Sure can! A lot of people do, and it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our Epic Weekends are very social in nature and we’ve seen lots of new friendships born out of them. Expect a mix of solo travelers and very small groups, all with a shared appreciation of escaping the city for the great outdoors to try something new and meet new people.

You need to be able to walk unaided over mixed terrain for a couple of hours at an easy pace. You may need to negotiate rocky shorelines which requires a reasonable sense of balance and agility. This trip is suitable for beginner or experienced photographers.

Your instructors are award winning photographers who have led photography trips on the Isle of Skye for 6 years. They have plenty of wisdom to impart whether you’re a new or advanced photographer.

Skye has a very diverse landscape, so you’ll be able to practice your skills on mountains, beaches, waterfalls, coastlines, lochs, rock formations and more. You’ll also see wildlife like otters and sea eagles.

Specific skills you can work on include long exposure, wildlife, sunrise and sunset, and seascapes.

Visiting Skye in the shoulder season allows you to capture sunrise and sunset, and avoids the clouds of midges that are present during the summer.

Meals are standard and tasty. You’ll be served a continental breakfast at the hostel, while lunches and dinners will be taken at local cafes and restaurants.

Absolutely, just let us know at booking.

Spring and fall temperatures in the north of Skye are generally moderate, ranging from 7 – 12 °C in May and October. It’s a little warmer in July and September, averaging 9 – 15 °C.

Clear days are rare, but cloudy skies make for more interesting photographs anyways!

Pack plenty of layers to stay warm and dry from dawn to dusk. Don’t forget to bring:

  • Camera gear and tripod
  • Backpack for carrying personal gear on hikes
  • Head torch
  • Waterproof hiking shoes or boots
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
