Touch down at Tbilisi International Airport, where a private transfer whisks you to your boutique hotel in the heart of the city. While transfers run all day, we recommend arriving by early afternoon to soak up a bit of Georgia’s captivating capital. Once you’re settled, meet your guide and fellow travellers for a quick briefing before heading out for a relaxed walking tour through Tbilisi’s old town – wander past carved balconies, leafy courtyards and tucked-away wine bars. Visit the 13th-century Metekhi Church, then ride the cable car to the ancient Narikala Fortress for panoramic views over the city and river below. This evening, dive into your first taste of Georgian hospitality with a welcome dinner at a local restaurant, where you’ll sample classic dishes and bold flavours. You’ll spend the night in comfort at a stylish 4-star hotel before heading into the wild Caucasus Mountains tomorrow.

Today, grab breakfast and hit the road along the spectacular Georgian Military Highway, winding deep into the Greater Caucasus Mountains. Your destination is Stepantsminda, a picturesque town tucked beneath snow-capped peaks. On arrival, tuck into a traditional lunch with a local family – you’ll even get hands-on making khinkali, Georgia’s beloved dumplings. Later, stretch your legs on a short but rewarding hike to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church, perched at 2170m with sweeping views of Mount Kazbegi and the surrounding highlands. For the next three nights, you’ll stay at Rooms Kazbegi, a 4-star mountain retreat set against a backdrop of breathtaking scenery. Unwind in the spa, take a dip in the indoor pool overlooking the peaks, or sip Georgian wine on the panoramic terrace. Tonight, head into town for a family-style dinner at a cosy local restaurant and dig into hearty regional dishes served with trademark Georgian warmth.

After breakfast, leave Stepantsminda behind and venture into the remote and beautiful Truso Valley, one of the Greater Caucasus’ hidden gems. This high-altitude valley winds through dramatic peaks, colourful mineral springs, ancient towers and otherworldly travertine formations. You’ll pass abandoned villages and crumbling stone houses, a haunting reminder of a once-thriving mountain community. It’s a glimpse into Georgia’s rural past and a chance to experience the raw, untamed side of the Caucasus. After a picnic lunch, return to the hotel where you can take a dip in the pool, sweat it out in the sauna, or grab a drink on the terrace. This evening, dine in style at the hotel’s restaurant or head into town for another dose of local hospitality.

This morning, head deep into the Greater Caucasus via the winding Sno Valley road, bound for Juta – a remote alpine village perched at 2160 metres. Take a short hike up to Zeta Camp, a rustic outpost with knockout views, and saddle up for a beginner-friendly horseback adventure beneath the jagged Chaukhi Massif – Georgia’s answer to the Dolomites. Follow scenic trails to Chaukhi Lake, and if the weather’s on your side, go for a refreshing dip. After a picnic lunch in the wild, return to Stepantsminda for your final night in the mountains. Unwind at the hotel or head into town for one last Georgian feast before tomorrow’s journey south.

Kick off the day with a drive east to Kakheti, Georgia’s legendary wine region and the birthplace of some of the world’s oldest winemaking traditions. On the way, stop to explore Ananuri Fortress, a clifftop stronghold with fairytale towers and sweeping views over the Aragvi River. Then it’s into the heart of Kakheti for a leisurely lunch and wine tasting at a local vineyard, where you’ll try Georgian wine made using the qvevri method – buried clay vessels to ferment and store wine naturally. In the afternoon, stroll through sun-drenched vines from Mosmieri to Kondoli Winery, where you’ll dive deeper into Georgia’s 8000-year-old winemaking heritage. Then, check into your Standout Stay of the trip, Qvevrebi Hotel – a boutique wine retreat, where each room is shaped like a giant qvevri clay vessel. Clever, cosy and set among the vineyards, it’s the perfect spot to toast the sunset and wind down for the night.

Fuel up with a hearty breakfast, then hop on an e-bike for a leisurely ride through the rolling hills of Kakheti. With the gentle boost, the bike ride to Kvareli is manageable for all levels. You’ll cycle past vineyards and orchards with cracking views of the Alazani Valley, stopping to explore Gremi Monastery – a 16th-century hilltop citadel with a big slice of history. Roll into Kvareli in time for a home-cooked lunch with a welcoming local family. Try your hand at making churchkhela, a grape and nut sweet that’s a Georgian favourite, and settle in for a delicious feast led by a tamada (toastmaster) who will share heartfelt toasts and stories. Later, return to the iconic Qvevrebi Hotel for a second unique night among the vines. Unwind with a spa session, dip in the pool or tuck into an optional à la carte dinner, the perfect full stop to another brilliant day in Georgia’s wine country.

Begin your day with a stroll through Telavi’s lively farmer’s market, where stalls brim with fresh herbs and ripe fruits, local cheeses and traditional Georgian goods – a sensory introduction to the bounty of the region. Then it’s on to Sighnaghi, an 18th-century hilltop town famed for its cobbled streets, colourful balconies and ancient fortified walls. From here, soak up sweeping views over the Alazani Valley, backed by the snow-dusted peaks of the Greater Caucasus. At midday, you’ll be welcomed into a local family’s home for an authentic farm-to-table lunch, prepared with seasonal ingredients from their land and served with homemade Georgian wine. It’s a warm and personal window into rural life in Kakheti. In the afternoon, return to Tbilisi and head straight to the city’s iconic sulphur baths, a centuries-old tradition and the perfect way to kick back after a week of adventure. FAQs
What if things don't go to plan?
Should external factors (such as severe weather conditions) cause alterations to what is possible, then the ordering of the above itinerary, activity inclusions and durations and/or the exact number of days spent in each location may have to change. The local host will endeavour to ensure that any replacement activities are of a similar style.
How many guides and support crew will there be on my trip?
You’ll be accompanied by one qualified, English-speaking local guide throughout the trip (up to 12 people per group). During the e-bike ride, a support vehicle will follow to provide assistance or give you the option to cut the ride short if needed.
What do I do about drinking water?
Tap water in Georgia is not safe to drink, so please avoid refilling bottles directly from the tap. Some accommodations provide purified water each morning, so it’s a good idea to bring one or two reusable water bottles. To reduce plastic waste where filtered water isn’t available, we recommend bringing water purification tablets or a personal purification system. Whenever possible, your host will also supply filtered water tanks during transfers or before activities.
What type of bikes are provided?
You’ll be riding a specialised Turbo Levo Alloy, a high-quality, battery-assisted e-bike designed to make pedalling easier, particularly on hills. The routes follow winding, paved roads, but the e-bike’s motor offers a helpful boost when needed. No prior e-bike experience is necessary, though you should be comfortable cycling on roads.

Can my dietary requirements be catered for on this adventure?
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location and accommodation, and in some places options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully prior to your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.
Once you have booked on your trip, please fill out your passenger information form asap with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.
BACKGROUND
Georgian cuisine is deeply shaped by the country’s position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, where centuries of trade and a fertile agricultural landscape have produced a rich and distinctive food culture. Meals are generous and communal, typically featuring bread, cheese, walnut-based sauces, grilled meats, beans, and seasonal vegetables, with wine playing a central cultural role. Vegetarian and vegan diets can be very well accommodated, with a wide variety of plant-based dishes available throughout the country. Travellers with less common dietary requirements should expect more limited awareness outside cities and tourist areas, though guides can help communicate needs to local hosts.
SPECIAL DIETS Vegetarian -Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. While many traditional Georgian dishes are often centered around meat, vegetarian requirements can generally be accommodated and there is still a wide variety of suitable and flavorful options available.
Georgian cuisine offers a rich selection of naturally vegetarian dishes, including Lobio (slow-cooked beans with herbs and spices), Badrijani Nigvzit (eggplant with walnut paste), fresh seasonal salads, cheese varieties, baked breads and an assortment of vegetable dishes prepared with walnuts, garlic and aromatic herbs. Many dishes are either vegetarian by nature or can be adapted upon request.
Restaurants are happy to make adjustments where possible to suit dietary needs. However, in more rural areas, vegetarian choices may be more limited, and menus can be simpler or less varied compared to larger cities. Packed lunches are carefully prepared in advance and can be arranged to suit vegetarian preferences if requested. They typically include a selection of fresh, locally sourced items such as bread, cheese, vegetables, fruit and other simple, nourishing components, ensuring a convenient and satisfying options.
Vegan -Vegan diets are difficult to cater for on this trip. While your host will do their best to meet these requirements, please be aware that the required produce and ingredients are not abundant in this destination and you may find the food provided repetitive.
Georgian cuisine does include some naturally plant-based elements such as vegetables, beans, fresh salads, bread and walnut-based preparations. However, the frequent use of cheese, butter and other dairy products in traditional cooking means that suitable alternatives are limited and often require careful adaptation.
Restaurants may be able to make adjustments where possible, but vegan-friendly options are not widely established and can be particularly limited outside larger cities. In rural areas, meal choices tend to be simpler, with less variety and fewer reliable plant-based protein sources. Packed lunches are prepared in advance and can be arranged with vegan requirements when clearly advised. They typically include basic items such as bread, vegetables, fruit, nuts and other simple provisions, though variety and balance may be more limited compared to other dietary preferences.
Please do consider bringing your favourite snacks or food supplements from home to ensure that you always have enough fuel for your adventure.
Kosher -Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are rare and usually cannot be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
Halal -Certified Halal supply varies by destination and may not always be possible. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
INTOLERANCES
Gluten Free -Gluten-free diets are difficult to cater for on this trip. While your host will do their best to meet these requirements, please be aware that the required produce and ingredients are not abundant in this destination, and you may find the food provided repetitive.
Georgian cuisine includes a number of naturally gluten-free dishes such as grilled meats, vegetable stews, fresh salads, beans, cheese and walnut-based dishes. However, bread and wheat-based products are a staple of the local diet and cross-contamination may be difficult to fully avoid due to shared kitchen environments.
Restaurants and hosts are usually able to adapt meals where possible, especially in larger towns and cities. In more rural areas, choices may be simpler and less varied, but suitable alternatives can still be provided with advance notice. Packed lunches can also be prepared with gluten-free requirements when clearly communicated in advance, typically including items such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, nuts and other naturally gluten-free components.
Please do consider bringing your favorite snacks or food supplements from home to ensure that you always have enough fuel for your adventure.
Lactose Free -Lactose-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Georgian cuisine includes several naturally lactose-free dishes such as grilled meats, vegetable stews, fresh salads, beans, bread (unless buttered) and walnut-based preparations. However, dairy products such as cheese, butter and sour cream are widely used in traditional cooking, so care is needed when selecting suitable dishes.
Restaurants and hosts are usually able to adapt meals where possible, particularly in larger towns and cities. In more rural areas, lactose-free choices may be more limited and menus can be simpler, but suitable options can still be arranged with advance notice.
Packed lunches can also be prepared with lactose-free requirements when clearly communicated in advance, typically including items such as fruit, vegetables, nuts, bread and other naturally lactose-free components.
ALLERGIES
Our host has confirmed that they are able to accommodate mild allergies to the 14 allergens identified by the UK Food Standards Agency, where these are disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy, please get in touch with our Customer Experience team prior to booking to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip. This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority.
Please note that when travelling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods and labelling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. Whilst your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.
Add any specific limitations or important details here: Walnuts and other nuts are commonly used ingredients in Georgian cuisine, particularly in traditional dishes, sauces, and pastes, and are an important part of the local food culture. Allergies involving nuts can therefore be accommodated where clearly communicated in advance, and alternative options will be considered where possible.

What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.

What's the weather like?
Average summer temperatures in Georgia typically range from 25–35°C in the lower valleys. However, it’s noticeably cooler on the plateaus and high in the mountains, especially when exposed to wind. Mountain weather is famously unpredictable, so it’s essential to pack wet weather gear and layers to adjust your temperature as needed. Dry, sunny days are common (sun protection is important), and while rain is rare at this time of year, it can still occur.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 341kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
