Rafting and canyoning was amazing. Scenery in Bosnia was incredible and river camp was so much fun.
— Hannah Inwood, August 2022
Amazing couple of days in BH, and was everything I wanted from the trip! Highlight for me was rafting and swimming in the Neretva. Our local guide was fantastic, and the guides at the centre were incredible!!! During rafting and canyoning guides brought snacks - which were most welcome! Do make sure you bring BAM with you, for tipping the centre guides, shops etc. makes everything easier.

Fantastic trip with plenty of activity . Ilia, our guide, was great and the staff at the outdoor activity centre were all really friendly and helpful. We all bonded really well and everyone seemed to enjoy the experience - the canyoning upstream on the Neretva was particularly memorable.

Absolutely awesome trip. Seamlessly organised by our guide Illia. We didn’t waste a minute and we’re exhausted by the end. The activities were well planned and explained and the food was great. The accommodation was brand new and spotlessly clean. The trip surpassed all my expectations 👍🏼

— Clare, July 2022
Fantastic trip - well organised and all activities were really good - great group of people too. Loved the canyoning which felt off the beaten track, the rafting and the hike - beautiful place and a great experience. I would definitely recommend.

Great experience. Would definitely recommend.
— Elisabeth, July 2022
Fun activities in a beautiful setting. The rafting was very relaxing, but with some great opportunities to jump in and swim. Canyoning included a steep hike - walking boots definitely needed. It was great to share these experiences with a lovely group of people.

Great little trip, good crew and a perfect way to get to see Bosnia in a short amount of time
— Ryan, July 2022
Really good trip with a great host. The rafting was quite relaxed (because of the time of year (August)) but still really enjoyable. Plenty of stops along the way for some body rafting and also bridge/cliff jumping for those who wanted to. Apparently April/May time is the best time for more intense rafting. We didn't have time to do a hike before the rafting (again, due to the time of year meaning the water speed was lower and so we wouldn't have time to fit both a hike and rafting in). However, after the rafting our host took us to a lake to spend a few hours before dinner - there was time for a little hike around the lake and/or a swim. The canyoning day was a lot of fun! Starts with a really great hike to the start point. Including the hike time, I think we were on the go from 9am - 3pm, so take snacks!

We've crunched the numbers to work out the total carbon footprint of this trip, and plant enough trees to suck 2x as much back out the atmosphere.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 167kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal for 2022 to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
- A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. For every person booked with us since 2016 we’re planting enough trees to suck at least 2x more carbon out the atmosphere than is emitted by their trips. All native trees, as part of amazing projects that are re-foresting degraded land, tackling the biodiversity crisis and supporting local communities at the same time. We go further than that too, also funding re-wilding projects worldwide to help protect important keystone species from extinction. See the reforestation and re-wilding schemes we support. See our carbon action plan.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
A reasonable level of fitness is required and the ability to handle approximately 4 – 5 hours of activity each day. The last part of the hike can be challenging but your guide will be with you every step of the way to help you negotiate it securely and safely. You do not need any rafting or canyoning experience as your guide will also give you full instructions and a safety briefing at the start. Be advised that the water can get chilly in the canyon, but you will be provided with wetsuits to keep you warm.
Sure can! Over 50% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Although shielded from the coast by high mountains, the Neretva Canyon funnels a Mediterranean climate into the Zupa Valley all year round. In the summer, daytime temperatures range from 24 – 30 °C, but it can get cooler at night, so bring layers of clothing to keep you warm if needed, especially during autumn when the temperatures are lower. During the summer, it can sometimes get over 30 degrees during the day, so it's wise to bring a hat and sunscreen.
Any excess luggage can be safely left in your daily transfer vehicle or at your accommodation during this trip.
On this trip, you will be rafting through level 2 and 3 rapids on the Neretva River. There will be 4 sections of whitewater rafting.
