Key Information
Day 1
Head to the Slovakian mountains

Driving
Meet your fellow adventurers at Krakow Airport and hop in the shared transfer heading south into Slovakia. The drive takes you across the border to Hotel Lomnica, your Standout Stay of the trip – a grand 19th-century building turned mountain retreat, where heritage charm meets five-star comfort. Once you've settled in, you might fancy a wander through the hotel’s art gallery or a wind-down in the spa. In the evening, you’ll meet your local guide for a welcome briefing and tuck into a dinner of modern Slovak dishes.
Day 2
Hike through alpine valleys to emerald-green lakes

Hiking
After breakfast at Hotel Lomnica, you’ll take a short transfer to the trailhead in Tatranska Kotlina. The hike begins through quiet pine forest and open meadows, climbing steadily to the Plesnivec hut – a good spot to grab a coffee or snack. From here, follow a scenic ridge towards White Lake, then continue to Green Lake, framed by jagged granite peaks and shimmering reflections. It’s a favourite with local hikers and one of the Tatras’ real gems. You’ll stop here for a packed lunch by the water before descending through the valley. Back at Hotel Lomnica in the late afternoon, dinner is just across the road at Kuszmannov Bazar – a relaxed spot for local dishes, craft beer and a laid-back atmosphere.
Day 3
Waterfalls, pine forests & Slovakia’s most secluded lake

E-bike
Hiking
Head out to the peaceful Koprova Valley, a quiet corner of the Tatras that few visitors reach. You’ll start with an easy e-bike ride along a smooth forest track – a great way to cover ground without a long walk in. Ride past Slovakia’s highest waterfall before continuing on foot, climbing steadily through pine forest and open slopes to reach Temnosmreccianske Lake, a still, glacial pool surrounded by dramatic peaks. Soak up the calm of this untouched alpine spot over a packed lunch, then retrace your steps down the valley. Back at Hotel Lomnica, there’s time to unwind in the spa before sitting down to a five-course tasting dinner with wine pairing at Restaurant Sissi, featuring seasonal produce and wines from the hotel’s own cellar.
Day 4
Panoramic mountain trails and your next high-altitude retreat

Hiking
Begin the day with a short transfer to the shimmering lake of Strbske Pleso, the starting point for today’s trek. Your luggage will be transported ahead, so you can walk light along one of the High Tatras’ most scenic routes. You’ll follow the Tatranska Magistrala – a legendary trail that links the park’s best viewpoints – skirting the shore of Popradske Pleso, a deep, mirror-still lake framed by towering granite cliffs, before climbing towards the Ostrva Saddle. From here, the landscape opens up to reveal the rugged Mieguszowiecki massif and a wide glacial valley below. Along the way you’ll pass several mountain huts and restaurants, where the group can choose a lunch stop and order from the local menu (allow around €20, payable by card or cash). Continue through alpine terrain to reach Sliezsky Dom, Slovakia’s highest mountain hotel, perched at 1670m beneath the country’s tallest peak. Settle into your new base and soak up the stillness before dinner at the hotel restaurant.
Day 5
Climb one of the High Tatras’ highest peaks

Hiking
Step straight from your hotel door onto the mountain trail towards Vychodna Vysoka (2429m). The route climbs gradually through the Velicka Valley, following rocky alpine paths past the glistening Velicke Pleso lake. As you gain height, peaks unfold in every direction, with wide views stretching across the High Tatras. From the summit, take a moment to soak up the vast Slovak wilderness before descending the same way back to Sliezsky Dom. Spend the afternoon unwinding – relax in the wellness area, sip a drink on the terrace or just enjoy the mountain stillness before your final dinner together.
Day 6
Say goodbye to the High Tatras

Driving
After breakfast, check out of Sliezsky Dom and settle in for your transfer down from the mountains. Enjoy a final look at the Tatras’ peaks before continuing north towards Poland. Arrive at Krakow Airport around midday, where your adventure comes to an end.

Transfers
There is one group transfer on Day 1, from Krakow Airport in Poland to your first night’s accommodation in Slovakia's High Tatras. You’ll meet the rest of your group at the airport and travel together with the driver. Your guide will meet you later that evening at the hotel for the welcome briefing.
At the end of the trip, a single group transfer on Day 6 will take you from the final hotel in Slovakia back to Krakow Airport in Poland in time for midday flights. These transfers are operated by professional drivers only.
If you are arriving or departing at a different time, private transfers are available with your host, please see the Optional Extras section for pricing. It is not possible to arrange pick-ups or drop-offs at city hotels in Krakow. However, public transport between the city and the airport is excellent, with a frequent train service (one to two departures per hour) taking 17 minutes, offering a very efficient and economical connection.
Travel options
Krakow Airport is served by regular international flights from across Europe. For North American travellers, there are one-stop connections to Krakow from major US gateways including Chicago (ORD) and New York/Newark (JFK/EWR).

What is the food like?

Meals are a big part of this adventure, with regional flavours and top-quality ingredients taking centre stage. At the award-winning Restaurant Sissi inside Hotel Lomnica, you'll sit down to a seasonal five-course tasting menu – think wild boar with sauerkraut sauce and dumplings, freshwater fish with chanterelles or buckwheat parcels rolled in cabbage and served with pickled veg. Over the road, Kuszmannov Bazar offers a more laid-back pub-style vibe, but still hits the mark with hearty Slovak favourites like homemade langos with garlic cheese and smoked bacon, or pork cheek goulash with bread dumplings and a cold craft beer. Further up the mountain at Sliezsky Dom, the restaurant serves classic Slovak fare made with local Tatra ingredients. The pork goulash cooked in a cauldron and served with fresh Tatra bread is a favourite, alongside venison loin with rosemary potato croquettes and a port wine sauce, or homemade dumplings with poppy seeds, nuts and berries. Packed lunches on hiking days keep it simple – expect local cheese, fresh bread and fruit to fuel the trail.
If you have any dietary requirements, intolerances or allergies, please check the FAQ below: ‘Can my dietary requirements be catered for on this adventure?’ for specific advice relating to this trip. The availability of foods you may get at home varies in different destinations, so please read the FAQ in full before making your booking to ensure that this trip can accommodate your dietary needs.
What is the accommodation like?

Inside, you’ll find fine dining, an art gallery, and a serene wellness area with pools and saunas – the perfect space to relax after a day in the mountains. Stay in twin or double ensuite rooms with sweeping views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. You can enjoy traditional Slovak cuisine in the hotel restaurant, relax in the wellness area, or step straight from the door onto some of the Tatras’ most iconic hiking trails. Its remote mountain setting combines modern comfort with true alpine seclusion.
Upgrades
For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room can be booked for an extra charge, see Optional Extras for the price. Please request this at the time of booking (this is subject to availability).
The High Tatras enjoy their most stable and accessible hiking conditions between June and September. Early summer (June) is generally cool and fresh, with daytime temperatures around 12–20°C (54–68°F) at hiking elevations and occasional patches of snow lingering on higher paths.
July and August are the warmest months, with typical daytime temperatures of 18–25°C (64–77°F) in the valleys and cooler conditions as you climb. Afternoon showers are common in midsummer, so waterproof layers are essential.
By September the weather becomes clearer and more settled, offering crisp mornings, bright days and fewer crowds. Expect temperatures of around 10–18°C (50–64°F) during the day, with cooler conditions on exposed ridges and summits.
Across the whole season, mountain weather can shift quickly. It’s normal to experience sunshine, cloud and brief rain in a single day, so packing layers and a reliable waterproof jacket is important.
We’re still waiting to collect any reviews from other travellers on this trip. However, all our hosts go through an extensive vetting process to ensure that your adventure is awesome.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 131kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
Your local team constantly monitors weather and trail conditions to keep you safe and comfortable. The itinerary may be adjusted if conditions change, but any alterations will be made with safety and enjoyment in mind. Alternative routes or activities of equal quality will always be provided.
You’ll be accompanied throughout by a qualified, English-speaking local mountain guide. A second guide joins on Day 5 for the ascent of Vychodna Vysoka in larger groups. Luggage transfers and transport are managed by a dedicated logistics driver.
You’ll need to bring all your luggage with you; however, on each hiking day your main bag can be left securely at the hotel. When you move between hotels, your luggage will be transferred for you, so you’ll only need to carry a small daypack with water, layers and essentials while hiking.
Tap water in Slovakia is safe to drink, and you can refill your bottles at the hotels and during transfers. If you’d like to top up from natural sources on the trail, consider bringing water purification tablets or a filtration device.
The e-bike section is an easy, scenic ride on smooth forest tracks designed to save time on a long valley approach. It’s suitable for all levels, and all equipment is provided.
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location and accommodation, and in some places options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully prior to your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.
Once you have booked on your trip, please fill out your passenger information form asap with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.
BACKGROUND
Slovak cuisine is shaped by a landlocked, mountainous landscape and a Slavic–Central European heritage influenced by the Austro-Hungarian era, so meals tend to be fresh, hearty and seasonal, with soups, pork, chicken, potatoes, rice, sauerkraut, dumplings and cheese.
SPECIAL DIETS
Vegetarian Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. In Slovakia, there is plenty of delicious vegetarian-friendly options including vegetable soups (often with potatoes or legumes), fried cheese or mushrooms with potatoes, potato pancakes, dumplings with cabbage, and simple salads, alongside sides like sauerkraut and pickled vegetables.
Vegan Vegan diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance, but you should expect fewer options and variety that you may be used to, especially in rural areas and mountain huts where meals are traditionally built around meat and dairy. Vegan-friendly choices are becoming more commonplace in hotels and restaurants and may include vegetable or bean soups made without stock, stewed cabbage or sauerkraut dishes, roast or boiled potatoes, buckwheat or rice, sautéed mushrooms, and salads.
Kosher Fully certified kosher options are limited in Slovakia and are mainly found in larger cities such as Bratislava. On this trip in more rural areas, kosher-supervised kitchens and ingredients are not possible to guarantee, so vegetarian or vegan meals can be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above, and plan ahead with your guide.
Halal Slovakia is not a predominantly Muslim country so fully certified halal options are limited and are mainly found in larger cities such as Bratislava. As this trip takes place in more rural areas, halal-certified kitchens, meat and supply chains are not possible to guarantee so vegetarian or vegan meals can be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above, and plan ahead with your guide.
INTOLERANCES
Gluten Free (for Coeliac, please see Allergies section below) Gluten-Free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. However, options may be more limited compared to those without dietary requirements. While your local hosts will do their best, it’s worth knowing that gluten-free provision may vary in rural areas where it is harder to source specialist products. Therefore, meals will be based on naturally gluten-free dishes more often than specialist substitutes. That said, many standard meals already include several options without gluten, even without special preparation, including grilled meats, potato dishes, buckwheat/rice, eggs and salads. Please do consider bringing your favourite snacks or food supplements from home to ensure that you always have enough fuel for your adventure.
Lactose Free Lactose-Free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Many traditional dishes are naturally lactose-free or can easily be prepared without dairy, such as vegetable dishes, cabbage/sauerkraut, buckwheat/rice and potato dishes, legumes, and salads.
ALLERGIES
Our host has confirmed that they are able to accommodate mild allergies to the 14 allergens identified by the UK Food Standards Agency, where these are disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy (including Coeliac disease), please get in touch with our CX team prior to booking to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip. This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority.
*Please note that when travelling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods and labelling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. Whilst your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.
Your local host will provide a suitable helmet that conforms to recognised safety standards. If you have sizing concerns, contact your local host in advance so they can advise on fit and availability.
If you wish to bring your own helmet it must be suitable for the activity and conform to recognised safety standards. Please see our Cycling safety guidance for further information.
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
