Itinerary
Day 1
To the Argolic Coast
Driving2hrsCycling1hr · 10km · 30m upHotelTwin shareDinner includedShow Day 1 detailHide detail
Your adventure begins at Athens Airport, where you'll be met by your local host and travel as a group to the elegant seaside town of Nafplio. After a bike fitting, you'll pedal an easy, flat ride to Karathona beach for a swim in the sea, before returning to your hotel. In the evening, you'll gather for a welcome dinner, a chance to get to know the rest of the group and hear more about the days ahead.
Day 2
Through the hills to Epidaurus's ancient theatre
Cycling5hrs · 54km · 750m up · 750m downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 2 detailHide detail
Today brings the longest ride of the trip, cycling from the Argolic Coast across to the Saronic Coast at a relaxed pace, with regular stops along the way. You'll wind through the villages of Drepano and Kantia before a steady climb through pine-covered hills to Lygourio, the highest point of the day. From there you'll descend to the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, the best-preserved of its kind in Greece, known for its remarkable acoustics. You'll stop for a picnic lunch outside the site, before exploring the theatre itself. Back on the bikes, a gentle descent brings you down to the coast, finishing the day at a family-run hotel in the centre of Epidaurus. If time allows, there's the option to cycle on to the nearby sunken city, where snorkelling equipment will be provided for anyone keen to swim over these fascinating submerged ruins. Dinner isn't included this evening, so you're free to choose a local restaurant yourself, or your guide can recommend and book somewhere for the group.
Day 3
Coastal roads to the Methana volcano
Cycling4hrs · 38km · 650m up · 650m downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 3 detailHide detail
Wake up and tuck into breakfast before getting back on the bike to ride quiet, paved roads along the Peloponnesian coast, tracing the shoreline south from ancient Epidaurus with the sea rarely out of view. An early climb out of the town gives way to a long, rolling stretch through the villages of Kalloni and Metamorfosi. Dig deep for a short, sharp climb onto the volcanic Methana peninsula, before stopping for a picnic lunch at one of the seaside villages along the way, then continuing to Taktikoupoli at the western edge of the Peloponnese. The day ends in Methana town, a spa town built around volcanic hot springs. A palm-lined promenade runs along the waterfront, and you can walk out to the green peninsula of Agioi Anargyroi next to the port.
Day 4
From Methana's crater to the shores of Poros
Cycling4hrs · 40km · 300m up · 300m downHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 4 detailHide detail
This morning is all about the Methana volcano. Your guide will talk you through the options for getting to the viewpoint, depending on conditions – you can choose to hike up (a steep hour of walking, but well worth it for the views across the peninsula), be driven up, or skip it and take a lie in. Back in Methana, get on your bike to continue cycling, climbing away from the coast past Metamorfosi before dropping down through the ancient town of Troezen and on to Galatas, where you'll stop for a picnic lunch before crossing by short ferry to the laid-back island of Poros. Here, join a loop around Poros, pedalling past the Agios Nektarios monastery and the summit of Profitis Ilias, with a stop at the beach for a swim and a visit to the ancient ruins of the Temple of Poseidon (if you feel you've had enough cycling for the day, you can always skip the ride and explore the walkable seaside village of Poros on foot instead). In the evening, you'll gather for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant by Poros's main port, to mark the end of the trip.
Day 5
Back to Athens
Driving2hrsBreakfast includedShow Day 5 detailHide detail
After a final morning taking in the island atmosphere, you'll cross by small ferry to Galatas, then drive back to Athens, marking the end of your adventure. Be sure to book any return flights for after 16:00. If you'd rather extend your trip, Poros is a great spot to relax for a few days.

What's not included
Our trips do not include flights, trains or other travel to the start point and back from the end point.
Two dinners have not been included, to allow you to sample some local restaurants in the locations you stay at. We recommend you budget about £20/€25 per meal to cover these.
Tips are not included in the trip cost. These are entirely at your discretion, but there is an expectation to tip for good service. Your host can help with advice; however, we suggest the below as a guideline:
- €5-10 per day for the guide and support staff
Of course, you are free to tip more or less, and the amount should be reflective of your perception of service and quality – a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service.
You know your own spending habits best, so please budget an appropriate amount for things like optional food and drinks, shopping and laundry.
Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures, and you'll need to provide your policy details before departure. Your insurance should offer adequate cover for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment, and the specific activities involved in your adventure. We also recommend ensuring your policy includes cancellation and curtailment cover, in case you're unable to join your trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness.
Standard travel insurance may not cover all the activities included in your adventure, so it's essential to check the details carefully. There are adventure-specific providers that many travellers have used in the past, such as True Traveller (opens in new tab) (for those based in the UK or Europe), or Rise + Shield (opens in new tab), both of which offer cover for a wide range of adventurous activities.
Please make sure your chosen policy meets your individual needs and covers all aspects of your trip.
Visa requirements often change, and you are responsible for obtaining any required visas for this trip. Please check with your nearest embassy or consulate for up-to-date advice.

FAQs
How does a Much Better Adventures cycling trip work?
It's no secret that we love cycling and many of us at HQ think it's the best way to see a country, however, we realise that organising your own trip can be a total faff. On our cycling trips, we’ve found a local guide who has put together a perfect route and will navigate for you all the way. We also send a van that transports your overnight luggage and provide high-quality bikes and delicious snacks to keep you going. Faff eliminated!
All you have to do is turn up, pedal and take in the amazing landscape with your fellow tourers. You will cycle at your own pace, with regular stops to regroup so that no-one gets left behind.
What type of bikes are provided?
You'll be riding an Ideal Megisto hardtail hybrid bike (or similar). A hybrid bike sits between a road bike and a mountain bike – it's built for a comfortable, upright riding position with wider tyres than a road bike for extra stability, and it's a forgiving, easy-to-handle choice. Your height is required to ensure the correct frame size is supplied.
Before your trip, your host will ask for your height to ensure the correct frame size is provided. Each bike is equipped with a water bottle cage, standard flat pedals, and male/standard saddles. If you prefer to use your own saddle and pedals (including SPDs), feel free to bring them, and they’ll be fitted for you.
Will the brakes be set up the way I'm used to? Brake set-up varies by country, in Greece your bike's brakes may may be on the opposite side to what you're used to at home (your rear brake lever will be on the right rather than the left. Your guide will cover this during your bike fitting and warm-up ride – just let them know if this is unfamiliar to you so they can help you get comfortable with it before you set off.
Can I bring my own bike? Bringing your own bike is discouraged. This is due to a lack of storage for bike boxes/bags, and also, the support trailers are tailored to fit the bikes the host provides, which means safe carriage of your personal bike cannot be guaranteed. In addition, your own bike may require special parts for maintenance which may not be locally available, nor possible for the support vehicle mechanics to repair, so the use of the bikes provided by your host is recommended.
Will we cycle point to point?
Yes, you will cycle point to point during the trip. Each day, you'll travel from one location to the next, cycling through rural and coastal landscapes, from Nafplio to Poros.
What's the guide to cyclists ratio?
For groups of 1-7 cyclists you'll have one cycle guide; for groups of eight or more people, there will be two cycle guides. Throughout, you will also be accompanied by a support vehicle driven by a bike mechanic.
Can my dietary requirements be catered for on this adventure?
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location and accommodation, and in some places options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully prior to your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.
Once you have booked on your trip, please fill out your passenger information form asap with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.
BACKGROUND
Greek food has been shaped by centuries of home cooking, Orthodox fasting traditions and a climate that favours olives, vegetables and legumes. Long stretches without meat or dairy have led to a brilliant variety of plant-based dishes, many of which are still everyday staples. Meals tend to be simple, seasonal and centred around olive oil, with pulses, grains and vegetables doing the heavy lifting. Meals are often eaten in the traditional Greek way, ordering a selection of dishes which are shared between the group. It’s a great destination for vegetarians, vegans and the lactose-free. If you're gluten-free or have more specific allergies, you'll still find options but just be ready to explain your needs clearly, especially in smaller or more remote tavernas (your guide will help you with this).
SPECIAL DIETS
Vegetarian
Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Greek cuisine offers a wide range of excellent vegetarian options such as Greek salad, fava (yellow split pea purée), dolmades (vine leaves stuffed with rice and herbs), spanakopita (spinach pie), gemista (stuffed peppers and tomatoes), gigantes (baked giant beans), grilled vegetables, and a variety of mezze.
Vegan Vegan diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. Vegan-friendly dishes may include lentil soup (fakes), gigantes beans, briam (roasted mixed vegetables), okra in tomato sauce, stuffed vine leaves, horta (boiled wild greens), salads, and many vegetable-based mezze prepared with olive oil and herbs.
Kosher
Fully certified Kosher kitchens and supervision are rare and usually cannot be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
Halal
Certified Halal supply varies by location and is often not possible. Vegetarian or vegan options can often be the most reliable alternative if this is acceptable to you. Please read the related sections above.
INTOLERANCES
Gluten-Free (for Coeliac, please see Allergies section below)
Gluten-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. However, options will be more limited than for those without dietary requirements. While many Greek dishes are naturally gluten-free (such as grilled meats, fish, salads, vegetables and legumes), bread and pastry are common at meals, and awareness of cross-contamination can vary. While your local hosts will do their best, it’s worth knowing that gluten-free specialist supplies are generally only available in Athens. In more remote areas, it's not possible to source specialist products, so meals will be based on naturally gluten-free dishes rather than substitutes. We recommend bringing some of your own snacks or supplements, especially when travelling in more rural regions.
Lactose Free
Lactose-Free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided that your host is made aware in advance. While dairy (particularly feta and yoghurt) features prominently in Greek cuisine, many traditional dishes are naturally lactose-free or can be prepared without dairy, including grilled meats or fish, vegetable stews, legumes, salads, rice dishes and mezze based on olive oil, lemon and herbs rather than cheese or yoghurt. Nonetheless, we recommend bringing some of your own snacks or supplements, especially when travelling in more rural regions.
ALLERGIES
Your host has confirmed that they are able to accommodate mild allergies to the 14 allergens (opens in new tab) identified by the UK Food Standards Agency, where these are disclosed in advance. However, if you have a severe or life-threatening food allergy, please get in touch with our Customer Experience team prior to booking to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip. This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority.
Please note that when travelling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods and labelling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. Whilst your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.
What do I do about drinking water?
The support vehicle will have large containers of water that you are able to top your water bottles up with.
What if things don't go to plan?
In the event of poor weather such as heavy rain, strong winds and/or storms, it is possible that conditions may become unsafe to complete the planned rides on this trip. Your guide will assess the conditions and weather forecasts and make a decision with your safety in mind. If it becomes necessary to make a change to the planned itinerary, an alternative route or activity will be offered.
Can I upgrade to an e-bike on this trip?
E-bike upgrades are not available for this trip; you’ll be riding hybrid bikes as listed in the trip inclusions. Keeping everyone on the same bike type helps maintain a comfortable group pace, simplifies logistics and ensures a more inclusive experience. We do, however, have a growing collection of e-bike adventures (opens in new tab) which you can explore.
Do I need to bring my own cycle helmet?
Yes, you need to bring your own cycle helmet on this adventure. It should meet recognised safety standards, display a relevant certification mark, and be in good condition. It is mandatory for all riders to wear a helmet whenever cycling.
Please make sure your helmet is:
-
A purpose-built cycling helmet that meets a recognised safety standard and displays a relevant certification mark, including (but not limited to):
- CE/EN 1078 (UK & Europe)
- CPSC or Snell B90/B95 (USA)
- AS/NZS 2063 (Australia & New Zealand)
-
In good condition:
- ideally no more than five years old
- not involved in a crash
- no visible cracks/dents, compressed foam, or damaged straps
-
A good fit:
- sits level (not tipped back)
- snug, secure and stable when fastened (doesn't rock or slide)
- retention system and straps work properly
If your helmet isn’t suitable on arrival:
- you may need to rent or buy a suitable helmet locally (availability varies by destination)
- if a suitable helmet can't be sourced, you may be unable to join some or all cycling activities on safety grounds, in line with your booking conditions
Need help choosing or fitting a helmet?
For advice see British Cycling’s guidance (opens in new tab).
Cycle Safety Please see our cycling safety guidance (opens in new tab) for further information.
Can I book on my own?
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Who is running the trip?
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with (opens in new tab). You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website (opens in new tab), where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).
For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information (opens in new tab) and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
Why are your adventures only for adults?
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
Who else will be on my trip?
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.
Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.
Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way. Check out our Community Values (opens in new tab) – a shared code to make sure that everyone's experience is safe, inclusive and brilliantly unforgettable.
It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.
Don't just take our word for it:
- 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
- 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
- 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends
See here (opens in new tab) for more info about the Much Better Adventures tribe.
What's the weather like?
The Peloponnese enjoys warm, sunny weather for much of the year, and we run this trip in April, May, September and October – the best months for cycling this part of Greece. Daytime temperatures typically range from the low-20sºC (68ºF) in April and October up to the high-20sºC (82ºF) in May and September, ideal riding conditions without the intense heat of summer. Evenings are noticeably cooler, generally between 10 and 18ºC (50-64ºF), so pack a layer for after the ride. July and August bring more crowds and temperatures that can climb into the mid-30sºC, uncomfortably hot for cycling, so we don't currently run trips in the Peloponnese during these months.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
What's the number?
It works out on average at 118kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here (opens in new tab).
