Day 1
From Athens to Arcadia
Boutique HotelTwin shareDinner includedShow Day 1 detailHide detail
Your adventure begins with a group transfer from Athens Airport, swapping city bustle for the mountainous heart of the Peloponnese. A two-hour drive winding into the pine-covered hills of Arcadia eventually reaches Dimitsana, a postcard-perfect village perched above the Lousios Gorge. Your base for the next two nights is your Standout Stay of the trip, the Mikri Arktos Boutique Hotel and Lousiou Nymfes Escape Suites, a boutique hideaway tucked into the stone-built charm of Dimitsana old town. With sweeping views over the valley, warm hospitality, and traditional decor, it’s the ideal place to grab some downtime after your journey here. As the sun dips behind the mountains you’ll gather for a welcome dinner at a local taverna, tucking into some classic Greek dishes and local wines – a perfect way to toast the days of adventure ahead.
Day 2
Hike the Menalon Trail
Hiking4-5hrs · 15km · 450m up · 450m downBoutique HotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 2 detailHide detail
Tuck in to a traditional Greek breakfast this morning to fuel you up for a full day hiking along the Menalon Trail, one of Greece’s most celebrated long-distance hiking trails. You'll begin in Vytina, a mountain village known for its alpine vibe and fresh air. The first stretch is a 6km walk to Nymfasia, crossing over the elegant stone Tzavarenas Bridge and following the serene Mylaon River. After a short rest here, you'll continue through dense fir forests and across the dramatic Mavra Litharia gorge to reach Magouliana – the highest village in the Peloponnese. With crisp air and panoramic views in every direction, it's well worth your efforts to reach this point of the hike. You'll wrap up the day back in Vytina with a well-earned late lunch at a traditional taverna, before returning to Dimitsana for a free evening to wander its cobbled lanes, sip a mountain tea in a café, or just relax at your hotel.
Day 3
E-biking, wine tasting and a feast on the coast

Trade hiking boots for e-bikes as you set off on two wheels along a different stretch of the Menalon Trail. You'll roll past sleepy villages, shady forests and sun-dappled hills – the perfect mix of effort and ease with the help of your electric steed. In the afternoon, dive into the world of Nemean wine, visiting a local winery to taste Greece’s most famous red, Agiorgitiko. You’ll learn how these bold wines have their roots in ancient myth and sip your way through a variety of local vintages. The day finishes in the elegant seaside town of Nafplio, your home for the next three nights. Dinner tonight is in one of Nafplio’s buzzing tavernas – seafood, sunsets, and chilled local wine await.
Day 4
Sunken cities and ancient Greek ruins

After breakfast, it’s time to swap the Peloponnese interior for the Aegean Sea as you head to the calm waters near Epidaurus. Here, you’ll hop in a sea kayak to paddle your way along the coast and across glassy bays to reach the submerged ruins of a sunken city. Paddling over ancient stone walls and columns lying beneath the surface of the clear Mediterranean waters is a surreal experience, and you'll get even closer to the ancient city as you hop out of the kayaks to snorkel around this hidden wonder. In the afternoon, Ancient Greek culture takes centre stage with a visit to the Epidaurus Theatre – one of the best-preserved classical theatres in the world. You'll hear firsthand why its acoustics are considered legendary, and walk in the footsteps of ancient Greek audiences. Back in Nafplio, your evening is free – perhaps go for a rooftop drink overlooking Palamidi Fortress, or take a stroll along the palm-lined promenade.
Day 5
Olive oil tasting, sea swims and a Greek cooking class
Boutique HotelTwin shareBreakfast and dinner includedShow Day 5 detailHide detail
Kick off the day with a visit to a boutique olive oil producer, where you’ll taste your way through Greece’s liquid gold and learn about the ancient methods still used today. From grassy and peppery to smooth and buttery, each oil tells a story of sun, soil and tradition. Then it’s time for some well-earned downtime as your host takes you to one of Nafplio’s stunning beaches. Swim in crystal waters, relax under the Mediterranean sun, or enjoy a coffee at a beachside café. In the afternoon, you'll gather for a hands-on Greek cooking class with a local chef. Roll up your sleeves to prepare classic dishes – mezze, mains, and sweet treats – using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Sit down together to enjoy the feast you’ve prepared, ending the day with full bellies and big smiles.

After one last breakfast in beautiful Nafplio, it’s time to return to Athens. You’ll depart after breakfast for a group transfer (which takes around two hours), so be sure to book any return flights for after 16:00. As you head home, take with you the scents of mountain herbs, the taste of sun-ripened tomatoes, and the memories of trails, coastlines and culinary delights shared in good company.

FAQs
What if things don't go to plan?
Your host is a Greece adventure travel specialist with years of experience guiding all over the country. If conditions at any stage of the trip affect the ability to undertake an activity, your host will pivot to or rearrange activities in response to the factors on the ground.
Can my dietary requirements be catered for on this adventure?
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location and accommodation, and in some places options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully prior to your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.
Once you have booked on your trip, please fill out your passenger information form asap with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.
BACKGROUND
Greek food has been shaped by centuries of home cooking, Orthodox fasting traditions and a climate that favours olives, vegetables and legumes. Long stretches without meat or dairy have led to a brilliant variety of plant-based dishes, many of which are still everyday staples. Meals tend to be simple, seasonal and centred around olive oil, with pulses, grains and vegetables doing the heavy lifting. Meals are often eaten in the traditional Greek way, ordering a selection of dishes which are shared between the group. It’s a great destination for vegetarians, vegans and the lactose-free. If you're gluten-free or have more specific allergies, you'll still find options but just be ready to explain your needs clearly, especially in smaller or more remote tavernas (your guide will help you with this).
SPECIAL DIETS
Vegetarian -Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Greek cuisine offers a wide range of excellent vegetarian options such as Greek salad, fava (yellow split pea purée), dolmades (vine leaves stuffed with rice and herbs), spanakopita (spinach pie), gemista (stuffed peppers and tomatoes), gigantes (baked giant beans), grilled vegetables, and a variety of mezze.
Vegan -Vegan diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Vegan-friendly dishes may include lentil soup (fakes), gigantes beans, briam (roasted mixed vegetables), okra in tomato sauce, stuffed vine leaves, horta (boiled wild greens), salads, and many vegetable-based mezze prepared with olive oil and herbs.
Kosher -Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are rare and usually cannot be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
Halal -Certified Halal supply varies by location and is often not possible. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
INTOLERANCES
Gluten Free (for Coeliac, please see Allergies section below) -Gluten-Free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. However, options will be more limited than for those without dietary requirements. While many Greek dishes are naturally gluten-free (such as grilled meats, fish, salads, vegetables and legumes), bread and pastry are common at meals, and awareness of cross-contamination can vary. While your local hosts will do their best, it’s worth knowing that gluten-free specialist supplies are generally only available in Athens. In more remote areas, it's not possible to source specialist products, so meals will be based on naturally gluten-free dishes rather than substitutes. We recommend bringing some of your own snacks or supplements, especially when travelling in more rural regions.
Lactose Free -Lactose-Free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. While dairy (particularly feta and yogurt) features prominently in Greek cuisine, many traditional dishes are naturally lactose-free or can be prepared without dairy, including grilled meats or fish, vegetable stews, legumes, salads, rice dishes and mezze based on olive oil, lemon and herbs rather than cheese or yogurt. Nonetheless, we recommend bringing some of your own snacks or supplements, especially when travelling in more rural regions.
ALLERGIES
Your host has confirmed that they are able to accommodate mild allergies to the 14 allergens identified by the UK Food Standards Agency, where these are disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy, please get in touch with our CX team prior to booking to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip. This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority. Please note that when travelling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods and labelling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. Whilst your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.
What do I do about drinking water?
The drinking water in Greece is perfectly safe, so you'll be able to fill up at your guesthouse and at refill points during the hikes. Make sure to bring a reusable water bottle or bladder with you.
How many guides and support crew will there be on my trip?
You'll have one main tour guide who will guide the hikes throughout the itinerary. You'll have additional guides join the group for the cycling and kayaking activities. If the group size is nine or above, an additional guide will join the group throughout the duration of the trip.
Can I leave my excess luggage somewhere?
You can leave your main luggage in your hotel room at each base.
What type of kayaks are used?
On the Peloponnese coastline you'll be paddling in two-person sit-in kayaks.
What is the size/weight limit of the kayak?
The kayaks used on this trip have a maximum combined weight capacity of 250kg/39st. If you weigh more than 120kg or are over 2m tall, please check with us before booking this trip, as we'll need to ensure that the kayaks and equipment provided is suitable for your comfort and safety.
What type of bikes are provided?
You'll be riding a an electric hardtail bike, with suspension at the front. You'll be fitted with the correct size bike, and given instruction on using an e-bike if this is your first time.
What do I need to know about e-bikes?
Your e-bike will assist with about 25% of the effort on an average ride, meaning you'll provide about 75% of the effort. There will be moments when you'll need to switch to Boost mode for short bursts of power, especially on challenging terrain or steep sections. However, most of your ride will be in Eco and Trail modes, with Eco mode often being your go-to on climbs to conserve battery life throughout the day. This balance ensures a smooth, enjoyable ride while still giving you the thrill of exploration on two wheels.
In terms of speed, the power assistance on e-bikes is typically capped at around 25kph (15mph). If you want to go faster, you'll need to pedal harder! You can adjust the power levels to match your pace and terrain. Your cycling guide will brief you on how to use the different modes to optimise your ride and make the battery last:
Eco Mode: Low power for energy efficiency, giving you longer battery life on flat terrain.
Auto Mode: Automatically adjusts the power based on terrain and your pedalling effort for a more balanced ride.
Sport Mode: Provides mid-range power, ideal for moderate hills and faster cruising.
Turbo Mode: Delivers maximum power, perfect for steep hills or when you want to ride fast.
When it comes to battery power, the e-bike batteries are typically charged overnight, usually at your accommodation. There will be a couple of spare batteries in the support vehicle just in case. However, if you manage your battery usage throughout the day (for example, by avoiding using turbo mode all the time), you’ll find that the battery lasts long enough for most rides without any issues.
Please check that e-biking is covered under your travel insurance. Our e-bikes are pedal-assist and comply with UK/EU regulations on power limits (unless stated otherwise for specific destinations).
Can I book on my own?
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Who is running the trip?
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).
For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
Why are your adventures only for adults?
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
Who else will be on my trip?
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way. What's the weather like?
The Peloponnese is known for its sunny and warm weather. We run this trip in April, May, September and October: the best months to visit this part of Greece. The average temperatures during these months are typically in the mid- to high-20sºC (70-80ºF) during the day and in the low- to mid-20sºC (60-70ºF) at night. The months of July and August are more crowded and the temperatures can reach uncomfortable highs, so we don't currently offer trips in the Peloponnese during these months.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 122kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
