantastic. Full of fun, energetic people, the most gorgeous scenery and amazing guides.

Amazing weekend
The 3 day kayaking, hiking and wildcamping weekend was amazing! Our tour guide Jan was brilliant, super friendly and knowledgeable, he really made us all feel welcome and has 5 star cooking skills!
Would highly recommend this trip to anyone!
Great trip!
Fantastic, action packed trip kayaking and hiking in Norway. Went solo and met other great people. Our guide, Ian, was fantastic- very lively, fun, organised and always looking out for us. The views were absolutely gorgeous and everything was exceptionally well coordinated. Highly recommend
3 Day Norway adventure
Couldn’t fault the planning and delivery of our trip. Emma our guide was fun, knowledgeable and didn’t stop looking after everyone making sure they were all okay. Equipment was just as needed. The kayaking was relaxing and views amazing. The climb was both hard in places and enjoyable - the best 3 day adventure and exceeded expectations.
Great trip really enjoyed it
Great trip really enjoyed it with a bunch of like minded people and johnny was a brilliant guide. Would definitely recommend it.
Loved it!
Had the best weekend exploring the Norwegian Fjords & would thoroughly recommend the trip! It was definitely more challenging than expected but we went a pace which suited the whole group and made it super enjoyable.
Also a HUGE shout out to our tour guide Emma. Made us all feel so welcome, looked after us completely and was an absolute superstar! I have a food allergy which can make travelling a bit of a nightmare. However Emma managed it so well and I was never hungry or going without which I cannot thank you enough for!
Thank you so much!
Bucket list experience!
My highlight of 2024! Amazing trip, do not hesitate to book, we had a fantastic group of people, amazingly organized company/trip & friendly supportive guides! First night in voss, hostel was lovely with beautiful lake views & not to miss wild swims with a sauna to jump into! Company provided good dry bags & wetsuits etc. but the "Waterproof camera case" isn't waterproof, just resistant/ a drop proof hard box, I didn't use this as I was constantly getting phone out of the box to take pictures (u will want to take pictures around every beautiful corner of the fjords!), so I risked keeping my phone in my pocket, I would recommend bringing ur own waterproof lanyard case! Kayaking was absolutely amazing, food was fantastic & campsite was better than expected with breathtaking views, shelter from rain & running water (u are split into lots of groups & it's pot luck where u will stay along fjords, other groups didn't have this). Our guide was excellent, very friendly, kept everyone going, cleaning, cooking, helping everyone with their kayaks & watching the weather to get us up earlier to work around best of weather. Went in August & was excellent, didn't need to wear wetsuits & could kayaks in shorts & T-shirt, might not be as enjoyable if cold & wet. The hike day was more difficult than expected, would recommend making sure fit & shoes worn in, I definitely should have done a little more fitness training beforehand. It is uphill for a long time & slippy on the way down, at times wished I had brought my poles along! Opening your tent in the morning to sunrise over the top of the fjords, still calm water, not a soul in sight, complete silence & a rainbow appearing, is just magical & unforgettable!!

Awesome
Couldn't have been happier with this trip, it was a fantastic way to experience the fjords, the group of people I met were awesome and our guide Katie was also brilliant. Couldn't recommend it more.

An Incredible Trip
We had the most amazing few days in the fjords, it was everything I hoped it would be! Within our group we had a mix of couples and solo travellers and all got the opportunity to get to know each other. The activities are really well planned with two days of kayaking through the fjords with an incredibly beautiful hike in between. Our guide Benji was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, he worked really hard to ensure the trip ran smoothly and that everyone felt comfortable. His cooking efforts were also very appreciated with great meals provided. In early September we had a good mix of weather, the start of the trip was sunny and warm with a view of us swimming in the fjord, later on in the trip the scenery changed and we had some beautiful atmospheric low lying clouds that completely changed the landscape. Thanks so much for a brilliant trip.

An incredible way to experience the Fjords!
I booked this trip because a friend was already going and I’d always wanted to visit the Fjords. Well, what a way to experience the breath-taking Norwegian scenery!! Utterly stunning from start to finish. So well organised and great fun, would highly recommend and will definitely book another adventure.

First kayak and summit
Highly recommend this trip. It was my first time going on a trip like this, it took me out of my comfort zone at times but a great experience. It was made better with the great group we had and guides. Already planning where to go next with MBA! (My biggest relief was the sleeping bags were cleaner than I thought they would be 🤣)

Stunning, soul-uplifting, wonderful adventure. Completely packed and physical days in gorgeous scenery means 3 nights feels like you’ve been in a different world for a week. Your muscles will feel it too ….! Our guides Callum and Benji were incredible at taking care of us, cooking amazing food, keeping us entertained and laughing even when the weather was really quite grim at times and extremely well organised. Take care of the kit list but remember you’ll have to decant into a dry bag and a large plastic bag the things you need for 3 days / 2 nights so pack wisely. If you’re going end of season use the two sleeping bags on offer, take your own blow up roll mat and pillow - it’ll be worth it, and prepare for a physically demanding but more than do-able trip with incredible moments to remember. DO IT ☺️❤️.
Amazing experience
The whole trip was wonderful with supportive fellow travellers, photogenic scenery and activities that were challenging but achievable
Exceeded expectations
Just spent 3 days in Norway, kayaking the most stunning fjords, hiking a mountain and wild camping …. all in a weekend!! The trip from start to finish was excellent. Our guides Callum and Benji were professional, knowledgeable, friendly and fab cooks! The food was excellent and plentiful. This trip was great …. do it!!
20-58 in 3days

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 47kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
- A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
The trip will be split into groups of up to 10 people. Let us know if you are travelling with friends, and we will make sure you are in the same group as friends who have booked.
One of the most beautiful places in the world. A fjord is a deep, narrow and elongated part of the sea, that stretches inland for miles, winding around mountains, valleys, and steep cliffs. The fjords were formed by the giant glacier tongues and shaped over several ice ages.
There are a plenty of kayaks available for you to use with a mix of single and doubles available depending on your preference.
You're free to bring any luggage or suitcase you wish with you to Voss. On day 2, you'll check out of your accommodation with all of your luggage and transfer by bus to the host's kayaking base in Gudvangen. Here, you'll be given a 22-litre dry bag to pack everything into for your kayaking, camping and hiking adventure (excluding your sleeping bag and sleeping mat, unless you bring your own). You will be given a hard waterproof case for your camera/phone too, and you'll want to keep certain things handy such as your water bottle, cap, sunscreen and snacks. You'll need to pack light as your dry bag has to fit into the hatched compartments (bulkheads) of the kayak, along with the group's food and equipment which will be shared among the kayaks. The remainder of your luggage that you don't need on the adventure can be left behind at the kayaking base in Gudvangen, where it will be safely stored until your return.
Don't stress, your host will explain all during the briefing.
Absolutely. The train is 45 minutes faster than the included transfer and is one of the most spectacular journeys you can take by rail. Here’s how:
From the airport, get the Flybussen airport shuttle to Bergen bus station, or the Bybanen (city light rail - cheaper but slower). Buses to/from the airport run every 10-15 minutes, and cost roughly 90NOK (£9) each way. The Bybanen is approx 40NOK (£4).
From the bus station it’s a few minutes walk to the train station. A taxi from the airport to train station can be booked for between 350-550NOK (£35-£55), depending on traffic.
Trains run regularly throughout the day and don’t need to be booked in advance, with a single ticket to Voss costing roughly 200NOK (£20). Trains to Oslo stop at Voss.
You can buy tickets at the ticket office up until 5.30 pm, or from ticket machines. If you want to check the timetable or book online head here.
Voss Hostel is a 12 minute walk from the station. Head out of the main station and turn right on the road. Follow the road until just before the roundabout (about 750m) then take the left turning, following the road for 200m more - straight to the hostel.
For the return, make your life easy by jumping on the already included transfers to Bergen Airport.
We can recommend the following from budget to high price. There are many other hotels, however these are selected for their convenience and/or from experience:
Accommodation in Voss
- Voss Hostel - great prices for individuals, couples or large groups.
- Voss Camping Cabins - ideal for small groups of 3 to 4.
- Store Ringheim Hotel - perfect for cosy traditional rooms and great food.
Accommodation in Bergen
- Montana Hostel - great prices for individuals, couples or large groups.
- Grand Terminus Hotel - Older style but right next to the train station.
- Thon Bristol Hotel - great central city location for sightseeing and nightlife.
- First Marin Hotel - great central city location for sightseeing and nightlife.
Here’s what your local guide has to say on drones:
We do not really encourage bringing drones on this trip for several reasons:
- There are limited times where there would be possibilities for flying the drone.
- We need to keep the campsites free of drone traffic in agreement with the landowners.
- There is often livestock animals in some areas that may get affected and we need to keep a good relationship with the farmers.
- We have seen some people being frustrated by drone traffic and can understand this.
Having said this, we do not prohibit drone use as it is out of our legislation. As long as it does not interfere with the issues mentioned above and you can fit the drone in the kayak, it will be OK to bring it along. Just please do discuss the use with other group members sometime after meeting up with them on the first morning to settle this.
The best way to meet your host is to take the train from Oslo centre to Voss (not Bergen), and then head to Voss Hostel. See the FAQ how to get to Voss hostel from the airport and just follow the directions from Voss station to the hostel. The train journey takes about 6.5 hours and goes through some amazing scenery.
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).
For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.
Don't just take our word for it:
- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends
