Ljubljana is a mid-sized city with a small-town feel. Known for its thriving cultural scene and relaxed atmosphere, the capital city is sure to impress. You’ll have plenty of time both on and off the river to check out famous sights like the Dragon Bridge, Prešeren Square, castles and more. Ljubljana is home to plentiful fine dining at a much more affordable price than what you’d find in western Europe.

The Soča River runs 138km from the Julian Alps to the Adriatic Sea. Known as the “Emerald River”, the vivid green-blue water of the Soča is almost too beautiful to be real. The valley surrounding the river is home to forested hills, dramatic canyons, and spectacular lookouts.

Wedged between two high plateaus, the Vipava Valley is a diverse landscape of rugged hills, high cliffs and endless, rolling agricultural land. The Mediterranean climate is perfect for growing grapes and other fruits, and the region is famous for its wines. It’s the perfect place to get off the beaten path and have a unique Slovenian experience.

Sure can! A lot of people do, and it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our Epic Weekends are very social in nature and we’ve seen lots of new friendships born out of them. Expect a mix of solo travelers and very small groups, all with a shared appreciation of escaping the city for the great outdoors to try something new and meet new people.

Ljubljana is the only European capital to allow urban SUP. The water is calm, clear and clean, and it’s a great place to learn the basics of SUP while getting a different view of the city. Don’t worry, everyone can do it without falling into the water.

The Soča River is larger and wilder, but you’ll stick to calm sections that are perfect for SUP. It’s incredibly scenic and fun, and there are loads of opportunities to play around with balance.

The Tolmin Gorge trail leads through narrow canyons and follows the bright-blue water of the river. The path is well-maintained and easy, so you can focus on the scenic beauty around you.

In the Vipava Valley your hike to Gora starts with a short but steep ascent to the top of the mountain, then levels out for an easy, fun hike along the edge of the plateau. The route follows good trails, and there’s no rush, so you can hike at your own pace and stop when you need to.

You’ll do tandem paragliding with a highly qualified and experienced guide. All you have to do is strap in, relax, and enjoy the sensation of flying like a bird over the valley.

Križna Cave is considered one of the most beautiful and well-preserved caves in Europe. It’s open to the public, but unlike most tourist caves there are no paved paths or strong lights. Instead you’ll board a raft to float across an underground lake, then don boots and head torches to explore a tunnel where the remains of Cave Bears were found in the 19th Century.

A good level of fitness is needed to enjoy up to 3 hours of hiking with 800m of elevation gain. You also need to know how to swim. Other than that, all you need is an adventurous spirit!

Continental breakfast is included at the hostels. Other meals are up to you. Food in Slovenia is very diverse with lots of influence from neighbouring countries. In addition to traditional Slovenian foods like meat stews and dandelion salads you can find plenty of Italian food and other international cuisine.

Given the diversity of food, most diets can be accommodated.

Ajdovščina has a lovely Mediterranean climate. From June to September temperatures average 23 – 28 °C during the day, and cool off to 16 – 19 °C at night. It’s warm and sunny most days.

All equipment for SUP (board, paddle, shorty wetsuit), paragliding, and caving (boots and head torch) are provided.

Try to pack clothes that can pull double duty so you aren’t lugging around a huge suitcase. Your host recommends you bring:

  • Swimsuit
  • Board shorts and swim shirt (optional, but easier than full-body sunblock)
  • Towel
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunblock)
  • Hiking shoes
  • Comfortable, breathable trousers and shirt for hiking and caving
  • Jumper or other warm layer
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Water bottle
