Key Information
Day 1
Welcome to Lofoten

Touch down at Leknes Airport, or roll into the bus station if you're coming from Bodo or Evenes (see the Getting There section). Then head north to Eggum, a small coastal village tucked between rolling green hills and the Arctic Ocean. Your base for the trip is your host’s newly renovated guesthouse, perfectly placed for the days of hiking ahead. Eggum is the ideal spot to ease into island life, with a sweeping beach, dramatic cliffs and wide-open skies on your doorstep. In the evening, you’ll settle down for a welcome dinner and trip briefing with your local host and fellow adventurers. A chance to get to know the group and hear more about the culture, landscape and traditions that shape life in the Lofoten Islands.
Day 2
Ridge hike to launch the adventure

Hiking
Driving
The adventure kicks off with a hike to Matmora, a striking ridgeline that delivers some of the best views in the archipelago. You’ll climb steadily through rugged terrain, gaining height quickly as the landscape opens up around you. The route is lined with jagged peaks, deep blue fjords and scattered islands, with the summit at 788m delivering a full 360° Arctic panorama. After soaking it all in, you’ll descend and make your way to Svolvaer, the capital of the Lofoten Islands. There’s time to wander the harbourfront, drop into a gallery or sip a coffee by the water before heading back to Eggum for dinner.
Day 3
Summit Kroktinden and head to the dreamy Hov beach

Hiking
Driving
Next up, you'll take on Kroktinden, a peak that brings together everything there is to love about hiking in Lofoten. Expect wild terrain, big views and a decent bit of elevation to get stuck into. The route is steep and challenging in places, with rocky ridges and some exposed sections that add a bit of adrenaline to the hike, though your experienced guides will be on hand to lead the way. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with jaw-dropping views stretching out to the open Atlantic. After the descent, you’ll head to Hov, a laid-back beachside spot with Viking roots. Take a gentle stroll along the sand and watch the waves roll in under the Arctic light. Back in Eggum, settle in for dinner, share stories from the trail and maybe hop in the sauna and hot tub to relax your legs ahead of tomorrow’s hike.
Day 4
Lofoten's iconic Ryten hike

Hiking
Driving
Time to tick off one of Norway’s most iconic hikes, the climb to Ryten and its legendary view over Kvalvika Beach. The route begins gently, winding through grassy ridges and rocky paths before revealing a showstopping view: a golden arc of sand framed by turquoise water and sheer cliffs. It’s one of the most photographed spots in Lofoten, and a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike. After soaking it all in, you’ll retrace your steps and stop in Nusfjord on the way back. This tiny fishing village offers a slice of coastal life, with a great little café that doubles as a souvenir shop selling locally made soaps and knitwear. There’s also a bar perched on the fjord’s edge, which makes for a great sundowner after your hiking efforts earlier.
Day 5
The hidden trails to Munken

Hiking
Driving
Today you’ll hike into the quieter heart of Lofoten, following lesser-known trails to the summit of Munken. It’s a 90 minute drive from your base, crossing from Vestvagoy to Flakstadoya and on to Moskensoya, plenty of time to soak up the scenery along the way. The trail begins gently, winding through forested valleys before climbing onto wide-open ridges with panoramic views across Moskensoya. Reaching Munken feels like stepping into a hidden world, with the summit tucked among towering peaks and calm fjords stretching out to the ocean in every direction. After a well-earned rest, you’ll descend through the highlands and return to Eggum for dinner and a relaxing evening. Tomorrow, you're heading deeper into Lofoten’s wilder side.
Day 6
The wildest corner of Lofoten

Hiking
Driving
Tuck into breakfast at your base while your host arranges the gear for the overnight adventure kicking off today. You’re setting off on a two-day wilderness hike from Selfjord to Horseidvika Beach, one of the most remote corners of the archipelago, only reachable by foot or boat. The route winds through deep valleys and past glacial lakes as you make your way to the wild west coast of Moskensoya. Eventually, you’ll reach Horseidvika: a vast stretch of sand backed by huge cliffs. You’ll pitch your tent here and settle in for a night under the Arctic sky. In June and July, the light barely fades, painting the landscape in soft tones late into the night. Later departures in August and September might be treated to the northern lights. Sharing dinner around the campfire in a place like this is once-in-a-lifetime stuff.
Day 7
Hike the famous Reinebringen

Boat Ride
Hiking
Wake to the sound of waves and take your time over breakfast on the beach before breaking camp and continuing your journey. Hop on a ferry at Kirkefjord, as you bid farewell to the wild corner of Lofoten you called home last night. As you head back towards civilisation, there’s one more challenge on the cards, the iconic hike up Reinebringen. You’ll follow the trail towards Reine, a postcard-famous village known for its red cabins and dramatic backdrop. The final ascent is short but steep, with stone steps leading to one of the most photographed viewpoints in Norway. From the top, you’ll see it all: sharp mountains, island-dotted fjords and classic Lofoten colours. Then it’s back to Eggum for a celebratory farewell dinner with your host and fellow adventurers, and share stories from the past week of unrivalled hiking in one of the world's most stunning places.
Day 8
Farewell Lofoten

All good things must end. After breakfast, your host will transfer you to Leknes Airport in time for your flight home. If you're travelling via Evenes or taking the ferry to Bodo on the mainland, they can drop you at the bus station instead, ready for your onward journey, heading home with a pack full of happy memories from your time in Lofoten.

Transfers
Arrival transfers from Leknes Airport to your accommodation are included between 13:00 and 18:45 on Day 1. Check-in is from 13:00, and a welcome dinner is held at around 19:00. Departure transfers are included between 08:00 and 11:30 on Day 8, with check-out at 11:00. Just let your host know your flight arrival and departure times.
If you are looking to save some money, flights into Evenes (EVE) can be lower in price than Leknes. If you fly into Evenes you can take a 4hr 30min bus journey to reach Leknes, seeing more of the Lofoten Islands as you go. Head to the Nordland website for the timetable; there are two buses per day that depart from Evenes Airport – at 11:00 and 17:05. You can catch the bus all the way from Harstad/Narvik Airport in Evenes and get off at the Leknes City Centre stop. Your host will pick you up from there. A one-way ticket will cost you 450NOK (£36/€40/$44).
Travel options
Leknes Airport is accessible via Oslo or Bergen from the UK, Europe and North America. Some routes may include a short touchdown in Bodø between Oslo, Bergen and Leknes. It might look long-winded on paper, but transits are short and the views as you reach the far north of Norway are well worth it. Travel time from London to Leknes can be as little as 6 hours 20 minutes, including both connections. If you choose to overnight in Oslo or Bergen, you can catch a direct morning flight to Leknes and skip the Bodø stop.
Flights to Evenes (EVE) involve just one stop in Oslo from many major hubs in the UK, Europe and North America.

What is the food like?

During the hikes, meals will focus on lightweight dishes prepared by your trip leader with help from the group. The welcome and farewell dinners are a chance to enjoy local specialities like Lofoten lamb and fresh fish. For other dinners, expect simple, hearty options such as soups, pasta with vegetables, sausages, and a freeze-dried meal on the campout night. Breakfasts typically include muesli, porridge, crispbread, cheese, ham, tea and coffee. For packed lunches, you’ll make sandwiches from a selection of ingredients, with snacks like biscuits, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate, fruit and energy bars available.
Vegetarian, pescatarian and gluten-free diets can be accommodated with prior notice. Due to the remoteness of the locations and limited facilities, it may not be possible to cater to all dietary needs, including vegan or lactose-free diets. If you have specific dietary requirements or allergies, please inform your host at the time of booking and ensure they are noted on your passenger information form.
What is the accommodation like?

Explorer Lodge: Your host's guesthouse in Eggum
Tucked on the edge of Vestvagoy Island near Eggum, Explorer Lodge sits in a stunning spot, framed by mountains on one side and a lake and sweeping fjord on the other. Once a traditional local grocery store, the building has been lovingly restored by your host into a spacious, characterful base for your adventure. The ground floor features a cosy living area in authentic Norwegian style, with panoramic windows and a terrace overlooking the lake. There’s also a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and WC. Upstairs are seven inviting bedrooms, each with a mix of double and twin beds. Bathroom and toilet facilities are shared, and every room looks out over either the lake or the surrounding peaks. This is your launchpad for the hikes ahead, perfect for post-adventure swims in the lake, dinners with the group, card games or unwinding in the hot tub after a big day on the trails.

Wild camping on a Lofoten beach
You’ll spend one night camping in one of Lofoten’s most remote and wild corners. After hiking in from Selfjord, you’ll reach Horseidvika Beach, where you’ll pitch your tent for the night. You’ll stay in sturdy twin-share tents, with sleeping mats and bags provided by your host.
This trip has been rated as Moderate
This hiking trip involves six consecutive days of hiking in wild coastal terrain, with multiple ascents and descents of up to 800 metres each day. Trails include rocky, uneven and sometimes steep sections. Consecutive days of hiking in changeable weather mean you’ll need a good base level of fitness and endurance. In the Lofoten Islands, you can expect long days of blazing sun, driving rain, cold winds and everything in between, so a love of the outdoors in all its elements will help you enjoy the trip to the fullest.
While this trip is suitable for fit, active people who haven’t necessarily been on a hiking trip before, we recommend preparing with regular hikes on varied terrain, building up to similar distances and elevation gains. Cardiovascular fitness and leg strength will help you enjoy the experience and keep pushing for those iconic Lofoten views.
What if i need to skip an activity?
If you're not feeling up to a hike on any given day, it's possible to skip one, as the trip is made up of a series of day hikes. The exception is the overnight campout on Days 6–7, this one is harder to sit out, and you'd miss a significant part of the trip’s highlights.
What will I need to carry?
You'll need to carry a daypack for each of the hikes, with space for your lunch, water, rainwear and personal items. Your pack should be big enough to be used as an overnight pack for the campout on Day 6, so we recommend a 35-40 litre pack which will double as a daypack and overnight pack.
Summer in the Lofoten Islands is mild and unpredictable, with average daytime temperatures ranging from 12–18°C (54–65°F). As with many Scandinavian spots, Lofoten is the kind of place where you need to be ready for all weather possibilities, from 25-degree scorchers to chilly overnight campouts, blazing sunshine to windswept downpours. The driest months are April, May and June, followed closely by July and August. Average temperatures in June and September range from lows of 6°C (43°F) to highs of 12°C (54°F), while in July and August you can expect lows of 7°C (45°F) and highs of 16°C (61°F). The average summer sea temperature is 11°C (52°F).
The sun barely dips below the horizon, especially in June and July, so you’ll enjoy long, light-filled days. Come prepared for sudden changes in weather, pack layers, waterproofs and a sense of adventure.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 138kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
Your host is a long-time resident of the Lofoten Islands and knows the archipelago inside out. They’ll use their local knowledge and experience to adapt the itinerary if needed, switching the order of hikes, for example, if conditions are more sheltered on the east side than the west on a given day.
A hiking guide will lead the group, with additional support staff handling transfers and supplying provisions for the overnight camping experience.
The trip has a single base at your host's guesthouse in Eggum, so you can leave your luggage securely in your room throughout the trip.
The tap water in Norway and in this part of the Lofoten Islands is perfectly safe to drink; you can fill up your water bottles and/or bladder from the guesthouse each morning before venturing out for that day's hike. Additional water supplies will be brought along by your host for the overnight campout.
