Detailed Logistics

Transfers

On Day 1, there's a fixed-time group transfer from Bergen Airport to your accommodation in Voss. For the 2026 season, the transfer is timed to match the arrival of Norwegian Air’s direct flight from London Gatwick (Flight DY1317, or DY1315 for the departure on Saturday 18 April 2026).

  • For departures starting on Thursdays and Fridays between 18 June and 14 August 2026 inclusive, the transfer departs Bergen Airport at 13:00. Any flight arriving by 12:30 will work.
  • For all other 2026 departure dates, the transfer departs at 12:30. Any flight arriving by 12:00 is fine.

If you can’t arrive in time for the group transfer, it’s easy to reach Voss by train — see the FAQs for details.

On Day 4, a group transfer back to Bergen Airport is planned to match Norwegian Air’s evening flight to London Gatwick (Flight DY1318). As Bergen Airport is small, an 18:00 drop-off allows enough time to catch a flight departing at 19:00. Please don’t book a flight departing before 19:00.

Note: there is no direct evening flight from Bergen to London operating on the following trip end date: Saturday 22 August 2026. You may wish to fly indirect or book post-tour accommodation and fly direct the following day.

(Transfer times for 2027 will be confirmed in October 2026 and may change.)

Travel options

There are regular flights to Bergen from major airports in the UK and Europe - either direct or via Oslo. If you cannot meet the transfer, it is very quick and easy to get the train from Bergen to Voss, or get a train all the way from Oslo. See FAQs for more details.

Trip level explained

Level 4

Moderate-Challenging

You really do not need any kayaking experience. Your guide will give you full instructions and a safety briefing at the start. You’ll just need reasonable levels of fitness to handle approx 25km of relaxed paddling over two days, a day of hiking and be up for camping out overnight.

The hike is not for beginners and is very challenging, particularly if it is or has been wet. You'll gain over a thousand metres in elevation during the hike and early in the season (April, May and occasionally early June) there can be snow on the ground (sometimes quite deep) which adds to the challenge. The same can apply late in the season too. We would only recommend this hike if you are an active person with hiking experience. It just takes a bit of time getting up the steep section but don’t worry, it’s no race to the top.

The route is about 10km each way, making a total hike of 20.7km. The elevation is sea level to 1,189m and quite steep in places. The hike is about 8 to 11 hours return, with an awesome view from the ridge at the top to the fjord below.

What if i need to skip an activity?

There should be no problem with staying back at camp during the hiking day for someone not wanting to hike. It may also be possible to just come along for the first part of the hike and then return to the camp, this does depend on where the group is actually camped as this may affect options. Alternatively, you could consider booking the Kayak and Wild Camp Norwegian Fjords (opens in new tab) trip instead.

What will I need to carry?

For the hike, you'll only need to carry a small daypack with personal items, spare clothing layers, snacks, a packed lunch, and a water bottle. See the Kit List and FAQs for further details about packing and luggage.

Remote environment: factors to consider

Some parts of this trip take place in areas where access to medical facilities and emergency services may be limited. This may mean that reaching medical care takes longer than you might normally expect, or that local medical facilities have fewer resources than those you may be used to at home.

If someone becomes unwell or injured, initial treatment may be provided locally before onward travel to a larger hospital or city for further care. Evacuation could involve changing the planned route or using different forms of transport to reach appropriate medical facilities. Mobile phone coverage may also be intermittent in some locations.

Your guide is trained to manage situations in remote environments and will monitor the group and respond appropriately if any issues arise. However, it’s important that you let your guide know straight away if you feel unwell or experience any health concerns during the trip.

Before booking, consider your personal health and ability to travel in locations where access to medical care may be delayed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns, we recommend seeking advice from a medical professional and discussing them with your host before travelling.

All travellers must have suitable travel insurance that covers the activities included in the trip and emergency medical evacuation if required.

This was my first much better adventure trip and it exceeded my expectations. Norway is stunning! The trip was very well organised, we were well looked after and our guide Emma was brilliant.

The trip was amazing and the landscape - just stunning! It was, however, much more challenging than we all thought it would be. . . worth it!

The trip led by Nordic Adventures and Ryan our guide could not have been more welcoming and prepared. Ryan was an expert on the area and kept our spirits up despite the weather challenges. Would highly recommend the trip and ensure your fit!

What a wild weekend! Loved every minute of it. The kayaking, hiking, wild swimming, camping, exploring was amazing. Such a treat to see the beauty of the Norwegian fjords in this way. The hike was closer to 26km rather than 20 (our group used Strava to record it) with 1400m elevation. But our guide Danika was encouraging at every turn and did a great job getting everyone up / down safely with optional alternatives. The meals were amazing, sleeping was cozy in the tents…a slight pity that our campsite was on a pitched angle which meant our tents had to be set up on a slope but this added to the adventure. We were so lucky to see dolphins swimming alongside us and had wild goats following us along the fjord edge. It was the trip of a lifetime! Would highly recommend and would do it all over again. As a side note - Our group added one night in Bergen after the trip to get a good nights rest and explore the beautiful city before flying back to London.

First time doing a solo trip so was quite anxious about it before hand but I shouldn't have worried because it was amazing. Our group was great, our guide Tachelle was fantastic and the experience of kayaking and hiking through the fjords was unforgettable. I would 100% recommend the trip! Thinking of booking my next one. . .

I couldn’t have hoped for anything more on our weekend trip, an amazing guide, smooth transitions and immersion in the landscape with a brilliant group of people. Loved every bit of it.

What a great trip kayaking in the Norwegian fjords and hike up to over 1000m. Amazing scenery and great fun group who all really gelled. Logistics all seamless. The whole trip was made really special by our super guide Tachelle who ensured everything worked seamlessly and kept us fed, watered, informed and entertained. Highly recommended.

A perfect weekend with the best balance of activities and rest. The kayaking was so serene, gliding through the most incredible landscapes that hardly seemed real. The hike was a fantastic day and a real mix of terrain, including snow! Poles would have been helpful on the way down in some of the steeper sections, so I’d recommend taking some. The food was delicious and plentiful. Snacks were always available, as was tea / coffee. All in all, it was one of the best things I’ve done and I loved every minute!

    Ross L. June 2026
From start to finish one of the best trips I have been on. We used MBA to take the hassle out of a group adventure holiday where we wanted a bit of a challenge and to see an incredible part of the world and they totally delivered. From the pre trip Q&A where no question was too silly or not answered swiftly to the trip itself, everything was so well organised and exactly as described on the website (the pictures on the site say it all). Catering so well for our vegan member while camping made a refreshing change for him too. Our guide, Emma R, was amazing. Not only a lovely person to spend time with as part of the group but couldn’t have been more hard working and intent on making sure we all got the most out of the trip, a massive thanks to her and the rest of the Nordic Ventures team. Would definitely use MBA again for any outdoor activity trip we want to go on.

Had an amazing, awesome, fantastic, superb trip……the list goes on…. The group dynamics were just spot on, the scenery breathtaking, the organisation couldn’t have been better, the weather sublime and our guide (Tachelle) was everything you want in a guide 🙏❤️ Thank you for a wonderful experience

    Philip H. June 2026
What an awesome trip. I was lucky enough to be part of a superb group of travellers who went on a short trip that was completely nuts! We paddled, we trecked, we karaoke’d. I have refound a lost love of Cheesy Whatsits. The trip was simply a triumph with a rockstar of a guide! I ❤️ Norway. 🇳🇴 🥃

The three day Norwegian adventure with Emma was the absolute best!! I considered the price to be very reasonable with everything that’s included. The group was just the right size and Emma did an amazing job keeping us motivated through the days of hiking and paddling. They said to pack snacks but Emma brought ALLLL THE SNACKS! She kept us well fed with food that we all agreed was better than expected and made us feel spoiled with little surprises around every corner. The only thing better than the scenery was the company!
  • Amazing kayaking and hiking adventure with new friends

    Rebecca G. June 2026
First MAB trip and had the most wonderful time. MAB made everything seamless, and our guide, Peter, was amazing. He made sure everyone felt comfortable throughout the whole trip-whether it was on the water or on land! Kayaking in the fjords was serene, and the hike was challenging but beautiful at every stage. I’m already recommending this trip to friends who want fun, physical activity (which varied in difficulty level and was challenging at points), and beautiful scenery. 10/10 recommend.
  • The most amazing enjoyable trip

  • 5-Star Adventure: An Unforgettable Fjord Experience!

    Rachael W. June 2026
Our kayaking and trekking holiday in the Norwegian Fjords, with Nordic Ventures, booked through Much Better Adventures has been nothing short of spectacular! Paddling along on the crystal clear water with breathtaking views in such peace and tranquility, will stay with us forever. The hike was everything we hoped for with rivers, waterfalls, ice bridges, snow (with snow shoes ) and views from what felt like the top of world across stunning landscapes. Our guide, Peter, was simply fantastic. He went above and beyond every single day, whether on land or on the water, keeping a good pace to suit everyone, leaving no-one out, encouraging everyone, whilst ensuring we always had everything we needed. Peter's capacity to keep all 12 of us happy, safe, engaged, informed, well-fed and hydrated, was incredible. His knowledge and skills gave our group immense confidence on the water and the hike, and we loved our achievements. The food was another massive highlight—plentiful, hearty, and exactly what was needed after a long day of physical activity. Peter cooked all of that too. He worked tirelessly to ensure meals snacks, and drinks were always available when we needed. To top it off, we were blessed with a wonderful group of travelers who have become friends. We were different ages, from different backgrounds and a range of experiences. We had different reasons for going on this trip, but none of that mattered as we became united in our desire to support and encourage eachother, and in our thrill of taking part in our wonderful, challenging adventure TOGETHER. We're hoping the friendships will continue as the camaraderie, chatter, support and laughs we shared made this a holiday truly fantastic! If you're considering an active, immersive getaway in Norway, just do it! Highly recommended.

Had a fantastic time in Norway on the fjords. It was a last minute booking and I'm so glad I did. The Nordic Ventures team were great, and facilitated the trip really well. The hike was challenging but managed well, and the kayaking was really fun. Really enjoyed the camping, and especially the bonfire/BBQ dinners :-)

I chose this adventure to celebrate a big birthday, I really wanted it to be amazing, but due to the weather, no fault of Nordic Ventures running it, we couldn’t get to our kayaks to start our trip, it would of been so easy for them to cancel or postpone the start, but they went to huge lengths to make it work for us, the dedication and hard work to ensure our weekend could continue was really quite amazing, and so it carried on, our group leader, Callum, had the same qualities and with his spirited guidance the weekend was everything I wanted it to be and more. Thank you to Nordic Ventures, and the brilliant Callum for making it so. Jo.

This was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on! The fjords were gorgeous, I loved the hike with the beautiful view and honestly our guide Chelsi was the biggest gem. She made the trip incredibly fun, easy and comfortable. She was really knowledgeable and shared great fun facts along the way! Would recommend this trip to anyone!
  • Stunning, unforgettable trip

    Simone B. May 2026
I booked this 3-night trip with a friend and it absolutely didn’t disappoint. The Nordic Ventures team were fantastic from start to finish, and Ryan, our guide, was brilliant. We had such a lovely mixed group too — couples, friends and solo travellers — 9 women and 2 men in total. The kayaking was peaceful and beautiful, passing waterfall after waterfall through landscapes that felt like another world. It wasn’t too tough at all; we kept a steady pace, and Ryan made sure everyone stayed together while sharing stories about the landscape along the way. The hike was incredible. Challenging in parts, but everything around us was so beautiful that it made it easy to keep going. The scenery and terrain kept changing constantly — more waterfalls everywhere, streams to hop across, sheep to dodge. Again, Ryan made sure everyone felt looked after and was doing well throughout. The fjord-side camp was incredibly charming too. The tents were decent, with warm sleeping bags and roll mats provided — although I was definitely glad I brought a pillow! Ryan took such good care of us: cooking great meals (BBQ, curry, pancakes, pasta), keeping us stocked with snacks whenever we needed them (biscuits, trail mix, chocolate, crisps, fruit, marshmallows, sweets/lollies), and somehow always appearing with hot tea, coffee or soup at exactly the right moment. The hot towels first thing in the morning were such a thoughtful touch. He was knowledgeable, calm, efficient, and always smiling — genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better guide. We had a lot of rain, but honestly it didn’t bother us. The camp shelter was great, and packing the right clothes made all the difference. Everyone in the group pitched in too — helping set up camp, prepare meals, wash up, grab the tarp when the wind picked up (!), and keep the campfire going. Having such a good group really made the trip even more special. The weather caused a few hiccups along the way, but the Nordic Ventures team handled everything brilliantly and kept things running smoothly. Overall, a brilliant trip, and one I’d do again in a heartbeat — whether with friends, my husband, or solo. I’d probably invest in even better waterproofs and maybe a better sleeping mat if I could fit one in my bag, but it was completely worth the money.
  • Fantastic experience.

    Jane L. May 2026
The whole weekend was amazing but quite a challenge. The information on the website mentions a hike, we were climbing in snow and needed snow shoes for the summit. These were provided but it was certainly more challenge than a hike!!
  • Hike, Camp & Kayak in the Norwegian Fjords - 4 days

    Jessica B. May 2026
I had the best time on this trip - loved every single second, from start to finish! Ian our tour guide was brilliant and really took us on an adventure. The itinerary worked perfectly - including all the activities, meals, camping and time for our group to chill, chat and even roast marshmallows around the campfire! Our group got on really well and was full of people from all walks of life. Lots of laughs, good chats and memories made along the way. . . thank you to everyone behind the scenes for making this trip what it is. Don't hesitate to book!
  • Incredible experience, fantastically organised - no criticisms at all!

    Cara P. May 2026
I don't tend to write many reviews but this trip felt worthy of one. We did the 3 day kayak, hike and wild camping in the fjords and it was incredible! A seamless experience from start to end, extremely well organised and all staff were super friendly. Its run abit like a military operation making sure everyone had what they need and to get the best experience. They keep you very well feed too. A special shout out to our amazing guide, Tach, she was absolutely brilliant 10/10. If your thinking of doing this trip I would extremely recommend it. We had a group of 4 of us, mixture of family and friends, but lots of the group of 12 were solo travelling and it was such a great laugh. Everyone got on well and made the experience even more memorable.

  • Nor-way I’d get bored of this scenery

    Harry W. May 2026
I’ve wanted to experience the fjords for a long time, and this trip surpassed all expectations — even with some intermittent rain. It was an incredible way to experience the vast beauty of the fjords up close. The personal highlight for me was the view from the summit on the second day; it was absolutely breathtaking. The trip was physically demanding at times, but the guide made sure everyone felt comfortable and was able to go at their own pace. As someone with limited kayaking experience, I really appreciated the chance to build confidence on the water. I also learned a great deal about Norwegian culture while enjoying the excitement and adventure of the trip! Tempted to go back myself now!
  • Surreal beauty -- well organized

    Thomas W. May 2026
Wonderfully organized without feeling rigid — the kind of trip where you're never stressed about logistics because someone clearly thought hard about all of it so you don't have to. Our primary role was to take in the scenic views and keep paddling forward. Jordan, our guide, was knowledgeable in that way where it never feels like a lecture, and genuinely part of the group rather than herding it. The camaraderie that grew over the days felt earned, though it was built on the foundation of us all being the sort of people who prefer to fly to Norway to sleep outdoors in the cold over a long weekend rather than sink into a couch. Recommend.
  • Breath of fresh air!

    David A. May 2026
An absolutely outstanding trip from start to finish. Callum was an exceptional guide — knowledgeable, calm and made everything feel effortless while keeping the whole group relaxed and confident. Starting in Voss, we quickly headed out into the fjords, kayaking across incredibly calm water that perfectly reflected the surrounding mountains. With low mist drifting through the peaks, the whole place felt surreal — like paddling through a painting. Wild camping in that setting was something special, but the real highlight was hiking Breiskrednosi. Reaching the summit in snowshoes, surrounded by vast snow-covered landscapes, felt like stepping into a Netflix adventure. Kayaking back on the final day, with those same glassy waters and dramatic scenery, was the perfect finish before a smooth transfer to Bergen. Every detail was spot on. If you’re even thinking about this trip — book it. The experience, the scenery, the whole atmosphere… unforgettable.

FAQs

The trip will be split into groups of up to 12 people. Let us know if you are travelling with friends, and we will make sure you are in the same group as friends who have booked.

Our local host operates multiple trips starting on the same date, so for your included group transfers between Bergen and Voss, you'll share a coach. When you are dropped off at your accommodation in Voss, your host will let you know who will be in your group so you can introduce yourselves and perhaps grab some dinner together. On your first night, although the rooms at the hostel in Voss are multi-share, you won't necessarily be sharing with people from your group due to room configurations and gender mix. When you arrive at the kayaking base in Gudvangen the next day, you'll separate into your group of up to 12 and hit the water.

One of the most beautiful places in the world. A fjord is a deep, narrow and elongated part of the sea, that stretches inland for miles, winding around mountains, valleys, and steep cliffs. The fjords were formed by the giant glacier tongues and shaped over several ice ages.

Most groups will have a mix of single and double kayaks. If you’d prefer a single, let your host know in advance and they’ll do their best to make it happen, but it can’t be guaranteed. They need to balance kayak-to-guide safety ratios and juggle the fleet across multiple groups. If you start out in a double and fancy trying a single (or vice versa), have a chat with your fellow adventurers, someone might be up for a swap during the trip. If you're unsure about your paddling strength or confidence, sharing a double with a stronger member of the group can be a great shout.

You're free to bring any luggage or suitcase you wish with you to Voss. On day 2, you'll check out of your accommodation with all of your luggage and transfer by bus to the host's kayaking base in Gudvangen. Here, you'll be given a 22-litre dry bag to pack everything into for your kayaking, camping and hiking adventure (excluding your sleeping bag and sleeping mat, unless you bring your own). You will be given a hard waterproof case for your camera/phone too, and you'll want to keep certain things handy such as your water bottle, cap, sunscreen and snacks. You'll need to pack light as your dry bag has to fit into the hatched compartments (bulkheads) of the kayak, along with the group's food and equipment which will be shared among the kayaks. The remainder of your luggage that you don't need on the adventure can be left behind at the kayaking base in Gudvangen, where it will be safely stored until your return.

Don't stress, your host will explain all during the briefing.

Absolutely. The train is 45 minutes faster than the included transfer and is one of the most spectacular journeys you can take by rail. Here’s how:

From the airport, get the Flybussen airport shuttle to Bergen bus station, or the Bybanen (city light rail - cheaper but slower). Buses to/from the airport run every 10-15 minutes, and cost roughly 90NOK (£9) each way. The Bybanen is approx 40NOK (£4).

From the bus station it’s a few minutes walk to the train station. A taxi from the airport to train station can be booked for between 350-550NOK (£35-£55), depending on traffic.

Trains run regularly throughout the day and don’t need to be booked in advance, with a single ticket to Voss costing roughly 200NOK (£20). Trains to Oslo stop at Voss.

You can buy tickets at the ticket office up until 5.30 pm, or from ticket machines. If you want to check the timetable or book online head here.

Voss Hostel is a 12 minute walk from the station. Head out of the main station and turn right on the road. Follow the road until just before the roundabout (about 750m) then take the left turning, following the road for 200m more - straight to the hostel.

For the return, make your life easy by jumping on the already included transfers to Bergen Airport.

We can recommend the following from budget to high price. There are many other hotels, however these are selected for their convenience and/or from experience:

Accommodation in Bergen

Here’s what your local guide has to say on drones:

We do not really encourage bringing drones on this trip for several reasons:

  • There are limited times where there would be possibilities for flying the drone.
  • We need to keep the campsites free of drone traffic in agreement with the landowners.
  • There is often livestock animals in some areas that may get affected and we need to keep a good relationship with the farmers.
  • We have seen some people being frustrated by drone traffic and can understand this.

Having said this, we do not prohibit drone use as it is out of our legislation. As long as it does not interfere with the issues mentioned above and you can fit the drone in the kayak, it will be OK to bring it along. Just please do discuss the use with other group members sometime after meeting up with them on the first morning to settle this.

The best way to meet your host is to take the train from Oslo centre to Voss (not Bergen), and then head to Voss Hostel. See the FAQ how to get to Voss hostel from the airport and just follow the directions from Voss station to the hostel. The train journey takes about 6.5 hours and goes through some amazing scenery.

At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive and enjoyable. The weather in summer is generally very comfortable for kayaking and camping, with temperatures of 15-20ºC, sometimes more. April and May typically see the lowest rainfall but days are cooler (typically 10-15ºC) and nights usually hover a few degrees above freezing. Snow cover often persists on higher ground into April and May (and occasionally early June) and is likely to be encountered along a significant portion of the hike (your host has a stock of snowshoes if needed). We recommend joining this trip in July and August for the warmest temperatures, but it’s great all summer.

In any month it can rain and get chilly at night so waterproofs, good hiking boots, a warm jumper and some thermals are vital. This time of year daylight in Norway is constant with only 2–3 hours of darkness in the evenings.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 47kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
