Key Information
Day 1
Check out the sights and smells of Marrakech

Your host will meet you at the airport and take you to your traditional riad accommodation in Marrakech’s historic medina. You'll then get the chance to spend the day exploring the city’s colourful souks, wander the UNESCO-listed main square and indulge in some amazing Moroccan food.
Day 2
Travel to the Atlas Mountains and hike to your refuge at 3200m

Hiking
Wake up early and drive through the foothills of the Atlas Mountains to Imlil, where you'll meet your support crew and start your trek. Gradually ascend the Toubkal Valley, pass Berber farming villages and stop for lunch on the trail. In the afternoon you’ll arrive at the refuge. Settle in, meet other hikers and refuel with a well-earned dinner cooked by your support crew. Sleep well before your summit attempt tomorrow!
Day 3
Rise early to summit Mt Toubkal

Hiking
Wake up while it’s still dark and begin your final ascent, which will include some steep and loose sections of terrain. Reach the ridge and finish the climb to the top (4167m) in time to watch the sunrise. Rest up and then begin the long descent back to Imlil. Say farewell to the Atlas Mountains and drive back to Marrakech. You’ll arrive at your riad in the early evening in time to find a restaurant for couscous or a tasty tajine before collapsing into bed.
Day 4
Time to go home. Weekend well spent

Relax over your last Moroccan breakfast, explore the town some more if you have time, then transfer to the airport to catch your flight home.

What is the food like?

Moroccan food has a unique blend of sweet and savoury flavours. Local specialities include tagine (stew cooked in an earthenware pot), couscous, and bastillas (flaky pastries stuffed with meat and dusted with cinnamon and sugar). Food is often spiced with cumin, turmeric and ginger. While on the trek, your meals will be cooked by the Berber muleteers. The food is fresh and healthy, and will consist of things like bread, jam, cookies, fruit, juice, and coffee for breakfast; salad, tomatoes, carrots, lentils, beans, rice or pasta, and fish for lunch; soup, classic Moroccan tagine, couscous, olives, nuts, and seasonal fruit for dinner.
Vegetarians, vegans and other dietary requirements and allergies can be catered for – please just request this on your passenger info form.
What is the accommodation like?

Marrakech
In Marrakech, you'll stay in a beautiful riad - traditional Moroccan houses with an interior garden or courtyard. The exact riad you stay in will be confirmed nearer the time based on availability and group size. All are chosen for their excellent reputation, location, beautiful decor and welcoming service.

Mount Toubkal
During the trek, you'll stay in either the Mouflon or Neltner mountain refuge, depending on availability and group size, these are the only accommodation options on the route. Rooms are simple, large mixed dorms with shared bunk-style sleeping platforms. Where possible, your group will have a dorm to yourselves, but you may share with other climbers if space is limited.
The refuges have a sociable, laid-back atmosphere, with communal areas where you can swap stories and wind down in the evening alongside fellow adventurers from around the world.
Upgrades
For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room can be booked for an extra charge for the nights in Marrakech, see Optional Extras for the price. Please request this at the time of booking (this is subject to availability and they are very limited due to the layout of traditional riads).
This trip has been rated as Challenging
This trek requires a good level of fitness. You must be capable of hiking all day up paths of moderate difficulty with steep, loose sections. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the loose footing and high altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts and can be mentally challenging. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile!
What will I need to carry?
Mules will carry your main overnight luggage during the trek and you will need to carry your daypack with your daytime essentials (extra layer, snacks, water etc.). For the welfare of the mules, please ensure your main overnight luggage is in a soft-sided bag and weighs no more than 15kg.
Spring and autumn temperatures in Marrakech average 10 - 25 °C, and it rains a small amount roughly 7 days each month. From June to September it gets quite hot in the city, averaging 15 - 35 °C, and it only rains a few days each month. In the height of summer, daytime temperatures in Marrakech have been known to approach 45°C on occasions so please ensure that you come prepared with sun protection, light and airy clothing and electrolytes/rehydration solutions if travelling at this time of year.
In the Atlas Mountains from March to October daytime temperatures average 25 - 30°C but it cools off considerably at night, and the higher you go the colder it gets (you may even need gloves on a summit day in August!) Nighttime temperatures can drop below freezing at and above the mountain refuge. Afternoon storms are always possible, but they are usually quick and generally don’t prevent anyone from enjoying the trek.

Amazing weekend
Had an amazing time climbing Toubkal, challenging but very rewarding. Both guides were had were amazing (Abdou and Mustafa) and my group was great. Highly recommend!

Unbelievable experience!
The best experience with the best guides. Everyone was welcoming but the 2 that stood out was Abdou & Mustafá. The best company throughout the whole trip and didn’t stop the laughing the whole time. Would highly recommend and will definitely use again.
Great experience
I had a great experience, the people from the riads we stayed at to the porters to the guides we’re all really welcoming.
The people who stood out the most were Abdou and Mustafa our guides, they were great company and had us all in high spirits always keeping us smiling.

The perfect introduction to MuchBetterAdventures.
There are so many trips to choose from on this website, and I am ecstatic that this was the first one I decided to go for.
Everything was on point: the accommodation, the transfers, the itinerary, the guides, the food. Any expectations I had were surpassed and, because of this, I am already looking for the next adventure to take with this company.
Big shout out to Aztat Tours (the partnered company that took care of us in Morocco), and another huge shout out to Abdul and Moustafa our amazing guides. They made the experience even better with their kindness and attention.

Literally life changing
Insane to think, but I’ve never really been hiking before, let alone would think of myself as someone capable of summiting the highest mountain in North Africa. But with the exceptional experience and guidance of MBA & team, not only myself but almost everyone else in our group managed. Mustafa and Abdul were so friendly, professional, and personal to each and every one of us. We felt taken care of at every stage, well fed, informed and positively cheered on. THANK YOU to the team that took care of every detail on our behalf. Everything was so well organised!!!! Would highly recommend.

A full on two day mountain experience
The Mount Toubkal trek was my sixth trip with MBA. As always, I found the organisation and administration exceptional. The partner company, Aztat Treks, who ran all aspects of the trip in Morocco, were fantastic. The Riad (Viewpoint) that we stayed at before and after the trek, was really lovely we were so well hosted. Our two guides whilst on the Toubkal Trek (Sayyid and Abdul) were absolutely fantastic in all respects. They were so supportive of all our group members, always checking in and keeping everyone safe and well motivated. I was so impressed they got us to the summit 2 minutes before sunrise! This is a tough two day hike, with the summit day being particularly long (we got up at 0230 and arrived back in Marrakech at 19. 30, having trekked for around 12 hours that day). The terrain on Toubkal is tough - loose stones, scree and boulders, but it's a very rewarding two day hike.
Summit of Mount Toubkal
Our weekend trek up Mount Toubkal was an incredible experience overall, challenging, rewarding, and unforgettable. The scenery was breath taking, and reaching the summit was a real highlight that made all the effort worthwhile. The local guides were knowledgeable and supportive throughout the climb, and the atmosphere among the group was positive and encouraging.
That said, a few logistical details could have been better managed. We experienced quite a bit of waiting around - particularly for the coaches and when leaving the refuge - which made parts of the trip feel less smooth than they could have been. Unfortunately, we also missed seeing the sunrise from the summit due to a later-than-planned departure from the refuge and several extended stops on the way up. It was a bit disappointing, as the sunrise is one of the most memorable moments of the trek.
There were also some frustrations with the overnight stay. One of the refuge staff woke everyone in our room in the middle of the night by switching on the lights to add another person to our space - so if you’re planning to do this trip, don’t expect much sleep! It’s all part of the adventure, but a little more consideration around guest comfort would go a long way!
It also would have been great to have a proper group introduction or briefing with our guide before setting off, to get everyone acquainted and aligned on expectations. Similarly, an end-of-trip get-together would have been a nice way to close out the experience and celebrate what we achieved as a team.
Despite these small gaps, the trek itself was fantastic and an achievement we’ll all remember for a long time. With a few tweaks to timing, organisation, and group connection, this trip could easily go from great to exceptional.

Really fun trip
This trip was a lot of fun, and everything went very smoothly. The staff at the riad and the guides were really great. The guides set a very maintainable pace for the ascent, and made sure to check up on everyone and make sure we were all doing ok. They also made sure that at least one guide was with or behind the person at the back of the group so that no one would be left behind even when we got a bit spread out. The food was really good (and there was a lot of it) and the refuge was also a lot nicer than expected. Would recommend!
You could not for better guides
I did this trip back in March with friends and it will stay with me as the standout part of my entire holiday in Morocco.
Please do not think that this was easy and if you have any problems with your knees, I would definitely work on their strength before you go, especially for the downhill.
However, it was the outstanding patience, good humour and professionalism of Abdul and his colleague (I’m so sorry that I have forgotten his name!) that made this trip what it was. Their commitment to keeping us safe and their knowledge was second to none and when an injury meant I needed to be supported/carried down a chunk of the mountain by Abdul, he surprisingly made me laugh and took my mind off of my embarrassment which turned what could have been a defining low point for me into a manageable event!
So if you are thinking about this, ensure you prepare your joints before you go, but if the only thing holding you back is your mind, stop questioning yourself and go for it - you won’t regret it!

2300m ascend in 2 days!!
Why do people climb mountains?
I do it at points in my life when I feel everything is unraveling and I have little control. It is both a surrender to nature and a call to take back your own power. The mountains do not care about your baggage, age, creed, drama. All that matters is your breath, your legs and your will to keep pushing.
Do this with Aztat Tours. They will take care of your.
Bring your own treats. Carry more water than you think you need. Layer up. . . you will add and remove as your walk through microclimes of the High Atlas.

Challenging Adventure in Toubkal
Very challenging 2 days of hiking but worth it for sunrise at the summit ! 1st day being a reasonable long hike in the heat with plenty of water and snacks Summit day being the toughest day with 3hrs of sleep and 14hrs of hiking but it was worth the experience ! It was such a great challenge to get my 1st 4000m summit. Onwards and upwards to higher mountains !
Wonderful trip expertly organised. Everything was so easy, smooth and stressful free. 10/10 would recommend!!
Awesome weekend. Seamless travel and
Awesome weekend. Seamless travel and the group were amazing. Would recommend to anyone looking into their first 4000m summit!

A tough but rewarding adventure
This was my 5th trip with MBA and another cracking trip. I was again very lucky with the group I was with which always makes for a much more enjoyable trip. It was also probably my toughest trip yet. Even though it’s only a couple of days it is a real test but well worth it. If you’re expecting the refuge to be luxurious…. forget it…but it certainly adds to the memories!! The two guides we had were really good and accommodated everyone in the group! As always the organisation and communication was spot on!
Heart full; legs depleted!
I joined this trip via an invitation from my cousin; but as soon as I read the travel itinerary I was in!
First day in Marrakesh was superb, being close enough in the Riad to walk to the main square and soak in the atmosphere was amazing. A dip in the Riads tiny pool was exactly what I needed in the heat.
The Riad was beautiful and full of personality and warmth, the hosts were some of the most gentle and friendly people I'd ever met.
Pick up and transfer to Immil were flawless and smooth. The first days trek was a nice pace, with regular stops and some welcome showers to cool us down.
I did not sleep well on Saturday night, but this is due to my difficulties, nothing to do with the dorms, though the beds are a little hard! Bag a bottom bunk if you need the loo in the night, the bunk step ladders are not for the faint hearted!
Breakfast was at 3:00am; I found it difficult to eat this early, but forced some bread and peanut butter down. The first part of the trek to the summit on Sunday was hard; our group split into a faster paced group racing for sunrise, and a more leisurely group taking their time. I wish I'd stayed behind in the more leisurely group; the comradery there was wonderful. We made the summit with 15 mins to spare and were greeted by 40-50 others. It was wonderful and didn't detract from the accomplishment. Lots of photographs taken and then the trek back to the refuge. It is VERY slippery on the way down, our group was completely split up and it did feel quite ominous on the way down after a few slips, but there were plenty of people around to sound the alarm if you had hurt yourself.
We had around 90mins at the refuge before lunch, then enjoyed a hearty meal before the return leg back down to Immil. Unfortunately this is where the experience turn slightly sour for me as our group was fractured and ended with me alone for around 90 minutes on the path down. It was very demoralising as I had come to walk with a group and found myself alone, in pain and feeling rubbish. At the half way point I met back up with the others, but only had a 5 minute rest (loo stop) and then carried on back down towards Immil. Take plenty of snacks and energy treats for the way down, it was way harder than I gave it credit for and probably the hardest part for me of the entire thing. Mules are available for the down portion at 200mdhs per person.
We arrived back at the Riad and some of the group went out for food and a drink, I crashed into bed and did not wake until the next day. My cousin and I had arranged a hot air balloon ride, which was phenomenal and I would 100% recommend if your funds allow (around £80). Overall, it felt like we'd fitted a weeks worth of experiences into 4 days. I would 100% recommend, but maybe discuss pace / walking plan with the group before you set out and before tiredness sets in. I've made a couple of amazing friends who I cannot wait to head up to Scotland to see!
A brilliantly rewarding challenge!
A fantastic trip from start to finish. Lead by Mustafa, our guides were so supportive throughout the tough hike, especially during the early morning climb to the summit. The Riad was perfectly located for exploring Marrakech and the team there couldn’t have been more helpful. A great trip if you want to challenge yourself in a fantastic location!
What a trip!
I’d definitely recommend this trip - it’s so well planned and everyone involved was lovely, helpful and worked incredibly hard to make sure we all had a successful adventure. Big up Mohammed and Samir, along with the fab staff at Riad View Point, food was amazing, views were amazing… I’d do it again tomorrow, now my legs have recovered 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Amazing weekend climbing
We had a great time with the most amazing group. Everyone was friendly and the guides were kind and helpful.
A few tips- Bring hand sanitizer, the toilets are a lot of holes in the ground, and tissues for toilet roll.
- flip flops for the base camp/non walking boots.
- make sure you have maps /connection when you arrive, there wasn’t anyone in our riad who could tell us any information, we missed the group meal because our flight was late and had to find somewhere to eat quite late at night. Maps are needed to get around!
- bring your own snacks and sweets, they aren’t provided.

Mount Toukbal
Really enjoyable trip, my first time hiking at altitude. Just be prepared for this being challenging, a good level of fitness is definitely required. The day you summit is a long day, we set off to catch sunrise at 4am and we were hiking for around 14 hours. Don’t let this put you off - I had the most amazing weekend and you definitely feel a sense of achievement!
Great hike
A great hike Great team Fab guides Unreal food A proper tough up and downhill so not for the faint hikers

Exceptional
A well organised trip from start to finish. The food was plentiful and delicious. The mountain hut basic, hard to sleep in with 16 others but makes it part of the experience and the Riad View Point was lovely! Essia went above and beyond to make our stay nice. The hike itself is just the right amount of challenging (a good level of fitness needed) but the guides looked after us well, set a good pace and the whole team made it! A fantastic trip from start to finish with a wonderful group of people.
Amazing experience
Absolutely amazing experience led by our incredible guide Mohamed!
The first day was lovely with a more gradual incline paired with scenic views of mountain villages to start and then the mountains and wildlife as we got further up. The second day summiting was tough with the steeper incline and altitude but was an exhilarating experience with a very worth while view of the sun rise at the top.
Would definitely recommend as was a once in a life time experience.
Excellent weekend trekking
I had an excellent weekend on my first altitude trek. Very well organised, great accommodation and breakfasts at the riad, the refuge accommodation was basic but that was expected so no surprise there. The guides set a good pace, with a 3rd guide added to the group for the summit which meant that if anyone needed to go slower than the the group pace, they could. I personally found the descent more of a challenge as the path is mostly loose shale and small rocks that slide underfoot! The food was plentiful and varied, and plenty of water was also provided throughout the days. This was my first trip booked through MBA and I would definitely use them again :)

Mount Toubkal weekend
I found this to be a very a challenging hike but the guides kept us going at a pace that pushed us. The food and water provided was exactly what was needed and the guides altered the summit times to get the best weather on the day - I’d recommend this hike to anyone who’s looking for a challenge and hasn’t hiked at altitude before
Really well organised. Riad view
Really well organised. Riad view point really good. Staff so helpful and accommodating. Trek itself was amazing. Would recommend

Climbing Mount Toubkal
Had an excellent time! The group were all pleasant, the views were incredible and our guide team and accommodation were much better than expected.

Perfect sunrise
Challenging 2 day hike with some hard work, but the reward was stunning. The 3 night trip was very well organised, the Riad hosts great, and the mountain guides on the hike were excellent. Highly recommend.
A much better adventure than expected
I have completed a few 'adventure tours' before that were a bit more expensive, per head than Much better adventures. I was aware I was booking a 'cheaper' operator expecting a no frills experience. I couldn't have been more wrong. The accommodation was great, and the food fantastic. The best part of the trip were the guides. They were well tuned-in and managed the group from start to finish. Very professional. I would use Much better adventures again without hesitation.

Highly recommend - seamless!
The whole weekend was not only the most fun and a brilliant experience, but so so easy and totally seamless! Scooped up at the airport and taken to a beautiful Riad, well looked after, the guides up the mountain were absolutely amazing, the food was unbelievable! Every bit of the way we felt safe and cared for, while also being pushed to do something challenging! Some time to explore Marrakesh was also great and we met fabulous people who we have stayed in touch with!
Highly highly recommend!

Unbelievable
Such a fantastic experience from start to finish! Before I even booked, MBA were super speedy and helpful to respond to any questions I had. Once booked, the organisation was seamless and I felt so taken care of by every member of staff in Morocco. The tour guides were fantastic- and gave the perfect balance of safety and motivation with pushing us all the perfect amount. All the food was plentiful and delicious too! We never went hungry! The group of people I met were fantastic and it really was an unforgettable experience. It was certainly tough but so so worth it! I will definitely be booking with MBA again! Thank you!!

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 195kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
Absolutely! We recognise that you may want to leave some of the kit you bring to Morocco somewhere safe before you start your ascent of Toubkal. When you reach Imlil, you will be able to leave any non-essential items you don’t want to take up on the hike with you at your local guide's base there.
Your host works with muleteers who collaborate with the local charity Spana (The Society for the Protection of Animals and Nature) on the AMI programme (Aid to the Mules of Imlil). The charity provides training, guidance and incentives to mule owners to encourage and support good care for their animals in all aspects of their working lives. The programme also runs a monthly clinic, offering free veterinary care for the animals and distributing humane tack.
Ramadan is expected to take place from 17 February to 19 March 2026, followed by the national holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which lasts for two to three days. Ramadan is an Islamic festival during which the religious do not eat or drink during daylight hours. This can be a fascinating time to travel, particularly to witness the evening celebrations when the fast is broken. However, you can expect some business hours to be shortened, alcohol not to be served during daylight hours, and some restaurants to be closed during this period.
Daytime activities for local people are often limited, while the nights are very lively in cities, with a wide variety of foods being sold and enjoyed. Ramadan will not affect the inclusions on your trip, although you should be aware that dinners will be served after locals break their fast in the evenings.
This trip visits locations at or above 2500m, where some people may experience symptoms of Altitude Sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
Previous experience at altitude doesn’t guarantee the same response again – your body can react differently on each trip. However, having been at altitude before is still valuable: it gives you a better understanding of how your body might respond, what symptoms to look out for, and how to manage your pace and energy levels.
Your guide is trained to manage the risk of altitude sickness by controlling the rate of ascent, monitoring group wellbeing, and responding appropriately if anyone feels unwell.
Before booking, we recommend considering your personal health, particularly if you have any pre-existing conditions, and consulting a medical professional if you’re unsure. Arriving early to allow your body to acclimatise can also make a big difference.
Your travel insurance must cover the maximum altitude reached on this trip and include emergency evacuation.
This trip includes locations where temperatures can range from extremely hot to extremely cold during different parts of the itinerary. In some areas, you may face high daytime temperatures, strong sun, and humidity with limited shade. Elsewhere, especially at higher elevations, temperatures may drop below freezing, particularly at night.
These extremes can affect your physical performance and increase the risk of heat-related issues such as dehydration or heat stroke, or cold-related risks like frostbite and hypothermia. Your guide will manage the pace, monitor group wellbeing, and adjust the plan when needed to keep everyone safe.
We recommend considering how you personally respond to heat and cold, and speaking with a healthcare professional if you have any conditions that could be affected. Packing the right gear for both climates is essential, and arriving early may help your body acclimatise more comfortably, especially if you're coming from a more moderate climate.
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).
For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way. Check out our Community Values – a shared code to make sure that everyone's experience is safe, inclusive and brilliantly unforgettable.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.
Don't just take our word for it:
- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends
